Oskar Quigley knows exactly when and how he’ll die.
Living with a death curse isn’t easy, but after generations of research handed down to him he thinks he knows how to defeat the Thomas, his great uncle and a witch gone bad who caused the problem. There’s just one thing he never accounted for: another victim.
Mylla has been Thomas’s servant for as long as she can remember, but her memories can’t be trusted. The marks on her wall add up to decades, and her diary is a muddled collection of rambling. When Oskar arrives to tend the gardens she needs to warn him that bad things happen, difficult when she can only talk on Thomas’ command. But she doesn’t need to talk to steal a few moments for herself in Oskar’s bed as she tries to convince him that magic is real.
With time running out and Thomas’s suspicions growing, Oskar is forced to act. But if living with a death curse is hard, learning to live is even harder.
Shona Husk lives in Western Australia at the edge of the Indian Ocean. Blessed with a lively imagination she spent most of her childhood making up stories.
This book was definitely not what I expected. The story started a bit slow for me but once it picked up I was unable to put it down. In a nutshell, Oskar is a witch (not to be confused with a wizard) set on a path to reverse a curse caused by his uncle wrong-doings. While on his mission, he meets Mylla, a shy, quiet maid that seems to know more than what she lets on. I really liked the world the author created. Oskar is part of a coven of witches but because of his family history he’s not allowed full “membership.” That added to his curse had put a damper on the way he’d lived his life so far. Even so, he wasn’t resentful nor did he act broodingly sulky, which while understandable, I would have hated. He was smart and cautious, and best of all, he was ever so patient and caring with Mylla.
About the book being slow, I think it's because I found that the main characters spent too much time inside their heads, as in they talked too much to themselves. Other than that I loved how Oskar and Mylla managed each of their situations, all through the end. Another thing that I liked was the fact that we get to learn about the coven, their members, and their special abilities all through Oskar’s thoughts and actions (I guess Oskar spending so much time inside his head wasn’t too bad after all). All in all it was a great read, and I totally recommend to fans of UF/PNR that don’t mind a little bit of steam (not much, mind you, and not too graphic) intertwined with a good story.

The first book in the ‘Coven of the Raven’ series is a stunning, original story that is full of thrills that readers can become lost to. The characters are strong and compelling, easily drawing readers in and keeping them engaged with their memorable story. The chemistry between sizzles with electricity but this relationship is in no way guaranteed as two major obstacles stand in their way – a death curse and an evil witch, which keeps the emotions turbulent and the relationship a difficult path of overcoming every rock placed in its way.
The plot is fast paced and full of edge of your seat suspense as the decisions facing Oskar are choices that could free him and Mylla or they could spell doom for both of them. The conflict is further complicated by the evil spells that Thomas has in place, his evil deeds that prolong his life and the riddles of the goddess that doesn’t exactly inspire Oskar’s confidence. Readers can’t help but enjoy this thrilling original story as it weaves its own spell – one that keeps them turning the pages.
I just loved this book. It was so well-written that it captured my mind and I was dragged along for the ride. Once I started reading I could not put it down until I read the last page.

I think the backcover blurb was really confusing and might have been offputting to paranormal romance readers such as myself. But it was an interesting read.
Loved the mystery and the tension. I felt so bad for the Mylla. To live for almost a century as worse than a slave, a doll with no control over even your own thoughts or memories is about the worst thing I could think of. I'm happy she was rescued by Oskar (in a very unique way).
This book was so great. Oskar's family had been cursed. He wasn't ready to go just yet. He wanted to break the curse. Mylla was trapped by magic. Once Oskar stepped foot into the cursed mansion, she was finally able to see what was going on. Together they fought against dark magic and won. This was so great I could not put it down.

Cursed by Shona Husk is a wonderful story that I have had the privilege to read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series and I loved reading it. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves readign about witches, shifters, romantic suspense and paranormal romances in their stories.

Another quietly brilliant book. A nice pace of delivery with enough background to make the story rounded without dragging on and on. The characters are believable, the bad guy could maybe have had his background fleshed out a bit more but it didn't detract from anything. I didn't like him but he didn't make me want to punch him like others I've read lol. Really enjoyed it.
Oskar and Mylla both complete each other. Oskar has only lived his life knowing that he would die to a curse. Mylla know something is wrong but she can never grasp it due to an evil keeping her bound. These two will work together to do anything they can to free each other from darkness.

The first book in the Coven of the Raven series and I know I want to read the next book, what a story it kept me turning pages. Oskar Quigley and Mylla have a lot to overcome to get their happy ending especially the black death magic of Thomas'. I liked this a lot... cursed hero, ensorcelled heroine, creepy bad guy, a goddess and magic. Not sure were this is going as a series since the hero is off on his own 'quest' with no back up, but I will be checking out the next.
Love this author’s distinct style. She manages to stay fresh and magical at the same time. Good and bad witches and a little bit of love to save the day made this an easy read.
