I don't really know why I liked this book as much as I did.
Honestly, there's not much to it. It isn't special.
If it were a car it would be a Toyota Camry.

But for some reason it's a Toyota Camry I enjoyed.

I liked the idea of this story, and the writing was good, but for me it very much felt like a YA book despite the majority of characters being adults. I probably won't read any further.

I’ve been fortunate enough lately to stumble upon unfamiliar authors and series that have really been a joy to read. “Misfit Pack” is one such read.

It’s been six years since the death of Amber’s twin brother and the night her mother kicked her out of their house in Texas. Although she still carries a truck load of guilt, Amber moves to Portland and got a job as a nurse. This night she was going to hear a free concert of The Troll Bangs, her brother Dylan’s favorite. However, before she could even get to the concert she hears the growl of a werewolf and she inserts herself between the wolf and a pink haired girl. They are both bitten but the wolf strikes again and bite a teenage boy. That night the world changes for all three of them because it is the full moon and they would shift for the first time.

The strangest thing happens. Turned wolves normally cannot become Alpha but Amber manages to do so and now she has a pack consisting of a 17 year old boy, Tommy and the pink haired girl, Genevieve. As they attempt to maneuver in this new world. They come face to face with Donovan, an Alpha that attempts to recruit them into his pack. That’s not going to happen and Amber decides that she will undergo the trial of the Alpha in order to keep her autonomy.

As the new pack gets to know one another they meet a witch who stands up for a sprite after its wings are ripped off. Despite the cruelty of her upbringing Ceri has one of the kindest hearts around. She also becomes a member of the pack. Yet, Donovan is not about to let this stand as is. He creates havoc in each of their lives and goes so far as to attack them at every turn. Why is he so intent upon getting Amber in his pack? What is he up to?

Well, in order to find out the answers to these questions and more you will just have to read this book. This is a fast pace read and the author doesn’t provide a lot of depth but there is plenty of action, twists and turns and heart breaking moments. If you decide to read this book I recommend that you buy the 3 book set instead of the books separately. It is more cost effective.

My Thoughts:
I am so glad I stumbled into this book/author because this is starting to read like a wonderful series indeed! This is also my first Amanda Dolan listen and I like the way she reads. Her voice is not aggravating to the ears. And she does not have a singsong to the way she reads that a few narrators seems to have, which is a huge plus to me!! And of course, I dived into the next book right after finishing this one so the cliffhanger ending did not feel so aggravating to me. Amber, our alpha heroine, sometimes feels stupid to me but she hasn't acted all out " too stupid to live " ( tstl ) yet so I am keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't in subsequent books! And I love the world building!! It's not that original, but it is beautiful!!

Empirical Evaluation:
Story telling quality = 4.5
Character development = 4.5
Story itself = 4
Writing Style = 4.5
Ending = 3.5
World building = 5
Cover art = 4.5
Pace = 4
Plot = 4
Narration = 5

Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Intrigued

I’ve been desperately searching for another series to check out that lived up to the standards of my two favorite series from last year (Kate Daniels & Bewitched and Bewildered).

This book is definitely intriguing and I’m excited to keep reading the series and see what comes of it.

I love stories about under dogs or an up and comer. People rising above life’s challenges and beating the odds.

There was the perfect amount of mystery and unanswered questions left at the end, from those few things vaguely hinted at having importance.

I’m already falling in love with the characters and their stories. I think there’s still so much to learn about them, and I can’t wait to delve deeper.

Definitely a must read 🤪

A page turner of an Urban Fantasy

I devoured this book in one go and now it’s the middle of the night and I’m yawning as I write my review. However, I really wanted to write one because I enjoyed the book so much!

I really liked the world that the author constructed with witches, elves and werewolves rubbing shoulders in a magical world. I also enjoyed the idea of the Misfit Pack. The story starts with three people being bitten by a werewolf under a full moon and being forced to change against their will. After changing two of the pack turn to the third, Amber and maker her their Alpha, something that is not supposed to happen with a newly bitten wolf.

Almost straight away they are approached by the alpha of the pack which their biter belonged to and invited Amber to join his pack, but not Tommy and Genevieve. Amber refuses and in order to avoid being thrown in the bitten werewolf system which ‘holds’ newly bitten wolves for a year, states she will join in with the Alpha Trials to become a full fledged Alpha.

I loved how the individual characters are gradually revealed to the reader as well as the other members of the pack, as they are all strangers to each other. We all find out about each other at the same time. I love how each stage in the plot reveals something about the world as well as the story and there are a few juicy things dangled in the book that are not resolved to make it even easier to 1-click on the next book in the series when it’s released.

I highly recommend this Urban Fantasy book, it’s an entertaining and interesting read. A real page turner.

I really enjoyed this cast of characters, and didn't mind the multiple POVs

D2da6df193e823b3f05b52b869487521

She couldn’t hear what her pack was saying but she could feel their strength. Tommy, the homeless kid with a heart of gold. Genevieve, an intelligent woman that hid her talents because she was afraid to fail. And Ceri, the white witch.

Then we have Amber who is the Alpha (and rock of the whole group) She might not have chosen to be bitten or become the leader of this motley crew, but she is determined to protect those under her care no matter what life throws her way.

I look forward to the next one~!

Another FaceBook Recommendation win. I am not sure if I'm really that easy to figure out or I'm just easy. This book caught my attention from the first page. New to me author, Ms. Foxe entertains and makes me want to learn more about this world she's created. The characters are all troubled ones and I love supporting the underdog. It looks like a pack calling themselves Misfits is definitely going to capture my attention. I can't wait to learn the back story for each of them. I whipped through this book so quick and I immediately went to find the next books in the series. Recommended for paranormal readers who love the underdog.

I "read" this on audible. The storyline kept me interested. Often with audio books I get bored from "just" listening. Between thr storyline and the excellent voice actress, I enjoyed it so much I listened to the next two immediately!

This was fun! It was so cool to read about a werewolf world where people know what werewolves are and yet judge bitten wolves more harshly than born wolves when, often, the bitten wolves had no choice! As for those who did have a choice, why even become a bitten wolf if you already know you'll be low on the totem pole and treated badly by society in general?

I liked reading about the formation of the pack and the trials. I like the hint of romance that may come to be in the next book.

Ah-mazing!!!

Really, really great book! I loved how all the characters were able to find a “family” within each other despite all their individual struggles. I’m really looking forward to seeing where Amber takes her pack and her new found responsibilities with Council. Stephanie Foxe did an amazing job with this book and I can’t wait for the next one in the series!

Too many points of view

Did not finish unfortunately. There were just too many different character changes and I couldn't settle into the story. I'd get comfortable reading as Amber then it would change to a totally new character's POV. It's a shame as the story seemed promising and I wanted to know what happened but it ended up feeling choppy and disruptive.

Wow! I really like Amber she is a strong alpha character. I think she is so wrapped up in herself that she is neglecting the others. The story is intriguing and I couldn't believe how everything came together. Overall I think I am going to keep reading the series.

Misfit Pack

The story on how an alpha becomes an alpha and how packs form a bond was really interesting. I do hope this story will continue and build on the bond.

So, I never stopped to write a review for individual books in this series and just kept binging them...I'm about to read the last one (book 5) and figured I should do that. This series has such a unique concept. Werewolves are so common, but I love Stephanie Foxe's take on them. All of the members of Amber's pack are learning to lean on each other and face their challenges together. I loved reading everyone's POVs, which usually isn't the case with a large cast of characters. I'm on to finishing this series and hopefully writing the rest of the reviews after that.

Why Did I Pick It?

I'm very much a mood reader and I was in the mood for a "fluffy" UF. By that, I mean, a fast read UF that didn't make me think too much. I'll also admit that I'm very much a cover judger and that cover is beautiful! Besides...werewolves!

Finally made it through this novel, even though I wanted to stop at 78% because I could not take it ANYMORE! Nothing infuriates me more than characters who know they don't know everything but don't ask questions. I also hate characters that don't stand up for themselves. I understand the need for character development. Characters need to grow, and they have to start somewhere. There is zero growth in this novel, and it is possible to have a strong female character who doesn't let people walk all over her, but still has room to grow. But that's not this book. The boss, the landlord, the police, the beta - Amber could have stood up for herself using legitimate means, but did not. When someone is doing something illegal to harm you, you tell people in authority. If they do nothing, you take it to the next person. I thought this was supposed to be a book with a strong female lead? Nope. Not here. Enraging and not at all empowering.

There were also so many issues with the writing - inconsistencies in the setting, timeline, and world-building - and SO MANY grammatical and punctuation issues. Nope. I read for enjoyment, but I literally want to throw this book across the room. It had a great premise and a lot of potential, but the execution was poor. The ending - when I finally forced myself to finish the novel - was too neatly wrapped up in a bow, even though it was trying to be a warm and fuzzy ending. Still so many questions left outstanding. I may give book 2 a chance, but it has a huge hill to climb.

Review by 2shay……….

I just sort of stumbled across this book while looking through available titles on Kindle Unlimited. Oh, yeah…I love the wolfies! Actually, I love all sorts of paranormal beings, but wolfies have a special place in my heart. I also love dogs, so maybe that’s why the wolfies appeal so much.

Ms. Foxe has created a world where your next door neighbor might be an elf or possibly a troll, where magic is commonplace and witches practice their craft publicly.

Amber, Genevieve and Tommy didn’t know each other at all when all three were attacked and bitten by a werewolf while on their way to a free concert in a park. During the full moon. Oh, my. They changed immediately and had no idea what to do. They weren’t completely clueless, everyone was aware of werewolves and had some idea what would happen, just not the specifics. Genevieve and Tommy submit to Amber immediately acknowledging her as an alpha, which was a little freaky to them all…a bitten werewolf shouldn’t BE an alpha! Then they adopt a witch, who in turn rescues and adopts a wingless pixie named Woggle. There’s an elf and a demon. I was either laughing or worried! Never bored.

I was delighted with this story! In fact, I’ve already downloaded book two, Misfit Angel, and am looking forward to sinking my teeth…heehee…into that one. It’s free on Kindle Unlimited as well. Pick up a copy now and…

Enjoy!

Wow!

Do you like Patricia Briggs, Kim Harrison, Charlene Harris, Kimbra Swain, Alex Steele, Orlando Sanchez, Shayne Silvers and others in this category? If you do you will love Ms. Foxe!

I just finished the first two books so I’m going to use this review for both of them. I went into this read not expecting anything and I came out of it with every emotion imaginable. AND, I have an extraordinary respect for Ms. Foxe.

She has taken the feeling of any person who has ever been an outsider, misfit or odd one out and rolled it all up into one book. It’s a great paranormal thriller but it’s also a human experience novel. Every type of reason for feeling different from someone else is in here. I relate to every character in some form. Each lead is an outsider for a different reason: trauma, tragedy, rejection, loss, insecurity, family issues and just feeling different. No one person’s idiosyncrasy is considered wrong.

I love watching their growth. I love the fact that these characters are not taken seriously and then they surprise a lot of people. That’s been me my entire life. There is someone here for everyone to love.

The fine line between good and bad is addressed in a fascinating manner. It shows that traditional views of evil might be as wrong as traditional views as misfits. (Or maybe not?)

Do yourself a favor! Read this series!

Good read

It has different look on the werewolf culture. Also the relationship between Amber and her demon is interesting. I am also interested in why or how Far I is included in the pack bonds.

A few worldbuilding issues, but solid writing

I enjoyed the characters and the interplay as they became a pack. My issue is with policing, as in their was almost none. The ‘bad guys’ did things with almost no repercussions and that bothered me. The world was too normal for witches and weres to be so out of control. There were some hints about power structures, but the witch interactions especially left me questioning the stability of the world, which is a flaw in he narrative.

I was, however, able to look past the worldbuilding issue and enjoy the growth and development of the pack. There is a lot of potential in this group.

I will purchase book 2. Best recommendation I can give, it is worthy of my money.

I read back-to-back all three of the books in this series that have been published so far. The series starts weak. It felt like this "origin story" portion of the series was very rushed, with not a lot of effort put into establishing the heroine's character and backstory. Eventually, those are filled in, but the early lack was hard to get over. I'm glad I stuck with the series, though. I was a little put off by the jump in perspective every chapter, but by book two, I was ok with it. This series is free on Kindle Unlimited. If you decide to read it, know that books 2 and 3 are much better than book 1. I really like all the characters by book two, and love them by book three. I'm interested to see if the heroine ends up in a romance with the series bad boy. Seems possible. And the other characters are pairing off, so why not?
