Wanted: Wild Thing is the fourth installment in Jessica Sims's urban fantasy romance series titled: Midnight Liaisons. This one was predictable from the first chapter but it was still a ton of fun to read. It's a mixture between bodyguard romance, pretend boyfriend, and present-day neanderthal, all with twice the virgin territory...yep, both of them! There was a lot of humor thrown into this one related to caveman culture shock. Lesson learned: If you are trying to educate a neanderthal about love, romance, and sex, don’t show him pizza delivery porn. That's all I have to say. Hysterical!!

I experienced Wanted: Wild Thing via audiobook and the performance was both awesome and somewhat corny in my opinion. I loved the vibrancy of the heroine’s voice; the accent was perfect! It was fun and flirty, and again...just perfect for the character’s personality. But the hero? OMG, it drove me crazy unfortunately. I couldn't tell if he was supposed to sound like a caveman or a badly narrated Native American. And just so you know, those two should by no means be interchangeable. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would absolutely recommend it to readers who follow this series. Enjoy!

My favorite quote:
“Now she will go wild and offer him sex, he has pizza to give her.” “What . . .” Bathsheba said, baffled. She shrank back a step or two. "Don’t ask,” I said. “And whatever you do, do not accept the pizza.”

Note: Jessica Sims's Midnight Liaisons series includes the following installments as of September 2016.
1-Beauty Dates the Beast
2-Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter
2.1-Vixen
2.3-Speed Mating
2.6-Single Wolf Female
3-Must Love Fangs
3.5-Bear Naked
3.6-Claws & Effect
4-Wanted: Wild Thing
4.5-Tiger by the Tail
5-Alpha Ever After

I was afraid that Ryder would get on my nerves with her love of all things Pink! But I grew to love her bubbly personality that had me laughing out loud at times. And her Hugh grew on me and made me want a Primordial!

First Thought
Sexy virginal cave lovin'.
Ryder
I was excited to get to Ryder's story, it was going to be my first dragon shifter novel. But Ryder is not a dragon, she's a changeling. What's the difference? Not really sure since she has characteristics of a dragon; scales, wings and a tail.

Ryder is a big flirt but she actually has very little experience with men because of her secret. See anytime she is touched by a man she starts to change into her other form. But a fortuneteller told her that her true love will break her "curse".
Hugh
Hugh is a great character. He's new to our world. He's big, quite and kind of yummy. Hugh is working for a Fae that claims to have ownership of Ryder.  The Fae Prince has tasked Hugh with guarding Ryder until her 25th birthday which is only a few weeks away.

As Hugh gets to know Ryder he realizes he doesn't want to turn her over to the Fae Prince but keep her for himself.
Final Thought
Wanted: Wild Thing is a sexy version of Shrek. LOL Really Ryder and Hugh was a cute and sweet couple, you should check them out.
Narration
I've had a print copy of Wanted: Wild Thing for a few months now and was getting to read it when I received the audio from Tantor for review so I went with the audio. Since it took a so long for the audio to be published I assumed they were not going to record it. I guess schedules or something push the production back. Leah Mallach did another good job the narration. She brought Ryder's perky personality to life and made her super sweet.  Mallach's southern accent is over the top and that usually bugs me since I'm a southern but it really works for this series and especially for Ryder.

In Wanted: Wild Thing we have a story that continues the series of Midnight Liasons. Now this is a series I fell in love with years ago when the first book came out and I love each story of this series and Jessica Sims AKA Jessica Clare and Jill Myles. Jessica Sims is her PNR name and I love how fresh these books are. Each story we see more into this fabulous series and in Wanted: Wild Thing we see something new happen. We have a new set of paranormal creatures come into play here, ones we haven’t seen yet. Our heroine, is a “changeling” she works at the Midnight Liasons setting up matches between paranormal creatures such as vampires, sirens, and shifters. But she has a secret she has kept from her closest friends, she is a changeling–she is coming upon her 25th birthday, she is still a virgin and not because she wants it. Whenever she gets aroused, her beast from within comes out to play. But she was told from a seer that if she can find her true mate, she won’t transform and once she loses her virginity she can be her normal self. But then a Fae comes in claiming she is his “pet” to do with as he wishes. He brings her a bodyguard, and within a month her transformation will be complete but her bodyguard has to stay by her side at all time. This put a serious kink into her plans. Then we have our hero, Hugh. A big hunky male that is all toughness and muscles. He has never been in the human world before, his kind lives in a fae realm. He has never been around women, and is out of his element when it comes to flirty females.

Now this was a story that was so entertaining. I was able to snatch it up from my library’s audiobook system: Hoopla. I want to talk about the narration for a bit. Now I think in the past I have been extremely lucky to have found narrators that I instantly fell in love with. But I will be honest this narrator threw me off for a bit and I had trouble at first adjusting. But eventually she grew on me. I think the southern accent is what threw me off. But after a little while, I grew accustomed to it. What is most fun about this story was seeing the conflict between these two. I loved that they were both virgins (that hardly EVER happens in romances especially in paranormals and contemporary type settings!!) And boy did I love that aspect. Because its orginial and felt fresh and new. This really adds something different to the story because we see how these two really struggle with the chemistry they feel for each other. We see both sides on the conflict. Because Rhyder, wants to be free of her creature, she doesn’t want to be a kept pet by the fae and be breeded all of her existence. She wants love and freedom. The only way to have that is to have sex and there is only one person that has seen her true form and accepted her fully. The only problem is he can’t touch her. The fae has promised that if Rhyder comes into full bloom of her changeling form, than Hugh and his primordial’s (all 24) will be given their mates. None of them have ever known family, love or passion. They just know stark loneliness and living a empty life. He is the leader of must think of his people first.

What was most heartbreaking was seeing these two together and how much they truly cared about one another but both were in a tough spot. This conflict is what drives the story and I couldn’t help but fall in love with every aspect of this story. I love the way these two are with each other. Having both of them as virgins, is something that I loved the most about this book. I like that they learn each other on the same level, both have zero experience but they both are passionate and it was quite fun to see the way they come together. This is a PNR that is sweet, fun and highly entertaining. Packed with emotional depth, endearing characters, and a story line to keep you going. Nothing held back in Wanted: Wild Thing. I am eager to see if Sims does more with these Primordial males because dang they sure are sexy and I want more of them.

WANTED: WILD THING was a sweet ending to a fun series about a paranormal dating agency. While I wasn’t as thrilled by this one as I was for the previous books it still had its charm and amusing quirky character moments that I’ve come to enjoy in the Midnight Laisions series. Where the previous book featured mostly shifters and vampires WANTED: WILD THING put a bit more emphasis on fairies and revealed the big secret of Ryder, one of the employees of the Midnight Liaisons dating agency. I would have liked to learn a bit more about fae culture but from the fae we meet I don’t think it would be a very nice place to visit. Most of the plot revolves around Ryder trying to get out of being sold into slavery by the fae who have charged Hugh with the task of protecting her chastity. Unfortunately the every perky Ryder who has never been touched due to her fae nature reacting poorly to contact, connected very well with Hugh who has not had much human contact either over the years. I thought the plot of Ryder trying to lose her virginity while Hugh tries to protect it was an okay plot but I didn’t feel that much urgency or tension as it seemed like such an easy and inevitable fix.

On the romance front, I liked Hugh and Ryder together. They seemed like a very sweet pair but I didn’t feel any real heat between them. Sure there was romance and I loved that they were able to connect and relate to each other easily but there was just something missing between them for me. I thought Hugh was adorable. Hugh is a very old shifter and seeing him trying to understand modern day quirks was really hilarious especially his understanding of the pizza delivery man.

WANTED: WILD THINGS isn’t really that great of a series end though I do wonder if this is actually the end as Jessica Sims’s site says she will be writing another story. The world of this series is what I fell in love with and I really do hope there is one more book or some short stories to feed my appetite for this series. While this book was not great it was sweet and had all of the right elements I loved about the Midnight Liaisons series.

This series is such a guilty pleasure of mine! I don't usually like chick lit, but this series just calls to me. It's always so cute in an unpredictable way. The love Mrs. Sims writing style and that's probably what makes this such an enjoyable and silly read.

Ryder was always that character that you'd eventually want to know more about, but got distracted with the real story line in the other novels. She's the flirty office assistant that everybody likes, but she has a secret. The aforementioned secret was loosely mentioned in the previous novels, but it was never in the spotlight. It was really satisfying to finally get a glimpse of what she was hiding. After the first chapter I was hooked.

Hugh was the shifter version of a neanderthal. His animal (much like the homo neanderthalensis) is extinct. Though it takes some time for the reveal to happen, I was still flabbergasted. I loved that plot twist. My guesses were all out of the ball park. At one point (because of Hugh's size and his mention of primordials) I was guessing dinosaur.

By the end when all of Hugh's "brothers" agree to get out of dodge I was having a laughing fit! It's so funny to see these adult beings handling modern technology (something that's considered the usual for most of us) like strange unknown contraptions.

I must admit that I did predict a few turn of events. I also thought the ending felt a little TOO neatly tied up. It seemed like the author could have prolonged that as a subplot for another character, but chose not to. I wonder what she has in store for the future of most of these characters.

Conclusion: I really hope there will be more books/novellas in this series.

My Favorite Quotes:

"He glared at me. 'My drinking vessel broke'".

"Bring us to the land of eager women. I will feed them".

"The best day of my life was the day I agreed to ruin yours (...)".

Wanted: Wild Thing is full of logical loopholes. When you find prehistoric shifter forced upon you as a bodyguard/keeper, you know that the guy is going to have way too hard a time making sense of whatever modern society works like and all its contraptions. The book simply brushes over it. I get it, it's a light romance, and I'm not supposed to tax my brain so much, but dayum!

On a serious note, it would've seemed more appropriate if the the leads were a little more aware of the fact that they're supposed to make a better show of getting used to the millennia between them. He's a sabre-tooth shifter for all our sake!

But let's leave it at that. Here are the good points about the story:-
1)The romance is cool enough.
2)We get to see mentions of the likeable characters from the previous stories.

3.5 Estrellas!

Not my favorite in this series (I hate sneaky faeries and there is reckless use of glitter) but still fun—especially because there are primordial shifters!

This is a book about a horny woman trying to get a man sworn to celibacy break his vow. It started out good, but then it kept getting worse. She was so selfish and annoying. And I read it because it had double virgins, but that detail wasn't actually very significant here. She even said she wished one of them wasn't a virgin, so the sex could be easier. I choose double virgin books because of the romance and it being special for both of them, and it wasn't the case here. The heroine was only interested in sleeping with someone, and it almost seemed like she didn't care who it was.

I chose this book because I love, love, love, the strong, hunky, grumpy, hero virgin of an earlier book in this series, Ramsey of “Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter”. Never a more perfect virgin written.

Even though perfection can not be improved on, I decided to check out other virgin heroes that Jessica Sims has created. And she found a way to make one even more innocent that Ramsey. This author is amazing.

But this heroine is ruining my hero.
1. She keeps showing him pornos. Not only will this lessen the innocence of his de-virginizing, it is going to teach him bad habits. You want to hand train your virgin to your specific style.
2. For reasons I don’t want to “spoil” he does not want to have sex with her. And she keeps pushing and scheming and tricking him into touching her. If she succeeds in this way he will never forgive either of them. She may regret this.

Then again, I am focusing on his needs more than hers. If I am objective I see her POV. She needs to do this. I need to keep my eye on the plot and not just the virgin hero’s journey to sex.

Virgin rating:
Innocence of virgin hero: 5/5 (never even seen a female before)
Innocence in losing it: 4.5/5
Build up to losing it: 2/5
Hotness of losing it: 5/5
Busted touching himself: no

Though this is the 4th and final novel (there a a couple of novella’s too) in this series they can each be read stand alone.
In Wanted: Wild Thing we finally get the answer to what kind of shifter Ryder is. Ryder is the flirty, sweet, quirky supposed human who works for Midnight Liaisons a dating service for the local paranormal population. She helps others find their mates but she has yet to find hers. She has a problem in that whenever she touches a guy she is sexually attracted to her shifter side comes to the fore. She has no love for her shifter side. She thinks it is ugly and will frighten off anyone who might come to love her. When she meets Hugh she has reason not to like him but he may be fierce enough to handle her shifter side but at what cost.
I really got a kick out of this series and am saddened that it is ending. This is a check your brain at the door and enjoy the escape type series. This book was a bit more serious than the others but in the end just as enjoyable.

Warning! This book (and review) contains triggers.

The plot contains some pretty chilling elements all of these elements added to amp up the drama but played for laughs.

(Think The Handmaid's Tale or Never Let Me Go but supposed to be funny?)

I found the

This book was certainly entertaining, but disturbing. I found that squicky. Romance was cute if you can disregard the rest.

I was disappointed that the heroine wasn't a dragon shifter but the changeling idea was neat and so was the Ice Age shifter. There are mature themes that I thought were glossed over or taken lightly that otherwise would have made this into horror I did not care for the use of porn as instruction videos, even for comedic effect.

Some reviewers were turned off by the non human characteristics of the characters--it didn't bother me and I thought it was done well for being alien. Two virgins also make for a lot of sexual tension. The happy ending was a relief and I would like more stories of the newly introduced primordials!

I do not's know why I wanted to finish the book...it took me 3 long days to give up...it just felt wrong to read about animals trying to have sex...

Yes I know that they are shapeshifters...but from the sexy were - anything to the idea of a bat and a cat doing it..it's just wrong.

The first book was OK, even the second one..they where light to read and a little funny...but the books kept getting from OK to wrong/worst

This series was cute and entertaining up until this book. I wanted to DNF this along the way several times but had to finish for a challenge. It was ridiculous and the serious topics of slavery of a race with the lighthearted feel just didn't work for me. I never really liked either character and the author just glossed over the fact that the hero was prehistoric and had no idea how to deal with all the modern things in this world. Skip this one!

DNF @ 38%. Oct. 5, 2014.

Amongst other books in the series, this book's a least favourite. I gave up since the book failed to capture my interest. I was wayward disappointed she wasn't a dragon but instead, a changeling. Hm. Too bad. If she were a former, I would not think about abandonment. Read on your own peril.

LOVED IT! IT WAS ORIGINAL AND HILARIOUS.

I have followed this series many years back and I'm back again to finish the rest. I'm happy to read a different type of shifter, a primordial shifter a.k.a extinct animals from the Ice Age period. That's just super cool.

HUGH is a saber tooth tiger shifter, I think the last of his kind who has been assigned by a Fae to become Ryder's chastity bodyguard. Think caveman, because Hugh definitely acted like one who never seen modern technology, ridden in a car, watched TV or ever had sex. Yep, he's a virgin. That makes the story interesting too, because Ryder's a virgin too...so they were both fumbling along the way, exploring new firsts with each other. Hugh's kind of like a curious kid in the human realm, but he's also extremely protective of Ryder as the chapters go, as he starts bonding with her and caring for the changeling.

RYDER never knew her heritage and it freaks her out that she's a changeling. To undo the curse she needs to find her True Love, but is that all there is to it? When her Fae owner whom she doesn't know about paid her a visit 1 month shy of her 25th birthday, Ryder was given the facts of who she is, what she was meant to do and her fate was pretty much doomed. Despaired yet determined to find a way out, Ryder sees the option of seducing her gruff bodyguard and hoping he will take her virginity away. Initially Ryder detests her true self, one with horns and scales - an ugly creature. Changelings like her were meant to mature on their 25th birthday and then will they bloom into magnificent beautiful creatures. As time runs out for Ryder, she never expected that she too will fall for her primordial shadow and tempt her own fate.

OVERALL it was interesting and I'm glad to see the old characters having a hand in the situation. I rather enjoyed Hugh and Ryder's chemistry, not to mention meeting the other primordial men who returned to the human realm with them. I do so wonder if they will get their own story one day.

First thing, they never once call her a dragon like in the description.
Ryder is a changeling who has been charmed to look human. They grow to be the most beautiful creature and are prized very high to the Fae. They kill the human babies and put the changelings in their place so they can grow in a safer place. Changelings aren't always beautiful and Ryder thinks she's a monster. When ever she touches a guy or gets aroused she starts to change. Once she has sex the growth to beautiful creature ends and you are stuck with looking that way.
A fae has come to collect her, she still has to "ripen". During that time she will start to become on radar for other fae so to keep her from being stolen he has a strong shiftier guard her. Hugh is a primortial. A bunch of shifters who were struggling at the beginning of time so the fae built them a new world. However, they had no woman and were lonely. He has been told that if he completes this mission everyone will get mates. However, he is sending Ryder to her doom to be used as a breeder, and then her child would be ripped away.
The worst part of this book was listening to this awful voice. It was in a horrible country accent and Ryder flirts with everyone, so the voice change to this high pitch fake southern annoyingness. I felt bad for her and was almost annoyed she wasn't breaking down, but she finally breaks some. Also, there is no epilogue.

SPOILERS:
Hugh falls for her and changes his mind. They mate and bring the rest of the primortials back to Earth. The fae had lied, there are no females.

If this was a book from almost any other author, I would give it a 1 or 2 star; I would not recommend this book for anyone other than readers who already really like the author. My overwhelming affection for Jessica Sims/Clare's writing style made it so that I really did enjoy this book... at like a 4 star level. However, the author set up a scenario that she then did not sufficiently confront the implications of it-- I'm talking like (TRIGGER WARNING) enslavement, rape, forced breeding, etc. and makes the hero a part of enforcing the scenario, albeit unwillingly. If the stakes as to why he was playing along were higher or if the story as a whole had a darker tone, this might be workable (or if the heroine had actually held his feet to the fire about his complicity), but it's tonally still a light Jessica Sims/Clare confection that's fun to read... basically, if you think about this scenario for any length of time, it will significantly tarnish your overall experience of the book. I think there's a similar issue in the next book (Alpha Ever After), but I think she did a much better job winning me over & acknowledging the underlying issues of consent, etc. in that one.
I honestly wish that this book had a lot of the same elements, but just a different external conflict. And I really would love to see more novellas with the primordials- they are a fun idea & there's so many places she could go with that group.

I am so sad to see this series end. I feel like there are so many characters left for which stories could be told, such as other Russells, specifically Savannah and Conner. I would really like to know what happens between them as it is clear in this book that the two aren't in the clear just yet. I'd also love to hear the stories of some of the primordials that now exist in the human world. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed that this is the last book in the series.

There were times that this book had me laughing out loud, largely because of the primordials' reactions to things in the human world and their resulting behavior. The way they perceive and interpret some things is quite amusing indeed (such as pizza delivery). It seems that when faced with a new object or substance, the first thing is to kick and or take a bite to determine if it's edible. This being said, some of the things they do end up eating (like toothpaste and lipstick) are most definitely not food.

The narrator did an excellent job with making unique and distinguished voices, both male and female, for the various characters.

Please note; my star rating on any book is completely subjective and limited to the label for each star.

1 Star I didn’t like it
2 Stars It was okay
3 Stars I liked it
4 Stars I really liked it
5 Stars It was amazing!

If I do actually have something to say about a book other than what my enjoyment factor was, I will write a review and share my thoughts. If I say I didn’t like a book but there wasn’t anything that about it that I thought needed to be shared particularly, then that’s it, I just didn’t like it.

If you’d like to start a discussion about a book or you’d like an actual review, ask any question you like and I’ll be happy to try and comply/respond.

Additional note; I do not feed the trolls. If you don’t have something constructive to say, or if you can’t say it in a respectful way, you won’t get a response from me. Ever.

I loved the last book, but this one made no sense. I can empathize with the MMC’s situation, but the FMC being like “I dig this dude even though he’s going to hand me over to a Fae to be a breeding slave and I feel bad that my ‘happiness’ is at the cost of other people’s.” Your “Happiness”? Nono, chica, your FREEDOM from being raped and forced pregnancy for the rest of your immortal(?) life. She never tried to run or ask for help from a readily available support system. Ugh
