Distinguished fantasy tweetsmith Eriko "Ellie" Ichimura and Year One's resident heartthrob Akira Ohmi spend their first Christmas and hatsumode together, advancing from mutual interest to officially together. Unable to come down from cloud nine, Ellie has her precious phone confiscated by her teacher and ends up in detention with her classmate Kaname-kun. His total lack of situational awareness leads to Ellie hurting herself, but apparently, to Kaname-kun, this is an occasion calling for… friendship? What's going on?! Presenting Volume 6 of a plain pervert's curious romance!
Lots of fun in this volume. Valentine's Day, hurt feelings and reconciliation between Ellie and Sara... and Kaname is imprinting on Ellie? Uh-oh. Well, we know who her true love is, but we don't know how she'll get out of this mess. Next time!
I like this title a lot. I'd probably call it a comedy-romance, but thankfully it's attained a good balance and isn't trying my patience by constantly straining for double-takes.
I feel like this is fizzling out a little as a series, but since the previous volume didn't mess around too long with a love rival plotline, I'm willing to keep going even with a new one in this volume.
Volume 6 of Lovesick Ellie is our Valentine’s Day volume, though the theme is for the most part, surprisingly, more on friendship than on romance. Kaname is also causing tension in Ellie’s relationships, in more ways that one.
Lovesick Ellie just keeps growing on me. I have such a soft spot for this series. I find Ellie and her awkwardness so endearing, and her friendship with Sara is so cute, and her relationship with Ohmi is so clumsy and sweet. It’s always so fun when your two protagonists have such great chemistry. Ellie really brings out Ohmi’s shy but demanding side and I love it so much!
I appreciated that one of the major conflicts in this volume was between Sara and Ellie, it’s great to see that friends don’t always get along, and that friendships also require time and effort. I especially liked that the two girls also had a conversation about sex. Sex is not something that is often discussed in shoujo and I appreciated Sara’s positive attitude towards it. As for Sara and Reo, I still don’t really understand why she acts the way she does around him, though I imagine we’ll eventually find that out. The two shared some really cute scenes in this instalment and Reo is such a sweet guy.
As for that last chapter, I really enjoyed the first half, but was really surprised by how things ended. I just didn’t expect Lovesick Ellie to do something so typical, what!? I do think Kaname is a good rival though, in that he's easy to root for and his interactions with Ellie are super cute. Obviously I still prefer Ohmi though.
Also, props to Kaname for finally telling off Tanaka! While it would have been more satisfying if Ellie was the one to do it, I still enjoyed that scene immensely.
The first conflict between Sara and Ellie has occurred but in the end the power of friendship shines bright and true!!! I'm really happy they made up. I can't imagine a more iconic friendship duo than these two.
Sara and Reo are so cute hcjdgdhddh I want a spinoff featuring these two 😭 fhfjrgueir
ALSO CAN WE TAKE A MINUTE TO APPRECIATE THE ADORABLE TSUNDERE OHMI HE REMINDS ME SO MUCH OF MIKORIN FROM GEKKAN SHOUJO NOZAKI-KUN DSJKG
I'm so naive. Of course this would turn into a love triangle. Still, I can't help but be annoyed. We know exactly how the story is gonna go and it's silly to pretend otherwise. Still, I hope this series will find a way to surprise me.
It just keeps getting better and better! I love this series so much! I love how Omi-kun and Ellie-chan are becoming closer and they begin to separate reality from fantasies. We see them navigate all these different emotions that come from when you are super in love with someone. Also what kind of weird situation are we in with Kaneky-kun it's so weird but I'm glad I was right.
So close to a 4 star, my favorite volume yet!!! But I just hate love triangles so much that the ending made me sigh…That being said, I thought there was so much to love about this volume from the focus on Ellie and Sara, to the frank discussions of normalizing girls having sexual fantasies, and to solid relationship time!
I love that Ellie and Ohmi are finally a couple they are so cute together and I’m really rooting for Sara to finally give Reo a chance. A couple of things i didn’t like in this one is how Ellie treated Kaname, I feel like he genuinely wanted to be friends with her especially when he found out who she was on twitter but instead of giving him a chance she felt like he was blackmailing her which made absolutely no sense to me on how she came to that conclusion. I also didn’t like how she thought he was just trying to use her for money and stuff so she didn’t want to be friends with him but than after he sticks up for her and shows her that he’s nothing like that she STILL THINKS HE HAS BAD INTENTIONS when in reality all he wants is to be friends with her 😭. Now another thing that makes me upset and this goes for most romance mangas it’s when they try and add a love triangle knowing full well that person not about to be picked like she literally is just getting to know Kaname and she is 100% in love with Ohmi. So it’s sad since I really like Kaname he kinda makes me want to cheer for him just a little even though I know he’s not gonna get the girl which is really upsetting especially when they’re a good person it’s like you feel so bad cause you know they’re about to be rejected. In Kaname case I just really want him to end up being friends with Ellie and and everyone else in the friend group and who knows maybe he will magically end up with Sakura since she was also rejected than again maybe not 🤔idk I just hope he gets his happy ending.

Wait this was actually a pretty cute and fresh take from the shoujo mangas?
I think it was good that in this volume, they decided to focus on Ellie and Sara-chan's friendship. In most shoujo mangas, the focus always revolves around the couple leads and the best friend is always just there to support and whatever. I like that this volume focused on the insecurities of BOTH girls. I know what both of them felt like and I found it quite refreshing that they also decided to show the friends have a quarrel (and of course make up in the end). I also found the Valentine chapter cute albeit quite overused at times. Nonetheless I thought it was a cute chapter for the couple. One more thing I like is how Kaname was given a bigger role here. Usually, the second lead is the guy's best friend or some sort of cool dude too. I think Kaname is a different take because if anything he IS like Ellie and like Ellie, he is also just experiencing these feelings (friendship, love, etc) for the first time. Sadly, I'm pretty sure I know this will end baldy for him, but nonetheless, I hope he will still be happy.
Overall, this is the first time I'm giving this series a 5-star rating, if anything this volume had everything and I'm actually happy with this one. I am definitely looking forward for the development of this "love triangle" next volume and I hope to see more from the 3 of them (as well as Sara-chan and Reo) to the next coming volumes. :)
this has been my favorite volume so far. i love that the main conflict in this volume was between ellie and sara, because friendships require communication and trust. i also loved the conversation between the girls about sex. female sexuality and sensuality is rarely talked about in upping fiction, especially shoujo, i had to stop and reread that conversation because it was so good.
also the development between ohmi and ellie made me squeal like a teenager lol. they don’t get as nervous with each other and ellie can pull off sneaking kisses with ohmi on valentine’s day.
the only criticism i have for this volume is the very end. i feel like this is the third (?) time this series has tried to pull a love triangle and i’m already kinda over this new guy.

The Valentine's Day chapter was just... so perfect. I also really like how important the friendship between Ellie and Sara is, some manga series push friends to the side completely, and I'm glad that's not the case here. I also appreciate how Fujimomo made it a point to normalize girls having sexual thoughts and feelings, we really are made to feel like we should think pure thoughts only, and that's just not the reality of things. The ending though.... I relate so much to Ellie and her difficulty with friends, and I love how she wanted to make it a point to try and befriend Kaname and argue with Ohmi about how it's not an easy thing for everyone. It just meant a lot to me.
The cliffhanger had me drop my jaw though!!! Can't wait to see the drama that'll unfold ahhhhh!
It's been a while since I read v.5 and I'm slumping hard, but even so this was a great volume. It was cute and got some laughter out of me. The friendship between Sara-chan and Ellie shined, and I also got a kick out of the Kaname plot line. Like Kaname a lot. The only nitpick for me is that lack of communication was the triggering factor for a lot of the conflict, which normally bugs me. But I don't know. It kind of works here because the story has so many more pros than cons, because the characters are young, and because it goes with Ellie's character. She's awkward and lacks social skills after all. I can also see how even more cliche tropes will be used up ahead, but to be honest I'm not worried about it. I think it can be done well or at least decently.
So many things happening in this one whew. We have Ellie and Sara's friendship being tested–which I'm glad worked out well because it hurts to see them both being sad :(
It's obvious that Sara relies on Takagi too, but she's too embarrassed? Egoistic? Idk, she just didn't want to accept that Takagi does support her. And ahhhh Ellie's date with Omi during valentines was super cute :') I love how Omi always supports Ellie, even when her perverted side went overboard lol THEY'RE LITERALLY A MATCHMADE IN HEAVEN
And then there's Kaname. Oh boy I do like you, BUT I WARNED YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM THE SHIP AAAAAARRGGHHHH
ellie was insufferable for most of this D: her conflict with sara was so sudden and based completely on miscommunication -_- and then she again tries to self-sabotage during valentine's....then what the heck is that ending?? I thought kaname was going to focus on friendship but this love triangle thing came on so quickly!! we don't need a love triangle, ellie and ohmi get in their own way enough lol.
redeeming qualities: ellie and sara's discussion on sexuality and how it's good for girls to be educated and think about it (especially in Japan where female sexuality is discouraged) was fantastic.

Now I support the hell out of Ellie and Omi-kun because of how they’re growing with each other and being cute. It’s been very adorable seeing Ellie bring out different sides of Omi-kin, as well as seeing how he handles her fantasies. However, I also REALLY like the idea of Kaname-kun somehow getting together with Ellie or even finding a girlfriend of his own. There’s just something about the awkward or asocial male character finding something to believe in or wanting to get to know the female character after she becomes his light. I just have a huge soft spot for those type of storylines.

It getting good! I love that there is another boy that will be testing Ellie’s and Ohmi relationship, because even if they are officially a couple no one at school knows with the exemption of Sara y Reo… well and now Kaname kun.
I also loooove what Sara told Ellie that is natural for girls to think about doing “it” with your partner and thinking and preparing for it was fine. I think there is always a stigma that a woman mind should be pure of any sexual thought, but we too pass by our adolescence and have changes on our body.
The misunderstanding between Ellie and Sara was stressing me out. I am glad they were able to work it out. I adore their friendship - they are so sweet and wonderful to each other!
Ohmi though...it is really hard for me to support him as a love interest because he is such a self-serving controlling jerk. I think Ellie deserves better. (I don't think Kaname is good for her romantically either though - I can foresee her getting pingpong-ed between two jealous, posturing, possessive immature boys. Poor Ellie.)
The tone shifted considerably in this volume. I think it was a bit too brisk in pace. I understand the need to move the story along, but it made the story a bit jerky. One second standard comedic tone, next DEAD SERIOUS.
Kaname caused so much trouble and Sara and Eriko were so cute in this volume. Valentine's day was brilliant and Ohmi's surprise was so romantic and cute. Eriko was so hilarious and the miscommunication at the end was so drama filled. Kaname is so socially challenging that he really causes problems for Eriko and Ohmi. This was so fun and such a good read, so worth the read.

I really love the friendship between Ellie and Sara. I also relate WAY too much to Kaname and want him to be happy outside of his gamer world. But then I still like Ellie and Ohmi together. AGH I AM SO CONFLICTED.
So freaking adorable. I loved this installment and getting to see more of Ellie and Ohmi interacting. Also Kaname’s character development in this book is now making things interesting. Can’t wait to read the next one.
