For anyone who loves cats, dogs (or both!), James Patterson's most pawsome story ever is set in a society defined by the oldest rivalry in the world: katts versus doggs!
Oscar is a happy dogg---a rambunctious kid who loves being a Dogg Scout. Thanks to his family, he knows that snobby katts are good for nothing but chasing up trees.
Molly is a clever katt who just knows she's destined for fame and fortune as an actress. She comes from a family of well-bred katts who despise drooly, disgusting doggs!
For their whole lives, Oscar and Molly have been told that katts and dogs hate each other. One day, they each get hopelessly lost in the woods, but those lifelong prejudices flare up when they cross paths. Slowly, they realize that the only way to survive and find their way home is to...work together?!

To hiss or to purr? To growl or to wag your tail happily?
For their whole lives, Oscar and Molly have known that katts (cats) and doggs (dogs) despise each other. When their familys' both decide to go camping, the fur begins to fly. But when Oscar and Molly get lost in the woods, the kids find that the lifelong prejudices they've held might be wrong. As they try to escape the woods, things go from bad to worse. Slowly they realize that the only way home is to work together. Can they learn to trust each other, or will they be lost forever?
A tale that proves the animal kingdom's oldest rivalry doesn't need to be. What would happen if your sworn enemy could be your friend?
Trigger warning for lost children and fighting.
Talented and dignified, Molly came from a family of well-bred Katts. This classy cat gracefully used her passion for acting to help Oscar and herself survive their perilous journey. Soft but a bit uppity, Molly gradually became more open-minded as she got to know Oscar. Her wise mind and tender heart shone brightly as the novel picked up speed.
Hyper and easily distracted, Oscar was full of life. Though this energetic soul often found himself in self-inflicted danger, his quick wits always came to the rescue. Happy-go-lucky, being inside Oscar's head felt like a warm sunny day.
Sometimes the worst of times spawn the most beautiful of friendships. Oscar and Molly were sure they knew everything there was to know about each other. It was interesting to watch them start to question the deep-seated convictions they held. My heart melted as their bond became about so much more than survival.
Get ready for an adventure! Obstacle after obstacle kept Oscar and Molly on their paws as they set aside their differences. Hilariously charming, Katt vs Dogg was about so much more than cats and dogs. Simple, witty prose told a tale full of themes that go beyond the lives of our most common fuzzy friends. In a world both like and unlike our own, James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein cleverly explored topics like prejudice, trust, and friendship in a way that warms the heart. Impressively, they suddenly dropped lesser-known facts about dogs and cats along the way. Interspersed every few pages, Anuki Lpez's adorable drawings made this book come off the page. A bit over exaggerated yet nonetheless engaging, Oscar and Molly's shared story painted a portrait showcasing how working together makes the world go round.
Gather your fur babies to read Katt vs. Dogg. It's pawsome!
The Dogg and Katt families go camping in an amazing park along with other "mystical creatures". They get there in their amazingly adapted SUV and pick up trucks. The battle between Katts and doggs has been dragging down the animal world for long enough. Remanence of the Hatfields and McCoys, clearly the Dogg and Katt families have carried their feud too far and everyone is exhausted from it. I did notice that the groups were segregated and did little until the thing that happened, happened. There were also some stereotypical Dogg comments.. (I am after all a Katt person and on their side, stupid Dogg, oops!).
Part fantasy, part comedy, and silliness, but such fun! The book was a delight. I recommend it to one and all.. in fact, it would make a great travel book for the whole family! It shows that when times get tough, you have to team up to succeed and that there will always be people (depending on what the actually are) who will not want you to change.
Both cat and dog lovers will enjoy this whimsical tale of rivalry. But as we learn or already know-they can be the best of buddies too.A friend or supporter can be found in the most unlikely place or at the weirdest time.
Awesome! I think it's great how they become friends at the end. The only thing I disliked was, that Molly claimed the kiss was fake. I think they're cute together! Lol, I'm probably the only one XD! A dog and cat in love! But that's just me. I think it was great!

Katt vs Dogg is a wonderful entertaining story. There is a great amount of information concerning the behavior of cats and dogs presented in a humorous way. I never knew the reason why a cat can get stuck in a tree, they can not climb down because of their claws. The story is basically about Oscar, dogg, and Molly, katt, sworn enemies, adventures after getting lost in the wilderness. It has several moral lessons such as exploring the issues of prejudices and trust. "I'm a big fan of animals getting along, helping each other. Becoming something more together than they could apart. They're better together." "We're always stronger when we work together." Which are only some of the great messages. The only part I did not like, it's a pet peeve of mine, the adults are written as idiots. They rather fight among themselves then focus on their kid's gallant actions. The only reason it did not reach 4 stars for me.
Read this as a read-aloud book to my kids for their homeschooling. It was humorous enough to elicit some laughs. Good overall lesson about teamwork and finding commonality with our "enemies." I'd say the intended audience is probably an average 3rd - 4th grader, however there were some bigger vocabulary words throughout.
Oscar and Molly have grown up knowing that doggs and katts are mortal enemies, each side hating the other. It's just what doggs and katts do. Doggs are smelly, drool on everything and all they think about is chasing katts up trees. And katts, well they're stuck up and they have icky hairballs and step on litter. Gross. One thing they both agree on is that while they're vacationing at the Western Frontier Park they will stay in their respective camps.
Oscar is a fun loving, rambunctious dogg, who's stellar at long distance running, but also easily distracted. Molly, on the other hand, thinks of herself as dignified, has plans to be an actress and knows she's destined for great things. Yet when a squirrel and butterfly cross their path, they both can't resist the urge to chase them through the woods, resulting in both of them becoming hopelessly lost. When they happen to stumble into each other, their natural instincts take over but eventually realize that working together is the only chance they have to get back to their families.
Each chapter is broken down into three to four pages with illustrations every couple of pages. I so wanted to love this book, I thought it would be funny, seemed to have an interesting premise, and maybe there'd be a little conflict. It has a great setup cause most dog's and cat's really don't get along and I was curious how they would fend when they got lost and had to rely on each other. It just wasn't as light and funny as I was expecting. I think it's partially because one of the important concepts of Katt vs. Dogg is that each side hates the other, which is fine given the animal's nature but there seemed to be an exorbitant amount of insults to push this thought forward. The cats and dogs referred to each other as dumb, stupid, and ignorant. Sure there are a few funny insults thrown in but it seemed like a large portion of the beginning of the book was setting up how much their families historically hated each other. I don't know maybe it's just me and children will gloss over the insults and see two arch enemies becoming friends. And they really do become friends in the end, but it kinda zapped some of my enjoyment.
The overall messaging of Molly and Oscar being stronger when they work together is rather nice and there are some interesting statistics about dogs and cats, like cats having more than twenty muscles to control their ears and that the average dog can run twenty miles per hour which I really enjoyed. In the end, they do determine they have more in common than they initially thought and there is an overall happy ending. There's also an interesting mix of characters with hybrids including a wolfbear, lionodiles and a kindly doggkatt who offers them help and advice. Plus, being lost in the wilderness, they have lots of obstacles to overcome, including a hungry mountain lion and a huge river they need to cross. So yeah, some adventuring, danger and creative mechanisms of getting them back to base camp. Given cat and dogs are so popular as pets, I can certainly see the kid appeal. *I received an ARC from the publisher via a Goodreads giveaway.*
James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein did not disappoint. When these 2 authors team up, great and wild things happen in their stories. This is another great adventure with Dogg and Katt.
This book is all kinds of entertainment, yet it packs an important message for kids as well as adults. Molly, a Katt, and Oscar, a Dogg, are both lost in the wilderness. They stumble across each other and join forces to save themselves, even though they were brought up to be sworn enemies. The authors do a good job of illustrating ways to overcome prejudices and unfounded preconceived ideas. Molly and Oscar soon realize that not everything they were told about the other species is true, and in fact, wonder of wonders, they might actually become friends! The print version is undoubtedly rich with illustrations, but I was enchanted with the audio version, superbly performed by Marc Thompson. His marvelous interpretations and many delightful voices add much to the tale.q
What a great story for kids, and if read with parents it has an opportunity to teach children that what we assume to be correct about someone/or some race is not correct.
In doggs vs katt Oscar (dogg) and his family are going on vacation. Molly (katt) and her family are going on vacation. When they arrive at the campground they are sent to their specific areas, kattville and dogworld. Somehow both Molly and Oscar get lost and find each other. Will they overcome the hatred they have been taught, and learn to work together to survive?
Even without the bigger learning lesson, it’s still a good book, with the bigger learning lesson it’s a great book!
I read this book to my seven year old, and we really enjoyed it. The story moved really quickly, and there was a lot great action at an age-appropriate level. We really enjoyed Patterson's characters. They were realistic, the banter was witty, and the scenes were a lot of fun. The book went by quickly, and I look forward to reading more by him.
this story is about a family of cats and dogs and has a lot of arguing it is over stupid stuff. you can see how they come together, in the end, it's almost like the beginning never happened. never judge this book by its cover it looks childish but it is no it is actually one of the greatest books I have ever read. I recommend this book if you love dogs or cats.
Read for elementary school library/students. This is the first books I read by James Patterson. My students love him and his humor but I never had a chance to read his stories until now. Absolutely fantastic sense of humor that appeals to kids.
It was super cute! I enjoyed the illustrations and the difference between the wilds and the cities. I did not like how stereotypical the animal were. I felt, like I do with the other James Patterson books I’ve read, that it wasn’t really a “nutritional” book.
Read this with my 9 year old Granddaughter. She enjoyed it so much that we started the next book right away, Katt loves Dogg. We're hoping there will be more written in this series. We love that she can say she read her 1st book by James Patterson!!
This book is kid approved by both my 7 and 9 year old! We read it aloud together and all laughed together. This story offers a combination of humor, adventure, and lessons on prejudice and making assumptions about those from different groups than ourselves. Great message and tons of fun!
