The Race is on to Save Colin and Bring Him Back from the Beyond.
Even if being a personal wizard to a powerful CEO has its perks, Colin Fisher’s body and soul have paid for these benefits with every case. From stopping a crime spree by a demon pact wizard to killing a relentless ice demon, he's been on the job. Yet he still doesn’t know what happened to his fiancée on the night he gained his magic.
To solve that mystery, he will have to pay the highest price yet. On the floor of his arcane sanctum, in a self-induced coma, he’s trying to peel back the layers of time and solve the enigma. But if he does, he may never wake up.
Meanwhile, the two women who love him have their hands full trying to keep him alive while he’s on his spirit journey. Veruca Wakefield, demon blooded assassin, and Andrea Deveraux, FBI trained agent, will have to work together if they are to defeat both threats and save Colin.
Delivery boy, psychologist, retired vagabond wizard, and father of three. I read and write all manner of speculative fiction, but have an especially deep love of urban fantasy.
I was pretty much okay with the first two books; enough to continue reading, but not enough to rate and review them. So, this third book in the series really caught me off guard. Everything works, from character development to storyline. So much so, that I might have to revisit my impressions of the previous books. I've not got any authoritative expertise but, for me, Colin's coma journey is one excellent, if not exquisite, piece of writing. It's the kind of craftsmanship I've come to expect of Garon Whited. For me, that's high praise. That requires an appreciative review and 5 star rating.
Colin Fisher is a wizard and is the personal wizard to a powerful CEO. He has been busy with this skill from stopping a demon pact wizard to killing a relentless ice demon, but he still has one thing outstanding - what happened to his fiancee after he gained his magic? Now he has to pay his highest price ever as he tries to peel back layers of time and solve an enigma - problem is if he does do that he may never wake up from his current coma. Battling to keep him safe are two woman who both love him - a demon blooded assassin called Veruca Wakefield and an FBI Agent called Andrea Deveraux - however can these love rivals work together to save Colin?
This is the third book in the series and I think it would add a bit more if you had read the previous books before this one - so don't start in the middle of the series. It was a good story and I liked the way the modern knights linked into knights we all should know about from history. It was also nice to see that whilst Colin is a wizard he didn't really do any magic in the story and it seemed to be a story that focused on history and what had happened in the past (mostly). I liked the love "triangle" between the two women who loved him and how they grew to respect each other during their fight to keep Colin alive. The story was well written and easy to understand. An enjoyable book that was a good read.
If you’ve read the first two books in this series, I must warn you that this book doesn’t focus on Colin. He does, of course, play a part, but his two love interests are front and center for a lot of it. We also get a huge part of the history of Colin and his true love, and how he came to this lifetime. Hmm, was that too much? I hope that wasn’t too much of a spoiler, but hope it’s more something to intrigue you to pick this up. What the book also has is the great writing, plot, and characters I’ve come to expect from this author. I quite enjoyed it because it had the feel of an interlude, something to introduce a new part of the story. I am intrigued where the author will go from here after the events of this book as there were some unexpected endings. This book is not to be missed by fans of this series. If you are thinking of starting this series, don’t pick up the series here, however. Start from the beginning, and you will be so glad you did! Highly recommend! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
