"While I share your contempt for this situation in which we find ourselves, do not mistake it as apathy," he hissed through gritted teeth, dark eyes burning. "I hardly expect your disposition to sweeten, but I will be damned if I allow my future Empress to behave in a manner that reflects poorly on me and on the First Order!"
"If you allow?" She wrenched her arm out of his viselike grasp, batting his hand away for good measure. "I don't belong to you. I don't belong to anyone."
"That might have been the case back when you were a scavenger on that pitiful scrap heap of a planet, but now?" His sardonic gaze flickered over her silk robes and the jewels woven through her elaborate braids. "Now you are the Chume'da, and the Chume'da belongs to her people. Their fate is entirely in your hands. Should you cross the line, it is they who will suffer for it. Am I making myself clear?"
"I hate you," she said bitterly.
He sneered at her. "See? Already you are acclimatizing so well to married life."
It is 69 chapters long and 35,6078 words so it's the biggest book I've read all year.
And it's amazing, super well-researched and I highly recommend you read this if you're a a Rey & Kylo fan and were left heartbroken and disappointed after TROS. JJ Abrams could never.
Will you defend yourself? From me, I mean. Let’s kill something. The mind moves forward, the paint layers up: glop glop and shellac. I shovel the color into our faces, I shovel our faces into our faces. They look like me. I move them around. I prefer to blame others, it’s easier. King me.

This fanfiction was among the top-rated works in the Star Wars fandom on Archive of Our Own before the author secured a publishing deal, leading to the removal of this piece from the platform. Over the years, fanfiction has often been criticized. Although there are indeed poorly written and overrated fanfiction stories that have inexplicably achieved fame and even film adaptations, there are also exceptional writers and narratives that surpass many published books I have encountered throughout my life.
Landscape with a Blur of Conquerors transcends the typical, smutty fiction prevalent in the fanfiction community. It is skillfully crafted, articulately written, and features a compelling plot with well-developed characters. The Star Wars franchise continues to enjoy immense popularity, attracting new fans daily. Regardless of one's opinions on the sequel trilogy (which I also critique), it has introduced several iconic characters, notably Kylo Ren and Rey. Their chemistry is as evident in this narrative as it is in the films, and fortunately, we have authors who have expanded upon their relationship in ways that the film directors did not. The films missed a significant opportunity to create more captivating story arcs for these characters, as there was a wealth of untold stories waiting to be explored.
In summary, this was an extensive and intricate reading experience that I found highly enjoyable.

Am I reviewing a fic...on goodreads??? yes...yes I am. The depth of research gone into this and the dedication to characterization & coherent writing is STUNNING and deserves to be recognized.
why am I including a 356,000+ word Reylo fic? Because I appreciate how deeply researched it is, how big, and how the author managed to make it work for so long.
I read the final 10 chapters which I'd been saving until the story was complete, and my goodness it was a tear jerking, emotional rollercoaster of an ending.
Thea (the author of LWABOC) is a total Star Wars lore goddess. It's a shame they didn't get her to write The Rise of Skywalker, it would have been a million times better than the awful travesty that we got. Thank goodness for fanfic to heal my broken heart.
This isn’t fan fiction, this is a goddamn master piece. Perfect doesn’t even compare to what this book was, I wish I could give it more than five stars, it deserves about 10+++ Emotional, angsty and romantic 🥺 if you haven’t read this and your a fan of Reylo I seriously don’t know what your doing. Don’t be scared by the word count, it’s long but so worth it in the end. I actually never wanted it to finish that’s how good it was. Pick this book up and get ready to not eat, sleep or talk. Hands down my FAVOURITE BOOK OF ALL TIME
Yeah, it's fanfic, but it's 3 or 4 novels'-worth of amazing fanfic! And I've been reading like 3 days straight. This thing has 500,000 reads and it's totally worth it. Going down with this ship, lol. I'm glad someone had the presence of mind to enter this into goodreads. Also a million points for details, research, characters, and lemons. 😁
*note: I don't read much fanfic (though if I'd discovered it younger, who knows who I'd be now, especially since I wrote piles of it in my head as a kid/teen) - so take this review with a grain of salt!*
Finally read this because a dear friend loved it and raved about it, and thank goodness, I can still trust said friend's taste! ;)
Overall, I enjoyed it! The characters are mostly familiar, and tbh, it felt like a comfort considering what I know of the last canon SW movie. Some twists and turns (though I'm not sure all were necessary) and satisfying tropes kept me moving along, though - dare I say it? - I think there was a bit too much sex in it for my preference. I started to get a tiny bit bored - it just interrupted the pacing for me, and while each incident did seem to try to impact the rest of their relationship, it sometimes felt a little repetitive. And this thing is LONG - maybe part of my relief at the final battles (other than the tension) was that I knew it was coming to an end!
The main thing that decreased my enjoyment, though, is that I do think that Rey's characterization is off. I get that the story was trying to portray her maturing (politicking time!) and then coming into her own (oops went too far, now to find the middle ground!), but I thought she became comfortable with fancy ballgowns and all *gestures at everything* too easily, and she becomes very teary in the second half. Kylo's characterization was more consistent, I think.
While there are many references to particular blasters, space ships, etc, a lot of it really does feel like a historical romance; I eventually got bored by the extensive descriptions of Rey's clothing. I can see it being more fun in a serial mode of reading, especially where you can click to see the inspo, etc, but I was reading it on an ereader and it really slowed down the pacing.
(also, lol at how it riffs on LOTR and
Overall, would I recommend? Yeah! Especially if you like romance, Star Wars, historical romance, any kind of combination of the above.
I also strongly recommend listening to a Star Wars playlist while you read it - there are even some Landscape with a Blur of Conquerors ones on Spotify. :)
This is my first time ever reading fanfiction. My sister recommended it as I'm quite a SW addict and I was utterly disappointed by the last movie and the lame treatment of the protagonists. I was impressed here by the high quality of the writing, the story keeps getting interesting and addictive, the descriptions are immersive and I still have in mind a lot of the beautiful sceneries and places described. The protagonists are perfect, the characterization for Rey and Ben is higly respectful, coherent and full of love for them, you feel the admiration of the author for both the characters and their interpreters. I had some trouble memorizing names of new characters but some of them were very well personified and interesting. The plot was classic but so well written and developped that it got me hooked for the whole 1000 pages. I really feel I had here the conclusion I expected and I feel much better for my beloved protagonists.
In the midst of pandemic and while in quarantine i'm so glad to have stumbled on this beautiful amazing story https://archiveofourown.org/works/114... by Diasterisms; a fanfic writer. tbh, I'm not even a Star Wars fan nor REYLO shipper, i also not one for fanfic reader but this story was worth taking the chance on. A stunning piece of writing. I almost believe its a novel not FIC!
PS : try reading LWABOC while listening this Reylo Love Theme https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7JGe5GA... its has sci-fi themed song so is very fitting for Star Wars especially for reylo song that inspired an entire fic.
Yes, the first story I'm shelving as read in 2023 is a reylo fanfic🙈😏
At this point I don't even know why I'm surprised that a fanfic again had the power to consume me utterly, had the power to leave me a weeping swooning mess of emotions. Not only is the writing captivating but the plot is also fleshed out so well. Every loophole is caught, every smudge of ink is erased until you are presented with this perfection of a story which steals your breath and replaces it with awe.
I think I'm going to start making a list of all the fanfic authors I personally want to go to and kiss their hands for writing such beautiful pieces. This author will definitely top the list💓
"I can't imagine the galaxy without you, Rey," Kylo admitted. His voice was oddly small even to his own ears, muffled against her robes. "Everything was so hollow until you came along. I'd been fighting my whole life, consumed by a singular purpose, and there you were— making me laugh, making me see red, making my heart race, making me feel at peace. Sometimes all of that in the span of five minutes." He shook his head in wonder. "When I was with you I felt like I could be more than just a weapon. I could be just a man who adored his wife." He was shaking now, his teeth clenched in a grimace that he'd futilely hoped would rein in his sobs. He couldn't remember having wept like this before. Not for anything. Not for anyone else. "Let me make it up to you," he begged. "Let me build the world you wanted."
Wow....just wow. A straight up masterpiece - I genuinely think the author is a professional writer because this story was better than 90% of the "real" books I've read. If someone didn't believe fanfics could create heartfelt story arcs that develop painfully realistic and powerful relationships, I would shove this book in their hand and say "read".
I just finished rereading this one and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it has an entry here on GoodReads. I wouldn't normally add fanfic to my feed here, but this one is a definite exception. It's certainly long enough to qualify as a book (or perhaps a series of them) and is one of the best Star Wars stories I've ever read. The author definitely knows the lore and has done a LOT of research, weaving the extensive existing worldbuilding flawlessly into her story, including incorporating things that showed up in the movies after she started writing it. She also did a marvelous job in her treatment of both the Original Trilogy and Sequel Trilogy characters.
I understand why the story has disappeared from the internet and I very recently managed to track down a copy of her original novel, which I am very much looking forward to reading, but I do think it's a shame that this fanfic version is no longer available for people to read. It was the one I recommended the most to my Star Wars loving friends.
So, I'm putting this on my goodreads. A fanfic, yes. Good God, how dare me put a fanfic on my reading list. WELL, hear me out.
IT'S A GREAT FANFIC. Having 70 chapters with a word count of 362850, this book, for me is a novel. I started reading this last year, but I had to stop because it wasn't finished until this year. And let me tell you it's one of the greatest fics I've read.
So of course I'm adding it to my list. Interesting plot, a couple I love, my children being happy and alive, the right amount of angst and porn, arranged marriage, political shenanigans, and GOOD action scenes, well COUNT ME EXCITED.
One of the oldest and greatest Reylo fanfics in the internet. Thank you Diasterisms.
Diasterisms use of Star Wars AU lore is nothing short of Legendary. Landscape With a Blur of Conquerors is hands down the best fan fiction I have ever read. This Star Wars AU is enemies to lovers meets marriage of convenience. Rey of Jakku, a rebel fighter, is forced into a political marriage with none other than Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. Somewhere between the fighting and madness, they find love during their honeymoon. Only Rey has a secret that could jeopardize her relationship and steady alliance with Kylo Ren.
This fan fiction has now been completely reworked into an original novel titled The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon. I highly recommend you check it out upon release. It is sure to be a fan favorite for all who enjoy fantasy and romance!
Excellent exceptional and so bittersweet. This monster of a book (1200pages) was read in 2 days time... I didn't want it to to end but couldn't tear my eyes off of it. The amount of research and sourcing that went into the even the minute details... off wordly Truly a work of love, and it's for free...
Dare I say, the absolute best Reylo fic I've read to date?? I realize that this is what I wanted for the sequels tbh. I cannot wait to read the published book version of this!!!!!
The way she used Isolder and Hapes as Rey's origin story was *chef's kiss*. The Courtship of Princess Leia was my favorite Star Wars Extended Universe novel.

I have never reviewed fics on goodreads but this one deserves it. Also it's novel-length so it should count for my reading challenge this year. And it's so well-written and researched? If someone published it I would buy all the copies.
It’s been a hot minute since I stayed up until 5am reading fanfiction. I’m in love with this story.
The author clearly knows what they are talking about and detail is exquisite. The original characters were amazing. This really was like reading 3 books in 1. With a HEA for Reylo—they got there eventually!

Not a massive star wars fan but the book was pretty amazing and one of the best reads this year. The research that went into this book is immense as it is 2500 pages of such good world building.
OhHhhOhh my god. Slay the house down boots houston im deceased. This would be on c-nt tier if had halfway decent cover art but the ones available ***make me cringe.*** (6/1/23 edit - i dont care, I am making it c-nt tier anyway.)
Is it better than Manacled? Maybe.
God, fanfics just always SLAP. SLAP I tell you.
I am not every a huge SW fan. Like I've seen all the movies but it was not my thing. THIS is my thing. This rocks. Wow. It feels weird, because I am not even sad it's over. I am just so content. Total fan service and I am here for it. Why can't more authors be this way? I gobbled 1600 pages up in 2 days. I just couldn't stop.
I've heard this is becoming its own published book under a new name/characters. Interested to see what that looks like. But it will never upstage this. <3333333
