Status Zero is the fourth novel in Granelli's back catalogue, and was widely acclaimed when it was originally released in hardback and then paperback. It charts the dramatic rites of passage of Mark Richards, a wild and disaffected teenager living in a deprived Welsh valley. Mark is a petty thief and burglar who has been traumatised by the mystery of the disappearance of his young brother Shane, which has never been solved. Mark is finally caught by the police and ends up in a young offender's prison, where his life is turned around when he develops a fascination with whales and the sea, which becomes his saviour. Status Zero is shot full of fast moving action, with dramatic set pieces and vivid dialogue and it sets the scene for the further history of Mark Richards, which Granelli develops in Dead Pretty and then The Lost Ones, which completes the award-winning Mark Richards trilogy. These books follow Mark's progress into adulthood and his further adventures as a private eye.
