The first "Wait Wait . . . Don't Tell Me!" collection focused on the best of the "Not My Job" segment of the program. This second collection skims the cream off the entire archive of the show, with selections from "Who's Carl This Time?" "Lightning Fill in the Blank," "The Listener Limerick Challenge," "Not My Job!" and more. Panelists include author and humorist Roy Blount Jr., author and radio anomaly Tom Bodett, syndicated advice Amy Dickinson ("Ask Amy"), journalist P.J. O'Rourke, Washington Post columnist Roxanne Roberts, Boston Globe writer Charlie Pierce, comedian Paula Poundstone, and television personality Mo Rocca.
I could have listened to 5 hours of this! (Not 7 1/2 because 3x the fun is too much fun. ;) ) It was such a great selection of celebrities I recognized and ones I did not. Some of the celebrities that called in sounded completely different than when I heard them on tv shows or movies. Which is weird since a recorded voice is a recorded voice. Anyway- this is a great pick-me-up for anyone who has been down. It is also a very quick listen, so you do not have to commit a lot of time towards completing it.
This was a fun short audio recording of some of the best moments from the Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me! radio program. It's a great listen for unique personal interest stories and anecdotes from both celebrities and politicians who have appeared on the show through the years.
This compilation includes Not My Job segments with Carl Castle and was a fun blast of the past to listen to. Light-hearted and a reminder of when the news wasn't always terrifying this was a fun collection to listen to.
I thought I'd enjoy this more but I've discovered that can only take the show's format in small doses. Listening to the collection reminded me that the banter is often archly snotty, and rather condescending toward guests and listeners.
I only started listening to this podcast a couple months ago and now I listen regularly. I was surprised to find that I could download this as an audiobook from my library. This was a nice little compilation of some of their funniest famous guests. The host (Peter Sagal) is fantastic and has a great rapport with all the guests. He knows how to interview them while being funny but also allowing the guests to shine. The quizzes are fun and you'll always learn something interesting from them. Highly recommended!
If you love this radio show, this is a must-listen.
Published by HighBridge Company/NPR in 2008. Multiple Performers Duration: 2 hours, 11 minutes.
If you are familiar with the NPR radio show Wait Wait...Don´t Tell Me then you know what this collection is all about. Clever people playing silly games with news stories. This collection comes from 2006-2008 so the news is a little old. But, then again, you don´t listen to this show for the news - you listen to it for the funny takes on the news by the guests and the panel.
Guests include Michael Moore (note: I am not a big fan of Michael Moore but he was very funny), Ted Koppel, Drew Carey and NBA star Chris Paul. Besides the guests, there is just a lot of silly news and even better commentary on it.
Regular panelist Paula Poundstone was hilarious as was P.J. O´Rourke, Roy Blount Jr, Mo Rocca and Tom Bodett.
If you love this radio show, this is a must-listen.
As stated in my previous review of the Best of Not My Job, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! is an ongoing news quiz done through NPR with host Peter Sagal and a mixed panel of pundits and comics, like Paula Poundstone and Tom Bodat.
The Best of Wait Wait... was a random collection of some of the best moments so far. Unlike Not My Job, the CDs are arranged into random moments rather than dialogues with various celebrities. The Best Of Wait Wait was much more newsworthy of a collection, entailing some of the wacky 2008 Election moments, among other things. Much of the CD was interplay between host, panelists and listener contestants, and provided a good sample of the various games and comic treats for those who are unfamiliar with the show.
Again...
Verdict: A good pick up for fans of Wait Wait..., trivia, or NPR in general.
I decided not to count this in my book reading count as this is a compilation of broadcasts/podcasts. The audiobook was as enjoyable as the regular radio show. I like funny, clever and topical stuff.
I wish I could give this 10 stars!! I listened to this on audio and could not quit laughing. Also, too much fun to play along with the games and guess the answers.
