Again, E.A. Copen has given us another exceptional addition to the Lazarus Codex series. Laz seems to hae a knack for getting into situations and then extricating himself with the help of his friends. The characters are all well developed and interesting. There is plenty of action, twists, and turns. There are so many things going on that keeps you glued to your seat and continuing to turn pages. Highly recommend this book and series (would be best to begin with Death Rites, book 1 to really experience the storyline and characters from the beginning). Received a copy and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Awesome book! A story filled with gripping action and mystery. There are plenty of plot twists but the reader will be engrossed with the book! Lazarus has learned how he was saved from being turned into a ghoul. Emma’s choice has left him to be manipulated by Morningstar. As the contest for who will become the namer of the replacement for Famine the action for the tournament centers around three remaining Horsemen, Emma, Loki, and many more.
Lazarus discovers things about himself which would make him sacrifice lots to see things change. I give this book 10 stars and recommend it and the series!

Oh my goodness...
What an exciting read! I really liked this story, and how there was finally a more substantial hint at the blooming possibility of Laz and Emma. I really liked getting to know War, too! Will be fascinating to find out how their friendship develops further. Oh, and Loki’s involvement.. Can’t wait for the next one!!

Death Match - a review by Rosemary Kenny
Author E.A Copen really knows her supernatural stuff and keeps proving it over and over again, as with the excellent Death Match, #5 in the ever-better Lazarus Codex series.
This time our hapless, (open your mouth and insert both feet up to the ankles) hero seems to be really in the you-know-what, when he ends up being coerced by Emma's Dad, Morningstar into taking part as a contestant, in a tournament seemingly organised by the gods themselves, to 'graciously' grant the right to nominate the new replacement for the late Horseman, Famine] to the victor of a bloody, no-holds-barred tournament.
Can Laz survive to have an HEA with his would-be lady-love, Emma? Or do the gods, Fate - and Morningstar - have other ideas?

I may have slightly left it too long between drinks for this series, but the salient prints came back to me slowly. The action picked up from the first page, and while the plot twists kept me guessing, the final reveal was a bit of a letdown. The climax was gripping and delicious, but it left very little time for the resolution, which left us with a bit of a cliffhanger. I'll have to continue this series very soon.

OMG. This story was so intense. The battles were breath catching and then.... NOOOOOOOOOO! If Lazarus were not a necromancer, I would be totally freaking out right now. Time to read book 6 and see how all of this turns out!

Overall good, but the death of Emma I think should have had more of an effect on Lazarus than it seemed to. It was really just glossed over. I get that it's the setup for the next book(s?), But the death of one you love should have a more profound loss.

Loved it, binged listened to the second half, would've binged the whole thing had I had the free time, immediately started the next one.
The audiobook isn't up on Goodreads yet, but I highly recommend. Baldree does a fantastic job with this series.

Laz is back and learning about the consequences of some of the decisions from the previous book. In this book he meets more "gods" and faces yet another almost impossible task- in this case catching who is killing the gods.

its a decent series i like his take on death and the gods.... hes a little wishy washy on character on whether hes good or bad or a badass
