Alex Hope is troubled. Having saved her girlfriend, Officer Jess (JJ) Love from her murderous brother who had escaped from prison, she thought life would return to normal. Sadly, that isn’t to be. Alex discovers that Jess’s dead brother has left a daughter behind-two-year-old, Annie. Desperate to help the little girl, Alex tells Jess she wants them to take care of her.
As Alex and Jess fight to maintain custody of Annie, Alex begins work on a new case. She is having visions once again-an old, urban legend which people have talked about for years enters her head and she can’t shake the feeling that she knows the truth.
Four ten-year-old boys had ventured into a forest. They had been there on a dare-to venture onto the old, abandoned property hidden in the trees, which the local people said was haunted. Inside the boys had joked was a killer clown, waiting to kill. The boy who drew the short straw was the one…the one who had to go first.
In 1971, on a cold, snowy day in January, little Jimmy Reynolds had drawn the short straw. He had left for the haunted house-and never returned. The case had never been solved, and remained a cold case. What had happened to Jimmy? No evidence, body or bones had ever been found.
As Alex begins to see visions about this old case, she unearths a hidden truth that no-one is expecting. The case grows beyond anything anyone ever realised. With Alex’s psychic ability tested to the limit, she must find all the lost boys who have been missing for so long-whilst looking to save the little girl she fears she will lose imminently.

Can Alex retain custody of little Annie? Will Jess and Alex be able to help her? Find out in…One.

AJ Estelliam loves sunsets, sandy toes and hot baths. She relaxes by writing and being able to lose herself in a fantasy world where anything is possible.
Her inspiration comes from gorgeous pictures, photos and places she visits. Alex Hope was inspired initially by a photograph...and then her story began.
AJ is currently working on more Alex Hope novels. 'I love the relationship I have written between Alex and Jess. It's an all-consuming love and they're friends, lovers and soul mates. It's the kind of love everyone is looking for really-aside from the psychic ability and murders though!'

Gripping read!
In this book #6, the author had a much softer approach with this new serial killer who is into kidnapping, drugging, sodomizing young boys then chopping them up etc.. -- add in cannibalism. It's still a dark, insane but absorbing storyline.
Recommended book and series!

Gave me goosebumps and parts of it scared the shit out of me.

Another great story in the " alex" series.. been waiting blooming ages for this to come out. .. bit disappointed in the length of it, a bit short to be fare.

Alex Hope series can be very gruesome and be quite detailed at times. So don't read if your looking for comedy, romance or a easy read.

This was a bit overcomplicated even for this series. And that's saying something. Not that I didn't have fun, but there were definitely editing issues, mostly accidentally swapped names, which made it harder to read.

A collection of anyone's nightmares.

This series is full of everything unimaginable. So fucking awful the things are happening to the children and women and men.

A lot of things I find frustrating with Alex's character, in this book, it was her disregard of Jess' pain and trauma that was inflicted on her by her own brother. Yes, Annie is innocent but if what happened to Jess had happened to me, I would stab anyone who would force the decision Alex forced Jess to make in that moment. Like, how about me? How about all that I suffered at the hands of that child's father?-- Like fuck no. I am glad though that it turned out fine.

Ps: The way the author is advancing Alex's powers is rather impressive but also disappointing because one simply can't develop such extensive powers just because they got their head bashed in during an accident. But, I am here for it all. Last time I liked a paranormal of this nature was when I was reading The Ghost Files by Apryl Baker and Bad Girls Don't Die by Katie Alender - Intriguing paranormal books.

Another gruesome murder mystery by AJ Estelliam. Good plot and excellent characters. The crimes are revealed in very gory detail. Danger haunts the pages of One from beginning to end.

Good

This is hands down one of my favorite series, and it just keeps on getting better. If your looking for a nice page turner that as little bit of dead zone meets ghost whisperer hooked up with law and order then this is the series for you.

3 stars. Alex got on my last bit of nerves in this one. She's so inconsiderate of Jess's feelings. Also, this book was so fucking brutal. I thought the last book was the worst of it but this one definitely topped it. Children are harmed in this one and it made me feel so nauseous. This series is not for the faint of heart and includes every single trigger you could possible imagine. The mystery was good and little Annie is precious. I only have one more book to go and I'm honestly really excited to be done with this series.

Can never read a little.

Another good read about Alex and Jess. It had me biting my fingernails and talking out loud. I always get caught up. I usually have to read another short story, so I don't have nightmares.

Another One

This was another nail bitter in the Alex and Jess saga. It will keep on the edge of your seat. Can't wait for Echo Lake.

I love the characters the storyline I can’t wait to read the next book, but I’m recommended to start from the beginning of this series. It’s wonderful.
