Two mechanics. One rivalry.
She’ll prove she’s as good as she says she is.
He’ll prove her place isn’t under the hood.
It’s over it.

“Don’t let the bastards get you down.”
For twenty-six years, I lived by my daddy’s motto. Which is why “Mechanic Wanted” is all it takes for me to apply for the job at the garage we once owned.
And I meet the biggest bastard of them all.
Dexter Ryne. Hotter than Hell in July and a firm believer that my place is on reception, taking phone calls and looking pretty. Not getting dirty under the hood of a car.
Determined to prove each other wrong, we make a deal.
I have three weeks to prove my worth as a mechanic. If I don’t, I’m on telephone duty.
If I do, he’ll accept defeat and make my job permanent.
Now, all I have to do is fight my attraction to the cocky little… beep.
Problem is, an engine isn’t the only thing he knows how to make purr…

Dissenting opinion ahead. I seem to be the only person who feels this way.
I picked this book because of the female mechanic aspect. I thought this would be a book that challenged gender stereotypes with a strong female lead who does her job well and is respected for it with a hero who respects said woman. What I got was a sexist book filled with sexual harassment and dubious consent with a heavy dose of misogyny.
When a person (any gender) tells another person to stop leering at them, to not say sexually explicit things, to not touch them let alone kiss them, then those requests should be respected. Most especially if it is an employee stating it to their employer.
Dex is constantly saying sexually explicit things to Jamie or demeaning her based on her gender. And when she explicitly tells him not to kiss her again, he does it anyway. Granted, in the end she "wanted", but he does. Not. Know. That! He assumes and corners her then says she had ample time to resist or push him away. Excuse me. Dex had ample time to ask for consent before touching her!
Add to that, this book is filled with the h & H hating each other for no other reason than gender. They snipe at each other while constantly trying to cut each other down. This isn't sexy banter or funny or fun to read. There is no sexual tension, it is just plain old tension. They are childish and lack any ability to communicate effectively as adults.
It was annoying and tiring to read. I threw in the towel at 55%. I could not take their "relationship" anymore. I had no desire to see how they ended up, I don't care of they end up together or not. I saw no redeeming qualities in Dex by 50% and Jamie wasn't much better. I can't see myself ever liking either of them.

This was obviously not the right book for me. And, considering the current climate regarding sexual harassment, this may not be the right book for today.

I’m a big fan of enemies to lovers. Jamie and Dexter have a strong attraction despite the fact that they don’t get along. The snark that flows between them is quite entertaining. The balance between the two was executed well.

At first, Dexter comes off a certain way that wasn’t endearing him to me but then as he develops, I got to see that there’s more to him than I originally thought. His relationship with the women in his family really made me enjoy him more. It was a great use of secondary characters. Jamie is independent and strong. I liked how she carried herself and how secure she was within herself. Together, these two were sexy and just plain hot.

The plot was ok. Nothing really stood out for me aside from the female mechanic. There wasn’t an external conflict, really. I would’ve wanted a bit more, as far as the scope of the story but it was still entertaining.

Safety: Safe and without drama. No others.

Well, it was definitely funny.
Sassy heroine, sometimes a bit childish and immature, but overall a decent girl with hot temper!

I take them in any form, but please not a doormat!

The hero was ok. Poor guy, he didn’t stand any chance against her. LOL.
Liked many of their ‘sparrings’. Some were odd, but some were funny.

No drama, no OM/OW, no silly misunderstandings.

I really enjoyed this book. The story was cute and sexy. With loads of sexual tension thrown in. I really liked Dex and Jamie's characters. From the start they were fighting with each. They could never see eye to eye on anything. Dec would just get on Jamie's nerves and she would the same. Basic this is how the story goes. But the story is really good and full of very funny parts. It has my laughing out loud in quite a few parts. I really like this author her writing is really good. I would recommend this book. It light hearted fun and quite sexy. It was just what I needed.

“Just remember that no matter how hot he is or how tingly he makes your lady bits, he’s a sexist asshole who doesn’t have the capacity to give you the respect a badass chick such as yourself deserves.”

The QUEEN of Romantic Comedy has struck again! Her latest release, MISS MECHANIC, delighted, thrilled, and bulldozed its way straight to my heart! Emma Hart is a rom-com GENIUS and she proves herself time and time again. The HUGE SMILE never left my face! I always have the BEST DAMN TIME reading this author’s work. This was just ROM-COM BRILLIANCE!

If you are looking for a romance that will give you confidence, as well as make you blush from head to toe, look no further, THIS book is for YOU! If you are looking for an incredibly entertaining story that breaks down gender roles and makes you all tingly inside, THIS book is for YOU! If you are just looking for a damn good time and want to escape reality for just a while, THIS book is for YOU! You can NEVER go wrong when Emma Hart is at the wheel!

If the AMAZING book cover and the enticing blurb hasn’t convinced you, trust that I have your back. I would never steer you wrong, and in turn, Emma Hart has NEVER steered me wrong with her words. Romance readers alike will fall head over heals with heroine, just as much as they will with our hero. Dex and Jamie will make you laugh out loud! Individually or interacting as a couple, you will MELT for these characters. And don’t even get me started on the supporting cast of this book. Haley, Greta, Roxy, and even Charley will have you on the floor in a matter of minutes. I’m grinning like a big fool just thinking about them.

MISS MECHANIC is something special! It will get your motor runnin’ in more ways than one! Emma Hart does it again! This genre is her home and you can just feel her heart pouring over every single word in this book. I LOVED IT! I’m OBSESSED with it! I want to read it ALL OVER AGAIN! This book was one of those perfect weekend reading experiences for me. This was fun, light and a really enjoyable story.

Jamie has spent her whole life surrounded by cars and their engines so it was only natural that she would become a mechanic like her father. From a very young age she would help out in her dad’s garage business and there isn’t anything she doesn’t know about the cars and the people that drive them in her town.

Sadly, due to some bad personal decisions, Jamie’s dad recently had to close down his business and this has left her out of work for a while. Despite applying for several positions in the surrounding towns, she keeps getting disregarded for the roles. In this male dominated industry, a female mechanic seems just too hard to comprehend.

When Jamie gets news that her dad’s old garage has been re-opened and looking to employ a mechanic, she jumps at the chance to get immersed back into the place she feels most at home in. She never counted on Dexter Ryne though, the smoking hot guy who could be her potential boss. And boy, like all the others, he has very old views on a female working in his garage like - woman don’t belong under the bonnet of a car, maybe bent over the hood with a man behind her…. you get my drift?

'Whether or not Dexter Ryne believed I was good enough to be a mechanic in his garage was nothing more than his opinion, and since opinions were usually closer to assholes than anything else, I didn't care what he thought.'

However, Dex completely underestimated Jamie and I’m not just talking about her ability as a mechanic. She does not take shit from anyone and happily dishes out as good as she gets. Dex is regretting his lapse in judgement he had the day he agreed to give her a job trial. She definitely knows her stuff but it’s the attraction he has to her that bothers him the most, it is a huge distraction.

'I was attracted to her beyond belief. There wasn't a time I glanced over at her working that her red lips or blue eyes didn't make me think things I had no place thinking.'

Dex is not alone in his attraction though, Jamie is feeling it too. These two dance around each other, pushing buttons, riling each other up every opportunity they get and to be fair, Dex is very up front about his attraction to her. They know they shouldn’t do it but they just can’t fight it anymore even if crossing that line might just bring more complications to their working relationship.

This was a fantastic read from Emma Hart.

I am so in love with this book. Right from the very start it had me hooked. The attitude and smart ass comments between Jamie and Dex from their first meeting were hilarious, and the fact that they start off enemies was awesome because thats a favourite trope of mine.

Jamies inner dialogue is hilarious, she is extremely sassy – “Since opinions were usually closer to assholes than anything else, I didn’t care what he thought”.

I was literally laughing out loud constantly at this book, it’s that funny. I sped through this and I really loved both main characters. The way they connect with each other and the way they work off each other with their hilarious arguments and banter is just awesome.

Jamie is a really strong female character, and I really connect with the fact that she does whats considered a mans job. She’s so determined to do what she loves and she doesn’t apologise for it. I totally loved her as the heroine in this.

Throw in Jamie’s meddling Mum, cool Dad, and then Dex’s meddling Granddad, Great Aunt and Sister, oh and don’t forget his adorable niece, and this adds up to some hilarious secondary characters, all of which I really liked.

I would love for Dex’s sister to get her own book too by the way. Please and thank you Emma. 😉

I highly recommend this book, I couldn’t stop laughing throughout, it was well written and the storyline flows really well.

High five Emma Hart, high five. Can’t wait for more from you!

My latest Emma Hart fix. I’ve had Miss Mechanic on my kindle for a while.

Jamie and her dad used to own a garage but unfortunately had to give it up. Now the new owner needs a hand and Jamie needs a job.

This has a quick pace storyline, witty dialogue and a whole lot of hot chemistry.

Genre: Enemies to Lovers Romance

Emma Hart always writes enjoyable romances. She brings readers realistic and likable characters, an entertaining plot, and books that are easy to read in one sitting. Miss Mechanic is all of this and more. It's fun, sassy, angsty, and satisfying. It's the perfect enemies to lovers romance that will make you laugh out loud at the ridiculousness of it all and even touches upon serious issues like women in the workplace. I really loved this one and I think many readers will agree and gobble it up.

THE STORY

Jamie is tired of getting looked over for jobs because she is a woman. All she wants to do is fix cars- her one true love in life- and live a normal existence. But one too many men have turned her down for the job as a mechanic, so she makes it her mission to get back in the garage that her family formally owned. How does she do this? She persuades the new owner Dex with her bubbly (sarcastic) personality (attitude) and makes it so that he can't say no...

Dex isn't sure what to think of the feisty chick with her luscious red lips and cute little shorts. She says she a qualified mechanic, but how can someone who looks that good be telling the truth? Only one way to find out... (forcefully) Give her a 90 day "temporary position" to see whether she's all talk or all work. Too bad he is super attracted to her as well. But her damn attitude is going to drive him insane...

And thus we embark on the comedic trip with Jamie and Dex as they try to come to terms with their feelings (even though they DESPISE one another) and whether she is perfect for the job or not...

CONCLUSION

Readers, you will LAUGH. You will enjoy the hell out of this one! And you will LOVE the crazy banter and fights that happen between these two. There was nothing that I didn't like about this crazy story and I think everyone will agree. Emma Hart did it again and brought us an amazing and fun filled romance that leaves readers SWOONING and LAUGHING all the way through. Grab your copy. You won't regret it!

"Miss Mechanic" was a pretty enjoyable reading!

I really liked this one.

Dexter and Jamie were so funny and their bickering were the best foreplay.

This book was a nice and easy reading with witty and hot moments. There were times were the characters acted a little immature but it didn't bother me too much. I really liked that both Dexter and Jamie had something to say to each other and didn't get shy or backed down from a challenge.

P.S. Obviously Jamie belonged under, and most definitely over the hood with Dexter above her!!!

i was about to give this book 4 stars. i love jamie. she is kick ass. she is independent, takes no shit from anyone, strong willed, and have temper.

dexter is a typical alpha male. but he at the end bows to jamie. these sexy banter, flirting, push and pull and character development really deserves 4 stars.

but i cringe on some of the sexism on some of the conversation. so i end up 3 stars.

Miss Mechanic by Emma Hart is my second book by Hart that I’ve read. What I enjoy and what had me picking up this book is that she puts women in a role that is consider a man’s job. I like seeing the reversal and having women working in jobs that aren’t normal.

Now, I’ve got mixed feelings on Miss Mechanic. It’s got sexism, sexual harassment, and dubious consent, but it’s also got some things I enjoyed and so, I feel conflicted.

Jamie and Dex don’t hit it off. They hate each other for no other reason then gender. He doesn’t think a women can do a man’s job and so, they are at each other’s throats through the whole book. They snipe. They bicker. They verbally spare. It’s like for-play for them. Dex constantly says sexually explicit things to Jamie or demean her gender, but Jamie does the same and gives as good as she gets.

I’ll say I liked that Jamie gave back, but I’m also conflicted on what came out of Dex’s mouth when these two did spare. I like that Jamie’s a mechanic and that she has a passion for it. She won’t let anyone crush this passion and drive to be the best. As for Dex he’s a hot mechanic, but he’s a sexist.

I want to also mention their first sex scene: When they do get together the sex is safe sex. I do need to state that I think the author forgot that they used a condom. Why, I say this is; because at the end of the scene Jamie mentions she needs to clean up, but what does she need to clean, unless the condom broke. This whole scene was either a set up for a surprise later or the author forgot. After finishing the book I think Hart forgot. Though I was not thrilled about where they had sex, how it came about, and the end of the scene.

Miss Mechanic left me feeling conflicted. With what’s going on with sexual harassment in the world, this book may not be right.

And this is why I love all things Emma Hart. As always, she grabbed me from start to finish. From Ms. Fix Up to Ms. Mechanic, everybody's gonna love this series so much. Emma Hart raised the girl power with this new series to the nth power and I don't need to say much because this book is EVERYTHING you needed and more. Emma is brilliant with her words and I will be forever in awe of her.

I have said this over and over that Emma is my go to author. I just love her penchant for things light hearted and feels good story. When I needed something to brighten my day, she's the "it" author for me. And, Ms, Mechanic is no different. I love it so much that I finished it in no time. I love the banters and the bickering because it was writtenly on point and was not too much or over the top. I couln't help the smile painted in my face. I was smiling when I started reading the book and I was smiling still when I finished it. I just love savouring every minute I had with Dex and Jamie because aside from their sizzling chemistry, each has uniqueness on their own, and I love how they're portrayed.

As I said, I don't need to say much about the book aside from I'm afraid I might say too much that will end up spoiling you. I need you to read and breathe this book. I tell you this, you do not need to read an emotional rollercoaster book to be moved or touched, or to have your life changed. Emma Hart's new series, this new installment
- Miss Mechanic is the proof of that. It wasn't just an entertaining, enjoyable and sizzling read, it was empowering!

Thank you Sharon J for recommending this book to me. This was an incredible read. The book was sassy, funny, and sexy. I loved every moment of it. I love how Emma Hart writes her rom-coms. The characters were fantastic. Dex is jerk that you cannot help but love. He is sexy, and filthy. However, the true reason I love this book is Jamie, the heroine of the story. She is fantastic. She is one of my favourite heroines of all time. I love the way she acts. I recommend this book to all fans of rom-coms. I love Emma Hart, and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. Overall, an amazing read.

Nothing really happened besides Dex and Jamie bickering in a garage while doing oil changes for about 70% of the book and the sexy parts weren’t that sexy if you ask me.

Not the worst book I’ve read, just a bit boring sometimes.

4 TACO CROWNS

Miss Mechanic is full of all the hate/love shenanigans one could want. From the very beginning, their dislike for one another creates the chemistry between Jamie and Dex until it evolves into much more, making their journey entertaining and fun.

Dex is a chauvinist, a complete pig when it comes to female mechanics. Surprisngly, though, I still really like him. His banter with Jamie and seeing him interact with his family makes him much more enjoyable. He also changes and evolves as he gets to know Jamie better and work with her in the garage. His ability to change and grow throughout the story makes his initial behavior forgivable and makes him a hero to swoon over.

Jamie is a spitfire. From the very moment readers meet her, she verbally spars with everyone, particularly Dex. She is the epitome of an independent and strong woman, and I enjoyed seeing her character interact with the other characters. Even though she is her own woman, readers also get to see this vulnerable and awkward side to her character, making her relatable. Unlike Dex, though, she doesn’t go through a significant change over the course of the novel.

This story centers around the antagonism and hatred between the hero and heroine. It is what gets them to interact in a daily basis, it becomes the foundation for their chemistry, and it is the impetus that pushes them into more than disdain for one another. And while the chemistry between them is AMAZING and hate banter is entertaining, there is a lack of significant conflict. While this didn’t necessarily detract from the enjoyment of the story, there was no obstacle or significant issue to overcome.

If you are looking for a light and fun romantics hate to love comedy, Miss Mechanic is perfect for you. It is low angst and high entertainment.

Miss Mechanic by Emma Hart is easily in my TOP 3 fave books Emma has ever written! I absolutely LOVED IT! Dex has my heart right now! He was pure male perfection! Gah!

Emma writes the best rom-coms. And just lately she's included the gender-flip that is just sheer brilliance. I can't even begin to tell you how much I've come to love this trope and Emma nails it every time. Miss Mechanic was so funny, so sassy and so sexy. I'm 100% addicted to it and now experiencing the BIGGEST rush!

Dex and Jamie are EXPLOSIVE. A raging inferno of tension and fire and insane connection. From the start these two burn hotter than a burning flame and it only increases as the book goes on. I got major tingles and butterflies from some of their encounters! I just loved them so much.

Dex is an a**hole but he's a totally loveable a**hole. He's filthy and sexy. You can't help but fall for him just as much as you want to slap him. As always Emma's heroine, Jamie, is incredible. She's one of my fave heroines Emma has written!

Everything about Miss Mechanic worked so well. The trope, the gender flip, the intensity and heat and the humour all complimented each other and equalled one hell of a story!

I am so glad I decided to listen to my bestie and go for this book because OOH WEE are Dexter and Jamie HOT!

Nothing beats the explosive chemistry between workplace enemies. Jamie's family lost their beloved garage and its now run by Dexter Ryne. Not only is he old-fashioned in his non-belief on female mechanics but he doesn't believe Jamie can prove him wrong. When the two go head to head on who's the better mechanic they realize there's more at stake than just their jobs.

Hart has a refreshing adorable take on office rivalry romance. Even though Dex can be a jerk at times there are a lot of moments where he was irresistible. Whether it was dealing with his adorable niece or taking care of a drunkenly awkward Jamie, he's got sweetheart on lock. Jamie is a take no prisoners female; she's confident and sassy and she's damn good at what she does in a male dominated field. Her spitfire wit towards Dexter had me cracking up!

A fun and flirty that i read in one sitting, Miss Mechanic is definitely sexy and full of emotion. I found myself rooting for Jamie to kick Dex's butt and then hoping the two would just fall for each other faster. Hart's definitely found a new one-click fan here!

When the opportunity arises for Mechanic, Jamie Bell to work for her family's previously owned mechanic shop, she does not expect new owner Dex Ryne to completely blow up her life (and her temper!!) This book was absolutely fantastic! I had a smile frome ear to ear while reading this book as it was full of sass, swoons and banter. Gahh it was everything. I completely fell for Jamie and Dex from the getgo. There is something about enemies to lovers/an old fashioned sexual tension filled rivalry that does it for me. I could not get enough!

Emma Hart's novels are synonymous with feel good romance to me. Whatever genre she writes she will completely win me over. That is exactly what we received with Miss Mechanic. When Jamie, a female mechanic is fed up with the prejudice that females within her industry face, she decides to make a wager with Dexter Ryne: she must prove her worth as a mechanic or otherwise she is his garage's new receptionist. Easy peasy right? Not exactly. Especially when their heated exchanges and sexual chemistry explode into pure fireworks!!

Gah I really loved this book! Jamie Bell is one of my favorite heroines from this author as she was so quick on the sass. She was sexy and strong and everything you love in a heroine. She gave as good as she got and always had a stinging retort. I loved how she and Dex went toe to toe and her and their chemistry was so fiery you could feel it right off the pages. All in all this was another fantastic novel and I can't wait for the next one by this author! Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula

Unreadable by any standard. Chock-full of mistakes that make you cry for an editor, with an unbelievable setting and two child MCs.
It's 0.99$. I would still not recommend it.

Setting: Would you wear a coverall to a job interview? No? Well she does in a sense. She's dressed in a full dress regalia with high heels for a job interview as a mechanic...
Lots is made of that she is the previous owner's daughter, but without any reason. So?
The way they interact is junior high, totally unacceptable in any adult contest, less so in a work environment.

MC:
She's rude, aggressive, churlish. She doesn't sound to me assertive and self confident, but simply, supremely stupid.
He's YA. In all his relationships with his family he sounds 13.
This isn't my idea of funny banter..

By chapter 10 when there is that stupid stupid stupid scene with hig grandfather and a dinner date I gave up before launching my kindle against the wall.

Emma Hart takes sexual tension and banter to the extreme in Miss Mechanic. If you're a fan of enemies-to-lovers, you'll be all over this one.

Dex and Jamie were two of the most stubborn characters I've ever read. They alternated between infuriating and on fire throughout the story. One minute I was wanting to shake someone and the next, I was swooning. Their relationship was all over the place and it had me tearing through the pages to see how everything would turn out.

Hart delivers a funny, sexy, and frustrating read. I'm enjoying this series and look forward to what's to come.

And let me tell you, due to Dex and Jamie’s stubborn personalities, unfiltered mouths, and hot tempers, this fight is either going to end with Jamie out of a job and Dex in the hospital in order to get a screwdriver out of a place it shouldn’t be or they’ll rip each other’s clothes off and hate fuck one another until they realize that they actually are more alike than they think and rev one another’s motors like no one else can!

I’m a book whore when it comes to stories like Miss Mechanic. I love strong and confident heroines who make it their mission to prove gender stereotypes wrong, and Jamie Bell is the perfect woman to set Dex straight when it comes to her ability to prove how skillful a mechanic she is and make him eat his sexiest words.

The fact that Dex has met his match when it comes to his snarky firecracker employee and they get under each other’s skin so easily actually proves how compatible they are and how much they feed off one another’s arrogance in ways that allow them to spar as well as flirt in both aggravating and seductive ways is what made all of the sexual tension and escalated fights worth the moment when Dex and Jamie finally get their shit together and realize all of their fighting was just one long game of foreplay!

I can’t write about Dex and Jamie’s story without mentioning their friends/family. The secondary characters in Miss Mechanic were amazing. Between Dex’s sister, grandfather, great aunt, and niece as well as Jamie’s crazy best-friend, Haley, Dex and Jamie’s privacy as well as their true feelings for one another were never going to remain hidden because those closest to them know them perhaps better than they know themselves and don’t hesitate to call Dex and Jamie on their bs as well as point out flaws in Dex and Jamie’s plan to remain ‘fake’ enemies and prove each other wrong.

Emma Hart definitely knows how to do romantic comedies with the perfect amount of sass, crudeness, and crazy antics, and I hope she continues to create extraordinary characters and entertaining, slightly inappropriate stories that allow readers to laugh, swoon, and swear because that’s what she gives us each and every time we crack open one of her books!
