Advent of the Archmage

Rate this book
Link was the top Archmage in the entire server. He had just defeated the strongest boss, the Lord of The Deep, Nozama with his party. However, instead of going back to town, he was transported to a secret location with pixelated CG.

It sort of felt like a vacuum, and within it came a glorious and commanding voice that calls himself the God of Light.

"Link, would you be willing to be the saviour who will pull the World of Firuman out from the churning abyss?"

What a huge mission! If it was in the real world, Link would have rejected it immediately. However, he was bent on being the hero in game.

"Bring it on!" Link answered confidently.

"Then, best of luck."

And so begin Link's journey of magic, friendship, betrayal, love and despair in the ever changing World of Firuman.

The plot here revolves around a man who is reincarnated into a game where he used to play the game's strongest Archmage. It's quite good for a long while but ultimately, I found myself losing interest. I think the problem is that the main character is obsessed with studying magic. I get that he's trying to be an arch mage, and I didn't mind the school arc where he's attending a magic academy, but the constant preoccupation with learning magic significantly diminishes the meaning in his supposed advantages as the former strongest archmage in the world. Furthermore, it's one thing to have your character study magic. It's another thing entirely to have hundreds of chapters where the goal is to get back to reading those tomes of magic already.

... it just got old.

4/5 to start, but it doesn't hold up over time.

An amazing read, although the story feels like it ends abruptly it somehow still feels like natural progression and not forced. Which is a good thing that is a characteristic of the read. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes to read fantasy.
