Danielle Steel has been hailed as one of the world's bestselling authors, with almost a billion copies of her novels sold. Her many international bestsellers include All That Glitters, Royal, Daddy's Girls, The Wedding Dress, The Numbers Game, Moral Compass, Spy, and other highly acclaimed novels. She is also the author of His Bright Light, the story of her son Nick Traina's life and death; A Gift of Hope, a memoir of her work with the homeless; Expect a Miracle, a book of her favorite quotations for inspiration and comfort; Pure Joy, about the dogs she and her family have loved; and the children's books Pretty Minnie in Paris and Pretty Minnie in Hollywood.
Last year, I tried reading another book by Danielle Steel called "The toxic bachelor" and to be honest, I couldn't get past page 10. The thing is Steel puts too much effort into the background in order to be done with it the first 50 pages while as I read other books, the background was put by the author all along the book and not all at once in a certain place. That defect made me get bored from the first 30 pages in this book, too. The first 30 pages were dedicated entirely to the background without any exciting event. Too much details like giving too much credibility to her books. Sometimes the reader doesn't care that much about these details. They make him bored. And that's what happened with me. When reading the toxic bachelor last year, I was struck by the materialistic nature Steel possesses. And it was repeated in this book too. All throughout the book, I could visibly touch the materialistic and unrealistic side of everything she mentionned. Any reader of hers can easily classify her as those Beverly Hills rich people who have never in their lives dropped a sweat, or ever saw a poor man. Steel in this book have made her two main characters rich. People who possess infinite money under themselves. They would talk of million of dollars like chocolate bars, not more. Even if she made Peter, the successful scientist, a person who was raised on a ranch among a poor family, that made her piece of writing seem more and more materialistic and even biased. To her, the Beverly-hills lady, all people raised on a ranch would be poor. It didn't cross her mind that it might actually be a matter of choice... maybe a person liked doing that. The other part that showed her prejudices was when a fire was ignited at the Ritz (see!) and she made her characters blame the Arabic King who was staying at the hotel with his three wives and laid the possibility of a bomb. She even made them go running away from the hotel and into their car and made them never to be seen again. On the other hand, her "love" story was too unrealistic. Too impossible. Frankly, I am not sure about other people, but even when I am reading pure fiction, I LOVE to touch the realistic side in it, and that's what I do in my own writings. This story had no realistic side. Not at all. It was too impossible even without the vampires, werewolves, revenants, or wizards. It was too impossible. I mean, two people falling in love after two days of acquaintance, and then just after that, after just five days they spent together, wanting to dump their families and husband or wife because of this small encounter? Too unbelievable. And honestly, I wouldn't have spent that much time and effort on it if I knew this more the beginning. One last defect is that Steel talks too much between conversations. It is like two people are conversing, she has to go around writing a full page paragraph after one sentence, and before knowing what the reply of the other person was... which made the whole book more and more dull. After all, I did a little like the book. There were certain places where I could read 10 pages without even feeling a thing. Yes, I enjoyed some parts, but I would never recommend this book to anyone. I don't regret reading it, because I don't like prejudices or prejudgments. I wanted to taste more of Steel's work to know exactly why is she getting all the fame. But I would never ever, not after this book, find myself reading again one of her works.
Quick read that has a good story with a great location feel. I’d recommend this more for a beach read. It has that type of feel and story. Good way to spend an evening.

I can't believe how unbelievably awful this book was. Having never read a Danielle Steel before thought it would be a quick easy holiday read and would give it a try - the word Paris in the title was the deciding factor. It turned into a speed read just to get to the end. Paris featured briefly as the place that man meets woman.
Will leave Danielle Steel for those who enjoy this kind of thing!
I read Five Days in Paris by Danielle Steel. To begin, I honestly did not like this book very much. It was a very boring book, and the way Danielle explained and introduced new plot was horrible. She would explain the concept bluntly and upfront. Everything was given to you, and to make it worse, she wouldn’t merge the information with what one of the characters was saying or thinking, she would break the fourth wall and say it directly. Horridly boring way to get information, and it turned this simple 270 page book into what seemed like a 700 page nightmare. This book is a romance novel. I have no real reason why I chose this book. I needed a book, and this one looked more interesting than the other books out of my selection. It really didn’t seem all that bad before I started reading it. The book is about a man named Peter Haskell, a president of a pharmaceutical company about to release a “miracle” drug, and a woman named Olivia Thatcher. Olivia is already in a very bad relationship with an overly-ambitious politician. Olivia is very confused; she doesn’t love the man she is married to anymore. The protagonists are Peter and Olivia. The multiple antagonists are Olivia’s husband, a crazed politician, and Peter’s father-in-law, Frank, who wants to release Vicotec, a potentially dangerous drug that supposedly kills cancer (which is why “miracle” is in quotes up above), for the money rather than for the safety of the people with cancer. There are no other significant characters in this book. Peter goes to Paris to do a campaign sort of thing for his pharmaceutical company, but more for their creation, Vicotec. This drug was designed to kill cancer, but it had crazy side effects and killed the user of it sometimes. While staying at a hotel, someone threatens the hotel with a bomb, which forces everyone to evacuate. This includes Peter and Olivia. Peter noticed Olivia walking away in the dark by herself, and without thinking, catches up to her and they talk for a very long time about their lives. Olivia runs away in the near future, and Peter is the only one that really cares for Olivia, so he decides to track her down. They have a very limited time together in Paris, a mere five days, so Peter has to act fast to find her. More problems arise after Peter gets back to the States. His insanely greedy father-in-law pushes for Vicotec’s release, thinking only of profits. Peter is very confused and overwhelmed with emotion. He thought his life was perfect, but Olivia makes him realize that it isn’t. Olivia is in a marriage with a man who she doesn’t love anymore, and runs away. Being in each other’s presence makes them both happy and they truly enjoy the time they spend together. The strange thing is, is that Peter is also married, with children. He really gets caught over this because he can’t decide over his currently failing marriage and his children, or a girl he doesn’t know very much. Things get slightly hectic, but it never builds up too high. The main conflict for this story is hard to decide. Peter is just a flesh bag full of twisted emotions and daunting problems. To settle for a single conflict, it would be man vs. self. Peter must decide who he loves, who he wants to be with, and he has to do this in a short amount of time, while under pressure. Most of the book really goes over how bad of a mental state he is in.
A possible theme for this is,”keep moving forward, and don’t let anything get in your way.” Peter was having a very bad time making up his mind and stopping his dad. He was overwhelmed with emotion and he was afraid that Vicotec would be released. He went full on into his problems, and took them out one at a time. He didn’t stop or slow down; he kept going. No matter how much harder it got for him, he kept moving. His problems were resolved after complete hardships, and he was satisfied with the results he got. The author has a very distinct and boring writing style. She explains everything upfront, directly, boringly, and she repeats herself too many times to count. She does not use many large or sophisticated words either. This book was extremely boring to read. It felt like it took much longer than it really did to read it. It was hard to get motivated enough to start, and when I reached my goal for pages read for the day, I didn’t hesitate to close it up and forget about it. I definitely do not recommend this book. Besides being boring to read, it was very predictable, and its story was clichéd. Twilight had a better storyline (now that’s saying something).
-Adult -Fiction -Contemporary -Peter and Olivia have terrible partners, and they meet by coincidence in Paris and well, that gives the start of something, basically -It mostly focused on how Peter is struggling to get a new type of medicine to the market. -The title is very misleading, the book literally doesn’t mention a thing about Paris. (Literally only once) -The plot is boring and repetitive, and the romance? The romance was awful -They fall in love under 5 minutes, WITHOUT EXAGGERATING -At some point, I think that to break up an already married/existing couple, Steel has to make 1 of the members a complete bitch, there is no other way around -The book leaves so many points unfinished -Plot Twists/😨Moments: 0/5 -Characters: 1/5 -Plot: 1/5

For something by such a well known author I was sorely disappointed.
Firstly as a lot of people seem to have mentioned the background wasn't well distributed around the book, if she felt the need to tell the whole backstory it would have been less dizzying if she just started from there.
The romance was the typicical plot, cheesy lines copy pasted over and over. Then the worst part for me was the one dimensional characters "pity me I'm a handsome hard working man who's wife doesn't give me as much attention as her father", the Manic Pixie Dreamgirl (on whom a completely unrealistic anount of tragedy was placed, no woman in her situation would be thinking of some three day fling I can promise you that) and the BAD husband and BAD wife to soothe our consciences for rooting for the cheaters in the relationships.
Lastly the book ended right when it should have got interesting, the only reason I got so far was to find out how things would be resolved, jobs, house, etc but no I'm expected to be satiated with everyone else's lives being ruined and five seconds of hey we're an item! (I don't consider this a spoiler because come on you're reading a romantic novel by Danielle Steel when did it ever end without the couple getting together)
If you want to read about a cringeworthy romance, please read this one. Ugh, there was cheating in this book and the main character had NEVER thought about cheating before until he was this particular woman. It was love at first sight, literally. After five days they said they loved each other. What??? That doesn't happen. This man was married to his wife for eightteen years (a shitty marriage at that) and he fell in love with a random woman he had never met before.
His wife and his father-in-law were super close and extremely annoying. This whole was basically this man fighting with his wife and father-in-law about starting experiments on humans early (with the risk of the medicine being deadly) or waiting until there was no risk at all, but spending more money and taking more time. It was so boring, honestly. I'm glad it was so short, because I don't think I could have dealt with this a moment longer.
terrible! this is my third Steel book.I love the others. But This book was incredibly slow, repetitive, and boring.Almost the entire book was about business and politics.
This was fine, a quick summer read is all I ask for from Danielle Steel. Although it is frustrating to witness the 'snobby' self importance of the 'well to do' wife of the nice, down to earth guy.
Nice, lovely read. Predictably Danielle Steel which is good for comfort reading. Loved the chemistry between Peter and Olivia but I felt the ending was too rushed.
2.5⭐️ I hated the plot. I hated the characters. All of the relationships were TOXIC. I knew that from the start. Not liking the characters made this so difficult to read. This book would switch thoughts without clear direction, so that threw me at times. The author did fine, but .. like what made you write this? Why would you write this? All of the characters .. (well except for 1 or 2) horrible. Horrible humans. Horrible people. I can’t. I liked when they were in France and staying at the Ritz. The actions and words of some people made me sick. I would like to read more Danielle Steel, but if a lot of her books just have corrupt people and characters, I’d rather spend my time and energy in a different story.
I know Danielle Steel was one of the most noted novelist in the world but this novel, Five Days in Paris was not as grand as her previous novels. The pace of the story was a bit slow-- and fast-- and it was not necessarily boring but redundant. The conflict was interesting. I was told that most of Steel's works are like that, slow building pace of climax but this one was different. Peter's battle with his wife and his father-in-law was boring and every page has the same content. It turned out to be redundant (as I said). I'd hate to rate it low but that is what I think. I'm sorry. Please no hate. :)
I have never read a Danielle Steel book before. I wanted to read a genre that I would never normally read. Loving France as I do, I enjoyed the setting of the majority of the book. However, I didn't really enjoy the characters or the situations they were in. Although I had sympathy for the positions they were put in, I felt their interactions were wrong. There was a lot of repeating the same information throughout the book. Eh...I wouldn't read it again.
I like a lot of Danielle Steel’s books, unfortunately, this is not one of them. Her stories are better when good dominates instead of negatives like this novel. Only 2 of 10 stars.
