Zane has his sights set on the odd little woman with her funny rules. When their first kiss doesn’t end well, he can't understand why she won't give him a second chance. Now he’s seriously determined to make her see they can be explosive together.
Lettie has always believed a kiss will determine how the relationship will go. Her disastrous lip-lock with Zane is a strong indication she's not moving forward with him. He won't take no for an answer, though, and does the sweetest things to change her mind, including opening his home to over fifty animals while she cleans up the smoke damage at the local shelter.
Sparks fly as Lettie does her level best to extinguish their attraction to one another. At the same time, Zane is doing all he can to fan those sparks into flames.
Anne has written her entire life and has the boxes of angst-filled journals and poetry to prove it. She’s been writing for public consumption for the past several years. She lives in rural East Texas with her husband and children in her own private oasis, where she prides herself in her complete lack of social skills, choosing instead to live with the people inside her head.
Currently, she has five romance series. Playing with Fire explores the trials and tribulations of a small team of fire fighters in the fictional mountain town of Pamona Gulch. In Pierce Securities, she gives us Ryan, Evan, Miriam, Zack, Quinten, Jordan, Hollerman, and Simon. Her favorite series, Book B!tches, is all about a group of women in Mystic, Texas who get into all sorts of shenanigans. In Stories of Serendipity, she explores real people living real lives in small town Texas in a contemporary romance setting. In The Four Winds, she chronicles God’s four closest archangels, Uriel, Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael, falling in love and becoming human.
With life spinning out of control… one man becomes your direction and centre.
Lettie has been stung and hurt badly by past relationships. It’s easier to test and push people away before she suffers further emotional pain. Her thoughts are a constant overflow of over thinking and self doubt. Yet, she has confidence in what she knows factually, she just doesn’t quite know how to fit all that knowledge into her interactions with others. That’s so sad but so realistic! Given the chance, and in his capable an oh so right hands, Zane keeps pushing her boundaries, that her less than stellar behaviours and quirky comments, are no match against their incendiary togetherness.
Add the adorable bonds of pets and animals from the shelter - OMG its a recipe that is sure to capture your heart. Those bonds can break the reserves and walls around your heart. It wasn’t just the addition of animals into the story …it was the realistic behaviours that have you laughing and cringing at the same time… that having animals in a house can often times cause mayhem and destruction even though we love them to pieces.
Ann gives you yet another fabulous glimpse of everyday life , You can’t help but be swept up inside it’s realism and drama. It’s light-hearted, it’s fun, it’s dramatic, it’s heat and sexiness and the banter will pull on your emotions. This is SPIN THE BOTTLE. Read what it will take to bring two wonderful, caring, stubborn and vulnerable souls together. Join Zane and Lettie, share in their journey.
Could that be all? Of course not! Anne ramps up the nefarious arson activity at play… I’m still wondering just how that snippet from Book 2 evolves… or should it have been more? Is your interest piqued? Yes? - you’ve got to keep reading this series to see how it all plays out… If you haven’t started… go back to the beginning. It’s turning out to be a whole lot of serious, yet tenderhearted, fun reading this series. I can’t wait for Bk 4 to see how this series concludes :)
I think this is my favourite book out of this series so far. You can so relate to Lettie.
Lettie meets Zane whilst doing a charity firemans and adopt a pet calender.
Zane see Lettie working with the animals at the fire house, whilst watching the photo shoot. Although attracted to her it seems it's one sided. Till he sees her watching his shoot. The shoot which ends up with him adopting a dog called Otis.
He finds Lettie adorable. He senses she needs gentle handling.
Lettie has been let down before. So she devises a kiss test.
When she kisses Zane the kiss was good but how it ended although no ones fault makes Letties decide that a date is not worth perusing.
However she has met her match Zane is nothing if not persistent. A fire, a house full of animals and a little luck Zane may win out yet.
This was a really sweet tug of war story. With a woman who second guesses herself and who is unsure how relationships work. This actually was a refreshing look at a story. Because although she has ideas of what she wants forming them in a way to be understood is hard for her.
Cannot wait for Logan's and Kate's story.

One of my favorite things about Anne is that she keeps me on my toes. I have mentioned I love this series, but to be honest, I was not looking forward to Zane. I felt he was immature and generally a pest. I have never been so happy to be wrong. Zane is sucker punched when he meets Lettie and she doesn’t fall at his feet when they share an awesome kiss. Lettie is highly committed to following her rules. Anne once again out does herself with this series (I am sooo sorry my Pierce boys). I love how we get a surprise visit. And as the very head honcho president of Logan’s Fan Club, read to the end. You won’t regret it.
You know when you start a book and instantly know your gonna love it? That’s this book.
I loved book two in this series but I love Zane and Lettie just that little bit more. Lettie is completely relatable, you either have a little Lettie in you (or in my case a lot!) or you know someone who does, I love her! I like that we saw Zane be vulnerable, he’s always been the joker in the previous books.
I think the best part about this book, besides the whole HEA and the story line and all that, is the animals. I love it when there are animals in a book. This one has a bunch of them. The romance between Lettie and Zane doesn't start out very well when their first kiss leaves a lot to be desired. Then, there is trouble at the animal shelter and Zane offers his home to house the animals until the damage is repaired. I thought that was sweet of him. This series is one of my favorites. I think the Pierce Brothers will always be my number one favorite, but this one is a very close second. I'm ready for the next book!
Oh Lettie.... how I love her so. I think this is my fav book in the series!! One of my favourite things about this series is that the characters are so relatable. It’s as if your reading a text from your friend about what happened with them, but Lettie I think is my fav female in this series!! Where Katie is still working my nerves, however I think once we get to her story I may grow to like her. LIKE her not LOVE her lol
A FLAMING HOT STORY WITH AN EXCEPTIONAL HERO AND A HEROINE I LIKED EVER SO MUCH! These Playing With Fire stories are SO EFFING ENTERTAINING. And I LOVED Spin The Bottle. Zane is hottie but I honestly expected him, with his arrogance to be a little self centered. Heck, that is the impression I basically had of him from the previous books, but my goodness, what a surprise he turned out to be. When Lettie doesn't give in to him right away, I found myself enamored with the way Zane starts to slowly seduce Lettie, getting under her skin in such an appealing way I couldn't help but to end up loving Zane. And Lettie...she is spectacular! She is so bright, bold, beautiful, smart and she is exactly what Zane needs. Fireworks definitely exploded between these two and I sure as heck enjoyed the sparks!
This romance is perfect. The story is flawless and there were even a few surprises that I thoroughly enjoyed. This is one romantic, fun and entertaining romp I HIGHLY recommend to ALL my reader friends! Anne Conley doesn't mess around when it comes to entertaining romances.
Spin the Bottle gets a FLAMING HOT FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
Another great read by Mrs Conley. Spin The Bottle is Book 3 in the Playing With Fire series.
Lettie pretty much runs an animal shelter that is currently teaming up with the firehouse bin town to produce a calendar. Sexy, oiled up half dressed men posing with sweet fluffy kittens and puppies!!! Amazing way to raise funds and get foot traffic into the shelter. As soon as Zane spots Lettie, he immediately wants to get to know her but she doesn’t give him the time of day. He decides to adopt one of the puppies and by doing that it opens a line of communication between them.
Zane has to unexpectedly go out of town for a few days and no one is able to watch his new puppy Otis so his last resort was to ask Lettie. Now she is staying in his house dog sitting and sleeping in Zane’s bed. Zane gets to skype with her at night and talk to Otis too. It’s quite cute actually.
Lettie doesn’t like people and doesn’t have any friends. Finally she meets Katie at a bar ( which happens to be the bar the firemen from the photo shoot go to) and whole Zane is Skyping that night he sees something that makes him see red!!!
Zane and Lettie end up becoming friends but things are weird for a bit. When Lettie really needs him will he be able to come through for her? She needs him for more then one thing. When a man finds a woman he really likes, there’s really nothing he won’t do for her.
This book had me hooked from the first page. Cannot waitnfor the last book in this series.
Lettie doesn’t fall at Zane's feet when they share their first kiss. Lettie is committed to following her rules for life and love which is so like my daughter. I could see my daughter doing and saying the same things Lettie did and said. Those rules were not supposed to be broken. Zane oh man he got hit by a 2x4 upside the head when he locked lips with Lettie. He was a gone man after the first kiss. Will Zane be able to win Lettie over slowly but surely? Will Lettie see that sometimes some rules need to be bent a little?
Having been hurt in the past, Lettie has devised a "kiss test" in order to determine if a relationship will be successful or not. In theory, it makes sense, but our hearts and emotions aren't ruled by theory. They're ruled by emotions, feelings-things that can get messy. After suffering from another disappointing relationship, Lettie is given the opportunity to start fresh in Pamona Gulch as the director of the area animal shelter. Animals, Lettie understands. People, not so much.
Pamona Gulch Fire Department has partnered with the animal shelter to sell calendars. Zane, a firefighter in Pamona Gulch, has volunteered to model for the calendar. Upon arriving for his photo shoot, Zane's attention is immediately captured by Lettie. When she kisses him and it ends in disaster, she tells Zane they aren't meant to be. Challenge accepted!
Zane's never felt such a pull to another woman as he's more of a "player". One kiss from Lettie and he knows she's the one. He just has to convince her. When the shelter suffers damage due to an arsonist, Zane opens up his home to Lettie and her animals--all 50 of them! Although Lettie knows in her heart that Zane is different, she can't leave her doubts behind...
Spin The Bottle is the third novel in the Playing With Fire series. It was by far my favorite! While it is a stand alone novel, the underlying story of an arsonist is introduced in the first novel. So, I would encourage one to read the series in order. I loved Zane's caring heart. It was cute that he wanted to "bond" with his new puppy over Skye and had a nightly date with his puppy while out of town. When Zane's alpha side came out at the shelter, I was elated (and needed a cold shower)! Subtle obviously didn't work with Lettie! Lettie was truly deserving of a HEA and new girlfriends! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
SPIN THE BOTTLE is the third book in the Playing with Fire series. Though each stands on its own for the romance component, they will be need to be read in the order of release due to the continuing story of the arsonist.
The part of Lettie that I most relate to is her duality. She is emotional and logical. She is constantly trying to apply understanding and knowledge to relationships after allowing her heart to rule to previous hurts. She knows when it comes to the furry critters that the heart can lead you to the best one for you, but she is forgetting that men are just two-footed furry critters.
I love her devotion to the animals in her charge at the shelter. I love that Zane wants to improve himself for her. His immediate attraction is recognized as more than lust and that made me cheer him on from the beginning.
In the second plot – the arson – there are more clues and conjectures. Will they lead us to the correct person or are they false leads?
I’ll admit that I’ve already read the final book. I know the answer… I recommend you read the series and follow those clues. Yikes! The twists will turn you upside down!
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: SPIN THE BOTTLE Series: Playing with Fire #3 Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused Received from: Anne Conley (as an ARC gifted copy)
This one starts out differently than the first two in the Playing with Fire series—with some mystery/crime drama, so I’m hooked right away. This installment is for Zane and Lettie; Zane is damaged but he’s mostly got handle on it… and he is delicious. Lettie runs an animal shelter so what’s not to love there?
There’s no shortage of cuteness with all the animals involved in this one and lots of laughing out loud happened for me. Conley did a good job of keeping it rooted in reality, even for this long-time animal hospital worker.
Zane and Lettie fall fast and hard, but there’s still no shortage of drama along the way. Without spoiling it, I’ll simply say it’s really satisfying. :) Conley also sets up a mystery, so as if Katie and Logan didn’t torture us enough while we wait for their story, there’s even more reason to need Hot Lava.
Three books in, I’m still completely addicted to this entire cast, and the town itself.
The editing and proofing are professional and the formatting is gorgeous; the interior is in great shape.
Zane and the other firemen were doing a calendar shoot with animals from a shelter.... Lettie nwas the animal handler for the shelter... They took and instant liking to each other, but Lettie just wasn't about to get involved with a pretty boy fireman.... As he showed interest, she decided to use her kissing rule on him....to say the least, it was a disaster! She swore off of him, but by no means was he giving up on her...he even let her use his home as a make shift shelter just to prove to her he wasn't out for a one nighter. These two are cute... I enjoyed reading their story and look forward to the next installment of this series.
This is Zane and Lettie’s book. This is the 3rd book in this series. This story is such a down to earth, everyday normal, kind of story. Lettie has 1 rule. How a kiss goes is how the relationship goes. Her past relationships have lived up to her rule too, cementing how flawless it is. The first time Zane kisses her, disaster followed. She kept him at arms length after that. He slowly but surely breaks down her walls and she starts to see him as a good guy. Then the arsonist strikes again.
Can Zane save Lettie? Will they have their HEA? Does Zane get an animal of his very own?
Read to find out these answers! I could NOT put this book down!!
This was another great book by Anne Conley. Oh, Lettie. Judging a relationship by a first case? That’s not going to work. You knew there was going to be a good story and kissing scene with that type of test. Lettie thinks she can keep Zane at arm’s length after a disastrous first kiss, but Zane felt differently. His world changed after that kiss, and he will not be letting Lettie go. It was funny reading everything Zane was willing to do to impress Lettie. There was so much humor at part, but it was also scorching hot! This is a great addition to the series, and you will not be disappointed! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
Absolutely in love with this series, read this book I. Just one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. Lettie is skittish about relationships but Zane doesn’t give up. He knows what he wants, he knows Lettie is worth everything and he wants to “wife her”. I grinned hugely when I read that phrase. Great series, best to start with the first in the series and then follow with the rest in order. Looking forward to Logan’s story.
The thing I love about The Playing with Fire series is that with every book you get to know more and more of the characters and you can't WAIT for their stories... THAT is exactly what it was like with Spin the Bottle for me... Lettie and Zane may have had an abnormal start to their relationship but that doesn't stop Zane from SEEKING what Lettie is HIDING from.... Loved this story, not too much drama and its hot and steamy scenes are enough to make you need a cold shower...
Zane is a sizzling hot firefighter with a huge family and Lettie is a loner, only being in town for 2 months. Zane has to figure out how to get her to let him in after a disastrous first kiss. Problem is, she bases her relationships on that first kiss. A Calender shoot and an Animal Shelter seem to be just what these two need.
