This is a turbulent romance between Rewn and Melanie/Mel. The story is beautifully described. When it describes the human realm or the dragon realm, it is easy to visualize the imagery. This book is a runoff from Angel Black's previous books, Domus and Valonis, The Ancient Blood Awakens series. It's nice to read about previous characters from those books. I feel like the two main characters both were equal in the Hero category. One never outshining the other but complementing each other. The H/h both have strong personalities and inner strength. They both have survived lives they did not want. But the important thing is that in different ways they have survived. I like the way the book describes Mel and I quote from the book "Like the frame of the hotel, Mel had had a strong backbone. She could get torn up, knocked around, and taken advantage of. But just like the motel, she was still standing." When Mel was very young, she got thrown into the foster care system. Then a few years later, her foster mom sold her to a dirty man. She ran away when she was just a young teen and has never looked back. I felt very sad reading about Mel's life. She is a scrapper. She knows how to take care of herself and although she has been through a lot, she still has a compassionate side. She still has hope for a better tomorrow. Rewn was from a low-ranking noble home in the dragon realm. His parents planned his life and made decisions for him which he despised. But he went along with them. He always thought they did it because in their own way they loved him. But he got bored with everything and would venture into the human world. He was fond of drinking, gambling and womanizing. When Mel and Rewn met, sparks flew. Mel was running from a notorious underworld character that she owed money to. It seemed to me she got tricked into losing her money but you can make up your own mind when you read the book. Anyway, Rewn saves Mel not once but twice the evening they met. Rewn for some unknown reason felt protective of Mel and took her to his hideaway in the dragon realm for safety. Mel and Rewn became very close and got to know each other better and the chemistry between them was off the charts. If you have read Angel's previous books you know there is a problem with the dragon nation. The female dragons can no longer reproduce and some of the male dragons have found their life mate in the human realm. However, the female humans are a point of serious contention among the male dragons. It is quite dangerous for a human female to be in the dragon realm. Some want to own them and try to reproduce with them. These male dragons cannot accept the fact that the human females will only reproduce with their life mate. Even though it is against dragon law to abduct and sell human females, it is still being done secretly. Rewn was keeping Mel as safe as he could and he tried to explain what was happening in his world and if anything happened to her, how to best deal with it. When Mel's time to return to her world she did not want to leave Rewn. She wished they could stay together. But she knew that she could not because of the danger. Rewn also did not want to give up Mel. He had gotten close to her and did not want to lose her. When the day came for her to return, (heavy sigh) it was indeed a very sad day for both. When they reached the portal back to the human realm, they were caught by evil guards. One of the guards told Rewn he no longer had a claim on his human, that the human now belonged to him. So, they abducted her. This was the beginning of the torture Mel would undergo and Rewn's realization that she was more than just a friend to him. The evil guards ensnared Rewn with a silver dipped rope trap. Rewn screamed in pain. Before they dragged Mel away he told her "play the game" and that he would find her. Mel held on to his promise. She would need it for the abuse she would later endure. The story gets even more active from this point. There are confrontations, fights to the death and a need to help the other human females abducted. This is a very good read. The Dragons are having infertility issues in their realm and they found out that human women who are their true mates can breed hybrid dragons so some of the dragons are stealing human women and using them as human pets to breed with while other dragons are trying to stop them.
Mel a pool hustler, is living in New Orleans working in a bar going by the name Vanessa when she makes a bet against Rewn who's visiting the Human Realm because he's bored with his life as a guard in the gardens of the royal palace. While playing they flirt and tease each other and there's a attraction simmering between them. Grange a bookie, and his crew shows up looking for Mel who she owns money to, so Rewn helps her escape and says he's has a place she can hide. He takes her to a portal to his Dragon Realm which he shows what he is and takes her to his hidden tree house in the forest. Our couple gets closer during the week she stays with Rewn but when they try to return to the portal, they get caught by the palace guards. Mel is taken to be sold as a human pet and Rewn is taken to be locked up but his father saves him. His parents wants him to forget about Mel and mate with one of their kind. Does Rewn save Mel from being a human pet? This is the third book in this series not counting "Falon" that you can download. They are all well written stories about gorgeous dragon shifters finding strong independent human women that they fall in love with. There is steamy romance, battles for action, touches of humor, and drama and that kept me entertained throughout this story. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.

The story of Rewn and Mel is another that I would recommend to those who love paranormal romance but more I would recommend it to anyone who likes romance. Not to say that the story can be placed in any world and it would be the same but that it is so well written that most anyone will enjoy reading these stories.
Rewn is a dragon shifter who is curious about Earth. With rather traditional parents he wants to follow his heart. He meets Mel, a human woman who he helps when it turns out she is being hunted by some shady characters. In order to protect her, they go back to his world and hide out. They are fine until they are discovered by royals who want human women to procreate.
I love this series. They are true stand alone books and though they contain information that was shared in previous stories, it is explained so there is no confusion. It has action, romance and humor.

First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story. I have read the prequel, Falon & book 1, Valonis now this one so I’m missing book 2, Domus and I’ll have to remedy that shortly. Anyhoo on to the review.
Rewn, from the dragon realm, is on guard duty to keep humans from coming through the portal, and is totally bored out of his mind. He decides to go through the portal to Earth to see if it’s as bad as he’s being told it is. He meets Mel. Mel is a strong, independent, street smart girl, and she attempts to hustle Rewn in pool. She’s in danger from some guy that she owes money to and Rewn feeling protective drags her to the dragon realm. All hell breaks loose. This story is gr8. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up

Chapter one is an interesting start to this story. Why? Because Marie DeBier, the female lead, is warned that “de green-eyed demon be comin’ for ya”. A second warning is also given to her; …” stay close to the Green-Eyed Warrior.” On face value the warnings seem opposing. Rewn appears in the first chapter, and has very green eyes. Marie, aka Vanessa, is a pool shark using her skills to move past the life she was dealt. Rewn goes to the human realm to get a break from his drab life in Pax Gloria, and the frustration of how to stop the illegal practice of some of the dragons enslaving human females for sex which he strongly opposes. Marie is strong and capable. Rewn is a strong and capable dragon, but still going through some rebelliousness (he is only a century young). Rewn saves Marie from a couple hairy situations, and Marie’s love helps Rewn to mature past his rebelliousness.

This was amazing! The books in this series are very addictive. Each one just keeps immersing you into a world that is both fantastical and terrifying at the same time. This series is well worth losing yourself in. Rewn and Mel had a tangible chemistry from the start. Even though they both know their time must come to an end, neither want to admit it. Passion that goes beyond the imaginable will turn into a fear for each others safety. The action is fast and hard. The romance is strong. Nothing will stop these two in the journey to a HEA. I loved the addition of the 'Afterword'. Definitely a series you will fully enjoy and wait anxiously for more.

I haven't read this author before so I thought I would give
his books ago. Boy I wasn't sorry I did.
I found the way this book was written it took you on the journey
with the main character.
Rewn is dragon who has come through a porthole because he was looking
for some excitement.
Mel is a human who has hadn't very hard life and doing things she had to.
When Mel first saw Rewn she was going to con him but it ended up Rewn
saving her. If you want to know what happens grab this book because you
will not be disappointed in the plot characters or the book.

This is a very well written and entertaining storyline involving Rewn, the dragon shifter, and Mel, his human female. He saves her in her world and takes her back to his world, expecting to only keep her there for a few days and then return her. Events happen, she is kidnapped, auctioned and abused by another dragon. The book is full of danger, drama and romance. This is a great story and well worth reading. I would highly recommend it along with the two earlier books in this series.

The dragons have infertility issues in their own realm and human women may be an option for continuing their species. However, some unscrupulous royals have entered sex slavery to acquire women for the highest bidders and quite disadvantageous to the captured human women. I liked how this book addressed the issue presented and how true mates Rewn and Melanie fight for their future and others.

Another Winner
OMG. I just love this series by Angel Black! So much goes on and it is witty and gritty at the same time. The characters are very well developed so the story just pulls you along. This plot hit me right in my solar plexus I was right there with the women in that ballroom, feeling their rage and helplessness. Melanie is a true survivor and her very essence just leaps off the pages. Great job Angel, I am a fan!

An excellent and well-written book about dragons having infertility issues and maybe human females are the answer. The story line is great and it's an easy and enjoyable read. You feel as if you're right there along with the characters, enduring the journey with them. Read this and you won't be disappointed.

A definite 5 star read!!! I was totally sucked into this book. It's sexy, thrilling and oh so sexy!!!! Best book in the series. It was fun, adventurous and hot!

Yeah Well...I had some problems tot keep my focus & keep ready, cause for me it was not my usual read, so I find that it was kind of slow pace. But after keeping trying, I found it interesting, can't say it was captivating or exciting. Meanwhile, It was a Nice read to change my minds in between books.

Rewn: The Ancient Blood Awakens is the first book by Angel Black that I have read. I enjoyed the story line as it was so well written it draws you into the story and keeps you turning pages until the end. Both of the main characters (Rewn and Mel) are made for each other. I loved experiencing their story along with them. I now need to read the first two books in this series.

Excellent story. I enjoy this realm. Very unique story base. I've read all the books and I would love for this series to continue. Plus it would be great to see how done I'd the slavery parts end up.

After 4 books, inclusive of Falon, the plots are becoming predictable.

I loved the story of Melanie and Rewn so much I read it in one sitting. The characters were so perfect for each other and I loved that Melanie was so strong. I look forward to the next book and hope one day there is a story with a female dragon finding a soul mate.

Mel dressed in her “barfly” outfit to head to work, stopping to see Jolene, the voodoo priestess, to get a reading with the Tarot cards. Her readings were usually accurate. Jolene warned her the green-eyed demon was coming for her – strange, jealousy usually wasn’t a problem for her?

Mel is a wonderful character, a tough, independent young woman who has had a hard life but never let it get her down. Her courage is inspiring and the reader will find it easy to admire and cheer for her. The story line was good, well-paced, and easily keeps the reader eager to find out what is going to happen. Mutual attraction sparks almost immediately, but Mel is in danger from an unsavory character that she owes money to. Rewn offers her safety... If she trusts him...
Wow, what a story! Loved the alpha male with his kicka** partner; a strong, level headed woman who knows exactly what she wants... Which is Rewn. But not everyone agrees, and the twists and turns keep you guessing! Lots of steamy sex scenes, so this book is meant for audiences of 18+.

Chapter one is an interesting start to this story. Why? Because Marie DeBier, the female lead, is warned that “de green-eyed demon be comin’ for ya”. A second warning is also given to her; …” stay close to the Green-Eyed Warrior.” On face value the warnings seem opposing. Rewn appears in the first chapter, and has very green eyes. Marie, aka Vanessa, is a pool shark using her skills to move past the life she was dealt. Rewn goes to the human realm to get a break from his drab life in Pax Gloria, and the frustration of how to stop the illegal practice of some of the dragons enslaving human females for sex which he strongly opposes. Marie is strong and capable. Rewn is a strong and capable dragon, but still going through some rebelliousness (he is only a century young). Rewn saves Marie from a couple hairy situations, and Marie’s love helps Rewn to mature past his rebelliousness.
