my update at 60%:

This was plodding along quite nicely until this point where she is driving ten hours back home and talking to him on the speaker phone and it just ends up being tales about the past. There is no character development or tension or even much depth. Random characters who appear and disappear. No drama. Nothing to make me really care about either of them which is a shame.

However, I carried on reading, simply because I liked some aspects of the writing. It was nice at the start to have a woman apologising for her behaviour as Rebecca did:

You're being so nice to me and I've been nothing but a thorn in your side. You don't deserve that. I'm really sorry about the earlier attitude. Quite honestly, you saved me in a dire situation and I'm grateful. That was a really nice apology.

There were a few euw moments: "I'm fine, thanks. A simple hot flash; you know, hormones," she lied.

Hot flash?? As in Menopausal ?? How OLD is this woman?? In her fifties?? And saying that to a complete stranger?? Really??

And then Ryan is called out to a fire (he's a firefighter) and this ensues:

"I need to run. There's a fire. Make yourself at home. I'll be back in a little while."
"Thanks. Be careful," she said, bummed to see him turning to leave. At least she had Chief's {the dog} company.

BUMMED?? What about the fact that he is going to fight a fire? All she says is 'Be careful' - and she gets the gwumps because he's had to leave her all by her ownsome-lonesome while HE GOES TO FIGHT A FIRE.

Selfish or what??
What really irked e about this story was the missed potential. Ryan is a firefighter - the title is : Small Town Hero, but there were no heroics. Nada.

Ryan's work is more or less sidelined - we dont get to see him risk his life, or get put in danger, or have Rebecca terrified that he might be injured. Nothing. So where were the heroics? (Please dont tell me they were included in the long and boring phone conversation they had while Rebecca was driving home, because I skimmed most of that info-dump.)

So much missed opportunity. And the whole 'saving myself for marriage' aspect was glossed over in some ways. Rebecca, after that initial nice apology, was little more than a 2D character with no depth and very little empathy.

Rating to come.

This may be one of the most insta-love books I've ever read. I enjoyed the book well enough until I hit the 85% mark and then the scene where Ryan goes to talk to Erin just made me cringe. It suddenly felt like a soap opera. And as a parent, I could totally relate to Ryan and Rebecca's parents being a little freaked out. I'd be freaked out too. So by the end of the book I really wanted to believe that they were making the right decision but my parental if-that-were-my-kid freak out kind of prevented me from believing that they could have a happily ever after. And I felt like Ryan was kind of pushing Rebecca when she felt some doubts and wanted to give it more time. And that bugged me. I liked him until then.

I was glad to see Rebecca get out of what had been her normal life. She had a horrible fiance, horrible best friend, horrible boss... Let that toxic waste go.....

In a nutshell I probably could have given the book 4 stars if I were only commenting on the first 80-ish% but the end ruined it for me. I was just too uncomfortable with their decision.

Small Town Hero is the first book in the Small Town Brides Series by Kim Koby. This is my first read of Ms. Koby’s, so I really didn’t know what to expect from her as a storyteller, or writer. But the blurb sounded intriguing and the cover was sweet, so I decided to jump on in. What I discovered was a lovely, sweet, clean, and romantic story about love, loss, betrayal, second chances, opposites attract, forgiveness, and new beginnings.
Rebecca had her future all planned out, or so she thought. All that comes crashing down when she discovers her fiancé in bed with her best friend. So much for happily-ever-after, or friendship. This betrayal is what sees her in Tennessee, stranded, where she has to rely the kindness of a stranger. What she doesn’t realise is this moment will change her life in more ways than she could have imagined.
Ryan is a local firefighter, who too knows the sting of heartache. These two are total opposites, but you know how the old saying goes. Even though they clash, there is still a connection that neither can deny. What happens when the city girl with expensive taste meets this down-to-earth small-town hero? You’ll need to read the book to find out.
The story was a little predictable, but that didn’t really detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the book. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to connect with Rebecca as she seemed quite shallow to begin with, but she won me over in the end. These two had a great connection and I loved their banter, I just wish the story had a bit more complexity, but that’s just my taste, and I know that there are others who prefer there stories to be sweet and uncomplicated- but it just slightly missed the mark for me. I can appreciate it for what it is though- a lovely, romantic story.

Thank you, Ms. Koby!

Small Town Hero by Kim Koby a four-star read that will restore your faith. This is the first book in the Small Town Brides series and it was sweet, and romantic in the best possible ways. This was a great opposite attract, with some added drama as well the pages just flowed from each other with a great flow. The way we see Rebecca with her tough façade (with good reason, with a bestie like hers who needs enemies) and soft gentleness that we get to see when she shows her true self. It was a great development to the story, it wasn’t just this is a scorned woman ohh she met a man and now she’s happy there was detail and structure and a trueness to the flow, It just made it that much more of a stronger story.

Small Town Hero- Kim Koby

5-star review

Small Town Hero by Kim Koby is an absolutely fantastic romance read! It’s a whirlwind romance that I read in one sitting as I couldn’t bring myself to put it down. This book is the first in the Small-Town Brides series, a series I can’t wait to continue with. It’s full of emotional moments that had me feeling shocked, angry, heartbroken and also had me feeling all kinds of hope for Rebecca as she opened herself up to experiencing the ultimate betrayal. I love how this story flowed and I would love to read more about Rebecca in the future!

I would absolutely recommend this romance read to anyone and I look forward to reading more from this author!

Unrealistic

This novel was very unrealistic. I enjoyed the fact that it was based on Christian morals and the fact that the lead character stuck to her morals when her back was pressed up against the wall. However, with that being said, people packing up their lives to move across the country - especially when it is to marry someone they have known for three days - just does not happen. I wish it could have been more realistic for this novel had plenty of potential.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed her writing style. I was in the mood for a "sweet romance" and this fit the bill perfectly. It's a clean - low angst story with a bit of depth to it.

The characters are quickly developed, the story moves at a decent pace and the secondary characters are well played. The book allowed me to "escape" for a few hours and I appreciated that.

I will be looking forward to more from this writer in the future.

Ryan knows heartache. The only woman he loved walked away the day he proposed to her. He knew in that instant he'd never trust his heart to another. At least he has his dog to keep him company and a good job as a local firefighter.

This is Rebecca Cooper and and Ryan SPENCER’s story.
REBECCA GLARED AT THE man who stood before her at the register.
His tires had kicked dirt up onto her new shoes when he’d spun carelessly into the parking lot. She leaned down to dust them off, but a slight outline remained.
Why a business still had a gravel parking lot was beyond her.
She finished her business with the tow truck driver and got the address of where her car would be delivered.
RYAN SPENCER OPENED the door to his dusty pick-up truck. His old Ford had been a reliable companion for ages. It always started, didn’t die, and the transmission worked just fine.
He took one final look over at Ms. BMW and shook his head.
It was a simple lift to the neighboring town that could host her until her car was repaired.
Can two broken souls find salvation with their complete opposite?
I highly recommend reading.

Small Town Hero is Book 1 in the Small Town Brides Series From author Kim Koby.

This was my first read from this author and won’t be my last. This author has a great writing style and knows how to draw you in with her characters backstories and plots.

This was a quick, romantic read that had a brilliant plot line and wonderful characters that you are immediately drawn to and love reading about and following their journey. This is a quick read that draws you and holds you captivated till the end.

Rebecca has just witnessed the most heartbreaking thing she never expected to see - but what she never expected was that fate would intervene and change her life in a matter of days. Ryan was never expecting that the random girl at the gas station would inevitably change his life for the better, and develop a connection that neither of them has ever felt before.

Even though this book didn’t feel rushed and was full of brilliant things, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book from start to finish - I personally felt that the circumstances revolving around Ryan & Rebecca relationship, was brilliant to see and that they had an undeniable connection from the start, but the events that continue to unfold felt unrealistic to me, too fast - even if they were perfect for each other. Another thing that stumped me was how abruptly it stopped - I expected to enjoy more about their relationship but it just stopped and got the book set up for the commencement of Book 2 (which I must say I am looking forward to reading).

I can’t wait to read Book 2 in this series to see whether the characters are just as brilliant as this one - this is a brilliant read that you shouldn’t miss.

Small Town Hero (Small Town Brides Book 1)
By: Kim Koby
5 out of 5 stars

The story Small Town Hero (Small Town Brides Book 1) by Kim Koby is a wonderful romance book that I loved reading. It is a story that draws you in from the very beginning and one that I didn’t want to put down until I had read the final page. I loved reading about the characters of Rebecca and Ryan. Rebecca is a woman who is in pain and feels betrayed. All because of the actions of her fiancé and best friend. She is a woman who is used to living in a large city and also to her expensive belongings. She has found herself stranded in Tennessee. Ryan is a firefighter who has also experienced heartache. He is a man that is kind, helpful, and generous. He is one that lives an uncomplicated life. When they first meet Rebecca has her guard up and there is tension between them. That tension fades and they find they are comfortable talking with each other. They have lived completely different lives and come from two separate places miles apart. Is there a chance that Ryan and Rebecca could help mend each other’s broken souls? Will their chance encounter lead to something more? Read this book to find out. This is a sweet romance that warmed my heart. It had my emotions going up and down like a rollercoaster. Both Ryan and Rebecca are characters that I grew to love with each chapter that I read. This is a wonderfully written story that I would highly recommend reading.

This was my first time reading anything from Ms. Kim Koby. I just assumed this would be a sweet romance from the cute and inviting cover. I was very much so correct and then some. This was the perfect Sunday afternoon read. Just something lighthearted to devour. I really enjoyed the banter that eventually built between the two MC’s. However, this book missed the mark a bit for me. I have to say I get where it was going. I just wanted more. More hero, and a little less big city spoiled brat. I get that concept, and it has worked before, a thousand times actually, but here it just never fully developed. With that said it was a cute set up with characters that that I either started out loving or eventually grew on me.

Being stranded in Tennessee is no joke to Rebecca. She is used to expensive things and comfort. On top of not having the creature comforts she is emotionally hurting as well. This all thanks to her ex-fiancé and best friend. Ryan is a local firefighter. He is a polar opposite of Rebecca and prefers the simpler things in life. Ryan also has a painful past that haunts him. For some reason though, these two find a connection and begin to confide in each other. Will they be able to mend each other’s broken pieces? The writing is strong and will have you convinced that there is love in even the most confusing of situations. I would be interested in seeing what the next novel has in store. “Small Town Girl” is available now! Happy reading!

A great read about kindness. After finding out her fiancée cheated on her, Rebecca runs away in her car with no destination in mind. When her car breaks down, a local man Ryan comes to her rescue. She is hesitant at first, as a stranger in a new town, but soon realises there are little other options in the middle of nowhere. While her car is being fixed, she stays at his house for a few days. Will her time there make her think things through?
A great read. Well developed plot. Well developed characters like Rebecca's harsh exterior but kind nature underneath or Ryan doing the right thing and supportive nature. Also a sweet dog called Chief who will melt your heart.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with Ryan's little house small but full of colour with gravel path and the garden and kitchen as a cosy place or the calming natural imagery in scenes on the back porch under the stars as a safe space away from it all. I also loved the use of contrasts throughout the novel like city and country, New Jersey and Tennessee, busy and quiet or dressy and casual wear which were combined to perfection to display the differences between the two. and amde for a captivating read. The only issue i would raise is that sometimes the dialogue was repetitive and I felt a conflict int he middle such as the mechanics not having parts or something would have made the ending stronger. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.

Small Town Hero was a good 4 star read and book one in the Small Town Brides series.

Rebecca walks in on her fiance and best friend in bed, in shock she finds herself in her car driving for hours. When she stops for a rest her car ends up breaking down, now she is stranded in a town 10 hours away from home.

Ryan meets Rebecca when he wakes her up in her car. There is something about her that draws him in. When she discovers her car is broke down he offers to help her. When they find that the hotel is under construction, Ryan offers his home to Rebecca. These two get to know each other and grow closer as the days pass.

What will happen when Rebecca’s car is fixed and she goes home? Can they have a long distance relationship?

The secondary characters were good and I loved Chief. There's some twists and a jealous ex. I liked Rebecca and the gift she was saving for her future husband, she has a lot to deal with and finding Ryan was great timing. Ryan was great, he had some heartbreak in the past. Rebecca was a refreshing new start for him to pursue. I found myself wanting more in certain areas, things seemed a little rushed. I liked how things came together in the end but I would have liked to see more, it felt like it stopped abruptly with no epilogue. I do however look forward to reading more from this series, would like to read about Ryan’s brothers and sister.

Small Town Hero (Small Town Brides #1) by Kim Koby
5 out of 5 stars
Small Town Hero is the first book in the Small-Town Brides written by Kim Koby and it’s the first book that I have read by this author. I just loved Ryan and his beliefs and how he is an all-around great guy. Then you have Rebecca she has standards and beliefs that she stands by. This is a love story about betrayal, finding oneself, new beginning and finding the one love.
After a crushing betrayal, Rebecca spins out of control when she catches her fiancé and best friend in bed together. She was saving herself for marriage. Grief-stricken and desperate, she finds herself stranded in Tennessee and forced to rely on the kindness of a stranger.
Ryan knows heartache the only woman he loved walked away the day he proposed to her. He knew in that instant he'd never trust his heart to another. At least he has his dog to keep him company and a good job as a local firefighter.

I highly recommend this story and can’t wait to see what Ms. Koby has in-stored for us in the next book.

Small Town Hero by Kim Koby is the first book in her Small Town Brides series. This book will make you fall so deeply for the characters you will wish you could read about them forever.
Rebecca has everything she could possibly want. That is until she catches her fiancé in bed with her best friend. Unable to continue on with her life as it is she flees, desperate to get away.
Which is when she meets Ryan. He is broken thanks to his own troubles past. That tends to be what happens when your girlfriend walks away from you when you propose.
Drawn to each other neither one knows if they will be able to put their grief behind them and move on. But surely they have to try. And with their connection there has never been a better time.

I absolutely loved Rebecca and Ryan. There was something about both of them that just had me falling so deep into heir story. I hoped and prayed they would find a way to make things work. I kept everything crossed that they would be able to move on with each other. Their story was so convincing and easy to easy about. The authors writing style kept the story flowing so well. This isn’t an author I have read before but I will definitely be looking at in the future!

Small Town Hero
Kim Koby
4 out of 5 stars

Small Town Hero is my first experience with Kim Koby’s writing and it also happens to be Small Town Bride book one. I wasn’t sure entirely what to expect with this book but overall I found that I enjoyed it. I was drawn to the storyline fairly quickly, I liked how the book started with a lot of emotion and kicked off right away. While the book wasn’t slow to kick off, I did feel like it took quite some time for me to connect with Rebecca. If I’m
being honest I am still not entirely sure how I feel about her character.
As far as characters go, I did really love Ryan from
the start and despite my feelings toward Rebecca, the chemistry between the two in this story was really sweet and undeniable.
Small Town Hero was short and fast paced and honestly kept me on my toes emotionally. I liked that the obstacles Ryan and Rebecca faced were realistic and relatable, really showing that “Trust was vital when it came to love.”
I would recommend Small Town Hero to anyone that enjoys short, clean romances and after the way Kim Koby ended this book I am looking forward to reading more in the series. This doesn’t have a cliffhanger ending, Kim Koby just sets us up well for who will be the next to share their
story.

Small Town Hero is the first book in the Small Town Brides series by Kim Koby. It’s a very sweet and heart-warming read that makes you feel all good inside. It’s the first book that I have read by this author and I’m sure I will read more. I devoured this whole book in one day.
Rebecca is happily planning her wedding when she finds her fiancé in bed with her best friend. Still a virgin, Rebecca was saving herself for her wedding night. Devastated by her find, she drives off and keeps on driving. After driving for 10 hours she becomes stranded in Tennessee.
Ryan is at the petrol station she is stranded at and offers to assist her by putting her up until her car is fixed. What follows is a lovely story of two people who are so drawn to one another. Both have been hurt by previous relationships and are not looking for a relationship, especially as they live 10 hour away from each other but can’t deny the spark between them.
I loved these 2 characters and the interactions between them. I couldn’t help but hope that they would get their HEA. They certainly deserve one. I urge anyone who loves a good, sweet romance to read this book.

Small Town Hero (Small Town Brides Book 1) by Kim Koby

5 Stars

I loved this story so so much!! I can't explain why I fell in love with both of the characters Rebecca and Ryan so fast but I did, I loved the writing style in this book..It read so smooth and also very quick but never felt rushed or crammed with content...It felt complete and real, the dialogue between the characters made me feel as if I was standing right there involved in the conversations.

As much as I disliked the conversation between Rebecca and her mother I could completely understand both sides..Im a Mom and I can absolutely see myself reacting the same way, this is why I say this book felt very real. I am so so glad I found this author, I have a feeling that reading her books will constantly leave me wanting more of them as this is how I feel right now.

I can't wait to read the 2nd in this series and learn more about Ryan's family. I love small towns, I grew up in one and miss it all the time. This was awesome and I highly recommend this book and this author.

(Small Town Brides Book 1)
By Kim Koby
4 Stars

This is my first book by this author and i enjoyed it from start to finish. This author has a great writing style that pulls you in and keeps you reading until the very last page. It was a lighthearted and easy to read romance.
The main characters name is Rebecca. She had a huge blow/betrayal to her life when she finds her best friend and soon to be husband in bed together (and to think she saved herself for that jerk). Determined to get away from the heartache she starts driving. She doesn't stop until her car gives out on her 10 hrs away from home. Being stuck with a broken down car, Rebecca is forced to rely on a man that offers to help her. In this major twist of events could she have found the one thing she needed?
I also enjoyed all of the secondary characters in this book and loved the banter between the main characters. This maybe my first book by this author but it will not be my last.
I would recommend this to a friend.

Small Town Hero is the first book in Kim Koby’s Small Town Brides’ series. It is the first book I have read by this writer so I was not so sure what to expect after reading the blurb … I expected a sweet, a simple love story about love and lost and betrayal and new beginnings. And it was all this. It was a bit too simple for me and I like more complex characters and more layers in my love stories but at the same time I would say that if you just need couple of hours to get your head into something else that makes you feel good, the book does its job!
Small Town Hero is the story of Rebecca and Ryan – Rebecca gets stranded in Tennessee where Ryan is a local firefighter. So you throw together a city girl and a small town hero and you get the ‘opposites attract’ storyline … yes, it is predictable but heck, sometimes you do need something simple to warm your heart and it not a bumpy ride that leaves you emotionally drained!
I am looking forward to checking out the second book in the series to see also how the writer evolves in her writing.

Small Town Hero: Small Town Brides (Book 1) by Kim Koby

Small Town Hero by Kim Koby is a clean romance following Rebecca after she discovers her fiancé in bed with her best friend. She leaves and just drives until the point of exhaustion. After pulling off at a gas station to fill up and rest she wakes up 4 hours later to a car that refuses to start. After harassing her for loitering Ryan takes it upon himself to help her. After discovering that the nearest hotel is closed down for remodeling he offers to let her stay at his place in the guest room. Little does he know how much this small gesture would impact both of their lives.

I was amazed at how well Rebecca handled everything. If I were in her place I probably would have shut down and fallen into a world of despair. I loved how she was able to move past everything and even bring new joy into Ryan's life. This beautiful novel was well written and clean. It focused mostly on n renewal but also shared how important the main characters faith was. I really enjoyed this novel and give it an easy 5-star rating.

This is the first book in the Small Town Brides series and let me say this is an amazing start to the series and a great introduction to author Kim Koby for me. I was instantly drawn into the story, only imagining the pain Rebecca must've felt seeing her fiancé and best friend in bed together. I believe I too would run away, hoping to distance myself from the situation to gain more clarity, but one thing I don't think I would do would instantly fall in love with a complete stranger, but that's just me.

Because of the rushed relationship between Ryan and Rebecca, I hoped by the end of the book that these characters made the right decision and, though I didn't agree with the ending myself, it was incredibly sweet, and I put the book down with a smile.

Small Town Hero is well written, with characters that, though could've been a bit more developed, are incredibly lovable and relatable. I cannot wait to read the other books in the Small Town Brides series, and now have a new clean author romance author to keep my eye on.

A small Town romance with no heat at all.
A short, contemporary romance that is about second chance in finding the one. Rebecca walks in on her fiancé and.best friend in bed together, she walks out to her car and drives for 10hrs before breaking down in the middle of basically nowhere, Ryan rescues her after initially they clash.
After a few days she goes home looses her job collects her possessions from her fiancés place, this was very understated and I was under whelmed.
She didn’t bring up the affair with her best friend with him and really didn’t make much of anything neither did she talk to the friend so really there was no drama which for me I missed, she then drove back to Ryan and they married a week later.
It was a nice read but not exciting at all, I was left a bit disappointed if I’m being honest.
A bit of drama to spice it up would have been more my kind of read.
Heat level 0
Drama 0
Connection 5

Small Town Hero (Small Town Brides, #1)
By Kim Koby
5 stars

I loved this story! From the very beginning I fell completely in love with Rebecca and Ryan. With Rebecca fleeing after catching her fiancé in bed with her best friend and Ryan having been hurt by the woman he loved I absolutely knew that I wanted them to be together. Rebecca had a feisty attitude which I loved but I could also tell it was a front so it didn’t seem like she was hurt by her fiancés betrayal as she was. Ryan was such a sweetheart – I fell for him straight away. He was so kind and caring and not to mention incredibly hot!
I liked the storyline, I guess it was a little predictable but I honestly didn’t care because I was so swept up in the sweet romance between the two main characters! I thought the writing was good and the pace and flow was excellent.
I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.

Beautiful Romance story.

Rebecca wants to be the pure bride. So no sleeping around till she marries. She thought she had found her true prince. When she comes home and finds him and her best friend in bed together. She gets in her car and drives, until she can figure out what her next move should be. Breaking down 10 hours later in Tennessee, is not what she had planned. But there she is!

Ryan is a firefighter and has had his heart broken. But his heart is still on his sleeve. Finding a stranded beautiful lady, he helps her out. That's just the beginning of this beautiful love story.

Kim Koby has brought HEA back in this story. I love her characters and the way she made her book come to life. While this is a short story, it's content is loaded with real to life event's. I can't wait to read book 2 in this series. This book is also a safe read for those teen girls. I think they would enjoy it as well.

Small Town Hero by Kim Koby is book one of the Small Town Brides Series. Prior to reading this book, I hadn’t read anything by the author but I saw a review for this book and was exciting to jump in. I was not disappointed. This was such a sweet romance and I couldn’t put it down.

Rebecca is feisty but most of that is to cover how she’s truly feeling after the huge betrayal she was forced to experience. Ryan, though, has experienced his own heartache. He’s no stranger to what Rebecca’s feeling. Rebecca and Ryan couldn’t be more different but they find that there is quite the connection between them. Will they be able to explore the connection and mend each other’s broken hearts?

I enjoyed this book. It was sweet. The characters definitely developed through the book. It was pretty lighthearted but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series holds.

Small Town Hero (Small Town Brides Book 1) By Kim Koby. This book was everything I was looking for to read right now. From page one I was drawn in and completely hooked until the last page. I read it in one sitting because I just couldn’t stop. Rebecca and Ryan just have this incredible connection you feel jump off the pages. Rebecca and Ryan both know heartache and while Rebecca’s is a little fresher they are each trying to find their footing again. The author writes a story that comes alive in you mind and has you feeling all the emotions written in the story right in your own heart. I was rooting for these two amazing characters all the way and love them so much. I’m excited to see where the author takes readers next. I’m definitely adding this one to my read again list because I’ll need to revisit Rebecca and Ryan again for sure. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend it to all the romance readers out there!
