About the Author - written from the point-of-view of his 15-year old daughter (that's me! :)
Some say that M. Sasinowski writes until 4 am... fueled by a single cup of decaf coffee. Others say this Polish-born American hyper-nerd absorbs energy from late-night TV space shows. No matter the truth... he's my dad. He will never be cool.
He loves archaeology, Star Wars/Trek, martial arts (especially women who kick butt), and impromptu father/daughter (that's me! :) science debates or music jam-sessions. He's kind of smart, I suppose (he has a physics PhD, and an MD, or whatever) and likes to build computers for fun.
His teenage daughter (that's me! :) is occasionally a handful to deal with and also served as the inspiration for the main character in his debut young adult novel Heir of Ra.
You may recognize him from his glorious hair or his tendency to do the "vacuum cleaner" dance to embarrass his daughter (that's me... :(.
If you ever see this man, approach with care and greet him in a language he understands, like in Klingon or, better yet, in Wookie.
An excavation under the Sphinx unleashes an ancient disease that leaves Alyssa's father fighting for his life. Alyssa needs to uncover the truth about the chamber beneath the Sphinx if she wants to find a cure. But someone’s trying very hard to stop her.
The story moves at a really fast pace with plenty of action scenes, making it feel at times like you’re reading a blockbuster movie in the style of The Mummy. It’s a well written young adult mystery thriller with fantasy and science fiction elements that are perfectly balanced throughout the story.
The book "Heir of Ra (Blood of Ra # 1)" by M. Sasinowski is an entertaining science fiction YA adventure novel that postulates an interesting premise about the existence of the Hall of Records under the Sphinx in Egypt. Although this is a YA novel I must admit that the author sets up interesting theories about our hidden history of mankind. The story is intriguing and full of action, the characters are solidly elaborated, and I am convinced that younger and adult readers will like it. The story takes us into a world of archeology, secret societies, and hidden secrets that archaeologists discover with each new day. Some secrets are hidden from the public, and this book, although as a fiction, examines such one of the secrets. Now a little about the plot of the story: Alyssa’s father is a top archaeologist and she has been living with him every day since her mother’s death, helping him with his research. Alyssa was in South America at one of the archeological sites when she received her father’s message that he had received permission from the Egyptian government to excavate beneath the Sphinx. After all these years she has spent on archeological research with her father she knows very well that it is the icing on the cake and the culmination of his research on finding the Hall of Records. Her father tells her that they have only 24 hours after the excavation and that she cannot manage to take part in the research because she is thousands of kilometers away from Egypt. Had Alyssa not been as stubborn as she might be, this would have prevented her from reaching her father before the excavations began, but she wants to be with her father at all costs when the excavations begin. What she doesn't know is that the wheels of fate have been set in motion and that she will soon find herself in imminent danger of death. Players from the shadows will appear on stage, and Alyssa will be drawn into a tangle of dangerous events. I would recommend the book to fans of YA science fiction, ancient mythology, and action-adventure.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
I can’t say I’ve read this in one sitting because it’s almost physically impossible for me, a night reader, to stay up all night, but this one came pretty close! I feel like I devoured the book, making Heir of Ra one of my fastest reads of the year, because the moment I got into bed to read, I couldn’t put it down. The story was fast paced and interesting since page one, it had a very likeable main character, the mystery addicting, the action well written, many “WHO DO I TRUST?” moments… need I say more?
Heir of Ra is a perfect blend of Fantasy and Sci-Fi adventure. I haven’t read a book like it before, but if you’re a fan of Archeological Thriller films such as Indiana Jones, Tomb Rider or National Treasure (my personal favorite), then it’s perfect! And if you’ve never seen those movies, well, you’d enjoy this book either way because it’s a very addicting and fast read.
One of the things I liked best in this book was the relationship between our protagonist, Alyssa, and her father, Kade. Despite the complicated history, it’s obvious there’s a lot of love between the two. Alyssa would do anything for her father and she proves it time and again throughout the book. What made me appreciate it even more was the fact that I’ve been contacted for this review by the author’s daughter, Sarah, who not only wrote a very fun and unique About the Author page at the end of the book, but was also the inspiration for Alyssa’s character. So you see, it was the kind of father /daughter relationship that felt real because it transcends the page and I am a sucker for good family bonds!
Another relationship I liked in this book was the one between Alyssa and Paul. The two are a classic in stories like this: two strangers who meet by chance and are suddenly thrust into a life and death situation that forces them to come closer. Obviously Le Me expects a romance to bloom out of it, and it sort of does, but unfortunately life isn’t easy and we don’t always get the things that we want. There’s going to be a lot more grinding for these two before they’ll actually (hopefully) get to kiss!
Also—and if you know me this should come as no surprise—I loved the flashback sequences with Horus! There weren’t many, but it says a lot about the quality of the writing when you feel so much for a character and his struggles in such a short span of pages. “I shall know no fear” just became my mantra.
The first thing I did when I finished the book last night was go to the official website, heirofra.com, and sign up to the mailing list so I can be immediately notified about the sequel because I. MUST. KNOW! The finale was set up in a way that left one satisfied with the ending but at the same time there are questions that must be answered. Definitely a series to keep an eye out and a very solid debut! I give it 5 stars, without a hint of a doubt.
Many thanks to Mr Sasinowski for providing me with an E-ARC of this book to review. All opinions are my own.
Alyssa and her father have been seeking the lost Hall of Records, under the Sphinx in Egypt for years. Finally her father is given permission to enter the tunnels for an archeological dig for one day. Alyssa is half a world away and can't make it in time, but something goes wrong inside the tunnels. Her father collapses and is taken to hospital with a baffling, mutating disease. After learning that the World Health Organisation has confiscated everything from the site, Alyssa knows she needs to somehow find out what happened to her father, and how to help him. With the assistance of Paul, who she meets while trying to gain access to the WHO, they try to uncover the secrets from her father's dig. When they come across an artefact that seems impossible for this time, but is likely thousands of years old, they find themselves on the run from a group of people determined to claim it from them.
This book was gripping from the very first page. Fast paced action intertwined with Egyptian mythology and twists I didn't see coming. Alyssa and Paul were likeable characters and I found myself holding my breath on their behalf throughout the story. We were treated to 'flashbacks' of a story involving the Egyptian gods and parts of history - real, imagined and theorised - that I really enjoyed, even though my knowledge of that history is sketchy. I honestly couldn't put this book down, it was a wild ride.
I didn’t really know what to expect going into this book, but I found that I was not disappointed!
When Alyssa’s father contracts an ancient disease on an excavation of the Hall of Records, Alyssa races to find a cure and discovers an artifact that could change everything. With the help of Oxford student Paul, Alyssa must escape from people who want the artifact for their own gain and unravel the secrets the artifact holds before it’s too late.
I really liked the characters that were in this book. Alyssa, our main character, had followed and been involved with her father’s excursions all her life. Alyssa was such a great character! She was likeable and smart whilst being brave and fierce. She was a very enjoyable character to read about! I also really liked Paul, he was really sweet and a perfect gentlemen. All the characters in this book were very interesting to read about and I really enjoyed them.
We had some really nice relationships in this book. The relationship between Alyssa and Kade was very enjoyable to read about. We can clearly see that this father and daughter duo have a complicated history but there was a lot of obvious love between the two. The devotion Alyssa has for her father was admirable and lovely to see. I really liked the relationship between Alyssa and Paul as well. The way these two came together as complete strangers but developed this really nice friendship (and possibly more) was so enjoyable.
I loved the mythology aspect of this book. It was really interesting and intriguing. I felt that the Horus flashbacks were a really nice addition and really helped propel the story forward. This book was very gripping and fast paced, I didn’t quite know what to expect but this book did not disappoint! I felt that this storyline was very original and had some really great plot twists that just keep the reader guessing!
Overall, this was a very solid debut and a great series opener. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future!
Thank you to M. Sasinowski and his daughter for sending me this book for review.
Heir of Ra is a young adult action and adventure/historical fantasy novel written by Maciek Sasinowski. Alyssa was enjoying a moderately challenging climb in Peru and was at 358 meters of elevation when she got the call she had been waiting for. Her dad’s appeal to the Egyptian Council of Antiquities had finally, and surprisingly, been granted. Alyssa immediately began figuring out how she could leave the Peruvian dig site and most efficiently get to Egypt when her dad blindsided her with the news that they were only giving him one day to search the site. He knew it was disappointing, but he wanted Alyssa to stay in Peru and continue supervising the site there. But he failed to reckon with the determination of his sixteen-year-old daughter. Even being high up on a cliff face wouldn’t deter her from getting to Egypt and going in with him.
Maciek Sasinowski’s historical fantasy/science fiction novel for young adults, Heir of Ra, is a fast-paced and enthralling book that incorporates elements of time travel as Alyssa fights to unravel the mystery of the illness that has left her father at death’s door. Sasinowski’s plot is a marvelous one that recreates Egyptian mythology and refashions it in a thought-provoking and ingenious manner. I loved the high-tech elements of this story, and found the characters to be credible and well-defined, particularly Alyssa, who is a resourceful, strong and independent young woman. This well-written and engaging story is geared toward a young adult audience, but anyone who enjoys archaeological quest novels will have a grand time reading it as well. Heir of Ra is most highly recommended.
To say I loved this book would be a understatement, from the moment I started reading it I was completely captivated. I couldn't turn the pages quick enough. It was fast paced and it kept me completely invested. I was on the edge of my seat anticipating what would happen next. It was filled with so much action, adventure, and, Egyptian mythology. The story line was absolutely incredible, it makes you wonder, what if?
Alyssa, the main character, had everything I'm always looking for in a character. She was brave, fierce, smart, and compassionate. Her commitment to finding a cure for her father, Kade, was heart warming. I really enjoyed the relationship between Alyssa and Paul, they were thrust into a dangerous adventure together and faced it head on. Paul, was the ultimate gentleman and I adored him! There were multiple points of views throughout the book and I felt that they were all essential to the plot.
The author is such an amazing story teller he had me believing everything I was reading. He definitely did extensive research to write such a masterful story. Indiana Jones Fans will definitely appreciate this read. Heir of Ra, is easily one of my favorite reads of the year.
Heir of Ra is fast paced, action packed, and wildly entertaining! For lovers of the original Tomb Raider games, the Stargate movie, and Assassin’s Creed, you will devour this one! It is an edge of your seat, one sitting kind of read that is sure to impress!
Oh…my…god…I LOVED this book! This was easily one of my top 5 reads this year so far! I could not put it down, and I finished it in one sitting! It was adventurous, intriguing, and full of action and humor. It was an intense thrill ride that had me shocked at every twist and turn! It easily differentiated itself from other YA books by boasting the importance of family, respect for your elders, and education!
Sasinowski really impressed me with this debut novel! The writing was outstanding. There was never a dull moment and I could clearly see the story unfolding in my mind as I read. I truly felt like this would have made an amazing movie! There were so many details and layers to the story, and it all just fell in to place.
And, our main character, Alyssa, man was she kick ass!! I loved that even though she had a strained relationship with her father she still managed to show how much she loved him and she fought so hard to come to his rescue! She was brave and very intelligent, and I loved her snarky attitude! I loved that she never gave up and that she wasn’t a typical YA teen girl, caught up in hormones and romance.
I loved the different aspects of the story. Most of the time multiple POV’s just don’t work because they are too hard to keep track of, but I never felt lost or felt like I couldn’t figure out who’s POV I was following at any time. I truly enjoyed getting the different pieces of the story and getting to know all the different characters and their motives and histories. All these different pieces kept me on my toes and made the reveal at the end that much more shocking. And, the scenes with Horus, oh my word were those awesome!
Heir of Ra was intriguing and exhilarating. I couldn’t read it fast enough. It was very unique, but also reminded me a little of The Mummy and Indiana Jones, in a good way. Alyssa, though a star in her own right, resembled Lara Croft a little for me, which is why I fell in love with her! This book was incredible, and not only can I not wait for the sequel, but I am already dying to re-read it!
Thank you to the author's daughter for providing me with this free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!
What a great new take on the Egyptian gods and Atlantis. Give this book a try, it had me from the first chapter and I cannot wait for the next installation.
Alyssa's father has been given the chance of a lifetime, a chance he's been waiting for forever...a chance to enter the alleged Hall of Records beneath the Sphinx in Egypt. Upon gaining entrance to the excavation a deadly virus sends Kade and his team to quarantine. Alyssa is bent on trying to find a cure for her father when she finds an ancient crystal that holds the memories of a god and just might hold they key to saving her father...that is if the people now hunting her down don't get to them first.
Non stop action, fast paced, attention grabbing this book was most definitely all of that but it was also full of science, mystery and Ancient Civilizations. I loved this book and it was over before I knew it. Here I am days later still thinking about it. If you like Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, National Treasure, The Da Vinci Code, or The Mummy movies or if you, like me are a big fan of Ancient Egypt and Mythology you will enjoy this book immensely. The blend of Science Fiction and Fantasy is a sure winner here. I absolutely loved Alyssa's character...her determination, will power, and Intellect made her a great young female character that other young girls can look up to.
The Hall of Records is a myth. A library under the famous Sphinx in Egypt isn't possible. Or is it? When a team of scientist go to investigate, they meet untimely deaths. An ancient artifact, a deadly virus, mythical gods, and ruthless killers are all part of the fast-paced, action-filled story that follows.
Heir of Ra is well-written with suspense, vivid descriptions, action, plot twists, and realistic characters. It's easy to imagine it as a movie. I read and review a lot of books, and this one really stands out. Highly recommended for those who enjoy science fiction, fantasy, and adventure thrillers.
Fantastic read. It will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way. Every time i thought I knew what was coming next the story would take a twist.I loved it and could not put it down.

SPOILERS BELOW PEEPS!
Heir of Ra is one of those books that you can't put down after you start it. Well, it was for me. It's fast paced and definitely holds your attention. Okay, again.. this could just be me.
In this wonderful book, you will meet Alyssa. She was definitely an interesting character and I wanted to see how her relationship with her dad, Kade, was going to turn into. Things were very complicated between the two, which you can see in the beginning of this book. Now this is the complete opposite of my relationship with my Dad, we are besties who drink wine together. Throughout the book though, you can definitely tell that these two love each other will all they've got and it shows. This whole father-daughter relationship just put an epic smile on my face.
Besides the family aspect of this book, there's some romance. Alyssa and Paul were cute and adorable. They are two people who were kind of put in each other's path. These two worked really well together in any situation that was thrown at them. However, their romance was just like a teasing hint. It's there and you can see it.. but you don't feel it yet. I want more in the next book - a lot more!
Oh, and please no love triangle!
Besides all of that, I hate cliffhangers. I despise them so much because then it's that terrible waiting game you have to play because the next book isn't freaking available. I NEED THE NEXT ONE GUYS!
As an archaeologist who has always dreamed of permission from the Ministry of Antiquities to work on a dig in Egypt, this book seemed like it was written especially for me. Once I picked it up, I read it in just a few sittings as it was a very fast-paced, easy read.
It had a lot of elements of some other popular books, like the Da Vinci Code and the Percy Jackson series, but it's managed to carve out its own niche within the YA mythology genre. Our heroine Alyssa is a scrappy, independent young woman with some pretty intense determination. She was a little bit hard to like at times, but why she was the way she was became a bit more clear toward the end of the book and she became a lot more sympathetic. I’m definitely Team Alyssa now and can see her becoming a major figure in the YA genre.
Despite this book being about mythology and having a lot of magical elements to it, I found those aspects to be the most believable parts of Heir of Ra. It being YA, I’ve given it a lot of leeway in terms of plausibility, but sometimes it just seemed the way she, as a teenager, was able to get around in the world was a bit outlandish even for an action-packed YA story. Still, though, it was a lot of fun to read and by the last third of it, it felt like it had really found its stride and I couldn’t put it down. I’m excited to see what comes next. And I hope we get more Clay next time!
As a side note, I loved how obviously the Minister of Antiquities in the book was Zahi Hawass. In my field he's quite well known and I had a couple chuckles to myself about the way he carried himself. Thanks for that, M. Sasinowski!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this delightful book. I can’t wait to see where Alyssa goes next.
I really enjoyed this book it was really interesting it was very fast paced and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. I really liked the characters especially Alyssa and Paul they were really interesting to read about. I really liked the story it was so well written I really liked the mythological aspects of it as well as the really good action packed story it was. So overall I liked this book and will continue the series when there is more out to read. -Got this book from Netgalley for an honest review-
This story is the first book in an exciting YA series called Blood of Ra. I loved it!
Alyssa Morgan is a wonderful character. I love her take no prisoners attitude, but she also can be a little reckless. She is a mature seventeen-year-old, but she also is incredibly impulsive at times. She works with her archaeologist father and professor, Kade Morgan. When her father becomes ill during an expedition to excavate the potential Hall of Records under the Sphinx in Cairo, Alyssa finds herself in a race to locate a cure and unravel the mystery surrounding the hidden chamber. Unfortunately, someone else is determined to stop her. Can she find a cure in time?
I love a good YA thriller/mystery, and this book has it in spades. I began to read it, and the action starts immediately and doesn't let you go until the last sentence. I love myths and legends, especially Egyptian folklore about their gods and goddesses, stories about Atlantis, and even alien origin theories, and this story has a fantastic mix of all these things. I have previously read a YA romance book that explored a similar topic, but the stories are entirely different. I have to say that I prefer this version. It appeals to my love of science fiction.
There are a few interesting characters that help bring this story to life. Paul Matthews is an intern at the World Health Organisation office in London, UK, though I am unsure as to his age - seventeen or eighteen I think. I am not sure why he decides to help Alyssa - besides his attraction to her, that is - but he appears to be a fantastic character too. Unfortunately, I feel that he needs a little more depth to him. Perhaps his character will grow as the series continues. I hope so. Another character who has potential is Clay Obono, who is Paul's friend. He's a sixteen-year-old student intern and computer geek also working at the World Health Organisation. He has a great sense of humour.
Heir of Ra is a pulse-pounding roller coaster ride from beginning to end. I reached the end, and my first thought was, "Gah! Now I have to wait (im)patiently for the next book as it can't end like that!". It is not exactly a cliff-hanger ending, but it's close. I sure hope the author is penning the sequel right now because if he isn't, I will probably start pulling out my hair in frustration. However, I will do my best to restrain myself as I know that it takes time to create great works of art and this series seems to have had a lot of research done for it.
M. Sasinowski is a debut author. As Heir of Ra is his first book, I think this author is one to watch. I love his fast-paced writing style. His characters come to life on the page, and I can picture the scenes in my mind's eye with ease. I also love the story flow, which runs smoothly from scene to scene. I am considering adding him to my favourite author's list.
Although there are no scenes of a sexual nature, there is some violence, so I feel that parental guidance may be required. I highly recommend this book (and series) to teens and adults alike who love YA science fiction, fantasy, action, adventure, thrillers, mysteries, mythology, and romance genres. - Lynn Worton

At the Giza Plateau during the year of 1913 in Egypt, Lord George Renley explored under The Great Sphinx enters a dark chamber with an unusual carving on a door. The legendary Hall of Records is believed to be located at this location. Is it legend or fact? Soon after, Hazim, his Arab guide, started bleeding from his nose. Lord Renley became dizzy and collapsed. The only reminder of the event was a notebook that a young Arab boy stole from the dying hands of Hazim. Alyssa is not your typical 17-year-old girl. She spends her time working with her father, Kade, who is an archaeologist. Her education is working as one of his assistants. Currently, she is left in charge of a dig in Peru while her father is on a dream assignment in Egypt, exploring a room under The Great Sphinx and is only allowed this privilege for 24-hours. Leaving Alyssa in charge in Peru, is a great responsibility for someone so young. She feels honored, but also deprived. Why can’t she be on this once-in-a lifetime dig with her father? Her father, Kade follows the steps of Lord George Renley in searching for The Hall of Records. Just like his predecessor, he also became ill. Nothing seems to help him, every day leads him one step closer to death. No one seems to be able to medically help him. Will he die? Alyssa decides to immediately travel to Egypt to be with her father. Unfortunately, that is not easy for a seventeen-year-old. Will she ever see her father alive? Heir of Ra is fast paced adventure of life with Alyssa. She does not have the safest career choice. Since her mother died a few years ago, her attachment to her father is precious, even though she calls him by his first name, Kade. The intended audience is young adults, especially girls; and anyone who enjoys a fast-paced story which winds up all the multiple strands of the story at the end. Heir of Ra is the first book in the Blood of Ra series featuring Alyssa. The author, M. Sasinowski is a Polish-born American who fashioned the main character, Alyssa after his own 15-year-old daughter. According to his daughter, he also possesses a PhD in physics as well as an MD. For fun, he enjoys building computer, music jam-sessions, science debates, martial arts, Star Wars and Star Trek as well as archaeology. Heir of Ra is a thrilling adventure for explorers of all ages.
By far one of the best books I have ever read. I didn't even realize it was part of the young adult genre. I can't wait to read more of this author's work.
Heir of Ra (Blood of Ra Book One) by M. Sasinowski
Alyssa (Ally) Sarah Morgan is on a dig in Peru when she gets an unexpected call from her father, the renown archaeologist Kade Morgan. Kade's lifelong passion -- finding the Hall of Records and proving the Sphinx was built by an advanced civilization -- is within his reach. The Egyptian authorities have granted his permission to dig underneath the Sphynx. As Alyssa tries to join her father, she enters an adventure that will test her will and ability -- at the same time trying to figure out who's a friend and who's a foe.
An accident at the dig leaves her father dying from an unknown disease and it is up to Alyssa to find a cure before it's too late. With the help of Paul Matthews -- an Oxford student -- Clay Obono -- a computer whiz, and a triangular artifact found at the dig, she must unravel deep secrets hidden within it and unveil the link between a mythical civilization and the birth of Egyptian mythology before time runs out.
I loved the storyline. Mr. Sasinowski is excellent at creating believable, live characters. Characters I cared about, and he does so beautifully building suspense. I felt this book could be a wonderful Hollywood movie. A page-turner, I highly recommended it!
This is an action packed adventure, like Indiana Jones on steroids! We have Egyptian mythology meets technology and DNA , which makes for a new twist on the adventure genre. I really enjoyed this book and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Alyssa must save her father from an unknown pathogen, which is slowly killing him. The equipment used during the excavation of a dig site in Egypt by her father and his crew may or may not have been tampered with. Ally must put together all the clues she and her new friend Paul can find to save her father and the rest of the world from a plague with no known cure. Of course there is an evil conspiracy afoot and Ally has no clue who is a friend or foe. I cannot wait for the sequel to find out the next mystery Ally must solve.
The book was amazing!! Each chapter was action-packed and I was unable to stop reading until I could complete the entire book!! Can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!! :) P.S. "Don't u fret" is one of my favourite dialogues now! ;)
Firstly, let me say that I love stories that have Egyptian archeology in them! I studied it in college and I'm very glad that the author did his homework. The main character, Alyssa,(which I also love since that's my daughter's name) is a spunky, educated, and likeable heroine. I read this entire book in 2 sittings because I couldn't put it down! It has action, mystery, a bit of romance, (but not too much) and excitement. If you like ancient mysteries with a touch of secret societies, then this book is for you! I highly recommend it and can't wait until a sequel comes out!!
I loved this book! It was everything I want when I read. Adventure, action, mystery. I felt as though I could actually “see” the movie in my mind’s eye as I was reading the book. Wait for it! I think that will happen.
I was provided with an electronic copy of this book for an honest review. I don't give many 5-star reviews, especially lately. I just haven't found any books that have held my interest and, like General Zaroff's lament of ennui in "The Most Dangerous Game," I was worried that reading had begun to bore me. Until now.
This book is filled with action and adventure. If you liked any of the Kane Chronicles books (or other similar reads) you will love this book. Magic, adventure, mystery, pyramids, and Egyptian mythology. What's not to love about that?
Alyssa's father is an archaeologist whose team finds and opens a forgotten tomb, but then everything seems to go wrong. Alyssa's father and his team are hospitalized with an unknown illness. And someone is coming after Alyssa. How can Alyssa help save her dad? And what about that tomb?
Fast-paced and exciting from start to finish, this book kept me reading into the late night hours. I really liked the mythology aspect and also the alternating points of view. I'm excited to read another book in this series (this says book one, so I'll keep my fingers crossed).
I love ancient Egypt and was very excited to put my hands on this book ! However I ended up DNFing it @25% approximately... The plot is really great and I might pick this book up someday to know the end but the writing really isn't for me. Heir of Ra is written as a movie (and I'm sure it would be a great one, I'd totally watch it) and the too frequent change of scene annoyed me, not to mention the weird "novio" scene in the first few chapters that was totally useless. Why does the nurse say only some words in spanish ? I guess it's supposed to make the book sound exotic but considering the setting, it is defeating the purpose. The last thing that unnerved me was the excessive description of little things irrelevant to the plot, such as the look of someone before an event or extensive explanations in dialog of something the other character should already know. I get that it is meant for the reader to understand technical situations, but then put it in the narration !
To be brief : Amazing plot, but written too much like a movie for my liking !
What a Romp. Heir of Ra was recommended to me. It’s not exactly my genre of fantasy fiction, but I thought why not? I’m glad I took a chance. The attention to detail is staggering. At times I had to stop and check to see if certain items, like the brand name of a high end watch, were real. Sure enough they were. A good book doesn’t need an author bio to tell you the author’s background. Mark Twain said “Write what you know”, and that’s what Sasinowski did. Physics, Medicine, a passion for History, and a father’s unconditional love for his daughter can all be found in this promising debut work. Well done. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
