Accidental Hookups #1

Accidentally Hitched

Rate this book
“I can’t be a divorcée! Not unless I have stretch marks, wine-tinged bitterness, and a big fat alimony settlement!”

I’ve always had a thing for the boy next door Nash.

All six-foot-four of him. With his dreamy blue eyes and dark hair.

And by dreamy, I mean I dreamt of him. A lot.

Of the dirty things he would whisper in my ear.

Of his hands roaming my body, making me feel sexy and beautiful.

But dreaming was all I had.

Until one small town party and my crazy aunt turned my life upside down.

Now I’m his accidental wife.

I should still keep my distance, I’ve had enough of people with questionable motives.

Except, I want everything that comes with being Nash’s wife.

Especially him.

I’ve always had a thing for curvy Viviana.

She was feisty, she was sassy. She had a body I wanted to feel against mine.

I need to taste her skin, to hear her moan my name.

But she was also totally off limits.

As a single dad I can’t afford to risk my daughter’s heart on another woman.

Especially since she was our neighbor.

And my friend.

But one night changed everything.

Vivi and I are now accidentally married.

And I’m desperately trying to figure out how to make this accident... permanent.

Trying to use up my Kindle Unlimited membership while I have it and came across this one, which is in the Top 10 on the bestsellers list. Sadly, this book is just bleh.

You have to suspend some serious reality for this book. Vivi lives in Louisiana, and her Aunt, Aunt Mae, accidentally marries Vivi, and her neighbor, single dad Nash. They get married in some weird voodoo ceremony. This made no sense at all. And they were just like, oh ok, some kooky lady married us, so it’s legit.

Nash has this adorable little daughter named Norah. To be honest, Norah is the only reason I finished this book. She was so cute and sweet.

Vivi was a little odd. She moved back to Louisiana from Chicago after some incident with her former business partners (this was not very clear, as to why this happened). She now is a romance writer, and a very successful one at that. Nash does custom woodworking. This was kind of a cool topic. But….

Around 60% in, Vivi turned into a different person. She was cold and untrusting and it was bizarre. I didn’t really love the end of the story – I didn’t like the way Vivi acted. I would say that both Vivi and Nash acted a little immature, but Vivi took the cake for sure.

Book was ok, not sure I would recommend it.

Super cute! I immediately want to pick up the next one in the box set, even though I have other books I'm supposed to be reading at this time. The only negative is that towards the end everybody was smacking the to MCs over the head with the answers (including to each other) and they remained oblivious to a level that is impressive.

Other than that I loved Vivi and Nash, and Norah was damned hysterical.

2.5 stars...

This book started well and then just completely unravelled. Vivi was a strong character in the beginning - sassy, independent, and I loved her interactions with Norah. Nash started great too - sexy, quiet, hardworking single dad doing his best for his daughter. Their initial interactions were fun and full of banter, which left me hoping for good things.

Then the second they start kissing the story fell apart. Every interaction devolved into kissing and sex. I’m not sure I’ve read about two characters so wholly consumed with getting it on and overheating with just a look. It was irritating. But more than that, every dinner or non-sexual conversation was skipped over completely. We read that they eat dinner together 3 times a week, but didn’t read about a single actual dinner, so I didn’t understand the jump from physical connection to love. I’m all for some good sex in my books, but this was boring and repetitive.

On top of all this, Vivi became a different person in the second half of the book which I hated, and their big issue could genuinely have been dealt with in one 5 minute conversation about feelings - this was two supposed straight-shooters who were anything but when it came to feelings.

Ended with her thanking him for waiting for her - which, if you’ve read this, doesn’t make any fucking sense.

This just feels really weird.

I didn't really get the accidentally bit. It was a little strange and I just couldn't follow it.

I also found the female MC very odd & the kid was just not working for me. Written far far too old for a 10 year old.

KU win? Started this with very low expectations and although the formatting and sentence structuring is often hella confusing, it was pretty fucking funny. A little ridiculous, but I think that only added to the obvious unbelievability and made it funnier.

You have to really suspend your beliefs for this ‘accidental marriage’ as the premise for it is stupid and illegal, but whatever. It’s romance. Give me the mushy, cute, happy shit. Which this book did deliver.

I wish this was a DNF because then maybe I could have lived in my own imagination of what could've happened.

The good: Norah and Aunt Mae. The body positivity. ...the first 30-40% of the book....

I'm struggling, let's get to why I'm really here.

The Bad: the plot, the writing, editing, character development and conflict.

The editing: no, just no. There was a whole chapter repeated in my kindle edition. A whole chapter! I flipped back and forth through the pages just to make sure. Continuity was forgotten as clothes apparently reappear at a moments notice. Words misused, typos...etc.

**SPOILERS**

All the other stuff: Now let's suspend reality for a moment and believe this marriage business is real. I'm a team player I can play along. Why are these grown, business owning, child making, ADULTS acting like children? And why is a child acting like an adult?

Norah the "child" is perfectly secure in the relationships she has with all the adults in her life. With the history of her absent mother it's understandable how this could be a difficulty. But no, instead she takes these adults at their word and accepts what they offer her, no question. I love this kid.

The adults, honestly, need counseling or something. First off. Who do you know in the next town that you're sooo worried about them hearing about your divorce? You're both anti social with a small group of friends. And the heroine works online for a living! Yet she's NEVER heard of contacting a lawyer on that new fangled internet the kids are gossipin about? And who ever heard about going to jail for an annulment. Whose gonna contest you sleeping together fool? Who? I suspended disbelief but all the stupid reasons they came up with to not be married. I could not.

Let's say they were gun shy because of past relationships and events. Alright. They had a tentative relationship when they started sleeping together. Marriage may be a big step neither of you are ready to take. So why could no one, none of these so called adults say. "Hey marriage isn't where I thought we would be in the here and now. But I like you (obviously enough to bring you around my kid and sleep with you). What can we do about this situation and continue our relationship?"

Nope instead we get the "big misunderstanding", which admittedly is a plot point I don't usually hate. But this time I did. Because Vivi decided that she loved him after a couple weeks and that his inability to love her was the ultimate betrayal. Like chick really. Who are you? How about you accept the man likes and cares for you and allow him to grow into his own feelings. He doesn't have to love you just because you love him. What?! Where the heck is understanding and communication. And she treats this poor guy like crap without ever explaining anything to him. He's just left dealing with everything on his own and people telling him he should grovel. For what! This too stupid to be real, over inflated egotistical princess?! Thank you next. I would have divorced her ungrateful behind. I see why her friends did what they did. Maybe she deserved it.

Nash was too good for her. But he was still immature too. He didn't owe her anything and he bought into that nonsense. I wanted him to call her on it. Tell her she needed to face their relationship like an adult or get that farce of a marriage dissolved now. Because there's no point starting anything when you can't trust someone enough to TALK! Or even ask hey what do you mean by that? Rather than assume! As far as I'm concerned his inability to properly research what an annulment entails and how to proceed, leaves me wondering at his mental capacity. FYI, fraud and lack of consent are valid reasons for an annulment. And I would say that bogus "ritual" was more than enough fraud and your lack of knowledge and lack of signatures on the marriage cert is plenty of lack of consent. Just because you had sex doesn't mean getting an annulment will land you in jail. Unbelievable. And don't tell me it was religious because there was a lack of morals on both sides of that bed.

Alas I had high hopes, but they were dashed. It feels like this story was borrowed from another much better written one, I read some time ago. If I find it I will update with the title and author. But trust me, you can find better out there.

Good beach read

2.5 stars. This is one of those books that remind you of the old romance novels but with today's heat! Good characters and secondary ones, loved little Norah! Interesting plot and execution. Not a lot of drama just miscommunication between our H/h which I found annoying.
Hea, no ow/om, heat, no cliffhanger, no real drama and epilogue.

Ok, so aside from the voodoo-ish portions of the story, it was entertaining. There were plenty of times I felt like I had read this book before but I still appreciate Sullivan’s take on the story. The characters are funny and sexy! I was drawn to Vivi’s feisty-ness. The book felt a bit long in parts but made up for it in others.
I received this book for a voluntary, completely honest and non incentivized review.

Viviana has been living in Chicago for nearly 10 years. But after her best friends swindled her company out from under her, she has decided it is time to come home to Belle Musique, a town on the outskirts of New Orleans, where she grew up.

Nash Boudreaux is her new next door neighbour and the father of 8 year old Norah. The way ’Vivi’ first comes across Nash is by walking Norah home, after Norah has come investigating and then stayed for a while. It is the first of many visits, with Norah becoming a regular at Vivi’s house.

Nash is a bit suspicious of Viviana and her friendship with his daughter to start with, as he can’t understand why Viviana is ok to spend all day with Norah. He struggles with trying to work out what she wants from him. He doesn’t really know her, as although they first knew each other back in high school, but they weren’t close friends.

Viviana started writing erotic novels while going through the court case against her friends, following the takeover of her business. In her own words, “I wrote three novels that became kind of a big deal. But a year after the third one was published, book four still sat on my laptop with a scant fifty pages to it. I was blocked. And exhausted mentally. So, I’d decided to pack up my lifestyle in Chicago and bring myself and my brown bunny, Lollipop, back home to Belle Musique to get my mojo back.”

So, Viviana is spending a lot of time at home. And that in turn is giving her plenty of time to hang around with Norah, and plenty of opportunities to bump into Nash next door.

Nash also works from home, creating custom wooden furniture. I enjoyed this part of his story, as while I was reading the intricate descriptions of his designs, I found myself attempting to picture the pieces that he was creating.

I also found I really liked Nash’s relationship with his daughter. It was well handled & I liked that side of him. I was sometimes annoyed by the way he handled the relationship with Viviana though. He was at times seemingly totally clueless. And then at other times I felt like I needed a bit more description to understand him and that he wasn’t clueless as much as we just weren’t being told what he was thinking.

Another important character in the story is Viviana’s Aunty Mae. She is the twin sister of Viviana’s mum and she had stepped in to help raise Viviana when her mum “couldn’t be bothered with parenthood”.

Mae runs a shop, Voodoo Does It Right. She is a very colourful character. I found myself being able to picture her and her pushy (in a nice way) methods very clearly in my imagination.

Aunty Mae sucks both Nash and Viviana into ‘volunteering’ to be part of her Prosperity Ritual, as part of the town’s solstice celebration ceremony. This of course means Viviana and Nash spend extra time together rehearsing, and it brings them closer together.

This is a fun book. Decidedly quirky, even a little bit odd-ball at times, but all in a good way.

And Viviana is an amusing character. Definitely a strong woman. And she has a potty mouth. It’s not at all done in an offensive way though; rather that she is a modern young woman, who simply doesn’t have much of a filter. Some of the things that she comes out with made me laugh out loud, in a startled sort of way.

But there are a few of points about the book that kind of had me scratching my head a bit. One was how Viviana had won her court battle against her friends and had been awarded $20 million as a result. (Never fear, I’m not giving the story away by sharing this – the writer tells the reader this on p2.) But then she goes on to not really take any notice of the fact that she’s now incredibly wealthy, for the rest of the story. She doesn’t scrimp anywhere, but she just kind of ignores it.

And the whole point of the book is that they’re ‘accidentally hitched’, but in the overall scheme of things, this point gets a surprisingly small amount of attention. I did find that a bit odd. It’s not detrimental to the story, but rather it seemed to me that it was only the focus of their story for a moment, as their story in general took over as being more important.

I enjoyed Nash and Viviana’s story and their colourful cast of supporting characters. I’m definitely curious to learn more, so I’ll be back to read more in the ‘Accidental Marriage’ series (available here from Amazon, in a box set). Vivian Stark returns home to Belle Musique, Louisiana after livings in Chicago for several years. While clean up a spot to grow her vegetables garden, she is visited by a her young neighbor, Norah, a chatty, 8 years old. When it was time for Norah to go, Vivian walked the her young neighbor home and was surprised to see who her father was, a high school crush, Nash Bourdreaux. Nash is a single father to Norah, since his wife Nanette, walked out on them when Norah was one month old and ever since Nash has been raising Norah on his own. Surprise to see Vivian and remembering her from high school and brings back memories of their graduation party and how he rejected her and how beautiful she is now. The Solstice Celebration is about to take place and Aunt Mae, a priestess, can see the attraction between Nash and Vivian, asked them to participate in the ritual, where they would kiss in front of the town and tourists, but what Aunt Mae didn't know, it was also was a wedding ceremony, and both Nash and Vivian surprise to know they are husband and wife. Knowing they have become good friends, but both are in love, both are afraid to tell each other and both think that being married will ruin their friendship by being husband and wife.
Once again I am read a great boo . I have read several of Piper Sullivan's books and enjoyed everyone of them. This is a great summer read.

Great first half, infuriating second half. Spoilers.

The first half is great because these two people are becoming great friends and having fun. She gets along great with his daughter. I was really invested in their story. Unfortunately, after she admits to herself that she has feelings for him it really falls apart. He realizes how he feels too, but because he's a guy in a romance novel he can't admit it. I've read that scenario dozens of times and I understand that a little bit of denial is needed to create angst for the two lovers to overcome. The problem is that it is drug out over half the book. Time after time the perfect moment comes for him to just tell her how he feels but he refuses. Even when he realizes that she just has the wrong idea, nothing. Even when he, her, and his kid are all miserable from being apart, nope. Even when she's is severely saving his kid and he thinks he could have lost her, still won't tell her. Finally he comes up with a romantic gesture but by that point I just didn't care because it was just way past time and I honestly didn't want him to get her because he's a coward and didn't deserve her. The author really overplayed her hand with drawing out them telling each other how they felt. Still giving it 3 stars because the first half was truly entertaining.

Excellent but simple
Excellent romance, pleasant to read even if the scenario is simple, except for the fact that the heroes find themselves married without knowing it, without being drunk, and that they discover it only a few days later. The whole story is based on these two characters who do not know if they have to go beyond friendship or restrict themselves to it.
The dialogues and the characters are excellent.
Viviana is an author of erotic romances, but she's blocked. She returns to her hometown in Louisiana after a few years in Chicago. Nash, her neighbor, has known her since childhood, but 10 years ago he kindly refused to hang out with her. Nowadays, following a voodoo misunderstanding, they find themselves married and do not know what to do despite their attraction.
The other characters are excellent : Viviana's aunt, a manipulative voodoo priestess and a matchmaker in her spare time, as well as Nash's daughter, who has no filter when she speaks, Maddie, Zeke.

A wonderful well written amazing romance. The storyline was intriguing, steamy, and entertaining with strong relatable characters and chemistry. Vivi having lost her faith in people and chicago lifestyle moves back home and buys a house in Belle Musique, Louisiana in hopes to cure her writers block. When a little girl Norah comes visiting from next door non stop chatting. When Vivi walks her home she is surprised to find her father is her high school crush who rejected her the night of graduation party 10 years ago. Enjoyable watching them fumble thru Norah not being able to stay away and crazy aunt Mae accidentally marrying them when she talked them into participating in annual event for the town and tourists. The journey of denying their explosive chemistry and both being in denial of being in love and committing to the accidental marriage was a definite page turner, having me hooked from page one.

A very good love story that will keep you intrigued throughout. When two people have a little bit of history but one may want to forget, can you? When Vivi moves back home after experiencing some bad things in Chicago she doesn't realize who she moves next door to. Nash who has lived in town his whole life has an 8 year adorable daughter Norah. When Norah introduces herself to Vivi she has no idea who her dad is until she walks her home that day. Flashbacks of the crush she once had on Nash come flying back before she left a decade ago. When one thing leads to another can they keep their relationship as just "friends"? There is so much going on that I would give the story away if I went on and I don't like to give spoilers. I can tell you that the story is well written, the characters are very likable and if you look past the few grammar errors as I do you have a beautiful book to read. Enjoy...

Unique Storyline!

This was quite a unique storyline with the most lovable characters Vivi, a romance writer, and Nash, her next door neighbor and her school crush. She’s moved back home after living in Chicago and being taken taken by her former friends who cheated her out of a business deal. She gets her revenge and a large settlement and decides to head back to the small town where she grew up where her Aunt Mae lives. The secondary characters like her aunt and Nash’s young daughter, Norah only make this story more unique and fun. Nash and Vivi become fast friends and when the give into temptation and sleep together, the fun begins. I’d love to score this book higher than a five, that is how much I enjoyed how Vivi and Nash fight to keep things under control but find they both want more but are too afraid to give in and let down their guard and give in to love.

Everyone needs a kookie Aunt Mae in their lives
I adored this book. The characters just jumped off the page and into my heart, especially Norah and Aunt Mae - that woman made me wish she was my aunt. I also loved the way that the whole town were in cahoots with Mae!
I could recognise some of my author friends in Vivi and her book writing! And I'm sure that Nash will star in many fantasy banks - he's handsome, kind, successful and a wonderful single dad? This guy has everything, except a cape! Oh and he's also missing his intelligence sometimes as he keeps mess up but I forgive him!
A great fun romance that had me genuingly laughing aloud and also aching to hold little Norah as she is so cute!

beautifully written
Viviana "Vivi" returns to her home town after living in Chicago for several years. She buys a home and meets the neighbor girl Norah, who is adorable. When she walks Norah home it was to discover that cuteness runs in the family as her father is Nash, the boy she crushed on and was rejected by in high school. Friendship leads to more and in a ceremony performed for the town and tourists on solstice to help her Aunt Mae these two are accidentally married. And that's just the beginning! So beautifully written and the characters are electric. I'd like to read more about Zeke and Maddie.

This is a wonderful well-written friends to lovers story, Vivi is a strong independent woman who returns home after having a dreadful time with ex friends. Now her new neighbor is a sexy single dad to a sweet little girl and he's also her high school crush that she fled town from.

They slowly regain their friendship and soon their hormones take over. But having been hurt before by close friends Vivi is caustic. Now they are accidentally hitched due to meddling Aunt Mae, and they have to see how and what they are going to do about this new situation.

I loved this story, it's a heartwarming love story. The characters are amazingly charismatic and likable. Even loved the secondary characters.

A Second Chance Romance

Vivi and Nash have known each other since they were kids. She had a huge crush on him that she acted on senior year, but which he politely declined. She left early for college after that and hasn’t been home much since. Ten years later, Vivi is back and living next door to Nash and his seven year old daughter, Nora. Her crush is now a definite attraction and he now seems to appreciate the woman she’s become. But Vivi has suffered betrayal and doesn’t easily trust, so getting close to her is going to take a bit of work. An intelligent, witty romance novelist, a hunky artistic single dad, a precocious and energetic little girl, and an eccentric but lovable aunt make quite a cast of characters. Most enjoyable.

Accidentally Hitched

Vivi has come back home after 10 years of living in Chicago. She’s in need of a fresh start after battling with her ex friends over legal troubles with a business they once owned. Nash knee Vivi back when they were in school but he hasn’t seen her since she left Louisiana. Now she’s his new neighbor and she’s jeopardizing his happy single dad status with each new encounter. His daughter is already in love with her and he’s just too slow on the uptake to realize that he is too. Throw in a meddling aunt who “accidentally” marries them and 2 lawyers that disappear just when they are needed to put through a divorce. Now I’m waiting to see what happens with Zeke & Maddie

Oh My Goodness this was a fun read. I really enjoyed it the moment I started it.

Aunt Mae is a sneaking person and I loved but thought it was freaky at how she showed up when you needed her and how when she knew you needed something.

Norah is the most adorable little girl, she is the type of young girl I would have loved to hang around with.

Vivi abs Nash didn’t start out so well back in the day, but now that time has passed and they both have grown up, the chemistry is off the chart between these two and I loved how they really were not bashful around each other.

Things always tend to happen around them that makes them do things they thought would never happen like fall for each other.

This was such a fun and exciting read.

This is an amusing, sweet and entertaining story. Nash is an engaging, likable and caring man. Vivi is determined, independent and kind woman. She had a crush on him in high school, but he wasn't interested, now, 10 years later they end up neighbors who are wildly attracted to each other. The problem is that Vivi is not interested in any kind of relationship, not even friends, except with Nash's daughter. When her aunt performs an abundance ritual on them, it turns out to be a wedding ceremony. They give in to the attraction between them, which complicates the matter and they have to decide how to proceed with their marriage. It's a very entertaining story with interesting characters.

Okay but need a new editor

The story held a lot of promise and I really enjoyed it in the beginning. Unfortunately, as the story continued to develop between Nash and Vivi, things started getting choppy. There were several areas of incomplete thought where the premise was there and then removed during editing. This left me, the reader, feeling confused and having to reread parts. There were multiple misspelled words but mostly at the end of the story. I did enjoy the climax of the story and the twists at the end. Just don’t like a story when I have to reread portions multiple times to figure out the meaning due to edit issues.

I really loved this story the book was well written and the characters were fantastic. Vivianna and nash were at school together but after nash rejected her she left and until now had never returned home. vivi was hurt and just wanted to write a new book she had returned home after leaving chicago and the people she called friends. Nash is a single dad with a small daughter who becomes friends with Vivi. the story is full of promise, emotions and love with some hot passion. Great read

I loved the characters. Vivi was a quirky and brilliant romance novelist. Nash was a great single dad who created masterpieces in his wood working shop. A high school crush turned into a full blown romance with a little help from Norah, Nash's 5 year old daughter; Mae, Vivi's eccentric Aunt and mother figure; Zeke, Nash's best friend; Maddie, Vivi's best friend; and a whole town that believed they should be together. After an accidental marriage at tje Solstoce ceremony made their marraige real. Will Nash allow Vivi into his heart or will he allow his past to dictate his future?

Nash and Vivianna went to high school together. On the night of their graduation she made a move on Nash that was a disaster. She picked up and moved away at the beginning of summer and stayed away. After college associates that she went into business with sold the company out from under her, she packed up and moved back home. When she met a precocious little girl, she never expected for her to belong to none other than Nash. Now she lives right next door to the mistake she made when she graduated high school. Will their be a repeat or is the second time around is a charm for her?

One of the best...

I have read several books by Ms. Sullivan and I believe this may be one of her best yet. All of the characters were wonderful and easy to relate to. Aunt Mae was over-the-top. She reminded me of several of my own aunts...if you mixed them all together! Then there was Norah...just perfect. Let's not forget Nash and Vivi(no, I did not like her simply because her name and mine are almost the same!). These two were perfect for each other even if they were the only two who didn't know it.
