Having been on the run for most of her life, Dani has no idea what to expect when she moves to yet another school. She thinks it’ll be like any other place she’s lived. She’ll have to endure a few grueling months of being picked on by the ‘mean girls,’ and maybe having a fling or two with a human. But what she doesn’t expect is to be confronted on the first day by a wolf claiming to be her mate. Her father has no choice but to reveal the truth about who she really is and why they spent their lives hidden from the wolves, only now returning because it’s time for her to reclaim her birthright.
Join Dani as she learns about a world she had been kept from her whole life. Over the course of the story, she meets multiple mates and is faced with the impossible choice of choosing one to lead with her as part of the Alpha Pair. But how can she choose just one, when she loves them all?
This Book is One in the Wolf Trials Series and is the newly edited/revised copy.
Hi Everyone. If you're reading this, it means you want to know more about me, which is good because I like to share. Let's see, I'm a 24 year old writer who started writing because the voices in my head told me to. I would have dream after dream that would play on repeat until I would write them out. And that's how most of my books are born. It all starts with a dream. um what else? I'm a big dog lover. I have a little shih Tzu called Mikey who likes to pop up on my Facebook page during giveaways. I have a beautiful little girl, Allison who has started her first year of school this year. She loves reading just as much as I do and seems to enjoy paranormal too. Feel free to Facebook stalk me to find out anything and everything about me
The story itself had me hooked right away, but the huge blocks of uninterrupted dialog was really jarring and there were times when I had to re-read to specifically look for the closing quotation mark because it was so hard to tell where the speaking ended and the internal dialog started. There were a few autocorrect errors, but those were minor. A good read though, with fun characters and I look forward to the next book.

The only reason I have given this 3.5 stars rather than 4 stars, is due to poor editing and portions that would have benefited from further finessing both in terms of execution and sophistication. Nothing, however, is preventing me from sticking with a good story and burrowing on to the next book.
Her Mates begins when Dani and her father move to a new town. She is not expecting to meet other werewolves there, and she's for sure not expecting to meet her mate. But when she does she finally learns the truth about what she is, and what she will have to do.
She not only has one potential mate, but she has six total. And she has to have them compete to become the Alpha Queen, while she has to do her own trials as well. Dani will need to do her best and keep her mates safe even if she can't choose between them.
This book was very good! I enjoyed the whole plot, and I adored Dani. I thought the whole book was very interesting, and I'm looking forward to more.
However, I was a little bit annoyed with how it seemed like Dani was only allowed one mate, especially when it states in the book that since there are so few females that most others have more than one. It was a bit frustrating putting a limit on the Alpha Queen and drove me nuts.
And I really didn't like the fact that Dani could boss everyone around, and was more powerful than any wolf alive yet she had to adhere to the "councils" rules. That didn't make sense to me, and it was annoying.
But now after that cliffhanger-ish ending I'm excited for more!
I was really looking forward to a YA RH set in high school with some teen drama and OTT mean girls. Don't judge me...haha. At the start of the book this is exactly what I got. Why not a higher rating? I had trouble connecting to the story and the characters. Instead of feeding my inner teen drama queen, I was struggling to continue reading. I think the biggest issue is that with the little bits of information our MC is given regarding her mother's trials it is apparent that some if not all the elders are corrupt. Though she has a couple of thoughts regarding one of the elders, this is never mentioned. She has the ability to make people give the truth so why doesn't make this connection and get the information? I suspect because there wouldn't be a need for additional books if the villains were so easily identified. Also, everyone lets Luke live. I am sure that someone is going to help him escape and we will see him in future books. Since I didn't find these actions logical or believable it kept me from connecting. I am interested enough to read the next book but I hope that obvious information and threats aren't overlooked as this makes the MC seem unintelligent.
I liked and also hated this book all in one, I mean I read on because I wanted to see where this book was heading, I liked the male counterparts and also the storyline but our main girl dani was hard to even like without wanting to choke her to be honest. the way she was perceived in this book left a bad taste in my mouth, She was a brat, ignorant throughout the book, and her badass came off just arrogant and eye rolling. This book reads about a girl named Dani and her finding out she's really royalty within her kind, secrets have been held to protect her and although I can see why this has a effect on her and upsets her, the stomping a foot and becoming b**chy with ppl made me dislike her. this read continues on with this slow burn RH when she meets her potential mates she is told she will have to choose just one out the 6, she doesn't want to get close so it's a tug of war in her head battle how much she likes them, but no she can't because she doesn't want to choose, it becomes very obvious that everyone including the damn ancestors don't want her to choose at all, but for some reason ol blondy is the only one not getting it and it's just aspirating. But there are a few stolen kisses with them where I think yay!! She's not going to let anyone tell her s***, but oh no, afterwords she chastise herself for doing it, I felt bad for the guys because every time they feel a little affection from her she apologizes and says it should have never happened, but as she is caught kissing one of them and is also chastised for it she snaps off saying how am I to get to know them, it's freaking confusing to say the least. We also see that she is strong and beating up everyone because she's just that badass and she knows it, but yet when meeting ppl she's scared and nervous, it was giving me whiplash, she was tuff then not, and this happens many times in the book. Then she starts getting powers that none of us seen coming that just so happens to be conveniently what she needs to force the bad guys to talk (eyerolling). I also want to point out when she was reading her mom's letting and after she complained about how cryptic it was and why can't ppl just spell it out already, Jesus! I mean it is from you're dead mom who fought to the death to protect you and write it the day before her death after just giving birth to you 5 days ago, I'm not sure if you should get all complaining and bratty, But this is just a tidbit into the kind of character this dani is.
You’ve read this before, and in not just talking about the pure-edited version. It’s the same story we’ve seen countless times in this growing genre, tweaked just enough to hold its own, almost. Over powered lost princess with a destiny, powerful mates, a murdered mother, power hungry fool.... you know the tale. That said, this was still a fun read, if rather fast on the information aspect. It feels like the narrative was crushed into 1 book when this should have been 2, speeding up events and revelations to fit the fast paced presentation. It was... interesting. Much of World building and revelation is given during long winded dialogue or silent musings that span pages.
Pros: - I like the FMC. - if you want all the details, right now, this fits the bill.
Cons: - Too fast. No build up, either in world building or emotional punch. - explanations are incredibly long and detailed, but mostly delivered in dialogue, without the nuances of general speech patterns.
It's been a little while since I read this one, so some of the details have become a little fuzzy, but overall it was a bit of a mixed bag. Had potential - the MC was a take-no-guff sassy girl, the harem had potential, the basic concept was good (though hardly unique).
But it didn't come close to living up to that potential. It was let down by two huge issues:
1) The proofing and editing was horrendous. It was filled with typos and mistakes and poor grammar that made it really difficult to get immersed in the story.
2) It was a little...undercooked. Undeveloped. Perhaps, in part, due to the short length?
My guess is I may come back to this and give it another go at some point and then read book 2 to see if it develops any further. Maybe.
This is one of the best books I’ve read . So much going on . Dani has been told her whole life to Steer clear of werewolves but when she happens to meet one one the first day of school she goes in survival mode. Turns out her dads been keeping secrets from her. Their all about to come out . I can’t wait for the next book.
I’ve recently just reread Her Mates and enjoyed it just as much as the first time (I’m prepping for the release of book 3).
We follow Dani on her journey to fulfilling a prophecy and legacy that she knows nothing about until she turns 17 and her mates start turning up. She goes through so much in this book, I am always desperate for her to catch a break! But then I realise she does catch one, she meets her mates, ALL of her mates and they in true fated mate style are exactly what she needs. I definitely recommend giving this series a try 💕
This is a slow burn YA reverse harem PNR book and is book 1 of 3 (as I post this, book 3 is yet to release).
I'm sorry I wanted to really like this book because it has a solid foundation. The story is too chatty making the story long and boring. Also the idea of a 17 year old girl and 5 life mates is just disgusting. I tried to fast forward to the end and gave up. This story is all over the place and lacks focus.
I love the idea of a reverse harem but,why build one around a girl soo young ? A girl who's supposedly had sex but yet even by the end of the blushes at the thought of seeing her mat s naked, even though she's a shifter and needs to leave the room to shift into her wolf, lest they see something ?!?!? Dear lord really ? Really ?!? 6 mates for a 17 girl ? Why ? Why can't she be at least a lil older ? She's says in head head once she's have sex but the way she acts like a blushing virgin you'd never ever know.... it just don't need a lot of sex in my books but seriously what the point of a "harem" reverse or other wise if their more just good buddies or pals more then anything else ... She barely does anything than a kiss ,... would have a story where a man had a "harem" of girls at the same age and he ran being nothing but basically platonic with them ?!? No, chances are he'd be at least in his mid twenties at least and he'd be with as many as could is he could is often as he could... No ,good romance is about just sex and but if a woman is gonna be blessed w/at least a half doz. sexy men she should at least be old enough where that's part of the bargain .... Otherwise ,it reminds of a quote I saw on Pinterest ," That's like hooker, who just wants to cuddle". Nothing against hookers per say but kinda misses the point .... That though on secondary on the annoying scale if you count isn't the fact most of the time the punctuation " around " sentences and phrasing was missing and one characters words tended to almost run into another's and could be rather confusing as to who was talking from one time to another ... Also annoying was she having soo many mates and characters and ONLY her pop til the epilogue ... Sighs not bad on the whole I guess but really didn't do it for me... I honestly see the point of a girl have soo many men especially a type who acts like a naïve blushing virgin despite what she says... Seriously to get to the bed and she still after all they'd been through to not want to let see her change ? Sighs No thanks...
Pros: it's my favorite genre!! Yay reverse harem! It had a moderately decent plot idea (plot still needed some major work and organization), and finally a heroine who doesn't describe herself as bad ass yet never seems to be...that's right! Our Dani is a badass!
Cons: oh boy where to begin... I'm lenient on the grammar and misspelling mistakes since indie authors tend to not have funds for that....but this could have used at least some form of proofreading from SOMEONE. There were "conversations" in this book that were just giant monologues. Seriously. And said monologues invoked no feelings from me, none. We got tragic back stories right away with no lead ins, and because of a lack of character development those tragic back stories were useless. The emotions that I think were suppose to be conveyed in the story didn't seem to fit (a person laughing in a situation no one would ever laugh in, etc). Plot holes, terrible transitions, no group or even paired off relationship development. There was also a serious lack of adjectives and descriptions...except her clothes...most described objects in the whole book....
Anyways, I had high hopes (it came praised in our fb group) and I was severely disappointed. I will not invest in the second book, I don't think this series can be salvaged. I will keep an open mind for this author in hopes there is some improvement in her writing and story telling.
I don't even know what to say right now I'm speechless and a book has never done that to me before!!! The way takes wrote this was beyond perfect. Every word flows perfectly and every character was built to perfection but not one character was perfect they each had their own flaws and emotional past but they way she wrote each character was written flawlessly!! I couldn't put this book down. If I absolutely had to I basically ran back to pick it back up. Anyone who hasn't read this book Absolutely has to! It's the best book I've read all year. By far one of my favorites! Astounding job Tamara! <3
Oh my gosh! Its like a wolf shifter version of Fallen Crest series. I love this book. I read all night and as soon as I woke up, and between cooking pancakes. I sure hope book two is finished. You can't find a more satisfying read. The temptations of romance is all throughout. If you want sexual tension with drop dead gorgeous guys, this is the series for you.
Great characters gets and a plot that books you early made this an awesome read. You end up adoring each guy.I wish they had been introduced ed better but they are so great it really doesn't matter. Even better the heroine is no shrinking vio!et.
I have had this book sitting in my kindle for awhile now and just decided to read it. I am so glad that I did because it was so good! The storyline line and the characters were phenomenal! I absolutely enjoyed reading this book that I read it in three days. I will say however, it does lose a star because the typos in the book were very disappointing. A few of them made it hard to read or decipher the excerpt that it's a part of. That was the only downside to the book.
The storyline of this book was so intriguing. The prologue and epilogue definitely got me hooked in every way possible. It definitely made me want to read this book and now I am not going to waste any time starting the second book. As you go through the story there is no way of guessing what could happen. The plot twists and turns work so well and really makes the book a page turner.
The characters are just so lovable and easy to identify with. White does an excellent job of leaning your thoughts and opinions of the characters to probably how she wants you to. It not a bad thing, and I do enjoy being persuaded then eventually forming my own opinions. I will admit, it doesn't happen too often, but the characters that you're "not meant to like" are still really good characters that you can't help but to like that character.
The action with the storyline is good. It moves and its action. The romance is a good amount. It's the forefront of the story but it's not overwhelming, which I appreciate. It also helps to know that the story is being written from a teenager's perspective which explains the language. My absolute favorite thing about this book is that the wolf is her own entity and she plays a big role in the book. I don't want to give too much away so that's all I'll say about that. Over all, despite the terrible typos, this is a good book with a good storyline and great characters. Definite page turner.
I don’t think I have read anything from this author before but I did enjoy the start of this trilogy. The plot was somewhat stereotypical (prophecy to save the shifter race, the evil shifter who manipulated others to attain power) yet has its own unique twists to it such as the wolf trials and the backstory of how shifters came about.
I really like Dani as a female character. She is strong and the author actually made it to be that Dani is stronger than her mates and is more dominant. Not a typical concept within wolf shifter books but I enjoyed this little twist. I love all of her mates and even though there are 6 of them, which can be confusing and overwhelming for me depending on how the book is written, the author really took the time to develop each of them. I can easily point out their differences and similarities. Now the relationship development is not as great as the character development but based on this book’s timeline, not much time has passed so I’m sure that will become more of a focus as the series continues. This book mainly focused on Dani learning and adjusting to the whole Alpha Pair concept and the werewolf society and the politics that go along with it. Her mates are by her side through all of it but they rarely have enough free time where they can just spend quality time together. The foundation for a strong relationship with all of them is there but will hopefully be expanded more in the next book to help to forge those relationships.
The ending left me feeling pretty heartbroken for Dani but I know she will come out of this stronger than before. I’m excited to read the next book to learn more about Dani and her journey with her men as they earn their rights to be Alpha Queen and Kings.
I feel like i waited forever for this book to come out, i was looking forward to it that much!
I'm so glad that it didnt disappoint!! I loved every second that i read about Dani and her potential mates. I actually read it twice within as many days so that i could re-live the awesomeness that is Her Mates. The Rh genre is something i've only discovered since the beginning of the year and i can honestly say it continues to surprise me. Her Mates is no different, it was inventive and creative, well written and had engaging characters, plus multiple yummy book boyfriends, who would say no to that? I loved all of Dani's guys, and what i loved equally as much, was her relationship with her dad. The genuine connections that were almost palpable really impressed me. I just wish it were longer! i didn't want it to end!! Dani being the Queen Heir and her Harems own resume provides for an interesting mix, and i loved it! I loved that whilst Dani was more Alpha, each of the men were still very strong and had their own level of dominance. I wish that some of the trials had been drawn out a little more, but at the same time, i'm also really happy where this particular part of the story was cut off. That being said, the ending absolutely destroyed me! Why Tamara! Why would you do that to me! All in all, Her Mates was well written, engaging, funny, steamy and all kinds of awesome.
I can only be happy that i'm in Tamara readers group on facebook, so we get little teasers every now and again hahah. I am beyond excited to read Her Protectors! I need it ASAP!!
Her Mates by Tamara White. 4 out of 5 stars. This is a new werewolf series that just caught my eye. It centers around a young girl called Danielle who is a werewolf that hasn't shifted yet. Most wolves have had their first shifts by the time they are sixteen, at the latest, but Dani has turned seventeen now and just started a new school - again. Her mother was the Alpha Queen and according to werewolf society, had taken part in the mate trials, where different mates step forward to make themselves known to be her soul mates. Blair had chosen Greg to be her Alpha king alongside her, but on the coronation day they are tricked by a jealous contender and have to run for their lives. Dani's mother is murdered shortly after giving birth to her but begs her mate to raise their child and only take her back when it is time for her own trials and she is ready. Within two days at her new school, six mates have made themselves known to her and they still don't know who she really is. It's time for her father to explain all to them. The thing I loved about this book was the twist in the identity of her mates, who exactly were they and who were their fathers? I'd recommend this book to others into werewolf stories and can't wait for "Her Protectors (Wolf Trials, book 2) which apparently is almost ready to be released.
I had heard a lot of good things about Her Mates and was super excited to see the sale last week (couldn't help purchasing the book!). I definitely was not prepared for it when I started it yesterday. Gotta admit, it was a tough day at work today, since I had a hard time going to bed/couldn't stop reading (wohooo 3 hours of sleep!). I am extremely excited to get to know more about the different mates in this series. I keep changing who is my favorite, but definitely have a soft spot for Jason, Pete, and Cam. I loved the society Tamara presented. I recently have started reading more books with wolf shifters and RH's and this had one of my favorite settings/societies so far.
Dani is pretty kickass, loved how she brought males around her down a peg or two when they continued to underestimate her. I think she will be humbled with what the future holds, but her mates will be there for her and the strength of their love will only grow and grow. I hope we get novellas or side stories about some of the side characters. I think there are so many things to touch on that we would all love/be quick to read (especially Jake/Rick and Malina/James). Can't wait for Her Protectors!!!I highly recommend this series <3
The story starts off from Dani's parents POV with a tragic beginning. Cut to 17 years later and the story continues from Dani's POV. A teen who has been constantly on the move so they aren't discovered by other wolves, suddenly she is supposed to be introduced to a pack. While stressing about a new school, a new town, being unable to shift and worrying about other wolves she comes across her 1st mate. The next day she discoveres a few more, 1 of them a surprise as he isn't a student. While seeing the males introduced to her father she realizes just how unprepared she is for what's to come. She's probably right. This book has all the elements to make the beginning of a great series. Although sex is mentioned (only kissing occurs in the book) it seems geared towards a younger audience. I'm not sure how a teen, or group of teens, are all alphas and will be handed a throne and total control of all wolves. It seems a stretch. There are grammatical errors and phrasing that is a bit off, too. Another question I have, one of the mates is a teacher. At 19yo? No mention of early graduation, just that he was appointed by the principal-who is conveniently the pack alpha. I have other questions, too, but they would be spoilers.
First of all, I want to point out that the writing here was much better than in Tamara White's other series, which was a really pleasant surprise. The story was easy to read, I liked the plot, and there were some events that I did not predict (which is a plus). The only issue I had with this book is the relationship development (or lack of it). Friendship, yeah, I liked the way it developed between the characters, it felt rather natural. But I did not see the building of some deeper feelings, In my opinion there was no ground for the 'I love you's'. But then again, maybe it's just my dislike of insta love talking. I'm not sure how this whole 'choosing a mate' thing will play out. Seems a little unfair that everyone gets to have as many mates as they please, while the Alpha Queen has to choose one. My bet is on the approach from the "My pack" series by Lane Whitt, where the main heroine just said 'fuck you and all of your rules' and stayed with all of her mates. So, all in all, I enjoyed the story and will definitely be waiting for the next one.
Not all that bad if you don't mind a Mary sue character with seven "perfect" male leads. Its a nice idea but without a chance to real know each companion it makes for a dry reading experience with little romance and zero chance for the reader to connect with the story other then clips of a sudden "understanding" between characters that are automatically in perfect sync and don't mind the idea of sharing. I want to leave this review in hopes the author will take a moment to head my advice, its hard to take eight characters and establish a connection with one book and even harder for the reader to understand. Take the time to give one on one situations with every character that goes deeper than just goofing around or being instantly connected, its important in any story to add trials between each character and how they work through it, or are trying to make it work. Realism is important even in fiction. All in all a fun read, and lots of room to grow as a story and an author.
I always enjoy a shifter book and even more so when it’s a RH. Even a slow burn like this one.
Dani is a badass. She is a super werewolf of Royal lineage and she needs to complete a set of trials to claim her throne. Oh FYI any potential mates have to compete in the trials as well so she can find a compatible mate to rule by her side as King and Queen.
With all stories there needs to be a complex back story and intriguing plot twists and this one doesn’t disappoint. And that ending was just cruel!
The characters are fantastic especially Luke our villain he couldn’t be more despicable if we tried.
It's kinda funny, that after having read so many slow paced RH lately that I happen upon this book aka one that's too fast paced.
Very info dumpy. Very fast burn (her kissing Jason was the randomest thing ever oh my god, out of nowhere), Tons of grammar errors+ the author shows a little TOO much favoritism towards Cam--another thing I dislike because it should always be equal among the men (Dani saying that if she would fall in love with any of them it would be cam was a giant red flag for me, never, not even in a hypothetical situation should the MC pick one over the others)
But having said all that, I did manage to somehow have a fun time with this.
I'm sure book 2 will zap all of the joy I feel right now out of me but for now I feel happy with this series.
Not happy enough for a 4 or 5 star but hey at least it isn't lower.
