Historian Victor Daniels never planned to devote his life to battling evil spirits, or tracking down a collection of cursed antiques unleashed by ruthless occultist Stefan Korzh. But after months of clashing with paranormal threats, he’s developed a reputation as an investigator of the strange and bizarre. So when a rash of mysterious deaths strikes Victor’s home state, an old friend reaches out to him for help.
As Victor investigates the chilling mystery, he is shocked to discover that the victims all died by drowning…within the safety of their own homes. Another cursed antique has been unearthed, a ticket for a steamer ship that sank over a century ago. The worn scrap of paper is haunted by the vengeful ghost of a passenger, and it must gather the souls of the living to complete its final voyage.
Before Victor can put a stop to the murderous spirit’s killing spree, Stefan takes their blood feud to the next level, when he captures Victor’s adopted son. Following the madman’s trail to his sleepy hometown, deep in the Pennsylvania woods, Victor must confront his nemesis face to face.
The final clash between good and evil has begun, and only one man can emerge victorious…
Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
I keep thinking this series could not possibly get scarier and then Ron Ripley proves me wrong. In this 8th installment of the Haunted Collection Series, we meet a pint-sized ghost of a child who drowned on a sinking ship. He cannot move on to the next world until he completes the cruise that was interrupted by the sinking and he cannot do that until he "creates" a new group of passengers to sail with him. Of course, what better way to get ghost ship passengers than to drown them into existence? Meanwhile, Victor and his son have become well known as paranormal investigators and are called upon to solve the drowning deaths. At the same time, Stefan is plotting to capture Victor's son to lure him to what he hopes will be his death. I am looking forward to the endgame in this saga with both anticipation and sorrow. Anticipation because I know the finale will be well worth the wait and sorrow because it will mean the end of what has been an exceptional series.
This is book 8 in the haunting chilling ghost series. All his books can be stand alone but you will want to read them in order and you won't be disappointed. Victor tells Tom to be careful of Bontoc who Tom feels he can trust. The characters continue to be interesting and believable, and are continued from previous books. Stephan continues to sell the evil objects. Stefan is now getting weaker. Stefan is starting to get some back from all the evil he has caused, now wearing an eyepatch where he has lost his eye. You have the ghosts appearing to win with so many deaths you will be on the edge of your seat. Victor and Tom are being called upon as the paranormal investigators. So many mini stories in a book it will keep you wanting more. Thom Bowers does an awesome job with the narration. You won't want to miss this book or this book series.
What happens when the ghost of a young boy is determined to finish the ride on a downed boat? He begins killing people to fill the passenger list - and he is determined to take as many with him as he can. Victor is searching for where the ghost may be hidden, and the item that he is attached to, but without knowing what the item is, the search seems daunting.
I was given an ARC copy by the writer. I do not know him and am unbiased. This was by far my favorite in the Collecting Death series. Tom and his father Victor decide it's time to pursue Stephen. Of course all the ghosts come out to stop them but one ghost in particular likes to drown people in all sorts of nasty ways. A real good read.
I truly enjoy these books and the way this author writes. You get caught up in the stories and know the characters well. I am always on edge with these stories because you never know what the ghosts are going to do. I have read all Mr. Ripleys books and love them all.
Another excellent book in the Haunted Collection series and the adventures of Victor and Tom!! I'm saddened by knowing that this series must come to an end, but hoping for several more books before that happens!! Love your books, Ron, and those of the other Scare Street authors!!
I didn't like this book as much as the previous in this series. I absolutely hated the main antagonist. And I get that we are supposed to have them they're evil ghosts but this one was just bad. Poorly executed and just blah.
This book was the best by far focusing mainly on one ghost. One that died by drowning. One that had to recreate the other passengers to be able to finish the trip he sought for so long. In the mix stefan is still at large. This series just keeps getting better 😊
Very intense and the ending was heartbreaking. Each book gets better and better. Based on the Bonus Chapters I am eager to see what is in store next for Victor, Tom, Ariana, and Stefan.
Korzh has released another haunted item out into the world, this time a child who drowned on an ill fated voyage, he now drowns people and collects their souls so he can create the other passengers that were on the boat and they can sail with him like they were meant to. Victor has his hands more than full with this ghost because how can you stop someone who can drown people in their own homes? While Victor has his sights set on the haunted ticket, Korzh kidnaps Tom and Victor will have to hunt him down before it's too late.
I always find horror stories extremely scary when it has kids in it!! There's just something about the innocence of kids being twisted and creating something capable of evil that chills my bones!! Here we have a child that is attached to his ticket and he is intent on gathering up souls so he can go on the voyage again. It sent chills down my spine when I was reading it. <--- and that is why I love this authors work. He can tell a creepy story which stays with you.
I also love how he writes his characters. You can't help but feel for them all.... yes even Korzh!! So much happens in this book that I'm both terrified and extremely excited to read the last one. My heart broke for Ariana, for Tom and even for Victor. I want to say so much but I won't because it will spoil things. There is a reckoning coming and I can not wait!!
Thom Bowers really gives his all and brings the story to life. He has become a great narrator and I look forward to seeing more from him.
I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
