I picked this up at the school book fair months ago because I always support the book fairs. I just journeyed through with my son. Super exciting adventure for being stuck at home! We loved the puzzles, and he loved using the Ghost-o-matic. The story (told through “primary sources”) is pretty involved, so you can’t just race through. Following the mystery in the text — what happened to Ag, the owner of the journal — kept us reading past when we should have gone to sleep. As other reviews have noted, I too hope to find another story like this soon. It’s fun to share a book of this nature with someone — like an I Spy book. Reminds me of the Skeleton Creek books, only more interactive.
This was so much fun; the entire time all I could think was how i couldn't wait to share with my nephews when i was finished! The story felt a bit rushed/confusing at the end, but that could also have been my own bias; I had decided to work on it all in one go and it took longer than I anticipated. The ONE thing that's driving me crazy tho- I finished at 96% and I haven't a clue what I missed. I NEED that extra 4% to feel complete! Otherwise this was unlike anything I've ever seen before and I hope more authors will give this type of interactive multi media story a try!
I was so excited to win this book at a school event. The augmented reality makes the ghost adventure so fun! It reminded me of the many puzzle stories I'd done as a child. It's unfortunate the app hasn't been updated for newer phones. Luckily had an old one lying around to use.
Before buying this book, check to see if the app is available for a device you have access to. It is an absolute must in order to complete the book's mystery. If you have trouble, check for the walkthrough on YouTube.
This was a fun and interesting concept for an interactive book. I was lucky enough to have an ipad old enough to still host the app - my phone was too new. So going through the book was a bit cumbersome, but still worth it. I liked the concept and the puzzle aspect. It was an interesting take on ghosts and ghosthunting and the main character was weird but likeable. Really wish there were more books like this, because it gives a fun interactive element that I love.
The Ghostkeeper's Journal and Field Guide is certainly a funny and innovative book. I could refer to it as "interactive" as you need to download an application to live the total experience of it, which is its charm. This whimsical book introduces to the readers a new generation of childen literature correlative of technology, as well as provides them with food for thought and hours of fun!
*slams 5 star button* Oh my God, this was amazing! I picked this up at an elementary book fair and it gave me hours of entertainment. It comes with a free app that you'll need to solve Ag's whereabouts. I really hope the author makes a sequel of some kind.
This book was so inventive and immersive! I've never experienced anything like it! I loved the story and the interaction/puzzle solving aspect was always different! I hope there are more books like this in the future!
