A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.

Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.

Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.

Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.

Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.

He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.

Kingpin may have been nicked but he’s got an ace up his sleeve. If the FBI Director cuts him loose, he’ll give him The Murdock Papers, irrefutable proof that the blind lawyer of Hell’s Kitchen, Matt Murdock, is The Man Without Fear himself, Daredevil!

Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev bow out their celebrated Daredevil run with a disappointingly middling effort. It feels like Bendis was plain burned out at this point. The “Matt Murdock is Daredevil” thing was run into the ground during this series and dredging it up one last time didn’t make for the most interesting plotline. It doesn’t help either that this was years ago so I know Matt’s secret identity reveal got retconned to no effect not long after!

Matt’s ex, Milla, returns to be Matt’s contrived weak spot, Black Widow and Elektra show up for no real reason, and Bullseye pops in for some arbitrary classic Daredevil action. Not that it’s too boring - this stuff didn’t impress me but it did just enough to hold my attention - though it reads like Bendis spinning his wheels. Even Alex Maleev’s art is just ok - not too dull but not too special either.

Bendis writes a really great Kingpin - his use of Ben Urich and the Murdock Papers ploy cleverly showed how cunning, manipulative and unpredictable he can be. And, despite proving to be a sucker punch fake-out, Matt’s courtroom daydream at the end was gripping stuff while the ruse played out. Ya got me, Bendis!

Daredevil, Volume 13: The Murdock Papers isn’t the most satisfying of finales and is especially underwhelming for this exceptional creative team, but it’s not a terrible way to go out either; it’s a decent closer. And I’d definitely still rec this run to anyone looking for some cool Daredevil comics because Bendis did write some excellent books amidst his more mediocre ones.

My favorite run of Daredevil, and probably the best thing BMB did at Marvel. This run was a lot of what Bendis does best (strong television style storytelling) without a lot of his unneccesary retcons or stunt driven shakeups held up by snappy banter. This is the book that delivered the goods to me, and it made the "epics" like New Avengers and the false starts of Moon Knight and Spider-Woman suffer by comparison. Bendis had something to say about Daredevil, and he did it in a compelling way.

Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, in federal prison awaiting trial after being brought down by Daredevil in Hardcore, makes a deal with the FBI to give up everything he has on Daredevil in exchange for a full pardon. All of Fisk's considerable intel on Daredevil exists in his "Murdock papers" located in a safe in a lawyer's office. When Ben Urich reports that there exists solid evidence that could be used to control Matt Murdock, allies and enemies come out of the woodwork to do battle on the streets of New York.

This completes Bendis and Maleev's epic run on Daredevil, and it's been a great sequence of explosive, suspenseful stories. It's capped off by this one, which may be the most explosive, suspenseful, unpredictable, and all-encompassing story of all by this team. Many major characters in the Daredevil cast are brought out to either protect Matt and Milla Donovan (Matt's wife who he has apparently begun to reconcile with) or to try killing DD's allies in order to get to Matt or Fisk's evidence. A spectacular climax is followed by . The final issue serves as a great epilogue but does just as much to set up the next arc. Maleev handles all of the action as cinematically as ever, and he has some excellent splash pages that are some of my favorite action images of DD yet.

After a so-so "Golden Age" (vol.11) and a disappointing "Decalogue" (vol.12), Bendis redeems himself with one of the best arcs of his landmark Daredevil run, and manages to set the stage for Brubaker's equally stellar run on the title.

I like that the Kingpin gets what's coming to him, that the "bad guy doesn't get away with it." All the supporting characters are present and nothing feels superfluous, the pacing is perfect and the dialogue and interior monologues are top-notch. You really feel the tension building as you progress through the story, and, just like Daredevil himself, you realise that the walls are closing in and that things will end badly.

A stellar end to a spectacular run.
Or, at least, that's what I would like to say.
The final volume in the once spectacular Bendis/Maleev run brings another chapter in Daredevil's life to yet another close.
This volume features a bunch of Daredevil's friends and gals, such as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Elektra, Black Widow, Mila Donovan, and Agent Del Toro, a.k.a. the White Tiger. and, I guess, was a fitting end.

Kingpin offers the gov proof on Murdock that proves he is DD in exchange for his own freedom. However, the info is hidden in a building.
Elektra just so happens to know where it is. Oh, another person also knows where it is, a person who should not know where it is, since it should be impossible for him to know.
So, Murdock and co. must race to the building and get the info before the FBI does...

This comic had quite a few problems!
Like,

All in all, the B/M run may not have been as stellar as I'd like it to be, but it was at least entertaining.Let's hope Mr. Brubaker doesn't mess up...

If I could give this zero stars, I would. This book had so much partial nudity, I wanted to just write 'this book had nudity'. I did not finish this book because of an oral sex scene.

And, for the record, women do not wear clothing like Elektra's or zippers so far down like Natasha's when they fight! It wouldn't work!

The legendary run of Bendis and Maleev comes to a close in a rapid decent into figurative hell, as Matt's house of cards finally can no longer support his weight. As always, Maleev's art serves Bendis's hard boiled story perfectly and this page turner really gets the reader lost in its world, however I have a major complaint, which is that it seems in his hurry to wrap up his run, Bendis is less concerned than he should be with canon. I'm particularly concerned with Milla's sudden change of heart, which serves the dramatic purpose of dangling a happily ever after in front of our doomed hero, before interrupting the reconciled couple, as they're about to make love, with news that instantly drops him into his downward spiral. It suits its dramatic purpose fine, but what was her motivation to forgive and come back to him? It seems to contradict her feelings the last time we saw her.

This installment really leaves one with the feeling that they've just been through a great and satisfying ride that one has stuck with through highs and lows.

With the previous collection being my favorite arc yet, I had high expectations for The Murdock Papers. Adding to those expectations was knowing that this was the final Brian Michael Bendis & Alex Maleev arc for Daredevil. Six issues (76-81) and that would be it.

The Murdock Papers focuses solely on Wilson Fisk offering a deal with the Feds to provide evidence that proves that Murdock is in fact Daredevil. A simple premise with a stunning conclusion that capped off the mammoth story that Bendis & Maleev told.

I really, really enjoyed BMB & Maleev's work in the second volume of Daredevil. They gave life to a hero I only knew little about and turned him easily into one of my favorites. The stories were often dark and complex and messy, but so engaging that I couldn't help but keep reading. I'm a bit hesitant to continue on with the rest of Volume 2 (another 50 issues!), but I plan on finishing. We'll see.

The end of an era.

Bendis puts everything he has into this final arc. Kingpin has had enough and he wants Matt exposed. He makes a deal to release papers to PROVE Matt is Daredevil once and for all. This leads everyone on a chase as news gets out. Matt tries to hunt down these papers with the help of Elecktra and Black Widow. It's chaos when Bullseye gets involved, and all hell breaks loose, leaving us battered and bruised just like Matt.

A excellent ending, sad, emotional, scary, and also amazing all at once. Plenty of great fight scenes, excellent character moments, and truly exceptional pacing. This is Bendis firing his best, and leaves many other creators having to catch up. A 5 out of 5.

Woah, that happened. That totally happened. I loved it. I’ll certainly miss Bendis’ run and it’s honestly iconic how it’s about exposing Matt as DD. I’ll miss Maleev’s art too, his Matt Murdock looks so handsome and rough.

Bendis and Maleev end their run with a bang. Dave Stewart’s colors here really help give the final arc a unique look. Even after working for the guy, I cannot wrap my head around how he does what he does. The pacing is great. Bendis finally slowed down towards the end, and the ending greatly benefited from the slow boil.

A nearly perfect takedown of Matt Murdock, and conclusion to Bendis and Maleev's run on Daredevil. Unfortunately, there's a sequence in the last issue that feels like a cop-out and detour from the obvious, and interesting, end to the story of what happens to Daredevil when his identity is revealed.
This run of stories is really excellent. I'm glad Marvel gave Bendis, and Brubaker after him, the freedom to tell great superhero and crime stories without having them get bogged down in Marvel continuity. Daredevil never really seems to work in a team-setting--he's just a guy protecting his neighborhood--and Bendis does a great job throughout of using Daredevil's history well.

I thought twice about going the five stars because this series for me was hard to fit with the scope of hero comics- the stakes were so seemingly high, but nothing was quite sticking- daredevil was going to have to keep a secret somehow, or at least regain his lawyer self somehow. I went with the 5 star because the deal with kingpin and the FBI was so juicy and the dream sequence of daredevil's future was both extreme and well pitched at the same time that I thought it was worth it. Those moments are worthwhile, even if it gets twisted next ish (not saying that it does, but it could!).
Nice run Bendis and Maleev!

Probably the best singular superhero work Bendis has ever done and probably will ever do. None of the usual hated on Bendis expository dialogue, he reels himself in with this and causes real change in the character. Tightly written and drawn by the amazing Alex Maleev who draws New York City the way it was meant to be drawn.

Seriously, do yourself a favor and buy the hard covers which also include some really great David Mack back stories.

Boom: betrayal, revelations, scheming. This writer ends his run with a bang. No, wait, it's a prolonged wet fart. Pretty much every scene has something illogical or downright stupid in it. Let's hope the new creative team has something better.

Fisk - a man who is effectively an immortal, the last of his kind, he who rules them all, the chosen - is back. He tells Ben Urich that he wants to make a deal with the FBI - the truth about Daredevil in exchange for walking free. Why is he eating a raw egg, though? Milla returns into Matt's life. He will need to refocus when he finds that Fisk's reveal is all about him. Haven't we been through this already?

Do drzwi zapukała Milla, aktualna miłość Murdocka.

Absolutne 5/5. A Maleev jak zwykle był tu fenomenalny. Ta jego gruba kreska, zabawa cieniem i ciemne kolory... To kwintesencja tego czym jest Daredevil.

Bendis ends his run on Daredevil with an insane story that ends on a cliffhanger that if Brubaker fumbles, will be a bigger missed opportunity than humanity creating My Little Pony action figures, but making it a taboo to put them in jars (if you know what I mean 😈).

The last few volumes have been on point, and this does not disappoint at all. I love the set up for the story, bringing back King Pin to rat out all of Daredevil’s dirty secrets to the FBI, getting Urich to report on it, and Matt assembling every woman he’s fucked to help him get to the evidence before the FBI. It takes its time with the pacing, which helps the reader be more invested, and with all the dramatic set up for this heist, it makes the twist hit harder. King Pin’s ultimate plan was very clever, and makes for a heartbreaking moment where everything goes to shit, all the pieces fall into place, and even though it’s bad for the heroes, I respect Fisk for being able to do what he did, by lying about the ‘Murdock papers’ to trick everyone into being involved, so he use the opportunity to shoot Daredevil, get him to the superhero hospital, interrogate Urich about where they are, so they can arrest Matt and have iron proof he’s Daredevil, all while Fisk strikes a deal with the FBI to go free. Seeing it all unfold is very investing, and the appearances from other characters in the mythos makes it feel more like a finale (even if it technically isn’t). The dream fake out was pretty cool, and like I said, the ending where Fisk goes to prison anyway with Matt, makes me so mad that the Brubaker run isn’t in print right now, because I need to know what happens next!

It’s such an engaging story, and makes me sad that we’ve gotten to the end of the Bendis run, I’m glad the story carries on, but without the reliable Bendis writing, and the talented Maleev drawing, I can’t be sure it’ll live up to what’s come before. This takes the reader on a wild ride, and calls back to many events subtly set up in previous volumes, like Matt getting a fresh start from Shield, or the Hand, and manages to give itself a strong emotional core with the raised stakes and dastardly plot. This whole run is truly special, and obvious, as to why it’s iconic.

For years, many comics fans declared the Frank Miller run on Daredevil to be the best the series had ever been. Miller's reign on the Man Without Fear went unchallenged for many years. And then Brian Michael Bendis came along.

He managed to take the character down new and exciting roads (for us), without losing any of the grittiness that the character had become known for. First of all, he outed him to the press. He then married him. Then, he made him suffer a nervous breakdown and become the new Kingpin. So, after all of that, you would think there was nowhere else Bendis could go. You would be wrong.

It turns out, he was holding one more trump card. That card is Volume 13: The Murdock Papers. So, here's the basic story. Wilson Fisk is in jail. Daredevil is still the Kingpin. And the FBI want nothing more than to put Matt Murdock behind bars. They get their chance. Fisk makes a plea deal with the Feds, claiming he has irrefutable proof that Matt Murdock is indeed Daredevil. That evidence is locked in a safe, in the office of Fisk's lawyer. It doesn't take long for the Black Widow to find out about this and tell Matt. Aided by the Widow and Elektra, Daredevil must race across town to get to the info before the Feds do. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong! Standing in his way is Bullseye! Yeah, Bendis saved the best for last on this one. If you think this story has a happy ending, you obviously haven't been reading Daredevil for long!

All in all, though it's sad to see the best Daredevil writer since Frank Miller leave the book, Bendis does so in a fitting way that suits everything he's set up over his run.

What a mediocre ass finale to what was otherwise a very good run.

Fisk is back and making a deal with the Feds where he'll give them everything he has on Matt Murdock (that he dubs the Murdock papers) in exchange to leave the country and walk free. The Feds aren't the only ones after the papers and some old girlfriends and enemies show up.

We've been there and done that SO MANY times just in this run about his secret identity so for that to be the finale plot was boring as shit. What was the point of everyone doing this?? There wasn't one.

Milla shows up as does Black Widow and Elektra... all for no reason besides to showcase how angry I can get at male writers and artists. First Milla is in her underwear almost the entire time and then Black Widow of course has her zipper all the way down. But the kicker!!! I didn't think it would be possible to make Elektra's orginal outfit even worse but these horny dudes said bet. Like are you fucking serious right now?? Her Elektrussy was OUT the whole damn time and no woman is going to fight almost naked you stupid horny men. Impractical doesn't even cover it and even her orginal outfit would do more than those strings did.

THEN we have MULTIPLE CHARACTERS calling her a "ninja skank". When Bullseye did it I was like okay whatever he's a bad guy but then Natasha called her that and I was ready to throw hands. Immediately no. Don't touch my favorite characters if all you're going to do with them is character assassinate and oversexualize them.

I thought I would miss this team but nah... I'm ready to move the fuck on.

Do you believe in luck? Well, after taking lucky step seven down the Road to Civil War (marvelguides.com), I have to say, I am a believer.

Step Seven is the delightfully dynamic Daredevil - The Murdock Papers. It is also the end of the run for the team of Bendis and Maleev. And, let me tell you, they know how to go out with a bang.

Fisk is in prison and willing to make a deal. For a clean-slate, he will gladly sell Matt Murdock down the river by proving once-and-for-all that he is Daredevil. So the race is on to find the elusive and damning Murdock Papers. Who will get their first? The FBI, who want Matt's head on a pike. Elektra or Black Widow, who only want to save our hero. Or, Bullseye, who wants the power to control Daredevil. You'll have to read to find out. Though I will say, there are a few twists in the road ahead for everyone involved.

The Murdock Papers is a powerful piece of storytelling from Bendis and was a pleasure to read. Thank you.

Maleev's artwork is dynamic and eye-catching. He has a flair for creating iconic and memorable images. Thank you for the alluring artwork; a delight to behold.

The Murdock Papers is an entertaining page-turner of a read. Usually, I take breaks to make coffee, lunch, etc, but not this time. No, this was a straight read-through, and then I could not wait for the following instalment. I highly recommend this to all comic-book and graphic novel fans. Do yourself a favour and give yourself a treat - Read this book.

It's the end of the Bendis run, and what a ride it's been.
Daredevil is out of chances and the check has come due. This book builds into a hugely entertaining shitstorm as every plot thread we've been following for the last 80+ issues demands to be dealt with all at the same time. Even with the help of his friends and frenemies he can't manage to make it out unscathed, and on top of all this, there is also a clever Kingpin twist, and a daring double cross.
What a way to set up the next writer and propel us into the next story arc.

For nerd-candy: This book also has probably the best Bullseye entrance I've ever seen. A motorcycle, questionable physics, and a perfect understanding of the character might be involved.

My only complaint that keeps this book from hitting that 5 star mark is that I didn't feel there was enough closure for all of these suddenly woven together threads. Still a solid book, but with so much happening at once, I don't think we had enough time to appreciate some of the minutia of what was happening.

After I closed the book and had a second to think, I was like "Wait a minute?! Did Bendis just give us the Seinfeld ending!?" (rolls out bassline) This passing though amused me for longer than I like to admit, but in all seriousness, I'm super looking forward to Brubaker and Lark picking up our story.

I finally complete to Bendis era.
First of all thanks to creative team Bendis and Maleev for the era.
Again Maleev proved a talented artist. He has very perfect draw such as Matt's life and Hell's Kitchen's atmosphere.
Secondly, Bendis at the beginning to the end, very unique write the Journey Of the Matt and Daredevil.
I hope Brubaker's era as good as Bendis's era.
Anyway, the next station is The Devil in Cell-Block D

An excellent way for Bendis and Maleev to end their run, really satisfying. Maleev’s art is great, as always. And I was happy Bendis went back to the main story. At first it seemed his story was “been there, done that”, but it had a good twist. And at the end of this story arc, Matt Murdock was put in an awkward position. Eager to find out how he will deal with it in the next books by Brubaker and Lark.

8/10 And with that the Bendis run on daredevil finishes. This was a pretty long run but overall it was pretty great. After reading a hundred and fifty issues of Ultimate Spider-Man and over fifty issues of this I need to take a Bendis break. But this is a great run and I feel that I have now read a good amount of comics that I just want to read more cause this is great. Need to go finish the Zdarsky run than maybe hit up some Brubaker or maybe I’ll go read x-men idk comics are great!!!

Right in my top 10 runs. First thing, the fact that we were able to enjoy Maleev’s work for almost the entire run is unbelievable, he was the perfect companion for a Daredevil story. The run ends in a logical but not less impactful way, everything falls into place whether good or bad, and everything Daredevil did comes back at him. Daredevil 78 had one of the best finales I remember.
