[Nanatsu no Taizai] #18

The Seven Deadly Sins vol. 18

Rate this book

I watched the scenes first in this volume in the anime, so it wasn't really surprising.

It's good to meet the gang again. Ban is still my favorite Sin Knight.

Ban: Yeah... it is hard. But crying about it is not going to bring her back.

An awful lot happens in this volume which both furthers the plot and brings unexpected surprises! However, the book is also mainly devoted to Ban, who has been gone for a while. We get caught up on what happened to him in the meantime plus he has a lead story going on. Furthermore, there are lots of flashbacks to his past finally giving us his backstory. Great volume!

4/5 Stars (%74/100)

The first few chapters are a bit boring in my opinion and that is why I originally wanted to rate it lower. However, seeing that most of the book is dedicated to Ban, I actually enjoyed it, especially the ending. Ban's past as a bandit is revealed along with his father figure. The Commandments are on the move and Ban is reunited with Elaine. The Sins also start their search for Escanor, the last Sin and apparently the strongest including Meliodas. It was a really good volume.

The Ten Commandments have dispersed and the Seven Deadly Sins are scrambling to deal with their new pest problem...all except Ban who's still trying to resurrect Elaine.

Get ready for tears and sadness and a bit of amusing banter.

This series has 41 volumes.

“ Hai trovato l’amico perfetto”

I really enjoyed learning Ban's backstory and seeing Elaine come back to life. Even when she's trying to kill someone, her interactions with Ban are amazing. Easily the best couple in the series! Only thing holding this volume back is the Ten Commandments. I know I've been griping about these villains, but I can't help it. Aside from some of their cool designs, like the one wrapped in tentacles and Monspeet, they are annoying, uninteresting, unmemorable, obnoxious group of individuals I've ever met. None of them have anything going for them personality wise (they either have no personality or one character trait that they milk til it's bone dry) and the group dynamic is abysmal. Aside from Monspeet and Derieri (I think that's their name?) all they do is bicker, dump exposition, and hold strategy meetings. That's it. Tell me again why I'm supposed to care whenever they make an appearance? I have no idea whether they are recurring villains or not, but if I'm stuck with them for the rest of the series, I'm so screwed.

Not all that much action for once, but the emotion here really takes it home. Ban's full backstory and his relationship with Zhivago was very touching. Arguably it's the most emotional part of the entire manga so far. Even though he passes away at the end, it's almost like a happy ending for both of them.

The more I read Ban and Jericho sections as well the more I actually think Ban and Jericho genuinely do make sense as a couple. I would love for there to be a story arc of Ban accepting that Elaine is dead and moving on, which would be a healthy lesson to impart on the reader. I know we won't get that though.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised by Ban's performance against the commandments. His power set has arguably been the least explored and is probably the most equipped to deal with opponents so overwhelmingly stronger than him, so it's good to see him shine here.

The timeline is getting messy again though. Now, allegedly, Ban should be well into his 30s or 40s by now, despite us being told right at the start that he's 27.

This was by far my favorite volume. It had a lot of Ban and the reader learns more about his past. While he is trying to find a way to revive Elaine with Jericho's help, Ban encounters his father figure Zhivago and the reader finally learns more about his story. Poor Ban, he had such a difficult time since he was a child and I couldn't help feeling so sad for him and for what happened to him when he was just a kid. By the end of the novel, Ban is finally reunited with Elaine, however, Elaine is brought back to life by the Ten Commandments. Because of this, she is corrupted to act on her main regret.

Volumen divertido.

Absolutely love the anime so figured I would give the manga a shot, and boy was I half I did. The manga is, in my opinion, far superior to the already outstanding anime. If you like the anime and story of The Seven Deadly Sins, give the manga a go, you won't be sorry.

I sobbed during Ban's backstory. It makes what happened to Elaine even worse knowing how hard his childhood was.

Jericho is the one holy night that I truly actually like in females..maybe I do like gill a little but they have such less impact on the story they are kinda easily forgotten.

Zhivago is the best TT___TT
Ban's backstory got me so sad and is such an amazing way of giving us an insight of what made Ban himself.
