Six deadly sins, one power that no one can control
I had thought shit had hit the fan when the love of my life turned out to be a cheating scumbag with cardboard-coloured eyes. But, boy, was I wrong.
No, it really went down when I found out that my six new roomates were actually six of the Seven Deadly Sins, the townspeople were being stripped of their sins - and souls -, and I was kidnapped by a psychotic zombie-preacher.
Getting back to "life as usual" is proving easier said than done, especially since my "usual" never particularly included uncontrollable bursts of power or possessed mental hallucinations.
Don't even get me started on the weird forcefield thing around the church where we defeated that... thing.
No one can get in.
No one can get out.
The darkness around it is too powerful for even my guys to safely approach. We need help, and a lot of it.
I thought we were done with crazy, but with me in the picture I guess it's unavoidable. Boy, are we screwed.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
We pick up right after the events of book one with them all trying to find their normal. The problem is that Ria is having power issues and more making things difficult if not impossible to deal with. I was enjoying the character development as well as the new dynamic they all have going on. All kinds of surprises keep popping up and Ria's attitude while dealing with it kept cracking me up. I cannot wait to see where this is going to go next. Great for fans of paranormal RH novels. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Holy mother of Tahoe. I think Jenica's goal with this book was to leave me in an emotional puddle of pain. The it hurst so good type pain. The kind of pain you crave from a good heart-wrenching book. The kind that an author sets on fire and then walks away cackling evilly leaving you to stew over all of the emotions the book left you with. A pain you crave from a good book. You know what I mean? No? Maybe it's just me ... some may say I'm just a little bit of a masochist.
The fallout of book one has left Ria in a sea of confusion and unable to trust her own senses. Every day she wakes up and puts on a carefully crafted mask of nonchalance and and the facade of being okay. Her feelings are warring against each other: the need for the guys not to see her fragile versus the need for them to worry about her and take care of her. There is a vulnerability to her that we didn't get to see in the first book, which is refreshing and draws her deeper into my heart. She doubts her place with the guys and in turn starts to doubt herself. With each page Ria's mask begins to crack and by the end of the book it has completely shattered. I don't know if Ria will survive the fallout .... hell I don't know if I will.
Every damn time the guys let their sins show I can't help but cackle out loud. Really. It is loud and highly unattractive, but alas I can't help myself. Although the guys continue to have their funny and playful sides, they also have a softer more vulnerable side in this book. There were so many moments that played with my heart when it came to the guys and their POVs. You get a taste of their struggles with their past and their struggles to find their place in Ria's life. Each of them are drawn to Ria. Each of them want the best for her. Each of them want to take care of her. Their inability to see through Ria's mask hurt my heart a little, and when that comes to a head it will tear open your heart. Literally Jenica will rip out your heart and leave it on the ground. Trust me, I've experienced it.
That damn boyfriend scene ... hell the eyeliner scene. With each reaction and action that took place in those scenes I was rolling. It was that rolling laughter that caused you to cry, but not in a sad way. Trust me, you'll be in the same boat when you read those. Drea and Kel's scene .... their friendship is so damn precious and to get that moment with them was so beautiful. Eliam and I have a rocky relationship, but it's not as rocky as his relationship with Ria ... hot damn that is one love hate relationship I can't help but be consumed by. Ria and Rafe's scene shredded my heart into tiny little pieces. I understand why it happened, but damn doesn't mean it doesn't hurt any less.
This series has been like a siren. Book one lured me in with it's song. Book two distracted me with their vulnerability and tugged on my heart. I have a feeling book three might just ruin me ... but damn it if I don't want it. This series is like an all consuming and passionate love ... each book will tear off a little piece of your heart, but in turn it will give you a piece of it's heart in return.
What a way to continue on the story of Ria's journey into all that is mystical and magical. I didn't know what was to come after the way Sinless (Deadly Omen #1) ended, but this was a great way to follow on. This story has more inclusions of Ria's internal companion, in the form of her "hallucination" which she's had since childhood. But how will the Sins react when snippets of information come from these hallucinations of Ria's? Only time will tell!
I really like Jenica's storytelling technique, with the Deadly Omen books having the same flow and characteristics. We continue to have more multiple POVs, which allow us to get a feeling for situations from different view points. We also still have Ria's crazy hilarious inner monologue, which features her questioning moments or reactions, and is something most of us can possibly relate to. WE also have a killer cliffhanger at the end, which really makes you want to reach out and grab Book #3 as soon as possible! Can't wait to read what happens next!
** I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration **
Jenica Saren has only gotten better with book two. I loved this book even more than the last although only by the tiniest margin. Where the first book was definitely a breakout book, this one is polished and answers so many questions I had. The writing was complete and without any errors. The story continues to be completely original. Which I generally find to be lacking in the RH community.
The only things I find to be lacking is the main characters confidence. In book one she was definitely a bit full of herself, but it worked in my opinion. This book almost seemed to pave the way for her to be reliant upon the guys in book three. Hopefully, that will not be the case. The other thing is that I wasn't left with any questions, the exception being the end of book cliffhanger. Hopefully book three will leave me trying to piece things together instead of giving me all the answers to questions that pop up during the book.
Other than these few things, book two was pretty amazing. Looking forward to book three!
Good Lord, I really enjoyed this. I'm a little disappointed in the guys and poor Drea breaks my heart. I hope she gets a series of a book in this series. I love Ria she is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite characters ever. Her quick wit, sassy inner self, crazy nicknames and amazingly accurate intuition make her fun and easily loveable. E is starting to get on my last nerve with his constant flip flop attitude, but I still adore him. The rest of the guys are incredibly sweet, and they are all hilarious! Oh the eyeliner, that will forever be one of my favorite book scenes! And that ending!! I completely forgot about all that because there was so many big things happening, that when that happened I did an audible gasp! This was truly a fantastic read and I very much look forward to finding out what happens next!
This second book in the Deadly Omen series saw a bit of progression in the relationships with the sins but also left you with more questions. Ria is struggling with all the things that have happened to her since moving in with the Sins. A couple of people from her past make an appearance and I’m still wondering if one of them is good or bad. Eliam is so hot and cold in this book! I’m not liking him to much and I’m not sure if he can redeem himself after the events of this book. I really hope he can! Drea makes a few appearances and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has in store for her. I can’t wait to see how the rest of this story plays out! I’m hoping the next book will have some answers and hopefully Eliam’s redemption! Good job Jenica :)
This book made me laugh out loud so many times. It was exactly what I needed at the time. Ria's inner dialogue amuses me so. Not to mention the things she does to deliberately get a reaction out of the A-Hole. There were serious moments too, but not so heavy that you felt like you were on a rollercoaster coast with nothing but steep hills. The connections between Ria and the guys deepened and we gained more insight into why she behaves the way she does.
Really excited for book 3! March cannot come quickly enough!
I liked his one much better than the first one. I really liked the dynamics between the MC and the guys. What I loved the most though : Liam, how he stays true to character even though at the end it would have sooo easy to change him. This ending is really great really makes me want the next book !
I didn't put 5 stars because the MC feels like too much of a pushover comparing to the obnoxious powerhouse she was in the first book.
Ria and her sins are back and this book picks up where the last left off. I love the changes in the dynamic of the group and the growth of the characters. This book has left dso many possibilities for the next story and I'm curious to see how things go. This is a must read especially if you are interested in the 7 deadly sins
Wow that was totes worth the wait! Ria and the guys start trying to figure things out then bam some evil harpy tries to ruin it all. Stalker exes, battling personal demons, trust issues and all the drama and action you could want. I love Ria's sassyness and her angsty interactions with the guys. Dang that ending through, I can't wait to see where their story is going to go next!!
Gah that book ended on quite the cliffhanger. I did enjoy the book but it did get a little confusing at time as to who the bad guy actually is. It’s very apparent now and hoping the guys get their heads out of their asses especially E. Slower burn than I thought but still good. Will definitely read the next one when it comes out.
What an amazing book. And that ending omg! Although Ria was not my fave person ever, she has grown on me, I understand her better and love the way she thinks! She's the kind of friend where you say, I really thought you were a b*tch and then you laugh and drink the next tequila. Can't wait for the next installment because that ending
Ok. Two books in and I still don’t know. She’s maybe a brilliant writer. But there is a lot in the story that just makes no sense so far. Some of the characters seem to have multiple personalities they flip emotions so fast... But I’m moving on to book 3 because I just need to know what happens next and whether all the weird works out to a good story.
This was the best installment yet. Loved it. Fast paced, action packed. Kept me guessing until the end. Ria is hilarious and the guys are more clearly showing their sins. Can’t wait for the next one! Seriously, how can you leave us hanging like that!!
Sinful picks right up where Sinless drops off. In my opinion, I love this series & would recommend this series because it has the right amount of roasts, sass, vain, & a sprinkle of emotional obstacles to overcome. It reminds me of the stages of acceptance or grief. I can't wait to read Sinsiter!
I truly love Ria. The emotions this girl feels is so real and honest. She fights and live with such passion and Eliam is just making me mad!!! She sees some not so happy faces of her past. And the new line of Drea is amazing
What an exciting read. I love the humour and emotions this book pulled out of me. Ria has baggage a mile wide but is keeping an open mind and open heart when it comes to her sexy deadly sins. Evil obviously has returned but how will they handle it?!
E is such a Di(k seriously. Wtf is up with them say oh we should trust Ria Instincts then totally ignore her 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 then you got the crazy bit(h . Wow just wow . Then ending. Cliffhanger. Wtf . So so good tho
Seriously! I want to be Ria’s friend! Love her personality and her kick ass attitude! The guys as usual make me one 6 of my own. I can’t wait for the third!!
Was really excited to learn more about the sins and ria and to watch them grown in the relationship. I didn’t see that ending coming and can’t wait for more.
3,5 stars Omg they all so hilarious, i love their teasing and banter. and holy hell that ending tho lucky me that read all four books in a row so i didn´t have to wait
I loved this book as much as I loved the first one. This one was also hot and hilarious. There's a darkness to fight and lots of sins to be naughty with. I don't know how I'm going to survive until book 3. It's going to take some time to forgive the author for the cliffhanger, but I'm sure I'll survive. LOL
The wait for book 2 was so worth it. I love ria but Eliam I want to knock out. I honestly have never not liked one of the MC men before until now. I hope I’m the next book he gets it together. I can’t wait to see more of Drew and what her story is. The whole monkey situation had me laughing so hard. This book was absolutely amazing and I can’t wait for the next one.
