“Don’t worry, it’s only a story.” David Shakes has established himself as a storyteller with an eye for the darkness in the everyday. Through flash fiction and the very short story, he has been chilling audiences online, through various anthologies, and in live performances for years. This collection gathers his most popular early work in the same place for the first time. Inside, you’ll find devils, demons and ghosts; the lost and the wicked; the damned and deranged. The horrors in this book lurk in shadows of the day, ghosts in every sense haunt its pages. “The provider of an almost comforting melancholia which will stay with you after you turn the last page…” Susan Omand, The Dreamcage. These are the Persistent Remains.
What an amazing selection of flash stories! Many great ideas that sent shivers down my spine. Very short, often everyday situations, great perspectives. The author here really has talent! One of my favourites here was Hobb's End. If you want enjoy bits and pieces of horror like M&Ms this is your treasure box. Highly recommended!
