Arakita vs Machimiya-who will emerge victorious?! Challenged to an impromptu race where twenty meters decide the difference between winners and losers, Onoda and his hodgepodge "team" struggle to fend off Kureminami's wild beast, Machimiya. The revenge-crazed sprinter is ready to claim victory-until a sudden attack from the sharp-tongued Arakita catches him off guard! Determined to carry Onoda and Manami back to the lead, Hakone's devilish rider won't stop pedaling just yet-not when Fukutomi's orders remain unfulfilled!
I am in awe of how this stupid manga about bicycle racing can get my heart racing and even choke me up. They've been running the same multi-day race for many volumes now, but I quickly get caught up in it, even knowing that it is probably not going to end in this volume. And if you know this series at all, you know it is not a spoiler to say that, indeed, the race does not end in this volume.
But it is getting near the end, and members of the remaining teams begin sacrificing themselves, expending all their energy to pull along their sprinters and aces for the final push. Racers are forced to drop back and retire as they reach their physical limits. There is much heartbreak and at least one big surprise as the casualties mount.
Damn, Arakita was the MVP for this one, probably why he's on the front cover. Background story and putting the pest to rest. The only one that would've questioned Onoda and Manami. Almost at the end and the racers are starting to fall. Hakone down two and then Sohoku the same. Gutted for Kinjou.
