Genealogy queries such as these have long been a means for family researchers to share information. Although written by persons seeking information, the wealth of detail in them could prove valuable to you if you are working on the same line or lines. The information in this locale-focused volume may also be useful to historians working to get a more complete picture of the area's settlement and the families who lived here.

Bibb County was created in 1818. It was first named Cahawba County. The county was renamed Bibb in 1820, in honor of William W. Bibb, who served as governor of the Alabama Territory and as first governor of the State of Alabama. Centreville is the county seat of Bibb County. Other cities and towns include Brent and West Blocton.

Chilton County was established in 1868. Originally it was called Baker County. The name was changed to Chilton in 1874, in honor of William Parish Chilton, Sr., chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and later a representative in the Congress of the Confederate States of America. Chilton is known for its agricultural products, especially peaches. The Appalachian foothills end in the county, and the land gives way to the beginning of the Black Belt prairie that was long a center of cotton production in the state. Clanton is the county seat. Other cities and towns include Jemison, Maplesville, and Thorsby.

Shelby County was created in 1818, named for Revolutionary War hero and first governor of Kentucky, Isaac Shelby. The first county seat was at Shelbyville, a settlement located within the modern city limits of Pelham. The county seat was moved to its present location of Columbiana (then called Columbia) in 1826. Parts of Shelby County are crossed by the southernmost extensions of the Appalachian Mountains. However, large parts of the county are much flatter, which historically provided good lands for dairying and other agriculture..Cities and towns in Shelby County include Alabaster, Calera, Chelsea, Columbiana, Helena, Montevallo, Pelham, Harpersville, Indian Springs Village, Westover, Wilsonville, Vincent, and Wilton.
