Alyx Keating failed at life. Now she's failed at death. She thought she was done with spirit guide school, but she's not. She's not even close.

Because she graduated with a colossally bad rating, she's called back another round of lessons with a new instructor. Her teacher, Phineas, is a pompous angel with a terrible attitude and little patience for her slacker attitude. Meanwhile, the lead singer of Alyx's favorite band might be more attainable than she thinks...

Alyx, Leigh, and Taishi all return in this sequel to School for Spirits: A Dead Girl and a Samurai.

I'm a rather reclusive author living in Ohio with four cats.
I write super fluffy fluff and darkest grim grimdark. "This author has a strange imagination" was my favorite compliment ever. I hope my strange imagination entertains someone out there!

This story was amazing. I was hooked. Read it in a day and could not put it down. Seeing the girl who didn’t care change and grow was beautiful. Each mission was different and completely unique!

After the first book in the series I thought the second one couldn't be as good but it was. We met Alyx in the first book as Leigh's roommate and this is her story. She was second worst student of her Spirit class and she gets a second chance and is paired up with Angel Phineas who was a Lord when he was living.
I love Alyx who goes from being apathetic to loving her role of Spirit guide and Phineas who is tough to like but grows on you. I also loved seeing how Leigh and Taishi are getting along. I really enjoyed seeing the missions they went on and who they helped.

A fantastic series and this book was an excellent read.

I frickin LOVED this book. I thought the previous book was good. But this one just topped it off.

Alyx was hilarious. Her occasional spelling mistakes in her texts were just marvelous. I laughed for a solid minute or two with this one:

“Where u at? Poopy garden?”

Phineas was also amazing. Alyx has so far been my favorite character in the series. However, Alyx should have flogged that Kerry guy. Or, better yet, Phineas should have given the cad a lesson. That would have cemented Phineas' place in my heart much more. Besides that, the spirit guidance part was excellent as usual.

So, if you like angels, the afterlife, or teen romance, this is the book for you.

written from Alyx's view point we follow our new spirits as they continue their journey to becoming spirit guides and maybe one day angels.
it's a lovely book and series, simply written with short chapters and not too long. Easy to read you find you've finished quickly and now I'm looking for the next to continue the story.

Aw! What a great story

As I started this second book in the series, I had hoped Leigh would be the main character. With Alyx's personality and track record from the first book, I'd been a bit concerned about how likeable I would find her to be. I needn't have had any concerns at all - I found her to be kind, committed, and strong. Especially as she grew through her missions and interactions (both, with other spirits and with the humans involved in her missions), I really came to like her and enjoy the way she presented herself.
I'm getting the sense that each book in the series will have a different main character and I'm looking forward to seeing who will be next. I do hope that there will at least be cameo appearances of Alyx, Phineas, Leigh and Taishi as we proceed through the series so we can keep up with how things are going for them.

Stories Within Stories

Okay I admit it; I love this series of books. Aron Lewes has a new fan in me. I love the stories woven into the main storyline. I've now read books one and two and I'm off to find book three.

Another charming adventure

As the story continues, so does the charm. I enjoyed the book very much.

Aron continues to make me laugh out loud.

The main character in this second book of the series is Alys, a girl that has been slacker and ended up with a bad rating on her attempt to work with a partner and help people. She's given a second chance, though. Her new partner is Phileas who's very tough but also very good as a guide.

There's more trouble with Jophiel who somehow got to the rank of archangel even though he's basically a pretty scummy person.

Alys and Phineas go to check up on Alys' family and how they are doing and discover shadow creatures that have to be dealt with. The missions get under way and it turns out that the missions can also take place in the past. (Which I don't understand, actually. Since the mission is taking place in the past wouldn't it have already worked or failed since it is in the past and any change would alter history with who knows what effects in the present?)

Another odd thing is that some missions might end up helping people who are not good people but it still has to be done. I really like the way Phileas and Alys' relationship changes nad how Alys improves as a person. The whole concept of people who die (all or some of them?) are put into positions where they can help others who are still alive.

This book continued the feel-good reaction that comes from a good story. You may not agree, but I think you are missing out if you don't give this series a try.

This 2nd book in the Spirit School series gives us Alyx's story, she was a suicide case and she had felt a failure all her life, so when she arrived at the school for spirits she lacked all motivation and also failed in her spirit guide testing. What was worse was the fact that her roommate Leigh excelled at whatever she did, and Alyx felt envious and very despondent. The angel Amber offered her a 2nd chance to take the test again, and she got to choose her mentor. She chose Phineas, who was arrogant, very rude and had strict ideas of acceptable behaviour as well as a dress code from his own time, the 1800's. However this time round Alyx was adamant she would do her best, and once she met the people she was supposed to guide she got very involved. She showed great empathy and care for those in trouble, and went out of her way to help even beyond her call of duty. I really enjoyed this 2nd book which shows that everyone can benefit from being given a 2nd chance and that it was her lack of self confidence which made Alyx seem and act so brash hiding the fact that she cared and hurt for others. I really loved the feel good ending and I do hope there are more books in this series as I am really loving reading about the afterlife and home.

OK

I liked it but didn’t necessarily love it. I purchased the whole series so I’m hoping Book 3 will have done surprises
