The Corps has been integrated by imperial decree—but that doesn’t mean everyone accepts the wyntonan Marines. Despite an impressive combat record as a grunt, Corporal Leif Hollow struggles to become an effective NCO and leader of Marines. When then the trumpets of war sound, however, Marines forget about differences and come together to accomplish the mission. But when the odds are stacked against them, and the empire’s very existence is at stake, will that be enough?
I am a retired Marine colonel and now a full-time writer living in Colorado Springs with my wife, Kiwi, and infant twin daughters, Danika Dawn and Darika Marie.
I published my first work back in 1978, a so-so short story titled "Secession." Since then, I have been published in newspapers, magazines, and in book format in fiction, political science, business, military, sports, race relations, and personal relations fields. I returned to writing fiction in 2009, and I currently have over 85 titles published, 52 being novels. My novelette, "Weaponized Math," was a finalist for the 2017 Nebula Award, and my novella, "Fire Ant," was a 2018 Nebula finalist. My novel "Integration" was a 2018 Dragon Award finalist, and my novel "Sentenced to War" was a 2021 finalist. I am a USA Today Bestelling writer.
My undergraduate degree was earned at the U. S. Naval Academy (Class of 1979), and I have attended graduate school at U. S. International University and the University of California, San Diego, earning a masters and doctorate. I am a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the US. Naval Academy Alumni Association, and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
I have rather eclectic tastes. I have won awards in photography, cooking, wrting, and several sports, earning national championships in rugby and equestrian events. When I'm not writing, I'm reading, cooking, going to the gym, or traveling. I attend quite a few cons over the course of a year, and love meeting other people who love books.
I write because I love it. I only hope that others might read my work and get a bit of enjoyment or useful information out of my efforts.
As an author, I don't think it is fair for me to rate any other author's books here on Goodreads if that rating is less than five stars. I have certainly read many books that do not deserve five (or four, three, or even two). However, I will not rate any of those here while I am a Goodreads author. Consequently, I will only be listing books that I really like and feel deserve five stars.
As a disabled veteran, and a member of DAV, I have not been able to interface with the those of you who have served our nation with pride and honor. Another reason I enjoy Breezes books so much is I was never in a combat situation, as enlisted naval I am not able to comment on combat situations. I want to thank you for helping me understand different scenarios. I have started reading your books from Recruit onward. Please keep going on with all the "Ghost Recruit".
I’ve been a fan of several of the military sci-fi series put out by Jonathan P. Brazee, having read everything he’s produced except for his Ghost Marines series. They were uniformly superb, reeking of authenticity (something I know a bit about from second hand tales as half my family has served both as enlisted soldiers - my dad was a senior NCO - and officers - my uncle was a army Colonel and his son, my best man, is a navy Commander), and with imaginative plots abs truly well crafted characters. Well, now I’ve done and cleaned up, reading the few books that had been unread. I tried holding off reading Ghost Marines until the series was completed but just could not resist. I’m sorta glad I didn’t. I’ve now binged through Integration, Unification and Devotion (Books 1 to 3). Wow were these incredibly good. A main character who is an alien historically treated as a second class citizen abs in the first group now permitted to serve in combat arms (shades of integration of Blacks into the US military), an Empire in decay but potentially resurgent. Politics on the grand stage. Perfectly crafted action. Character and race creation that wonderfully imaginative. These books have it all, and they’re all perfectly done. My only regret, even though each book does end in a “Happily Enough for Now” even if not a “Happily Ever After”, is that now I have to actually wait for Book 4, Fusion to come out. I’m greedy and really hope that happens soon. In the meantime, each of these books, and the entire series so far, are highly recommended.
A Good story with a measure of forgiveness and redemption at the end, referring to a small part of book 1. Good writing of combat, of an JACk's need to watch, care for, Integrate his team, to be ready to step into the leadership.gap combat may introduce into the unit. Of how failure to be totally aware can unjustifiable impact a career. They writing showed a lot of compassion and awareness of change, or the ability to change with time and circumstances, to grow in understanding and acceptance of differences, to accept that we don't all have to look the same, like the same things, to share common goals, sometimes worth fighting or dying for. Liked the linking of Sousa and the Empress, and the maturing of Sousa as the story progresses Looking forward to book ê
OooRah Bro.. Another Great Military Science Fiction Story
Doesn't Matter What Branch Of the Military a Veteran Served, Nor, What Year, Or Under What Flag.. Only Someone Who Actually Survived, Can Imagine What The Boot Camp Experience, Or Surviving An Actual Fire-Fight Is REALLY Like! Few Story Tellers, have the knowledge, or are clever enough to Put those experiences into a narrative that will touch all who read it! Thank your Sir! For.. Another Brilliant Science Fiction Adventure Series! Pete Roland Miami Beach Florida August 2018
Not bad at all, really enjoyed it. Did think it was a little slow to start but when you read the title and read what is in the story it explains everything. The first part tells you what is happening in the story then the rest is the same but with more action, the story really is what the title says and reading the characters story you realize why he changes and ooopps giving the story away again. Read and enjoy I did and have just finished downloading the next book hope it's just as good.
I am a Disabled Vietnam Vet with just under twelve years service. I've been in 'Lefens' predicament, in fact that was the case for my first five years, it was even worse in country. I applaud the manner in which you brought up the issue of prejudice with and outside of the military and I look forward to the next book in the series.
Prejudice dies in unification. Col. Brazee does a great job of showing the cost of prejudice. Sometimes it takes sacrifice by those who are pre-judged. Is it right that the pre-judged have to sacrifice? No! But often it is the sacrifice and the clinging to righteousness that overcomes prejudice. I recommend this book!
Basically this series explores the racist tensions between groups of people joining together to fight for their society. A theme explored over and over again, but this one is interesting and the interplanetary concept adds new meaning. A good story, with good characters and a few decent skirmishes.
The books in this series are getting more exciting. You know and hope the main characters will not die, but surprises happen.
The author is a Marine, so he knows how to write Marine Corp stories. Even if the story is set in the future and with different people other than humans. We should learn from this.
The story continues from book 1. Action packed, exciting and interesting. Although this is set in the future, it is primarily based on what the author feels the Marines of the future will be like and how they will hold on to the ideals of their predecessors.
I thought the first book was good then I read Unification and didn't want to put it down. I read it in 2 days and loved it. Now I'm going to read the 3 rd book.
I decided to reread the first book before I started the second, then I was fully up to speed on who the various character were. Glad I did as I enjoyed it as much as the first time I read it. Then came the pleasure of reading book two. A W E S O ME ! ! ! Need I say more?
Second book in a series with space marines - after the emperor integrated various humanoid species. The protagonist experiences discrimination and in the first book learned to be a Marine, with the brotherhood involved.
This 2nd book he's a corporal and his unit does fighting to save the emperor's family from rebels, and we see more fighting, as well as other "racial" issues (with other humanoids).
There is a third book in the works, which I will get as soon as it is available.
