Missed the mark

I loved the synapse of this story. It sounded dark and scary. I was really excited about how the story was going to get pulled together. Unfortunately, I gave up at 22%. First off the main character Darcy at first seems dark and intense. However, right after she is kidnapped she is daydreaming of sex with her kidnappers. The kidnappers seem immature. They all want to kiss her and are giving her looks. It just missed the mark. It came off as very teenagerish. There were also several spelling errors. I’m not a fan of that although it was a free book.

Stupid characters. Stupid cliches. Stupid attempts at "romance". Just no. smh. I can't even force myself to continue. I want to punch the female MC in the face.

This series was difficult to endure, I didn’t make it to the end. Darcy is a teenage character whose outstanding quality (presented as a skill) is to more easily remember numbers. Kinda like anyone with a good memory, but just numbered information. She continually has to have the last say and her way and considers herself more right than anyone else trained as spies because she remembers numbers. She has no skills in this field, no experience as an equivalent and no idea how hopeless she actually is. She sets out and puts her team and the undercover network at mortal risk again and again. She turns the tears on and is told it’s not her fault. Then she goes and does it again, trying to share the blame with others. The guys must be horny as she doesnt have very many actual conversations, so when the I love you comes out, I’m baffled. She is self centred and juvenile, not in a fun way. Of course she is told how big her heart is... wtf? People wouldn’t need saving if she hadn’t firetrucked up again. Take her home and leave her there, she has some life to experience before she can be believed. Then everyone is safe.

It was mehhh.
A little bit forgettable, but not the worst thing I’ve ever read.

I read Blurred Limits from this same author and really enjoyed it, so I grabbed this series next. The synopsis gives off the vibes that this is going to be somewhat of a dark story. Spoiler alert: it’s really not.

I won’t dive into this one too much but here are a handful of thoughts;
1.) I wish we could have seen a better progression of her relationship with the men throughout the story. It just didn’t come across as super believable in some aspects.
2.) For rescuing the Ghost Agency locations to be such a major plot point at the end, I feel like we deserved to see a better outcome there. I’m supposed to buy that all those boys are just going to live normal lives now? They’re not even going to try and figure out how to have the agency move forward? The whole point of the agency is to keep corrupt government officials in check. This was a huge deal throughout the series. So now we just don’t care??
3.) Maybe everyone else just forgets about Otto, but I DID NOT. I was getting some strong vibes that he was going to be added to the harem. We get an in depth description of him, which we only really get for the other harem guys. We see him rescue our FMC from being r*ped and then he miraculously comes back later and saves her from being killed. She takes him to the hospital, leaves him, and then we never bring him up again?!
4.) I think overall I wanted a bit more action and drama, considering how big of a deal this flash drive is supposed to be. Little bit of a snooze fest.
5.) Our FMC is a little difficult to deal with at times. She fights a lot & she’s self-sacrificial; so you’re thinking we have a bit of a badass who isn’t just a little bitch. But then she’s also somehow a total baby and a bit annoying.

First let me state that I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), and it in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

OMG!!! I need to say, I usually only read supernatural stories as I'm not much of a contemporary type girl. I love the paranormal. But I've read some of Marissa's stories before and thought I'd give this one a chance, and damn am I glad I did. I couldn't put this down. Darcy is a gr8 character. She's like a lot of twenty year olds in not knowing what she wants from life. But this girl can get herself in more trouble than anyone I know. She gets kidnapped by five guys, Issac, Clay, Alex, Lorcan, & Anthony, but that doesn't stop her from being feisty and fighting back. When she's told to stay put to keep her safe, she fights back and pushes her way in and usually ends I In more trouble. She ends up caring for a abductors, but not in a Stockholm syndrome, it's a real attraction that is returned by these men. They care so much for her that all they want to do is protect her, and she's the same with them. This story has, cooked FBI, a Ghost group of spies, threats of death, and so much more. I really and truly enjoyed this story. I recommend this read 5 Thumbs up

DNF @48%.

I tried. Really tried. There are very few grammatical errors and the author does know how to pull a reader into their feels. But....

But....The FMC is atrocious. In the first book of the box set she is just really stupid and her thought process is unrealistic. I persevered though because of the situation the FMC was in, I know logically everyone deals different. It didn’t stop me from cringing though. Another con to this series is the quick timeline. Everything happens in a matter of days and in book two, less than a week of knowing her harem, she has feels.

The world, setup, and harem guys are actually all pretty well done. It is seriously the main character that ruined all of it. I’d hoped that we’d see a longer timeline and watch her grow but at almost halfway through the box set she’s still an immature, selfish brat with absolutely nothing to offer except her ability to remember numbers.

This series definitely wasn’t for me BUT I do plan to check out this authors other work. They have talent and I’d like to see what else they offer.

Dark Codes Series! Books 1-4
By Marissa Farrar

What an amazing series!! … I devoured these four books in such a short amount of time - I didn’t want to put them down!!

The series is really easy to read and follow!! … It is somewhat predictable but still surprises you when you least expect it!!

I love the characters … their individuality the way they worked together … their story … her story … the plot … the smut … the dark Romance … it was all perfect in every-way possible!! 🖤 I bloody loved it!!

The FMC … ‘Darcy’ - …
a strong, independent, sassy, impulse driven, confident on the outside! - with all the normal doubts of a female!!

The MMC’s …
‘Isaac’, ‘Alex’, ‘Clay’, ‘Kingsley’ & ‘Lorcan’ …
They’ll do anything to protect her!! anything to keep her safe!! anything to help her!! but first … they have to kidnap her!!

I’ll leave this review here to keep you wondering … I want these men in my life … but until then - they are safely tucked away in my imagination!!

Darcy's father was killed in front of her and somewhere within the recesses of her mind are the numbers behind his death. Betrayed by one of his own, now his daughter, Darcy is in danger. She is "kidnapped" for her safety and now finds herself with a group of men also wanting the code, and to protect her. Darcy no longer knows what to believe or who to trust. But over the next few weeks, the guys prove themselves to her and Darcy becomes part of their team working to stop Special Agent Hollan from destroying the ghost agency program.

This story had such a strong premise but failed in its delivery. At least for me. I have never been more irritated by a lead character than I was by Darcy. The guys were not well-trained and she was not an asset. The author did no research into ghost agencies or special ops training and the series suffered because of it. The story became repetitive and the relationships were never developed. It was a relief when it finally ended.

Everything seemed forced; romance, suspense, mystery…

Attention to detail wasn’t one of the authors specialties. Clothing items would change from scene to scene mysteriously appearing or gone missing later. Body placement would change without any actual indicated movement.

Instant devotion and connection to her captives and vice versa making their relationship very unrealistic. Feelings were forced.

Instead of chapter breaks to start a new scene, a new chapter would begin altogether but not just that, they wouldn’t be new scenes, just continuation of the scene into a new chapter. It was unnecessary.

The only reason this book received a 2 star was for originality with the story. Just needed a better presentation.

Altogether read as a series pack, I gave this 5 cups of steaming javas....☕☕☕☕☕.

Awesome, action packed series that hooked me in all the way to the end, sleepless nights to be expected! From first book to last, it was filled with lot of suspense and action packed drama. Great intro into story line and good plot with strong support with supporting characters to keep story line flowing smoothly between Darcy and her 5 men from beginning to end. Oh, there's a couple of surprising twists in this as well! And Darcy's hot actions with one, 2 and all of her guys were very much added pleasure bonus.

DNF - 73%

I really liked this series. However I didn't end up finishing it. Honestly, the concept was pretty cool. The characters were well developed. The plot was interesting enough. But it just became kind of repetitive. The same villain continuously getting away and justice is JUST out of reach every time. And usually it was because a character made a really dumb decision... Seriously why did she close the door behind her? There was no real reason, she just came off kind of dense in those types of situations. Maybe I will read it again in the future and give it another try. Like I said, it was a really interesting and pretty unique concept.

Darcy’s father was killed in front of her and a few years later, she tells her story to the press but includes a tidbit of information that she had never mentioned before, a number sequence he told her just before he died. This puts her in more danger than she realises.

Kidnapped by Isaac, Clay, Kingsley, Alex and Lorcan, she thinks she is in trouble but they there to help her!

The book sounded good up to this point but then the main character was annoying and thought she has some secret power because of the way she could remember numbers. It was all a bit meh

LOVED these books!!

These guys are sizzling hot, and there is a brave, if not sometimes clueless, heroine. Great romance and steamy chemistry between all the guys and Darcy. More than that though; there was a plot, a storyline, and so many different layers to each book that keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you turning pages. Heartbreaking plot twist at the end, but over all a very happily ever after.

Jeepers these series is awesome, I had problems putting this book down.. sleep puff who needs sleep. In this book Darcy goes through some pretty ruff times not only is she kidnapped she is also held hostage. It sure has some scarey moments, and she ends up with a lot on her plate.. I highly recommend this series and love this authors work.

Darcy, Darcy, Darcy.... another young, energetic, disheartened heroine... The premise of the story is good, the suspense and intrigue helped build the characters and connections. The ease in which Isaac, Clay, Kingsley, Larcon and Alex fall for her... too simple.
I enjoyed this as a boxed set which helped the complete story and rating. Classifying as RH, more like good girl dabbling individually until the very end.

I really tried to push through reading it, and even managed to get through the first book and half of the second. But so many of the scenes felt forced rather than flowing naturally. It felt as though it was both too quick with the romance but also way too slow with it at the same time. Had potential to be good, but I felt more like I was reading a rough draft instead of a final copy.

Great guys!

I really enjoyed the storyline. It was exciting and creative. The male characters were all very different, but all gorgeous in their own way. I can't say that I liked the female lead. She seemed to make 90% of her decisions based on how she thought others perceived her. I thought she was stuck at age 16 emotionally and mentally. Her lack of confidence and juvenile angst got extremely annoying.

Hot!

Loved loved loved this series. I loved the suspense of it and the characters each on their own. I only gave it 4 stars though because I wanted more of the Darcy and guys all together. Or sooner. Something. But I loved the individual interactions between Darcy and the guys. I just wanted more of them all together.

It was pretty good.

Lots of action in a short amount of time. Serious insta-Love that was somewhat unbelievable. For as long as the series was I wish there had been maybe less fast action and more character development. It would have been great to know more about what made the characters tick. Still a good read.

Special skills indeed...

This is a first read of this author for me and it was great! It has a bit of spice thrown in sporadically but nothing to over the top. The plot of the story is unique and well written. The characters are intriguing and the twists definitely keep the story going.
It's a great little world.

I had major problems with the reality of the "program" that the guys were from. I mean really, you have no way to contact the other hubs/stations, no one knows where they are? Oh and only 2 agents in all of the FBI knew about it's existence.

Besides from that it was an okay RH series.

Not what I expected except for the last chapter.

The series was okay but it took me too long to read to get to the end. There were twists and turns that kept me reading in book three. It was a good read but was very predictable in the ending.

That was really good. A bit bittersweet at the ending there but it sorta turned bout HEA. Kinda reminded me of that show on Sci-fi called Alphas. My son was obsessed with it. Still is to some extent.
