DNF

Yucky, yucky, yucky.

Immediately when I started reading it I knew that I wasn't going to last long, but I pressed forward anyways because I hate DNF-ing books just out of plain bordem. The book however contained things I didn't like and I knew I didn't want this trashy story running through my mind. I made it to chapter two, skimming already by this time.

Content ~ Use of bad language ( which I loathe ) Already talk of sexual stuff AND FOR PETE'S SAKES PEOPLE ITS ONLY CHAPTER 2!! Online dating is mentioned!! And insta love, gross . . . from both sides. Chapter one he's madly in love with her. Chapter two she's fiercely in love with him, and his body. UGH!!

The other reasons I DNF-ed this book were, bordem, immediate dislike of all characters ( I didn't connect with them in any way ), and it was book #15. So I started in the middle of a series, unknowingly. I hate that so much!! Mainly because of the spoilers!!

Anyways it was trashy, both because of the content and it plainly didn't interest me. And yes, it deserves to hang with my one stars because WHO WRITES DETAILS LIKE THAT??! Donna Grant ruined the description, ruined it. And for my detail loving side that horrified me.

***NOTE*** ( I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO RATE AND REVIEW BOOKS BASED ON MY OPINION!! THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF A REVIEW!! So I'd like IT if people would STOP clogging my PERSONAL REVIEWS with their nasty comments!! ) What's the point of a book review if not to give your own opinion about the book??

This is not a series I would suggest picking up in the middle or even choosing random books to start. Each book takes you a little bit closer to a huge battle I expect is to come. There are multiple enemies of the Dragon Kings and some who we thought were enemies, may not be. This series has been like putting a puzzle together. Each step reveals a piece to the overall bigger picture and yet still leaves you guessing.

Ignite is Claire and Vlad's story. V has been an unstable Dragon King for many years due to his sword being stolen. His sword allows only him to locate the dragons they sent away for safety many, many years ago. Con, the King of the Dragon Kings, was forced to send V to sleep in dragon form due to the havoc he was unknowingly unleashing on the humans and that has made it hard for V to adjust to current times now that he has his sword back.

V is realizing that his troubles aren't quite over yet. You get a bit of push and pull at first, between him and Claire due to those lingering affects. What V should have done was have more faith in what Claire could do for him to ease that. Claire has been a fun character to get to know but she is pretty desperate to find true love. After witnessing the love her best friend has with her own Dragon King, Claire is not willing to settle down.

While we get to see V and Claire's love come together in the end, we do get left with a huge cliffhanger for this series. I feel like the next book is when things are really going to ramp up with the Dragon Kings enemy. We still have some unknown mysteries about the Others as well. I'm really curious who the author will choose for her couple to focus on during this time.

Until the next book...

ARC received for review

This is the first one I want to give a three star rating to and not for the story itself. V(lad) and Claire (Sophie's BFF) and absolutely perfect for each other. I loved their romance as it grows and blossoms. Ulrik is now firmly in the like column. Plus both of her secrets....jaw drop on the second. All the other Kings and their mates are around to help and even push, so great. Then add in what UB!tch does - unbelievable.

So, why do I want to give it three stars....a @#$%&@%$*@%@ CLIFFY!!!!!! and the next book isn't due out till October....I'm still in shock that there's a cliffy, the first one in this series that I know of. I'm going to be stalking NetGalley ............... Is it there yet?

How bout now?

As a long-time follower of this series, I feel like there is something comforting about reading this series. I enjoy the world and mythology, as well as the Scottish brogue that many of the heroes have. However, as of late, I have been beginning to wonder if it’s starting to lose its luster.

IGNITE is book fifteen in the Dark Kings series, so there have been a lot of stories and HEAs already. This book is dedicated to V and Claire and although I liked them, they haven’t truly shone to me. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve become accustomed to Grant’s writing so much that I’m getting immune to her tricks or if the stories themselves are becoming too repetitive and similar.

I was hoping for something a bit more with this book, but never really got it. The characters were enjoyable enough, and I always like seeing all the familiar cameos from the other characters in the series. But when that happens with every book, it starts to feel like a common occurrence and as a result, doesn’t feel so special anymore.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s still a strong romance and plot, but too much of the same pattern has been happening in this series and because it’s book fifteen, I’m wondering if we will get a change sometime soon.

Nevertheless, IGNITE is a pleasant read that I think loyal fans will enjoy. I hope that with the next book in the series, Grant can step out of the box a little bit and give readers something new.

With help from friends V finally has his magical sword back but sadly for some reason he just can't access it's abilities. So very tired of letting his fellow Dragon Kings down V thinks the best thing he can do is return to his mountain to sleep. Well luckily for V he has friends who just love to meddle and it hasn't gone unnoticed that Claire the local nurse has caught his attention so what can possibly go wrong if they get pushed together ?
This series seems to finally be giving up its secrets and as a reader I honestly think it's about time ! I loved reading about V ( the original Vlad ! ) and Claire who cunningly has secrets of her own but unfortunately I did slightly feel that their romance was somewhat overshadowed by events happening around them. Long time readers know that the Fae are split into two camps with an evil queen on one side and a somewhat lovelorn king on the other ! Now add in the recently revealed Others who seem equally keen to see the demise of the Dragon Kings and its hard to see any allies who can be trusted.
So all this comes back to Con the King of Kings , Rhi a Fae with a chequered past involving the Dragons and just whether or not the Reapers or the Druids will stand on their side. Meanwhile of course there's the way this book leaves V and Claire with one hell of a dilemma and if blunt I did feel slightly cheated as its most definitely a cliff hanger . Still I will read the next book as I'm desperate for my suspicions to finally be confirmed and its getting so obvious that I'm finding it ridiculous.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair.

When I read Ulrik's book in this series, it felt like an ending. Ulrik had been the bad guy for so long in this series that I was unsure how I felt about it. The author did a great job redirecting things and I totally loved Ulrik. As much as Torched was an ending, Dragonfire (the book before this one) was a beginning. The world is expanded and the past is seen through new eyes. It was a great way to kick off the next set of books. But Ignite wasn't what I expected after that. I did enjoy it a lot. It was just a little out of the flow.

V was in Dragonfire a lot. Roman's story revolves around them finding V's sword. It was strange having two Dragon Kings have so much face time in the story but it worked well. A new enemy was introduced and I expected that Ignite would focus on that new enemy. Maybe follow the pattern of having two Kings center stage. Neither happened.

Ignite is a little slower than the books it follows. V is struggling with issues surrounding his recovered sword. Claire has a secret. A huge part of the book is spent with these two falling for each other. I loved that. Really I did. It just surprised me. It's different than previous books.

I enjoyed V. He's got a lot of guilt over his sword and having slept so much time through the centuries. I felt like Claire was a good fit for him. She's been hunting for someone decent to date with very little luck. There is some funny aspects to the story with poor Claire's dating success, or lack thereof. There was a little more uncertainty about their relationship than I've seen in previous books. He put off telling her his feelings longer than most Kings. It left things unsettled for a really long time.

As for the story, I guess I'm disappointed that it took until 75% for the new enemy to even come up in the story. And there was entirely too much time taken talking about doing things that they needed to do 20 pages ago. That's not how the previous books were at all. I may have expected too much from this one. The series has been a solid 4 star read but then Torched was 5 stars. The momentum just didn't hold.

Of course I'll read more. I have really enjoyed this series. I do think this story needed just a touch more polish with some more about the series plot in this book. Still good, but I'm hoping it's not a trend down in quality that holds for the next book.

If I was pressed, it would be 3 1/2 stars but I'm rounding up.

Love the world, hope for a little more in the next one.

I learned about this book via email. Someone from St. Martin's would send me an email once in a while giving me a Netgalley link of a book I can just download without requesting. I actually don't know why I'm suddenly in their list to notify about their books in Netgalley BUT I AM NOT COMPLAINING. That said, this is the second book by this author that I've got from them. I really liked the first one so when I got an email, I didn't think twice to download it, because I thought, even though this is book #15, it would be easy to read it. The first book I've read from this author was book #7 of another series and I didn't have a hard time reading it. I actually liked it. This time though, I think it's way better if I've read the previous books.

Sure, this is a standalone but the writing looked like it was trying to infodump everything that happened in previous books. If I read the other books, I would've appreciated it. But I didn't so for me, they're just infodumps and unnecessary to the plot of THIS book. I can't blame the author though coz she has to set the plot of the series too, but still, I can't bring myself to be interested.

The characters aren't helping as well. They're not as compelling as I expected them to be. They're just too mediocre for me. The plot of the romance is not something I like too. Insta-romance and unnecessary steamyness. I mean, I'm all for steamy sex and all the passion but the romance kinda lost to me, and all there is was the steam.

Still, I'm rating this 3 stars. Sounds generous since I haven't said a single compliment for this book. But I don't want to ruin theoverall rating of this book just because I didn't read the previous ones. It's my fault. If I did read them, I know I'll rate this 3 stars so that's what I'm giving. :) :)

My method might not work for others but this is how I do it so...

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publishers and author through Netgalley. This does not affect my opinions about the book.

I loved Claire and Vlad! They were...well, adorably cute is the best description I can think of! Claire has had the worst dating luck while Vlad has been in literal hibernation. I loved how open they were with one another because they took a huge plunge baring themselves and their vulnerabilities. In doing so, they also cemented a tangible emotional bond developing between them.

Battle-wise, things are heating up and leading to war between the Dragon Kings, Rhi, Balladyn and the Dark Dae against the Light Fae and their Queen Usaiel-who is one loony toon ruler... Don’t let any of this deter you from reading the book, because Grant summarizes everything up to this point in a nicely done conversation between Vlad and Claire...conveniently giving me a refresher too!

This series is long running, but I never tire of the world Donna Grant has built! The politics, the characters, the family and friends, and the romances...there’s never a dull moment! Each story primarily focuses on a specific couple and their developing relationship, while a secondary arc occurs over multiple books before reaching its climax (no pun intended :P) right as another storyline crops up. I’ve missed a couple of books previous to this one and had no issues jumping in with Claire and Vlad’s story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really want to read this whole series. This is the 15th book of a series and I really enjoyed it and was able to understand what was going on but I know it would help if I read the other books.
V had been in a deep sleep and just woke up. He is a dragon king and must find a way to win back his sword. He meets Claire and the sparks between them starts. He had vowed never to have a mate but he can't seem to get enough of Claire and she is human. He feels that she is The One though. There is a force that could destroy them and they feel their love can win. She is also keeping a couple of secrets and needs to tell him and her best friend.

This book is hard for me to rate. The book is written very, very well, the story easily drew me in and the world building in this book is amazing. The hero and heroine were a great couple who I rooted for and loved learning more about, and the funny little twist(that isn't hard to guess but still fun) was a cute little bonus. Now after all that why am I having such a difficult time rating this book. Well like many other times before I read this book because it sounded very interesting and something right up my alley.....and this is not book one. Have I done this tons of times, yes and most of the time I just don't even pay attention that the book isn't the first in a series.

Well this time that bit me in the behind. Quite honestly I was lost a lot in this book. Theres so much that has happened before this book and so much back story and important things that happen before this book that I missed too much. As I read I did pick up some things but not enough to truly enjoy this book and comfortably be able to follow. This is sad(and again all my fault) because I really did enjoy this book and know had I actually stated with book one this book would be very highly rated and I'm sure a series I would want to keep up with.

So with myself completely in the blame here I still highly recommend this book if you start from book one. And I'm saying this without reading any other books from this series. However from reading this book I know that this book and this entire series is very much worth a read. Just don't make the mistake I made and start with this book. Theres so much in this storyline that just blew my mind with how much time and thought the author put into this series and all the intricate details. The love story is wonderful and very engaging, and all the characters really add so much to this story both past future characters yet to come. So if you've read this series, yes pick this book up. If you haven't read this series I say start from book one you won't regret it.

Let's start off by saying we really loved this story and we are really enjoying this ongoing series with these amazing characters that we could not help but, fall in love with and that we just love Donna Grant and her amazing books !

We love Claire and Vlad aka V's story from beginning to end.We found the story to be hilarious also that it had fun characters who had a sense of humor, was intriguing, and was suspenseful and had a story that had tons of twists and turns and a lot of the unknown. This plot is ongoing and every time you started figuring things out there was yet another surprise. The story was filled with a ton of betrayal as well as not knowing who to trust .There are a lot of players who normally are enemies are now aligning themselves with one another to take out one common enemy.

I found Claire to be funny and beautiful inside and out,a keeper of secrets and she had a great sense of humor, was daring and a hopeless romantic trying to find the one in all the wrong places.Perhaps she was a bit lonely and frustrated but , she starting blogging to vent those frustrations and well let's just say her posts were more than entertaining.

Vlad- aka V Let's just say we loved him from the onset of the story. He was sexy and sweet and kind funny and had a sense of humor, a bit lonely and lost and had the wait of the world on his shoulders.A Dark King who felt he didn't fit in this new world he is now living in but, that all changed when he caught a glimpse of a sexy blond who he couldn't seem to stay away from.We loved how Claire reminded Vlad who he was and what he stood for and just how very dangerous and powerful he really is and that is was more then capable of standing against their enemy who threatened the life they have created along with their mates as well as their families.

We loved that V and Clarie's courtship was full of fun and laughter and that they had this amazing chemistry and not only were the were lovers they were friends first and foremost .We loved that Claire eased his loneliness and vice versa.

I know this story had a lot of mixed reviews but, for us we were one of those who just loved this sweet and emotional romance tale with those sexy dragon shifters that we just adored but, most of all we loved those character's who made the story intriguing and fun and more than once had us laughing out laughed and that they made us tear up a time of two.

Looking forward to what is going to happen next as the story left us wanting and with a whole lot of unanswered questions and we can't wait to get them!

In Ignite, I enjoyed reading about how Claire and V’s relationship grows in closeness and intensity. V is very worried about the fact that his sword is not working as it should be and also that he has missed out on so much over the years while he was asleep in his mountain. Claire has her own concerns. They find that once they start sharing their thoughts, their romance takes off.

There are many issues that are rising to a boiling point in the lives of Con, the Kings, Rhi, Balladyn, Usaeil and the Others. Usaeil is up to her old tricks of trying to interfere with the Kings and their mates. Tension continues to build in anticipation of the inevitable battle with Usaeil, yet there are some aspects that I expected to learn more about that I felt were missing from this novel. Specifically:

Ultimately, my biggest grievance about Ignite is that there is a lot of talk about the upcoming battle (the biggest of which is Con’s decision to confront Usaeil), but not a lot of movement in that direction. It just seems to conclude with V and Claire’s love for each other. The Epilogue does provide some interesting hitherto unknown information about Rhi, some additional details about the Others, and further insight into Usaeil’s egomania. In my opinion, however, this novel did not sufficiently advance the ongoing storyline as much as did previous books in this series. Despite all that, I look forward to reading upcoming novels about the Dragon Kings and the Reapers. I'm eager to find out how everything is finally resolved.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Claire works as a nurse at her best friend’s clinic in a Scottish village outside of Dreagan. She has two secrets that she never revealed to anyone. Claire refuses to allow her dating flops to discourage her from finding The One. She discovers a kindred spirit with Vlad. Can Claire handle the trials of being a Dragon King’s mate? What role will she play with Vlad’s sword?
Vlad, known as V, is the Dragon King of the Coppers. He has spent the majority of his existence asleep in his mountain. V desperately tries to unlock his sword’s true power. Claire eases his restlessness, yet Vlad worries his nearness will endanger her life. Can V reconnect with his sword? What other surprises are in store for the Dragon Kings and their mates?
I have always been curious about V since his introduction in the series. I love how he unintentionally inspired the Dracula myth. I adore the effort V makes with Claire. He is a man used to keeping to himself, yet Vlad willingly initiates conversations to learn more about her. Also, he never once sugarcoats his opinions or thoughts. What I like most about V is how disconnected he is from the current time. He does not understand movie or music references, which often makes Vlad feel lost in the world.
It took me a while to warm up to Claire, especially since I did not read SMOLDERING HUNGER, book eight in the series. I like how trustworthy she is. Claire has kept the knowledge of the Dragon King’s existence secret since she learned about them. She even kept it from her best friend. I love how Claire refers to Vlad by his name rather than his lettered nickname. What I admire the most about Claire is how she never once gave up hope. No matter the duds she found while dating, she remained optimistic about finding Mr. Right.
IGNITE is book fifteen in Donna Grant’s paranormal series, DRAGON KING. It is necessary to read the prior books and novellas in the series to better understand the continuing plot happening in the background. I love how some of the couples from previous books show up throughout the story, especially Ulrik and Eilish.
IGNITE is an enthralling tale of two lonely, kindred souls finding each other. I wish the author dropped a little more information about the enigmatic Others. I cannot wait to see which Dragon King is next.

How can V love Claire truly, madly, deeply…and protect her from the forces of fire and darkness that could destroy them both? After awakening for his doomed sleep, V must find a way to win back his sword, wield its power and try not to fall prey to his own illicit desires. He knows better that to mess with a mere mortal but he instinctively knows that Claire is The One who can help regain the use of his sword and restore his place at Dreagan.

This newest Dragon King romance is a stunning and overwhelmingly intense read! Claire and V are powerful, sensuous characters that easily take the readers’ world by storm as they demand their attention. The romance between them sizzles with undeniable chemistry while the relationship is as sweet as it passionate. V’s tentative courtship of Claire is endearing and makes readers sigh in pleasure while Claire’s opposing thoughts of her standing in relationships is also endearing while her secret gives readers insight into her life as well as into the truth about dating.

The plot is fast paced and has excitement and electrifying suspense building throughout as the Kings, Rhi, Death and the King of the Dark prepare for the battle to come which is a tough task to undertake considering they discover just how manipulative and underhanded the Queen of the Light has been and continues to be. Unexpected twists keeps readers guessing right alongside the characters but what’s more this story has a couple of prodigious and jaw-dropping surprises that not only stuns readers with the possibilities but also shows readers just how true love is supposed to be. Readers have no way fighting the all-consuming need to finish this thought-provoking and exciting story once they begin.

I found "Ignite" by Donna Grant to be an interesting read. The story has a nice mix of action, adventure and the love story that propels it forward. Vlad and Clair are strong characters and well rounded inside of a well crafted world.
The only thing about the story that kept me from truly enjoying it is in all likely hood my own fault. I couldn't help but feel that I was missing out on the full picture of the story because I hadn't read any of the other books. Having read quite a few novel series that I started in the middle, I don't usually feel like I am missing out on something, unfortunately reading "Ignite" (Dark Kings #15) as a first read in the series left me with that nagging feeling throughout the story.
The best I can say is that to get the full effect of the story I wouldn't recommend it as a first read in the series, I would venture to say that the series is probably best enjoyed if read from beginning to end.

I would like to thank Donna Grant and Goodreads for hosting the contest that won me this book.

*Requested and Received an ARC of this via NetGalley and the publisher St. Martins Press, in exchange for an honest review.*

I felt this book was a solid 3 stars for me. I want to start off by saying this book does not work very well as a stand alone it is number #15 in a series and so has 14 books worth of back story and experiences that the characters have gone through, as well as 14 books worth of buildup of an ongoing secondary plot line.

In all honesty one of the things that kept me from just loving this book itself was that there was a lot of references to the stories before, almost like the author might have been trying to make it to where the story could stand alone? I just felt like an inordinate amount of the story was diverted into details from stories past which if a reader had read the books prior to this one would feel was a little repetitive. I am all for some backstory but with 14 prior books of backstory that is a lot of story to incorporate this late in the game. Another thing that kept me from hitting that 4 star was the fact that V and Claire's story seems to kind of take a back seat for all the plot building needed to continue the ongoing secondary plot line. Their story actually seemed a little rushed to me and I wished we had more time to really get into their story.

Claire, our FMC, is a nurse by day, and secret dating blogger by.. well all the other time she has. Perplexed by the art of love and basically at her wits end of the dating scene, Claire is just about ready to start collecting cats.. That is until some meddling dragon kings decide that she is a potential candidate for a broody King who needs a purpose and a date to get him out of the past and into the present. Vlad has spent so much time obsessing over his lost sword, and now the fact that it doesn't work, that life is passing him by. Becoming more and more depressed, the dragon kings team up to set him up with Claire. Meanwhile a war is brewing and the evil Light Fae Queen has begun to put her plans into motion for way more than world domination. As the kings discover how far her treachery is reaching they scramble to come up with plans to thwart her. Unfortunately in the process, Con goes missing. The kings must team up with every potential ally in an attempt to take her out. Little do they know she has allies of her own with their own devious plans..

There was a lot of buildup for this battle with "Ubitch," but unfortunately the story ended before we ever really got anywhere so here we are left on the cusp of what is shaping up to be a battle of epic proportions.. Hopefully in the next book we can get more answers, instead of reiterating all the questions we already have.. maybe we will even get to bring home some dragons? I'm down!

IGNITE is the fifteenth full-length instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal, fantasy romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is copper dragon V aka Vlad, and registered nurse Claire. IGNITE should not be read as a stand alone as the current story lines continue to follow an ongoing series arc.

SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Silver Dragon Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides but someone or something is determined to push the Dragons back into another war: Queen Usaeil of the Light Fae has set her sights on claiming King Constantine as her mate, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon in order to rule Scotland and the rest of the world. With the recent introduction of the Fae executioners known as the Reapers, the number of interconnected series continues to expand.

Told from several third person perspectives including V and Claire, following numerous intersecting paths IGNITE focuses on the prelude to war. Vlad aka V, the copper dragon struggles with his purpose in the new world. For years, Vlad remained within his mountain, in a deep slumber, to protect those he wanted to destroy. With his magical sword missing, and his memories shattered, V kept to himself until the time came, to once again, search for the sword. Meeting Claire, stirred something deep within our story line hero, something he struggled to accept or need. Falling in love and finding his mate while the Dragon Kings were on the verge of war, found V considering the future, including the future with our story line heroine. With the return of his sword, and the power within, V once again, battles with what he wants, and what he needs to do.

Meanwhile, Queen Usaeil is determined to make Con her mate, to rule everyone and everything with the King of Kings by her side but in order to claim the supernatural throne Usaeil must first destroy those who stand in her way. As the Dragon Kings prepare to go to war, they discover that friends and adversaries must merge together in order to take down the evil that approaches. Friends become enemies, enemies become allies in an effort to reinforce for the battles ahead.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including many of the previous story line couples, a few Reapers and their leader Death, as well as another look at the group known as the Others. A surprise awaits Claire and V, an unexpected and unnatural piece of news that adds strife to an already tumultuous situation.

Claire is not a strong heroine, in fact, she longs for someone to love and love her back. Searching for ‘The One’ becomes tantamount for Claire, so much so that her search consumes her days and nights. Afraid of forever being alone Claire searches for her happily ever after. IGNITE reveals the ‘blogger’ behind the (Mis)adventures of a Dating Failure, a revelation that was a little disappointing and a bit of a let down- I was hoping for something more prophetic or extraordinary. The premise is revealing and engaging; the romance is fated and passionate; the characters are dynamic and animated. IGNITE begins to prepare the readers for the end of the series-an end that will reunite several series and characters we have grown to love throughout the years.

Ignite by Donna Grant is book 15 in the Dark Kings Series. This is the story of Claire and Vlad 'V'. I have been jumping in and out of this series which haven't been to much of an issue but there is a underlining story that I think would have helped me along the way.
V is attracted to Claire from the start but she is human and he of course is not, so that puts doubts in him. They end up helping each other while their feelings start growing into more that neither can walk away from. Of course there is danger and doubts but for me this was a page turner that is very hard to put down.
I Love Ms. Grant's writing, she weaves a story where you feel that you are a part of it.

V is the dragon king the others worry about because his grip on reality is not solid. They think it is because his sword has been stolen from him and he can't remember how. With this new story featuring what happened to V, it becomes more alarming. There are enemies the Dragon King does not even know about.

I loved learning about V. He is a dragon who is confused and is not seeing any meaning to life. When he chances upon Claire, it is as if he suddenly awakens. He knows something about her is special and he is intent on finding out. Claire on the other hand is a strong female with quite the burden to carry. She's been tasked with a family secret which she struggles to understand. When she meets V, a chain of events generations in the making finally kick off.

This chain of events leads the reader on a merry chase across the world and through time. It is a page turner and kept me up all night reading. The richness of the story is a trademark of Ms. Grant and I enjoy every new story she's written in this series. The formula for the book is essentially the same. Dragon finds female. Female is wary of Dragon. Dragon is in denial. A threat materializes to possibly take said female away; Dragon freaks out and realizes he loves her. Simple in formula yet Ms. Grant weaves it with many delicious scenes. Her character building is strong as each of these Dragon Kings and their one are unique. They have similar circumstances yet they respond in different manners. The way the characters grow together and fall for each other is the sweet romance to balance out the terrible acts committed against this noble dragons.

With each story and each dragon lord I read about, I'm even more vested in this world. I can't exactly see a happily ever after here because there are so many forces working against the dragons. And the dragons are fighting muzzled and with their wings clipped so to speak. They won't raise a hand to their enemies and play dirty. Sometimes being the good guy does not mean winning at the end.

This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who love dragons, adventure and timeless love.

This novel is #15 in the series, "Dark Kings" by author; Donna Grant. I LOVED this story about the HOT Scottish alpha male that's able to shift into his natural form as a dragon. Man o Man....does the plot twist continue to thicken in this series and the surprises! -unbelievable! Seriously, this is one of the best series that I have read in a long time. The author pulls the reader into the world of dragons and other paranormal beings from the very 1st novel and keeps the reader completely enthralled with the fabulous writing, characters, action, suspense and romance. If you are in a book rut then this series and author are definitely worth your time! You won't be disappointed! It's definitely a dragon ride!

Ignite by Donna Grant
Dark Kings #15

Donna Grant has created a world that makes her readers want to return, find out what is happening next and then they eagerly await the next book in the series. The only series I have read all of, so far, is The Reapers and having read each and every one of those books I KNOW it well. Sure, some of the other worlds/series/groups might have been mentioned and have impacted The Reapers but it was a group that was easy to follow beginning to end. That said...I did NOT read the other books in the overall series (and looking on Goodreads now I see there are perhaps nearly fifty books total in the overlapping worlds/series). So…

* Dark Swords Series: I have not read any of the books in this series so have not a clue what they are about.
* Dark Warriors Series: None of those either
* Druids Glen Series: Again...not one read by me
* Dark Kings: now five of the fifteen
* Reapers: all of them

Now...it seems, after reading what I have read, this “world” is one populated by beings that are very interesting. They have their own myths and histories that sometimes overlap and create opportunities for interaction. A dragon might sleep for centuries then wake, find a mate and then the two will live happily for centuries together. Or, Druids might supposedly be all gone from the earth...or are they? And, there are light and dark Fae/fairies that impact humans and the rest of the universe(s). I have not a clue about the Warriors and Sword group so have no idea how they might (or might not) fit into what is coming AND...something IS coming. There is a fight that is building and who will be involved and what is at stake is still a bit blurry in my mind. I know that there are “The Others” who are in opposition to the dragons and some others but what their goal is and how they will be thwarted is...a mystery. And so, still unsure what has happened before and wanting to know what will come next and hoping that some of the characters I know already (that have not found their mates) will find a HEA...I will gladly read whatever book comes my way to read in hopes it will lead me to a conclusion for the dragons and all the rest. I mean...wouldn’t it be grand if the dragons sent away all return someday?

And there I know I have lost you BECAUSE if you have not read any of these books you won’t have a clue what I am talking about because….

This is a series better read from beginning to end (although I have not).

This book DID have a short synopsis that I am sure those who have read all books in the series shook their head over and skimmed rapidly and those who have read none of the previous books read and then scratched their heads over wondering what they had missed.

And...in the midst of the few mentions of what is happening in this fantasy universe there was a romance. V did meet his mate, Claire, and they had a great romance indeed. They do have a few issues to deal with related to one being a dragon and one being human but otherwise...a great romance to read.

I do have a question I hope will be resolved...how will dragons continue if the ones sent away cannot come back or are dead AND if the dragon kings cannot find mates to create progeny for them.

Anyway…

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Do I want to read more in this series? Yes
Do I wish I had read the series from beginning to end? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the Arc – This is my honest review.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

It’s still a strong romance and plot, but too much of the same pattern has been happening in this series and because it's book fifteen, I’m wondering if we will get a change sometime soon.

Nevertheless, IGNITE is a pleasant read that I think loyal fans will enjoy. I hope that with the next book in the series, Grant can step out of the box a little bit and give readers something new.

This is a book deep in a series of adult paranormal romances that all feature strong women falling for sexy Dragon King shifters.

Vlad is a Dragon King hailing from the Carpathian Mountains. He possessed a magic sword that enabled him to open bridges to other realms--like where the remaining dragons were sent eons ago when the human population became large enough to become a threat. The sword was lost centuries before and each time Vlad goes looking for it, a catastrophic disaster occurs--like the burning of Rome and the Black Plague. He and Roman, another King recently recovered the sword buried deep in an Icelandic mountain. Unfortunately, Vlad is struggling to hear and feel the magic of his sword. It seems to be gone, and with it any connection to the lost dragons.

Claire is a dear friend and co-worker with Sophie, a mate of another Dragon King. Claire knows about the Dragon Kings, though she isn't supposed to--the Kings thought they had wiped her memories of being attacked by Dark Fae, but they had survived. Claire is a lady who's been crapped on by love. And Vlad is a super helpful around the clinic. He'd been admiring Claire for a while, but finally makes a move when he's despondent about the sword.

Things click, and escalate--because the mates are all being drawn close to Draegan. They are circling their wagons expecting an attack from Usaeil, the Queen of the Light Fae, who seems to pulling the strings of The Others against the Dragon Kings. Constantine, King of all the Kings, has inexplicably gone missing and all the Kings and their mates are on the edge of frustration. It makes for fertile ground for a bond to grow between Claire and Vlad. It's a lightning strike of love, and it brings it's own magic--an unheard of pregnancy.

This book really brings the conflict of the overarching series to a fever pitch, while introducing a new couple of fated mates. I liked both Claire and Vlad, and the twist at the end really got me thinking about the lengths Usaeil will go to to have her way...with Constantine. We seem to be nearing the climax of the series, and I'm glad to see how it's all resolving. I'm eager to read on.

Disclaimer: I received an advance reader copy of this book via a giveaway. A review was requested, but not required.

I was extremely disappointed with this book. I had high hopes that Grant would be another paranormal romance author that I enjoyed, especially since Ignite is book 15 in the series and I love long running series. Unfortunately, this was a generic paranormal romance that focused on the romance to the exclusion of other story elements (plot, character development, setting, etc). The romance itself was the main storyline, and the series plotline was only very minimally developed. The first 2/3 of the book barely even touched on the series plot, and by the time I got to the last 1/3, where the series plot progresses somewhat, I was bored and ready to be done with the book. Claire is the only character that has much development at all, which is one of the only positive things I can really say in regards to this book. Claire's character is well written and relatable. Since I haven't read the previous 14 books, I'm willing to excuse the lack of character development for the other characters as their development may have occurred in previous books. However, V's character development in a book where he's one of the two main characters, was very lacking. Also of note is the lack of descriptions of the setting. V takes Claire to Dreagan manor, but there's no description of what the manor looks like. They enter the library at Dreagan, no description of the library is given, not even a generic one about the walls being lined with books. Claire sees V's bedroom for the first time, no description of the room is given. Like, I don't want an author to spend too much time describing the setting, but some type of description beyond just naming the type of room they're in is nice. I know some people enjoy their romance novels to primarily focus on the romance to the exclusion of other things, but I'm not one of them. This book, to me, felt like someone followed a generic paranormal romance novel template, where the romance was fully center stage to the exclusion of other important story elements. Just not my kind of book.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I think I want to collect this series in paperback in the future!

This is the 15th book in this series, but there are also several spin-off series that are in this same timeline. I recommend reading them all and in order if you can. I haven’t read them all, but I’m trying to get them all.

Donna Grant does a fantastic job story telling and pulling you into the world and the characters’ lives. I’m always rooting for the Kings, their mates, and their allies! I want to see them happy!

You learn so many cool awesome things in this book that you don’t want to miss it!! V. finds his mate and so much more, but I don’t want to give anything away! There is lots of excitement, action, and treachery from their enemies. It was an outstanding read! I can’t wait to see what happens next! There are still people who need mates and happiness as well as bad guys who need defeating! I need to know what happens!!

I highly recommend to any dragon shifter fans who love complex paranormal worlds filled with magic and mates! I love this series and Donna Grant’s writing! I can’t wait to see what comes next!

Another Dragon Kings book bites the dust and now it’s just a waiting game for the next one. I do think it was great that we were left wondering about Con and whether or not he let Usaeil kidnap him or if she really snuck up on him. Can’t wait for the next book.

I also liked the love story between Claire and V. There was so much going on that the two didn’t spend the entire book having sex. AND I liked the (Mis) Adventures of a Dating Failure Blog. I thought it was pretty sad and funny at the same time.

I’m looking forward to Con and Rhi’s stories books, I only hope they don’t talk silly and childish like authors are wont to do with their main characters when they have them fall in love. Just sayin’

Explicit sex and the F-bomb is used 13 times.

As to the narration: Audible reviewers have all 4- and 5-star reviews for Antony Ferguson and I don’t understand that. He’s barely okay. His women’s voices are terrible. Not only do they sound like men there is no emotions in his reading whatsoever, with his men or women. 15 books and he just refuses to work on his female voices. I don’t get it.

Another Dragon King meets and falls for his mate, though unwillingly to begin with. Claire had been around them for years now, though on the perifere, so she knows how formidable and outrageously alpha they can be. Especially V. The attraction that sizzles between them, the looks, the perfect date that takes her breathe away, it all makes her nervous. Relationships are not something she does. Or knows how to do. Especially when she has secrets. Obesity she should have divulged years ago. Atleast to Sophie. This one does not have that action pact vibe you can get with the previous ones. It has more of journey vibe. Secrets revealed and bonds forged, setting the stage for one massive punch next time I hope! Though this one does have a doozy of a development that I refuse to spoil! You definitely don't want to miss this one!

3.5 stars

If you don't like Insta love, paranormal, sex, or magic this book is not for you. If you haven't read any of the previous 14 books, I would not start here. This book deals with a lot of backstoy stuff and readers will be lost otherwise. Truthfully, when I started reading this series I almost gave up because in the earlier books there were some plot inconsistencies; however, I think a lot of the books have been updated. I am now fully invested and need to find out so many things like:
1) who is Rhi's king?
2) do they bring back the dragons?
And so many more questions but if I keep going it will spoil some of the story for people. If you like all the things I first mentioned then I think you will like this series but I do highly recommend starting at book one.

Oh and I only gave this book 3.5 stars because I just felt the first 1/3, maybe a bit more, of the book dragged a little. If I was just rating the last 1/3 I would have given it 5 stars.
