There are a couple of reasons for my disinterest.

1. The information presented is somewhat redundant and reductionist of what goes into education. If you're reading this after having already been a teacher or gone through a modern (say, post-2012) teacher education program, the information is a little eye-roll inducing. The functioning assumption of the authors appears to be that the readers have no background in education/instruction and do not address those concerns.

2. The format and layout of this text would have been better served by an editor going through and demanding clarity and cohesion behind the ideas. I often found grammar mistakes, presentation errors, and generally obfuscated concepts that did not expressly aid in my understanding of the information presented.

3. The price of this text is beyond ludicrous for the material provided for in the reading.

Multiple pages spent explaining how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Also riddled with errors. You would think after so many editions they would have noticed at some point.

I rated it based on the content not if I'd read it again, though because the information is sound, clear, helpful and easily applied- it is definitely a book I will turn to in my Instructional Design career.
Highly recommend for those interested in the field or learning how to create good assignments for the educational field.

This book was the textbook in my introductory instructional design class. I found it fairly easy to read, though somewhat formal and dry at times. I liked the "Expert's Edge" sections where they shared real-life stories of instructional designers. I also liked the oval-shaped model of instructional design at the beginning of each chapter and the overall tone of the book which describes Instructional Systems Design as a flexible model that can be adapted and modified to solve an instructional problem.

"Following a systematic instructional design model increases the likelihood that the designed instruction will be effective and efficient. The model is flexibly modified for each specific situation to improve project efficiency." (pg. 447)

Very loaded book! I appreciated this academic reference book because of its scientific and logical presentation of salient information that instructional designers need. The book also offers good synthesis of concepts and theories that serve as the foundation of the ID field.

What is also interesting in this book is that not only the ID professionals themselves would find this a handy guide. Trainors and teachers who want to impart effective instruction would find great value from this resource.

Useful book on instructional design. The book expresses points in details and giving many real-life experiences. The only thing that I found a bit annoying is that the authors take a long time to make their point (this writing is a bit whimsical sometimes), and for a book of this type of expect it to be less of a narrative and more to the point. Nevertheless, the book is a good reference for ID work.

I will refer back to this textbook for a number of years, I think. It's one of two that I would consider to be indispensable for those on an Instructional Design path. It was an optional text for "Training and Media Management," and I chose to purchase it.
