After King and Queens burns down the second time, Lucia and her crew seek sanctuary at White Oak. Unfortunately, Lucia can’t escape the leftover spirits, and the ghosts from her own past return to haunt her as well.

The first half of this novel is called “book 0” at amazon, so please read it first. The second novel is called “book 1”, and it ends in a huge cliffhanger just like book 0. I have *NO* idea when the next novel (book 2) comes out, or anything. Neither amazon nor gr has any info about it. It’s really frustrating. The novels were very good, interesting concept and characters, and just enough tension to keep the storyline going throughout both novels. I read them both in about 4-1/2 hours, with a break for snacks and making more tea. A snow- filled, freezing landscape was just the right background to help me forget about the stifling heat and humidity in Iowa, in August. I hope the next novel comes out soon, because I have some ideas about the whole plot and I *neeeeeed* to see if I’m right or not. 4 stars for both novels, and recommended.
Starts out very slow, but the pace and mystery picks up quickly after the first chapter. I actually had goose bumps a couple of times. My main questions are: What are all the secrets with the history of the original resort that the Watsons aren't telling?, and What part does their competitor, Nick, play in the past and current mystery? I, for one, intend to read and find out in The Haunting of Riley Watson, Book 1. I suggest that you do the same. 5 stars definitely. 😺😺😺😺😺 cats too!
Lucia Star is a fake/ turned real median... at first she sets up a fake setting in her apartment to make it look like she is communicating with ghosts and she has it on the web so people can see it and call her and sk her to contact their passed loved ones. But one day she is ratted out live on her news feed.. Shortly after she is contacted by a ski lodge owner that wants her help with his young daughter who is struggling with the loss of her mom, he offers to pay her big bucks if she will come and stay for one week to help. Lucia agrees and discovers that she is in over her head when she starts to see real ghosts and she cant escape because of the blizzard that has hit the lodge.. This was a great mystery that kept me wanting more.... ended on a cliff hanger..
I have a soft spot for ghost/possession-type stories and SO wanted to love this one more than I did. However the "twist" ending was super easy to figure out, right down to the weapon referenced earlier and where it was hidden throughout the rest of the story.
It's long, and drawn out. Certain plots aren't tied up in satisfactory ways (at worst, they're really not necessary). All in all this just wasn't very enjoyable to read, though it had its humorous, heartfelt, and even terrifying moments.
A disgraced internet medium is called to a ski lodge to become acquainted with the owner's daughter and investigate possible spectral activity. Nothing new in terms of ghostly fiction but the isolated, snowbound setting and a few creepy moments keep the story afloat. Ends pretty abruptly, but seems to be the beginning of a continuing story which I would be interested in reading.
The story has me captivated, only problem is the division in seperate books happens at a moment in the story when you really want to continue reading to find out what happend.
I was interested in the book. However I read her box set and that set me off so...same thing with this book.
I'm not sure about the characters. Not entirely believable. Written for entertainment. Seemed stretched out. Made sense when at the end found out it is just like chapter 1 in a book. But at least the chapters are in one book.
Madame Lucia and company. Again had trouble relating to the characters. Since this is chapter 0 it took towards the middle for an important event to occur but was downplayed. And when something does happen it is the end of the book. Cliffhangers are for tv not books.
Needs a real beta reader. Errors throughout. Can be distracting.
What I really do not like and why I will not buy from this author is that each book is part of the real book. She should just write the book and keep it as one. There is a book after this but is there another after that? They are not series. Series is a different story based on the same character or place or something. Series are not the next chapter of a book. Like this..the last 15 percent according to Kindle is whee action started taking place. Then it ended with a thanks for reading and where to buy next book. Sorry. I am not going to get caught up in that. There are other authors who do put the book in one book.
Note:The cover and title I received on my Kindle, from Amazon, is the one listed here. However, the novel is the beginning (book 1?), not the continuation as written here at Goodreads. In other words, I have no idea what I am supposed to read now as a continuation. So, here is my review on the story I read which must have the wrong cover and title attached to it.
Lucia Star is a fake medium who is asked to help a tween that is "acting weird". Then again, what child wouldn't ask stranger after seeing her mother die? Traveling to a ski resort, that happens to be deserted during winter high season; Lucia begins her "act". There's a hunky detective investigating the death of Thelma Watson; the owners son, Tyler, is definitely a bad, and troubled, young man; and Riley Watson is not a typical young girl.
Then ghostly things begin happening that make Lucia wonder if she isn't going insane herself, or are ghosts really real? There's another murder, a ghost announces to Lucia that "she's going to die"....and it continues in the next book of the series.
"The Shining", by Stephen King, is mentioned in the novel, and after reading this novel, you'll understand why.
What a great read. A plot with schemes within schemes and a great reveal at the end. Mind you it thought the main character could have done with a bit more backbone in this one. Why did she never demand that her BFF and the reporter come clean on what they were up too? Having escaped to the resort down the mountain, the small group try to recover. However one of the ghost has followed them and keeps giving he obscure clues that she tries to ignore. Also something is sapping her's and Riley's energy. Making them I'll and accident prone. That's why the arrival of her mother throws her for a loop. Now she also has a reporter stalking her and images of what happened (from her laptop) are appearing on the website and news. What is causing the energy drain? Who is the senior that keeps showing up? Why is she dreaming of the demon in the basement? Can they cleanse the area of it's bad aura?
CLIFF HANGER. THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE BOOK, IT IS THE FIRST PART OF A BOOK. This "book" finishes without any resolution nor answers to any of the questions raised. It is a refreshingly interesting tale and I was intrigued enough to keep reading till the end, BUT I was so annoyed that it just ended, BAM, midway through the story. If the intention of the author is to publish a serial, it should be clearly noted in the description. This is not book 0, this is part 1 of a book that when published completely, will be a terrific read. I give the story, that I read so far 4 stars. My rating for the "book", however is 1 star, It is not a complete book it is part 1 and it should be labeled as such.
Fake medium Lucia is asked to come to a ski lodge to help Oliver Watson’s daughter Riley. She claims she sees ghosts and since her mother died several weeks ago it has gotten worse. For ten thousand dollars Lucia thinks she can fake it and make good money. But when she gets there, meets Riley, and starts seeing and talking to ghosts, she realizes something is wrong at this place. Then it is show that Riley’s mom was murdered, her brother is murdered, and the workers, Riley and her dad, Lucia and her friend Jazmin, a detective, and an owner of a rival ski lodge are all trapped during a snow storm and one of them is the murder. This book has so many twists and turns. Just when you think the story is done and everything has been resolved, it takes another turn.
Madame Lucia has a youtube following as a flamboyant medium. She is an actress and not a real psychic and she hams it up for the fans as this is her only source of income. One thing happens and her show is off the air. The father of a fan asks Lucia to come to his resort all expenses paid plus money to verify if his daughter is a psychic or needs a trip to a head doctor. Lucia takes him on. Once she gets there, she starts seeing the same things that the girl does or real ghosts. It’s a good FUN read with an abrupt cliffhanger ending. Now I have to buy the next book in the series.
I'm sorry, I don't care who the author is, I hate cliffhangers. If the book ends that way it should say so in bold letters. The story is great. Gave four stars because of the cliffhanger. No one wants to reach the end of a book and find its not the end. Especially if the can't download the next book right away. So if you get this book to ahead and get the next on asap. The main character is interesting and isn't always believable but is still fun. Riley is too smart and Tyler needs a night at the police station. Oliver isn't really there. Read the book. Plenty of thrills and laughs.
The book starts out slow and silly; not really my kind of story, but a chapter of two into the book things picked up quickly. The storyline changed from silly to intriguing. The character's are very relatable and the suspense keeps building to the point i just couldn't put it down! Thank goodness I had book 1 waiting for me to grab as this ends in a great cliffhanger. I suggest have book 0 nd 1 on hand at the same time!!
I usually read mysteries rather than ghost stories but I was intrigued by this book! Not a fan of cliffhangers but as long as I don't have to wait months or more it's doable. I enjoyed the building of the characters and really glad there was no vulgarity. Really not a fan of the use of the Lord's name in books or movies. I think clever authors are able to portray emotions without the use of profanity. Perhaps the author is young. Still an interesting read.
After finishing the prequel, I bought this book immediately. Life got in the way, but once I got to Chapter 2, I couldn't put it down! I finished the rest of the book the same day! I can't wait to read the next one in the series!
The only reason for 4 stars is the editing - grammar was so horrible that it took away from enjoyment of the plot.
Although this isn’t my usual reading choice it had me from the start. Funny. and yet spooky, it was hard to put down (except at night when I was afraid to read it). I picked it up first thing in the morning and finished it in an hour. Can’t wait to have money to buy the next......or all the rest.
Can ghosts kill? If not, this near dozen people are snowed in with a human murderer. With the help of a ghost, Lucia has to try to figure out who's trying to kill the Watson family.
In this second book Lucia learns more about the haunting in the resort and tries to find the killer before someone else is killed. The ending makes me wish I had the next book in the series!
Haunted ski resort, fake psychic? Detective, family, resort workers, and a neighboring competitor. Mostly a believable story, but must purchase next book to get any answers. Big let down and a waste of my time.
This book only gets a five star rating if there is a continuation of this story! I loved it and I want more! It kept me on edge and sleepless until both books were read. Gonna get some sleep then search around for the next book that better be out there! Oh
This is a nice story with bits of horror and the frailty of the human psyche no matter what your age. I liked the development of each character I felt as if I knew each of them. I'm excited to continue the series
I chose this rating because the book was very well written, & easy to read. I would recommend this book to all the readers in my family, & my friends. Can't wait to read the next book.
