I have enjoyed reading the Freedom Lake Series by Toni Shiloh. Not only does she write beautiful stories, but she writes stories that are realistic, relatable, and full of faith. There are so many things going on in this book - in a good way. The Lord just pricked my heart while reading this, more so than any others in the series.

First, I was happy to see some old characters get married. I won't say which ones (Read it!), but I love it when beloved characters from a previous novel make a splash in the book. You get a sense of closure with that couple, plus they bring a lot of fun to the novel itself. Make no mistake though, Chloe and Darryl are awesome. Both of them struggling with their own demons (which I found in some instances to be pretty similar), they need to learn how to let go and forgive before they can move on. Not just in their relationship, but life in general. I think the most well written part of the whole story was when Darryl came to realize that what he was preaching to Chloe was something he needed to work on himself. Aren't we all like that a little bit? We point fingers and tell others what they should do, but don't take the time to apply it to ourselves. Talk about conviction! Yes, the
Lord can speak directly to your heart through Christian fiction and that is exactly what happened here for me.

I loved watching these characters grow, but what really made the story was a lot of the secondary characters. Jamie and Darryl's grandmother were my absolute favorite. Jamie's upbeat attitude was so infectious, even to me as a reader. You can't help but like her and feel drawn to her. And Darryl's grandmother was just a wealth of wisdom, whether you want to hear it or not. Shiloh always write secondary characters that you grow to love as much as the main characters and that is so important to the story for me. You can have wonderfully written main characters, but if the secondary characters are written as an afterthought, it just doesn't make a story for me.

Finally Accepted touches on several emotions and themes. Forgiveness. Selflessness. Keeping your eyes on the Lord. Grace. Love. I am sorry to see this series come to an end, but I plan on revisiting these characters whenever I can! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What a satisfying conclusion to a gripping series. I loved how all three books revolved around a bible study group and the deep friendships forged through the Word. Toni Shiloh writes grace into tough subjects, always pointing readers toward the Light.

Two emotionally wounded people, two rather messy families, a group of supportive friends, and a strong message about forgiveness, grace, and acceptance are what you’ll get when you pick up the third book in Toni Shiloh’s Freedom Lake series. Chloe and Darryl are characters we’ve been following since the beginning of this series, and there are developments in Chloe’s story, in particular, in the previous book in this series, Grace Restored, so if you want the full picture, I recommend reading this series in order. That said, this could be read as a stand-alone novel, too.

One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about this series is the strong faith element. With many of the characters being new or young Christians, they’re exploring some really foundational elements of what it means to live as a believer, and in many cases, from the vantage point of some difficult circumstances. Chloe was raised by her grandmother after her mother abandoned her as a baby, and at the beginning of this book, she’s only just found out who her father is and learned she has three half-siblings. Let’s just say things get harder before they get better…

Darryl’s situation is slightly different, but no easier—and unlike Chloe, who’s one of the few life-long believers in the group—Darryl is just beginning his Christian walk. Their journeys remind us that, no matter where we are in our walk with Christ, difficult times will come, and no matter what we do or don’t have in our earthly lives, God wants to be our all. And yet, he blesses us with all kinds of earthly love as well. There will be emotional moments, sweet moments, and one totally heart-stopping moment (no spoilers!) as you read this story. I hope we haven’t seen the last of Freedom Lake.

I received a copy of this novel from the author. This has not influenced the content of my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.

One of my favorite things about Toni Shiloh’s books is the way she writes such warm stories that also tackle tough issues. It’s not an easy balance to keep the tone friendly and relatable while also wrestling with emotional topics such as abortion, racial identity, abuse, etc. Even with heavy plot lines, the tone of the story never feels heavy itself.

Shiloh shines in this area once again with Finally Accepted. Chloe and Darryl are layered characters who are struggling to feel accepted – by God and by the ones they love. It shows up in different ways in each of them, but the driving force is very similar. Related to their insecurities, these characters also explore racial identity issues, specifically related to being biracial. This perspective was particularly intriguing to me, as a white woman. Chloe’s struggles with not knowing how to relate to herself anymore, with feeling like she wouldn’t be accepted by either race – these are all things that had never occurred to me before, and I so appreciate the author broadening my own perspective in the process.

The romance between Chloe and Darryl has been brewing since book one in the Freedom Lake series, and Darryl in love is just adorably awkward. Lol. He doesn’t know quite what to do with himself whenever Chloe is around – and Chloe is much the same way around Darryl. I very much enjoyed watching the two of them figure out what the rest of us have seen all along.

One final element that I loved about Chloe and Darryl’s relationship was watching them navigate the different steps in their journeys with Jesus. Chloe has been a believer for a long time but her faith is a little shaken by the news she’s received about her family. Darryl is just beginning his relationship with Jesus, and there are lots of ins and outs and ‘finer details’ that he doesn’t quite get yet. Shiloh does a great job here of authentically grasping the faith struggles that both encounter along the way – and framing it from the right perspective.

If you haven’t yet traveled to Freedom Lake, you really must ‘book’ a trip soon!

Finally Accepted was an emotionally charged, encouraging ending to the Freedom Lake series. I have now read all three books in this series and really enjoyed them all! If you have not read books one and two, you can probably follow along with Finally Accepted, however, the couples from books one and two do make frequent appearances in this novel.

Chloe and Darryl both struggled with feelings of abandonment from their childhoods. The abandonment circumstances were different, as were the way they both handled the feelings that grew from those events.

It was interesting to watch these two people finally acknowledge that they cared for each other, but that was just a portion of the story. Issues of forgiveness, anger, doubt, hurt, belonging, and fear played big roles in this novel and made for a very thought-provoking story.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Finally Accepted could have taken the road well traveled and Hallmarked its way to happily ever after (nothing wrong with that, lots of folks like the sweet fluff) but instead, Toni Shiloh gives us more (and that's what I like!) This story has substance, grit, and raw honesty. There is conflict and crisis, doubt and defiance, and both fledgling and faltering faith threads. Shiloh shapes each character with authentic complexities, secrets, and flaws.

The Freedom Lake series is a gust of fresh air in my reading lineup, boldly faith-filled and genuine. Well done, Ms. Shiloh, and thank you.

Author Toni Shiloh writes the most beautiful, heartfelt, encouraging stories. This one is another gem. Family secrets, past mistakes, forgiveness, trust, love and hope are some of the topics in this story. Each time I read a story by this author, I feel a connection to the characters and their town. Great read. I received a copy of this story from the author and this is my own personal opinion. No review was required.

Can two broken and abandoned people ever find acceptance?

My rating is 4.5 stars

I have come to expect deeply touching stories from Toni Shiloh. She has a knack for wrapping her characters around my heart and having me feel their pain and cheer for their victories. Finally Accepted did not disappoint.

As Chloe and Darryl fought to deal with their abandonment issues and Darryl with his overwhelming guilt, I was drawn to their struggles. Seeing Darryl grasp the concept of being ""chosen before the foundation of the world"" and learning about acceptance and true forgiveness was only the start. Watching him grow in his faith was encouraging and as often is the case with new believers, convicting.

Chloe had faith struggles and questions about where she belonged, especially after discovering the truth about who her father was. Like so many of us who have been Christians any length of time, she struggled with her image of God and why He would allow her to suffer.

Rich and timeless truths were shared in such a natural and beautiful way.

One of the things I enjoyed in the story is the way the author created such tension between the characters - merely by having them in the same room. The way Chloe was slightly awkward and either ran on at the mouth or couldn't think of a thing to say. The way that Darryl's palms got sweaty just being around her. Theirs was an endearing love born out of years of friendship.

Finally Accepted was full of painful situations and a huge need for forgiveness. There are parts related to domestic violence, so be aware of that if it might be a problem area for you. All these are handled tactfully and without details that aren't necessary to the story.

It has been a while since I have read the other books in the Freedom Lake series so I had forgotten some of the details. I did not feel lost and while it might have been good to re-read those before starting this one, this story easily stands alone.

Hannah with Calamity Jane, the horse. The bond the two developed was beautiful.

The chili cook-off

The grand gesture (and believe me when I say it was needed!)

If you enjoy Western-themed romance, Her Last Chance Cowboy is sure to please.

Wow! Toni Shiloh has done it yet again, just when I think her books couldn't possibly get any better, they do! I have been eagerly anticipating Chloe and Darryl's story ever since first meeting them in Returning Home, and Finally Accepted was so beyond amazing that it shattered every one of my sky-high expectations! Seriously, I am having a super hard time finding the words to say just how much I LOVED this book.
I was completely enthralled and invested in the story from the start and hated to set it down! Chloe has been one of my favorite characters since the beginning of the series and it was so great to read her story and get inside her head, I wish she was real because I think we would be best friends! And Darryl, wow, what a hero! He totally made me MELT, and I think he is my favorite hero Toni has written to date!
The faith story in Toni's books always challenges and inspires me in my own walk with Jesus, and Finally Accepted was no exception. God spoke to my heart in so many ways through this book, and the message was a reminder I needed, so much so that there were moments I felt like this story had been written just for me!
This story took the characters and myself on an emotional roller coaster ride, it has all the feels and I loved every second of it!
I don't want to risk giving anything away so I will finish by saying that I loved, loved, LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH! A sigh of happiness escaped my grinning lips as I turned the final page. Finally Accepted is going to be on my list of favorite reads of 2018 and I know I will be rereading it many times in the future! If you haven't read any of Toni's books yet, what in the world are you waiting for?! I highly recommend them all!

I have enjoyed every story in the Freedom Lake series! Toni Shiloh puts an enormous amount of heart, truth and the love of God into everything she writes. This heart-wrenching story of two people searching for the love of family and for acceptance is sure to give you a clearer image of our Father and his amazing love for us all!

Chole and Darryl are two people longing for family, for grace and acceptance. In truth, that is all something that we each long for. In learning to rely more fully on God, to wait on His perfect timing we can come to grow in our relationship with God.

This story wraps up the series beautifully, teaches us lessons, and invites us to draw closer to God. I give this wonderful story 4 stars and would encourage you to grab a copy and settle in for a delightful story that is sure to warm your heart!

A beautiful story of broken people who are healed by the Great Physician. The characters battle their past, complicated relationships, absent parents, and so many other heart issues...and a physical one, too.

A book that speaks to the heart and teaches about the ever presence of a Heavenly Father in his children who wants the best for them. They don’t always see it that way...which is so true in life. Despite the doubts, the characters come to realize that God is in control; and that he has their best interests in His Divine plan.

The book has wonderful characters, sweet scenes, and a wonderfully beautiful faith theme.

I received this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I have read all of Toni’s Freedom Lake novels. Finally Accepted is a contemporary read with true to life characters who exist in a society full of imperfections. Both Chloe and Darryl struggle with their place in family relationships, in families that have rejected them and fallen short of the ideal. They do not want to pursue any outside permanent relationship for fear of inadequacies and not feeling good enough. This story is a beautiful picture of dysfunctional families able to break through to the wonderful arena of love through changed lives.

This is my favorite story, favorite hero, and favorite heroine of everything Toni Shiloh has published to date. I somehow knew all the way back to Returning Home, the first book in the Freedom Lake series, that Darryl and I had a connection. I wasn't wrong. Sigh. He's my latest book boyfriend. Read it, and I'll bet that he'll become one of yours too.

The author has written a wonderful story about acceptance and believing in yourself. Chloe is trying to accept the fact that she is bi-racial. She is a very down to earth person who finds out that she has siblings she never knew about. Her heart is heavy at times because she wants to be liked by her new found family but still struggles with how they will react to her. She also has a deep rooted image problem and will need to trust God to overcome this obstacle that has plagued her life.

Darryl is a doctor who likes Chloe but he needs to deal with something from his past. Being abandoned by his mother has caused him to hold back on relationships including a relationship with God. I loved this statement from his grandmother; " Time waits for no one. Once it's passed you can't get it back. It does something to a person, being filled with regrets, sorrow, anger....dare I even add bitterness." I have been in that position where I have held on to things from the past, which has caused me to become bitter and a loner.

One of the things that really hit home for me was the turmoil both characters had with their parents. I know very well about violence in a home and for Darryl having to witness that has caused him to be so careful around women. He doesn't want to be anything like his father. He knows he must forgive both his parents, but he is still holding on to bitterness. Chloe has similar issues with her parents but hers is more emotional abuse which has left her wanting so bad to be loved.

The author does a phenomenal job of showing readers the importance of forgiving. It is hard at times to walk through but once you do, freedom and joy are waiting. How many times have we thought we were not good enough? Have you always thought that God could not possibly love you? Both of the main characters face decisions that could either heal their broken heart or cause them to miss out on knowing the unconditional love of God. If you have not read a book from this author, you are missing out on stories that capture the true heart of a forgiving God who gives each of us grace and mercy.

Where to begin, oh, where to begin…that’s a good kind of hesitation because there are so many wonderful things to say about Finally Accepted. I know everyone is just dying to know if the characters were realistic and if the setting was described down to the flowerpots on the sidewalk and did the plot make sense…the answers to those questions are yes, yes, and yes. Good, now we can move on to the fun part.

Finally Accepted is the first book by Toni Shiloh that I have ever read. It is also part of a series, and it’s not book one of the series. I know, I know! I created a wormhole in the book world by jumping into the middle of a series. Don’t flog me yet, there is a method to the madness. You see, I’ve learned something since I started reviewing books. You can learn a lot about an author’s skill by jumping into the middle of a series where you have no idea who anyone is or what has happened. If they can catch you up and make you love the characters from the middle of the series, then you’re golden. Not all authors can do that…

Toni Shiloh hit it out of the park, in my opinion. There were several characters that I had to get to know, and she introduced them in a way that immediately felt natural and helped me grasp the who’s who of Freedom Lake. Chloe and Darryl are the highlight of Finally Accepted as they work through the brokenness of growing up without parents. Their heartache was real, and it was powerful. Emotions jumped straight off the page.

For me, a good Christian Fiction book makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. A great one challenges me to be a better Christian while running my emotions through the gauntlet. Finally Accepted is a great one. In other words, it’s getting five stars.

Identity is such a complex concept. There are innumerable puzzle pieces that somehow fit together to make up who we believe we are. When vital pieces go missing or are suddenly transformed in ways we no longer see fit, it can be devastating. Having someone close by your side who will walk you through those changes though? Priceless.

I think this is a book that different readers could have very different take-aways from. When Chloe learns that she is biracial, she deals with some identity-shattering emotions. I can't understand this myself, but I appreciate the opportunity to get a glimpse of how it might feel. Three of my siblings-in-law are biracial. They were all adopted as babies and raised in a Caucasian home. Unlike Chloe's character, they were aware from the time they were young. One of my sisters-in-law has shared some similar emotions to what Chloe expresses in the beginning of this story so I was very quickly sucked in hoping to understand more. It's why this element to the story is stuck in my mind the most.

My favorite character in this book was Jamie, Chloe's biological half sister. She adds just the right amount of spunk wherever she goes. She doesn't care what the color of Chloe's skin is but instead is simply excited over having another sister to add to the family. Not only is she Chloe's encourager, but also her protector. She speaks up for her and refuses to allow others to look down on her or treat her disrespectfully. She's the type of sister everyone wishes they had (if they don't already of course).

This was the third book in the Freedom Lake series but it's the first one I read. I felt that it was easily read as a stand-alone. I felt that the characters were well developed and realistic. The vulnerability they expressed was a lesson in empathy. I definitely plan to read more from the author in the future!

If you are looking for some diverse Christian fiction that tackles some difficult subject matter while a realistic romance occurs and friendships strengthen, look no further than Toni Shiloh.

In her latest Freedom Lake novel, both of Shiloh’s main characters are struggling with their identities at formed by their families (or more accurately, lack thereof). Chloe has just discovered her father and half siblings while Darryl’s mother has returned to town, after a sixteen-year absence. New to faith, Darryl is learning to lean into God’s hands and plans while Chloe (who has known the Lord since childhood) struggles in her faith and the challenges she is facing.

Chloe and Darryl’s stories parallel each other in many ways and together, they are walking this road as they also explore a brand new relationship with each other. I loved how these two challenge and strength each other every step of the way in this book. They aren’t afraid to lay their thoughts out there to the other, yet they do it in a kind and loving way.

At the heart of this book is the message that no matter our families, whether good, bad, or absent, we each have a Father who will never leave us. We are always and forever children of God.

The Freedom Lake Series has been a wonderful series to read. I love the community and all the characters in these books. I feel like they’re family.
In this story, we get to know Chloe and Darryl more. They both are struggling with their personal identity and the image of what “family” looks like. Both had difficult years while they were growing up. But the friendships they made in school with, Jo, Michelle, Evan, and Guy are ones they draw upon now as adults. They are hit by intense events in their lives and the lessons they need to learn. With the help of their friendships and God, they start to see what really matters in life. I loved how the author, Toni Shiloh, brings so many life lessons into her stories. This one is about knowing our past is just that, the past. I love this quote she wrote,

“He chuckled, rubbing his chin. “I know, but still. My past.”
“Is that. The past. Keep it there and move on with the grace God is offering you.”

Wow, we all need to remember this from time to time. It’s God’s grace and love we need to hold on to. There were many more deep life lessons in this story, some I’ll take and think about for a long while.
I laughed, I cried, and I truly loved every moment I was reading this book and hope you will too. I highly recommend you pick it up and read it.

Chloe is caught between two worlds. She grew up identifying as black and when she finds out he father is Caucasian finds her identity in turmoil. I can’t imagine being in the place where what I believed about myself my whole life was called into question. Chloe wrestles with finding her identity in God rather than her skin color or genetics. She wrestles with loss, bullying, rejection, and doubt that God is a good Father.

Darryl struggles with accepting that he is good enough with God’s grace. I like how throughout the story he is continually compassionate and fights to overcome his past though he does not see it. So many of us do things that we think will make up for past wrongs and earn favor with God, not truly believing that His grace is offered freely and that nothing we can do will earn His mercy.

I enjoyed watching Chloe and Darryl’s relationship develop as they both sought God and what it meant to follow Him in the bad as well as the good, how they held each other accountable for dealing with their relationship with God and their families. I was reminded of Biblical truths about who I am in Christ and I know that He’ll reveal something to you as well in the reading.

4.5 stars for this newest addition to the Freedom Lake series. It’s book 3 in the series but can be read as a stand-alone. This book is so much more than just the romance between Chloe and Darryl that’s been blossoming since high school. It’s about the deep hurt of rejection from family, true acceptance and forgiveness, redemption and God’s unending grace and mercy. Toni Shiloh addresses quite a few tough issues in this book with grace, tactful skill, and honest, raw emotions.
Chloe and Darryl are broken, hurting people because of abandonment by their parents; even though Chloe is a Christian and Darryl is not at the beginning of the book, their hurt, pain, and anger are the same. Despite their brokenness, they are bright, upbeat, and loving people trying to come to terms with their past suffering and the people who’ve caused it. Their journey to healing, though bumpy and difficult, is beautiful.
If you enjoy a well-written contemporary romance with a wonderful theme of redemption and forgiveness, you will enjoy this book. Toni Shiloh has a gift for bringing sweet love stories to life. Her characters seem so realistic and find themselves in interesting situations, making for fun plots. This book is no exception, and the circumstances are a bit unusual but intriguing. I also appreciate the insights into characters of color—and we are all so much alike anyway. In this novel, she handled both black and white perspectives equally well.

Chloe longs for a family, but the one she finds connections with certainly surprise her. The book deals with both rejection and acceptance as well as relationships of various kinds. Chloe’s work as an interior decorator offers added interest, but most important is her faith.

I appreciate a book I can enjoy, learn from, and grow with, as do the characters within it. You do not have to have read any of her other books before this one. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

Trending author, Toni Shiloh, has released the third and final installment of her Freedom Lake Series. I encourage you to read the entire series. Shiloh does an incredible job writing books that contain diversity in a positive light.

Threading through this book is the desire for love and acceptance. We see it in the very well developed characters who are written so true to life. And we see that love and acceptance being fulfilled through our God as Chloe and Darryl grow and learn to trust Him as well as the people in their lives.

Some of the characters are new Christians, so you’ll see a basic “teaching” in foundational truths that will encourage the reader in their own walk with Christ. But in no way is this story “preachy”. It’s full of the honest ups and downs of life.

Heartwarming and inspiring, I highly recommend it!

Finally accepted

Chloe finds out who her read father is but actually meets her sister Jamie first. She is the only one that will have anything to do with her at first. She does have other siblings that she has yet to meet.

The book also involves Darryl who has a lot from his past to deal with. He is a doctor mainly for little ones. I love how caring he is. Chloe meets Darryl through friends. They have a lot to work out with their families before getting involved.

I really enjoyed both the main characters of Chloe and Darryl. A very inspirational story. At times a very emotional book but just means the writer know how to get us involved in the book .

I LOVE this story! It was great to return to Freedom Lake and see how Chloe and Daryl put their trust in the Lord and seek His guidance for the paths of their lives. Family can be tricky and sometimes it's hard to know how to navigate relationships, especially ones that are as complicated as Chloe's and Daryl's.

Toni Shiloh has a wonderful way of mixing a great story with the Word of God. There's always a spiritual lesson and it always touches my heart in one way or another. Sometimes it's just a reminder of a lesson I've already learned or it's looking at the character's Bible studies and gleaning something new from there.

I received a copy of this novel from the author and the thoughts and opinions of this review are my own.

Toni Shiloh is an author I have been hearing about the last few months and I had been wanting to read one of her books. So this is the first I have read by her and I loved it, even though it is book three of a series.

Like I mentioned, Finally Accepted, is book three in the Freedom Lake series.
As I started with the end of the series, it took me a little bit to get into the story as I had to figure out who everyone was. But I didn’t feel as if I missed out on much by not reading the other books first. This book does stand well on it’s own.

This is a well written book, warm and emotional. The characters are well-rounded, and beautifully flawed. The plot was engaging, all the details drew me in.

I loved this story and am now going back to read the rest of the series.

Superb!

Oh, my gosh.i have loved all of Toni's books, but this was definitely my favorite. She just gets better the more she writes. Chloe and Darryl's story was filled with love, grace, forgiveness and so many real and raw emotions. It warmed my heart and brought me to tears. If you love deep, heartfelt romance with characters to love, and writing that points to a loving, grace-filled God, you'll definitely love Toni's stories. She's on my best-loved authors list! Can't wait to see what's next.

Darryl and Chloe's story was amazing. Chloe greatest desire came through but at what cost. Darryl struggle with actions of his past and cannot let go of it to have a future. Two flawed characters that God used to help us to see that He is into transforming us by our circumstances, struggles and relationships. I cannot wait to get this whole series in paperback. I want others to read these stories and be inspired. One of the reasons I love this series is that I can relate to the issues these character face as an African American woman. Toni is one of my favorite authors.
