What if Jesus were in high school today? Who would he hang out with? What would he say? What would he do? For Tommy, the new school year starts off with a bang when a mysterious object is left in his locker, hinting at a possible enemy that may be out for his blood...
Shawn Hopkins lives with his wife and daughters in Pennsylvania. He holds degrees in theology and likes exploring the speculative side of such topics through the telling of unique stories and their characters. He enjoys a good thunderstorm, football, movies, and of course reading. He is busy on the next book.
This series continues to deliver. While it may be hard-edged for Christian fiction, that's a realistic portrayal of high school. I'm a member of the class of 2006, and, though school had its fun moments, and I had plenty of friends, I'm glad to be done with it; sometimes, bad memories from that time come back to haunt me in my dreams.
Enemy, another novella sequel to the Eli Diaries, continues developing the character of Thomas in this alternative universe where the Messiah appears in a modern-day high school in California. Shawn Hopkins does an excellent job providing a fast-moving action, suspense and great insight into human nature both today and 2000 years ago. Enemy explores the power of the gospel and Eli‘s unwavering willingness to forgive even the worst of people. At 89 pages this complete story makes a quick and enjoyable read.
Another quick read. This time it’s Thomas who’s telling the story. It’s a new school year and on opening his locker for the first time, he finds a single bullet in it. What could it mean? Does someone want him dead? And why?
Great climax to the story but more significantly a tremendous message. Is it a little preachy? Maybe, but we see it demonstrated as well by Eli of course and it’s such an important one that it needs to be said for it to sink in.
