What if you could text with important people throughout history?
Alex, a curious child, gets to do just that! In this first book of the “Texting with History” series, Alex texts with Andy Warhol the pop artist and learns about his artworks. Who knew soup cans could be considered art?!
The art of Andy Warhol requires some explanation, and this book explains it in a kid friendly way. Kids feel part of the conversation as Andy texts about his childhood struggles and becoming an internationally recognized artist. The book uses modern day texting bubbles children understand and enjoy!
The perfect book for teaching your child about history, careers, and believing in yourself!

Bobby Basil loves writing books that entertain, educate, and enthrall readers from ages 2-12 (and their parents, of course). He has also written for Disney, Nickelodeon, Amazon Studios, and many other entertainment companies. He is the author of the children's travel book series "Travel Bug", biography book series "Texting with History", and ESL Spanish/English language teaching book series "Pedro & Pete."
I found this book to be a clever way to introduce young readers to read biographies. In this first book of the series, a nine-year-old boy named Alex is texting Andy Warhol because he wants to learn about this famous artist. Alex is not yet sure about what career path he will pursue, but he does like to draw. As the conversation proceeds, readers learn about the life of Andy Warhol as well as pop art.
Warhol answers the questions carefully. He tries to give a lot of information, while not steering Alex into making choices. He tells Alex not to rush making decisions and to keep an open mind. Children who do not like to read a lot of text will pick up a lot of information in the clearly delineated speech bubble format. This is especially good for beginning and reluctant readers or children with learning disabilities.
Good idea but ... I found the idea of this book good, and the texts are understandable and clear for young children. It allows to discover the man that was Andy Warhol. However, what I missed was the illustrations. The book is written as a discussion on a phone and has none of his work to enlighten the words. So on the one hand it is informative to explain children art if they want to become artists, but on the other hand, there is no example, probably because the book is like a simplified biography, but I really found that pity. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
This is a very creative way to get kids to explore different jobs, positions or careers. It even has me looking forward to the next book. Who will the next person be? Will it be Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello or Raphael or maybe even a famous movie star, a rapper, Astronaut or an inventor. Texting is what kids love to do, and they will surely enjoy these books. I know my grandsons did.
Really cute idea. REALLY good message. DESPERATELY needs pictures of Warhol's art! The one sorta-soup-can on the cover just isn't enough - but two or three ACTUAL images would have been - or even a picture of Warhol with his art recognizably in background. (Yes, I realize that would probably have cost money. Maybe pick artists whose work is in the public domain?) 2.5 stars. Would have been a 4 or 4.5 with images.
As a fellow children's author, I love the idea behind this book series! What a creative, original idea for a nonfiction series! I like how the book was not only educational about the life and art of Andy Warhol, but also was written in a short, catchy format that even reluctant readers are likely to enjoy! Will have to check out others in the series when I get a chance.
I love the texting series by this author. A short story designed for kids and kids understand texting. They get to learn while reading a very imaginative exchange between important people. In this case, it is Andy Warhol and is a great tool for learning.

Books like this are so informational for children and hold such a wealth of knowledge. I really enjoy reading books, like this one and many others to my children, for if you start them young then they will grow to have a love for reading and adventure!
A child texts with Andy Warhol. They share some interesting insights about art and creativity but what I really wanted to know is how the child managed to text with a dead person. Because there are some people I'd like to text.
I like the idea of putting short biographies (for children) into the text-message format. I think this will keep children's attention better than normal biographical books. Bravo to you for that!
I thoroughly enjoy reading these type of children books, for they always teach my children an important life lesson in a simple and easy way that they can understand. It's important for children today to have morals, and the only way that they will obtain them is if they are taught from a young age.
