Bixby is an intriguing protagonist—caught between reality and something darker, stranger, and irresistibly alluring. Her deal with the enigmatic Jordan begins like a nightmare, but quickly morphs into a waking obsession that challenges everything she believes.
The paranormal elements are eerie and surreal, and the story plays well with the blurred lines between dreams and reality. Jordan is both a mystery and a menace, seductive in that classic dark-fantasy way, which keeps the tension high and the stakes personal. The world of the djinn feels fresh, with shadowy rules and temptations that tug at the edges of Bixby's sanity.
Though the pacing occasionally drifts and a few plot elements could be more developed, the atmosphere more than makes up for it—moody, unsettling, and laced with danger.
