I liked this comic. It is full of double dealing, double crosses and reversals. The artwork is great, and story was perfect inline with Beckett's character from the Solo movie.

The only reason I did not give thus 5 stars is there is no character development between Beckett and his crew. They just seem to go along with Beckett's flow.

A good comic, I would have like to see a bit more character development, and a bit more on Becketts legendary quick draw, and possible the adventure that enhanced his reputation for killing a legendary bounty hunter. Nont of that here, but a very good comic non the less.

Actual rating is 2.5 stars.

This is a one shot comic about characters that we see for the very first time in the Solo movie. This is a quick adventure and a quick read. In this one, Beckett and his crew are attempting a caper to obtain some goods. In this universe, we know that will never be easy.

While reading this I did enjoy it as I was in the moment. As for the long term there is nothing memorable and I will probably forget about it within a month. It doesn't add anything to the characters and the overall story. I would liken it to a filler episode of your favorite television series that does nothing to advance the plot. The artwork was good and the adventure did give me some chuckles but one can skip this without any problems. I did like the twist at the end and it did raise the rating as I was going to give this two stars.

There is nothing important here and I believe this is the case because it is a one shot. I would have preferred if this was a mini series and I do believe that these characters could have pulled that off.

I own this book.

Beckett follows Tobias Beckett, the lucky, aloof criminal that we first met in Solo. He's an interesting character, who has ties to Crimson Reign and is being hunted down by Enfys Nest. This story is split into three smaller stories that follow Beckett and his team as they commit various heists to pay their debts and line their own pockets. It is full of double-crossing and hoodwinking and I really liked the fun adventure of it all. It really makes for a quality Star Wars tale, not over-emotional, or too deep on backstory, it simply lets you know more about who Beckett is and the stuff he gets up to. I would've loved this to continue into a series rather than just be a one shot, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

I want another Tobias Beckett comic, maybe even his own series. I will admit that I wanted more from this one-shot, but what I got was pretty good. Too good to just be a one-shot. He is a great character, surrounded by an ensemble that we didn't get enough of in Solo. The characters in Solo are so great that they deserve more canon appearances.

Fun, one off adventure with Beckett and his crew running scams, stealing some merchandise, and dodging Enfys Nest. A nice little companion to Solo: A Star Wars Story

Let's just get it out of the way: This does not tell the story of Tobias Beckett vs Aurra Sing. I know some fans were expecting that, but an event that big does not belong in a one-shot comic. Especially not one like this that has three short stories that feel rushed. My expectations were pretty low since Marvel has had a bad track record with these one-shots that tie into the films, with Cassian & K-2SO being the only good one. C-3PO: The Phantom Limb had good existential concepts but terrible artwork and execution. Storms of Crait was pretty much a throwaway with nothing to love about it. DJ: Most Wanted didn't really add anything to the character. And now, Beckett just feels like a series of forgettable events with little substance. The inclusion of Enfys Nest was a little interesting, and the mention of Rio being good at playing dead plays into that Harsher in Hindsight trope. At least the artwork is decent, I suppose. But next time Lucasfilm tries to tell a compelling Beckett story, it should be no less than a comic miniseries.

Another One-Shot, this time, using one of the main characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story, Tobias Beckett. In this collection of three stories, we’re able to dig inside a little adventure, prior to the film events, since we’re also able to see his former team-mates, Rio and Val, as well as a quick presence from Enfys Nest, also another character from the Star Wars spin-off. I said it in regards of Dr. Aphra, while reading one of the volumes; there’s a certain aspect of the Star Wars underground world that I do really like, and most of the times enjoy reading. From all that war and political perspective that most of the stories in this universe have, the criminal world in Star Wars it just seems pure fun. The perfect mix between uncompromising adventures in which we’re able to see rogue characters just doing their jobs, trying to earn a life, pretty much avoiding a considerably superior-evil authority, the Empire. Beckett was actually the part of Solo that I enjoy the most, including Lando, maybe because it was portrayed by Woody Harrelson, or maybe because I really like these types of character stereotypes; outlaws that have a good side, deep down inside. Maybe its for that western-potential you can give these sort of cowboy-antagonists, but I feel that Beckett its that, and I could clearly imagine him being that influential figure for a younger Solo. That being said, I felt a little disappointed while reading this single issue, while fun and entertaining reading, it messed with a potential origin story for a character that, I do consider, deserves more than just the treatment given to him, so far. The story takes place sometime right before the film Solo, and Tobias is doing an assigned job along his team, which is basically stealing some chips to a certain owner, in order to deliver them to Dryden Vos. Of course, things got complicated when a submarine-octopus-like creature attacks, and now they’ll have to escape the planet and regroup, but not before encountering with Enfys Nest. Now, I don’t mind these sort of small stories, but once again, being disappointed at this comes from the wasted potential in actually delivering a sort of small story that could show us how Beckett knew his crew, how did they find themselves, how did they end up working together, or better yet, how did they end up working by Vos? I could’ve let it pass, maybe, by seeing a sort of introduction to Enfys, who its just a plot-device in the film, and I wouldn’t mind it, if she would’ve been exploited narrative-like in other stuff, I don’t know, a novel, a comic-book series, a show, whatever, but she’s just there, and, well, here as well. I understand this is, again, a simple One-Shot issue, meant to be more an special or something (originally included, I believe, in the regular Vader series), rather than an actual relevant or important story... but maybe its because of which character it picked. Same issue but in a different way, as I had with C-3PO’s; this time, we’re given a character that could be used in better ways in this media, or in a different one. At least with C-3PO we got to see how he acquired the red arm, here is just... just an adventure, and that’s it. Nothing significant happens, its just for the sake of reading a “Star Wars issue”. This was written by Gerry Dugan (Darth Vader, regular), and the art came from three different names: Edgar Salazar, Marc Laming and Will Sliney. Once again, this is an issue that could’ve used a better artist for the whole entry, that being John Tyler Christopher, who did the cover, and is better known for creating the several figure-package covers for both, Star Wars and Marvel. He should’ve draw the whole issue. Its not a horrible One-Shot, and its a fine-simplistic reading, but it doesn’t add or lead to anything important, neither for these characters, or for the story behind.

Here's the next comic in my lineup from the comics I got at the end of 2019 on Comixology. This one actually was published in the trade paperback of Star Wars: Han Solo - Imperial Cadet, but I decided to do separate reviews because they were originally published separately and they are completely different stories.

Like I mentioned in my review of Han Solo Imperial Cadet, I really enjoyed the film Solo: A Star Wars Story. And the train heist with Beckett, Val, and Rio was one of the standout scenes in the movie. This one-shot focuses on the three of these characters and takes place some time before the movie.

THE STORY: Tobias Beckett, Val, and Rio are on a heist mission assigned by Dryden Vos. They hope that it could potentially lower their debts to Dryden and maybe even get themselves out of Crimson Dawn.

THE BAD: Nothing really awful is to be found in this, but I didn't pick out to much that was particularly impressive either.
The artwork isn't all that great. The characters don't always look like their counterparts from the movies, and the action scenes were mediocre.
While the core trio was consistent with how they were characterized in Solo, not really anything new was added to them either. They were just kind of doing the same thing they were doing in the movie, so you won't get anything from this comic that you wouldn't get from the movie.

THE GOOD: The was one aspect that I really did enjoy: the storyline.
I was surprised at how many good twists were woven into just a one shot, and it made reading this fairly entertaining.

THE CONCLUSION: Final rating is 2.5 stars, rounded up for the really fun twist towards the end. This was better than I thought it was going to be, but I can't say anything more than that. If you didn't get enough of Val and Rio in the movie, you can give this one a try, but otherwise there isn't much to recommend. Like the other one-shots that have been made to tie into the new Star Wars movies, this one is not particularly great. If you're too curious to ignore it, go for it, you'll finish it pretty quickly. Otherwise, just reread your favorite star wars comic again (or other comic), you'll probably get more enjoyment out of that.

I *loved* Solo. Just loved it (and am still a little depressed that it kind of bombed...). So the chance to see more of these characters was right up my alley. And... Well, it's a little disappointing, really. Honestly, if I didn't love the characters so much, there would be very little here to rate this decently at all. It is a bit of a cliché story in a lot of ways and it is far too short. It could have played out over the course of a full length graphic novel and been much better...

Still, every line of Rio dialogue, I could hear in his voice. That was almost enough for me.

"It was amazing." - 5 out of 5 star rating.

Wow, what an excellent Beckett comic! I honestly have absolutely nothing negative to say about this entry... therefore I cannot see any reason not to give this a solid 5-stars.

I for one, really enjoyed the Solo movie despite critics. Beckett was a super fun "Han-like" character that was introduced and this comic has a lot of add depth/lore to his crew and various adventures they have been through together in the search of fame and fortune.

Solo fans - this is a must read.

An excellent one-shot. In contrast to the Lando (Double or Nothing... which I wish was better) 5 issue series, this tells a tale of how this band works a job, why they are doing jobs like this at all, and what they hope to get out of the next job. The three members of the gang are all interesting and have their own personalities without being caricatures.

This is a great lead in to watching Solo.

Han Solo movie's prequel we didn't want, didn't need and I didn't enjoy. This single issue (thank Lord for that) introduces the character, who needn't more introduction in the story that needn't be told. I have a high tolerance for SW comics universe, but even I must admit this is both totally unnecessary and not good.

I hate that I have to count this as a book considering its 35 pages but because of my Star Wars canon challenge it needs to go on here

I enjoyed this comic
Wasn’t my favourite but it was enjoyable

The art work was gorgeous and it had a pretty decent storyline

Tbh there isn’t much to say cause it was legit 35 pages

*2.5*

Should have this been a complete origin story of Beckett and Friends? Not really, but I would’ve liked to see this lead to up to Beckett’s appearance in Solo, but this was just too short for a one-shot and the alternating artwork in each chapter, whilst not annoying, just felt unnecessary.

Beckett was always man of an action and with his team, there was no heist, he wouldn’t do. The fast paced comics full of scum and villainy without moral baggage. Beckett and his team were criminals and they didn’t pretend to be anything else.

I wish Disney would write a proper novella for all these one-movie-main-character persons. The story steps up a plot point for "Solo," but doesn't really explore who Beckett and his crewmates are-it's a good story, but not an origin story, which is what I was hoping.

It was only ok. Beckett is a short story about a job Tobias Beckett and his crew had before they appeared in a Solo movie. Basically, a typical one-shot. Fun, but not really that memorable.

Pleasant distraction but I don’t get why they wasted 20% of the book on chapter dividers and I would’ve liked it to be a 5 issue series. The bookends to the issue were great though!

The story was very dull. Not much going on here, but the artwork was amazing as always. I just wish there was a little more depth since it was a one-shot issue.
