EXCERPT: "I don't feel good," Jason told her.

When she looked at him, she was surprised to see how pale her face had become. He was leaning back against the seat, and his face was pasty white. She took his empty cup and put her full one inside of it before placing it in the bucket. Then she loosened her husband's tie.

He closed his eyes.

Air. They needed air.

She turned to the right and pushed down on the button to lower the window, but nothing happened. When she looked at the driver, she frowned. He had a plastic apparatus over his mouth and nose. "Is that a gas mask?" she asked.

There was no answer.

ABOUT THIS BOOK: Two missing persons. One apparent suicide. Three cases pushing PI Jessie Cole and crime reporter Ben Morrison closer to the edge.

MY THOUGHTS: A quick and easy read, if somewhat superficial; interesting if somewhat unlikely.

A lot of my reservations I cannot elaborate on as they would create spoilers....but there is an example in the excerpt above. Jessie Cole is a PI, her husband has just passed out in the back of a limousine, the windows won't wind down, the driver is wearing 'a plastic apparatus over his face' and she asks...'Is that a gas mask?' Duh! There are a few of these moments throughout the book, quite a few.

But the characters are interesting, to say the least, and they really do carry this book. Jessie has a plethora of interesting cases; perhaps a few less cases and a bit more depth would have served better.

My rating keeps wavering between three and four, so I will settle on 3.5

3.5 stars. This was my least favourite of this series. I just feel that the Ben part of the story is being dragged out too long. Yeah we get it, he has amnesia and may not have been a very nice person before his accident but we don't need to examine this issue from every possible aspect. In fact it might best if left well enough alone lest we find something very disturbing in his past. I guess that's the point of that plot line. Look it was enjoyable and I will certainly read pretty much whatever T.R. Ragan writes but I think we could bring Ben's story to a close and start something new. The other characters are wonderful and I particularly like Zee who continues to delight with her quirkiness.

Private Investigator Jessie Cole is back along with Zee, her schizophrenic assistant and budding PI, her boyfriend, Detective Colin Grayson, and her good friend, Ben Morrison, a crime reporter for the local newspaper.

Zee does well as long as she takes her medications, but the three distinct voices she hears never really go away. She thinks she'd actually be lonely if they did.

Ben was in a car accident 10 years ago. He's lost all memory of any time before that. But he does have visions/hallucinations of extremely violent crimes. Are these just in his imagination ... or are they showing him a glimpse of his life pre-amnesia?

Jessie is having a busy day. A woman wants her to look for her mother who has been gone for 30 years. Her father was accused of killing her although her body was never found. He spent 10 years in prison and has always said he was innocent.

A call from a different state asks for her help in locating a young woman who they can't locate. It seems her grandmother left her a sizeable amount of money.

And then there's the suspected suicide of a man who should be behind bars. There have been several complaints from the families of young girls and no one .. I mean no one .. wants him loose. When he is found hanging, there are plenty of suspects.

A family with secrets, a woman and her husband who are kidnapped, a man who can't stay away from young children .... kept me riveted to the story. The characters are all credible ... and memorable. There are lots of twists and turns to keep the reader entertained.

I really enjoyed seeing more of the personal side of Jessie and Colin, and especially of Ben.

Even though 4th (and maybe final) in this series, it is easily read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting from the very beginning. Excellent series!

Many thanks to the author / Thomas & Mercer Publishing / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Buried Deep I see the 4th book in the PI Jessie Cole series and I certainly hope not the last...but it felt like the end. TR Ragan writes such fantastic, addictive stories with characters that feel like family. I have been a fan of her book since I picked up Abducted, the first book in the Lizzie Gardner series which I devoured and was also sad to see end. Jessie Cole and her niece Olivia, boyfriend Cole, Zee the schizophrenic work college and Ben the newspaper writer have all become dear to me and I love picking up the next instalment. If this is the end then I am looking forward to what comes next.

As this is book 4 in this series I highly recommend that you start from beginning of the series. So much happens to all the characters in each book and you really need to know all of this going into Buried Deep. They are all available on kindle unlimited so you really have no excuse not to read them all!

Again we go on a roller coaster ride in this book with 3 cases all happening at the same time. Jessie has been asked to assist in locating Lacey Geiger who disappeared many years ago and is thought to be living under a new name in Sacramento. Zee is working on her first case trying to find Arlene, Penny's daughter who until recently was beloved to have been murdered by her husband. And then there is Ben who is still trying to piece his past together. He is working on follow up stories to cases from his past and memories start to flash back. When suspected paedophile Roger Willis is released on bail and later found dead, Ben is one of the top suspects.

There is. It a chance to relax when reading this book, you will want to know what is happening next in all these storylines. As always I powered through this book and read it in 2 sittings. I love this series and any fans of detective novels will do too.

Thanks to Thomas and Mercer and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

Buried Deep was a thrilling read with several engaging storylines and some great development for the characters.

For PI Jessie Cole, having more work than she knows what to do with is never a bad thing. When approached by a young woman looking for her mother who disappeared thirty years ago, Jessie agrees to help the woman as she knows what it’s like to always wonder what if. But in the middle of that case, Jessie is offered a job with a nice bonus if she can find a woman who has inherited quite a bit of money. The only problem is, the woman disappeared without a trace over a decade ago. While Jessie is busy tracking down the two missing women, Ben is struggling with bits and pieces of memories of his life prior to the accident that left him with amnesia ten years ago.

Of the three cases in this book I found the story of Lacey Geiger, one of the missing women, to be the most interesting. There are actually chapters in this book that follow Lacey and I was definitely interested to know how she ended up in the situation she did. The ending of Lacey’s storyline was very well done and I liked how Jessie tied into it. As to the other missing woman, Zee is actually the one who actively works that case. I liked how Zee’s approach to her work was different than Jessie’s and getting to see how much Zee enjoys her work. The suicide case, which is the one Ben is involved in, was the least interesting to me. I ended up guessing the outcome to that one rather early which was a bit disappointing, but I did like how that storyline led to some revelations about Ben.

With two big cases on her plate, Jessie relies more heavily on Zee than in previous books. I’m enjoying the friendship that has formed between the pair and how much working with Jessie has changed Zee. We get quite a bit of Colin in this book which I loved as I really enjoy his interactions with Jessie. I was definitely happy to see them move their relationship forward and I’m looking forward to seeing the pair spend more time together in future books. There were also quite a few scenes with Olivia, Jessie’s niece, as well some appearances of Olivia’s adorable dog Higgins.

We finally get confirmation in this book of some things from Ben’s past that I have long suspected. I’m curious what direction the author is going to take Ben’s character and how the discoveries he made in this book will effect him going forward. One thing that surprised me was that Jessie and Ben didn’t interact at all in this book. There were a few scenes where Colin was with Ben, but for the most part Ben’s storyline was completely separate from Jessie’s.

Overall Buried Deep was just as fantastic as the rest of the series and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in future books. I would definitely recommend the series for anyone looking for thrillers with a strong female lead.

**I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.**

4.5 Stars!!

The fourth and final book in the Jessie Cole series and what a book it was! There was so much going on that it was almost too much but I was still able to follow it, I was a little disappointed that there was not as much about Ben's history as I wanted or thought there would be.

I enjoyed getting more of these characters but unlike the other books in this series in this book the characters were working on seperate cases rather than working together, I much preferred it when they worked together.

OMG, that ending!! You can't end it like that, I need more!

It was almost like the author forgot it was the last book and just wrapped it up as quickly as they could on the last page. Which is sad because this was a great series written so well, I felt the ending just didn't do it justice. In saying that I still look forward to reading more from this author.

just Finished Book 4 in the jessie Cole Series. Hopefully not the last one. This one is definitely been my favorite in the series with not only one case but three cases to deal with.
PI Jessie Cole has taken up the job to locate and find Anne Corrigan who disappeared few years ago and now might be under a new identity. Zee (Jessie assistant) is assigned to find details about a missing person Arlene Synder who is believed to be dead/murdered by her husband. And then Collin (Jessie boyfriend) is dealing with a case that looks like suicide but can be a homicide.
All 3 cases well written and plotted. In this one we do get to see less of Ben Morrison as compared to other books in this series .

This is the last book in the Jessie Cole series, a series which I enjoyed reading & found addictive.

There are several stories in the book: Lacey – Jason kidnapping, Arlene Synder – missing person, Anne Corrigan – missing person, Roger Willis – continued from previous book, Ben’s background unravelling (his life before his accident) continued from previous books. One of these converges into another. The principal characters continue to be Jessie (private investigator) and Ben (reporter).

Lacey and her husband Jason are out to celebrate their anniversary. She is pregnant and looks forward to telling Jason about it, without realizing that he is at a stage where he is bored of her and in an affair. In the cab, they suddenly feel sick and find themselves kidnapped.

Penny, Daughter of Arlene Synder approaches Jessie, asking help in finding her mother. Her dad Nathaniel was imprisoned but later released based on DNA evidence. Jessi meets up with Arlene’s parents and friends, trying to trace what could have happened.

There is also a missing person case Jessie is asked to take up – that of Anne Corrigan, age 33. She went missing from home at the age of 16. This is connected to one of the earlier two cases.

Ben as a reporter has been asked to take up some cold cases. Roger Willis, a physical instructor who went to jail in the previous book after Ben intervenes when he misbehaves with his student is now out on bail. Many of the parents are worried. Ben still cannot recall much of what happened before his accident. Jessie also tries to help by meeting some of his neighbours.

All the stories are good though I was quite disappointed at how Ben’s story inched slowly to this book from previous ones but ended flat. This was a very enjoyable crime series with some very well-developed characters (including those in supporting roles such as Zee & Olivia). The books are interlinked in terms of carry-over of character backgrounds and hence should be read in order.

Wow! I loved this book until the last chapter. I’m not crazy about where the author took this so I’m not sure I’ll read the next book if one of the MC’s, that I really like, turns out to be a serial killer.

Anyway, this was a really good story about 3 different stories going on: Jason and Lacey were buried alive. Nathaniel Snyder was accused of killing his wife, on the testimony of his father-in-law. And someone hung Roger Willis, the pedophile. They were all very good. BUT mostly, I love Zee Gatley’s character. She has no problem with the voices of Marion, Lucy and Francis who occupy her head. She says she would be lonely without them. And they say some of the funniest things sometimes.

There was no romance in this and the F-bomb was used 31 times.

As to the narration: You don’t get much better than Kate Rudd. Her voices are perfect and when she reads it’s so full of feelings and emotions.

UPDATE: I just read where this is the last book in the series. Which means we'll never really know the truth about Ben? That's so uncalled for!

Another nail biting, suspenseful installment in this series! This is book number 4 in the Jessie Cole series and I want MORE! Please say this isn't the last one?! There are a few different story lines going at once that are equally intriguing and suspenseful and had me tearing through the pages. I love Jessie and I especially love Zee and shall I say Francis, Marion and Lucy?! :) Ben's character adds much intrigue! I find his whole back story fascinating and love where the author took it at the end! More please!

Fantastic character development, intrigue, suspense and the fast pace of this book leaves this with 5 stars from me! I highly recommend this series and suggest you start with book 1.

A big thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book! I found this as a "Read Now" on NetGalley which made my day!

Buried Deep is the 4th book in the Jessie Cole series. I recommend reading the previous books to get the back story, especially on Ben and Zee.

There's a lot going on in this book. Jessie, the Private Investigator, is looking for a woman that vanished years ago. Zee, is investigating a mother that was allegedly murdered years ago, and Colin is investigating a suicide/murder. As always, Ben is struggling with his past and lost memories.

The story was well written with likable characters. It was fast paced with lots of suspense. I recommend this series. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for a copy of T.R. Ragan's "Buried Deep" in exchange of an honest review.

Another great book by T.R. Ragan!! The first two books in this series I enjoyed the best so far. I read this one before the 3rd book for a challenge I'm in. P.I. Jessie Cole was awesome as always! She makes it seem like finding missing people is somewhat easy, but of course, that's not usually the case in real life. I definitely wouldn't want that type of pressure on me. I LOVE Zee!! Her character always makes me chuckle inside! I love hearing the conversations that go on between her and the ones she hears. Schizophrenia is a very interesting diagnosis. I love how this book shows that people with schizophrenia are capable of doing great work! I hope more books come out eventually for this series becuz I'd love Ben's character to continue. Especially since he just found out something big about who he is. Maybe this is it. Either way, I love this series and highly recommend any of T.R. Ragan's books! Particularly if you love mystery-thrillers!

I love how this author effortlessly has no less than 6 POV/story lines going through out the book and you are never at anytime lost or wondering whose head your in.

PI Jessie Cole ends up with two new cases on her already full plate. The first is a woman in her 30's who wants Jessie to find her mother who disappeared when she was a young child. The second case is an attorney asking her to locate a woman who went missing when she was a teenager as she is now the beneficiary of a large amount of money.

Jessie ends up turning the missing mother case over to her schizophrenic assistant Zee which is always a treat as along with the “friends” in her head its always full of humor with the situations she gets herself in.

Jessie's case of finding the missing beneficiary is a complex labyrinth. So many threads in this one.. Don't want to give to much away but it was twisted tale..

Meanwhile the pedophile coach story that was started in previous books takes a big turn. Both Colin, in a police capacity, and Ben Morrison, as a person of interest, are prominent here.

Everyone of those storylines comes to shocking conclusions. None more so than Ben's but I am used to the author torturing us with his story. Is the next book written yet??

Well book lovers we finally reached the end of the Jessie Cole Series by TR Ragan. I didn’t want this series to end. This is one of my favorite Thriller/ Suspense series and Ragan has become my favorite Thriller writer.

Buried Deep has you on edge the whole time. It’s full of twists and turns, but more importantly ANSWERS. We finally get to know the truth about Ben Morrison’s missing events from his past.

Jessie Cole and Zee are once more trying to find a missing women, while Colin is investigating a murder. I absolutely love the way Ragan puts you inside the murderer head without letting you know who he or she actually is. It’s make the story more intense and intriguing.

Ragan has an impeccable writing style that gets you suck into each and every story. I still can believe this is the last installment on the Jessie Cole Series. I wanted more. Thanks to @netgalley and TR Ragan for the opportunity to read this advance copy.

I really like the recurring characters in this series and enjoyed the mystery plots in this book. I do think this is a series that works best if you read the books in order as the nuances of character development are developed over the series.

The main plot in this book is a stand alone missing person case that Jessie is working on. I like the pacing and the plot but felt that I didn't get quite the closure on Lacey and her husband Jason that I would have liked.

Zee, Jessie's assistant worked a separate missing person case and it was interesting as well. Plus I liked the closure this case had.

Ben, a reporter and friend of Jessie, is also woven into the storyline. His situation is interesting and is developed over all the books and still has some open threads.

Oh I needed this. A very good read in what feels like a long list of mediocre reads. My only problem was the end.

SPOILERS

I found it a bitter pill that certain people weren’t brought to justice after an innocent man spend 10 years in jail. They got off way too easy.

While back at the ranch, lol. My sweet Ben, whom the author has made me love has an eye opening experience that I hated. I still love Ben and I would hate that justice be brought against him and not others.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance copy of Buried Deep, the fourth novel to feature Sacramento PI Jessie Cole.

Jessie’s business is keeping her occupied so when two new cases turn up she’s unsure if she can cope. Her solution is to let her assistant, Zee Gatley, loose on the Penny Snyder’s desire to find her mother who went missing 30 years ago while she takes the big money case, the hunt for heiress Elizabeth Ann Corrigan who must be found within two weeks to claim her inheritance. In the meantime Jessie’s friend, journalist Ben Morrison, is still trying to piece together his pre-amnesia past.

I thoroughly enjoyed Buried Deep which is a good, entertaining read with plenty of twists and turns. Despite the title it is not a particularly profound novel and there were several points where I expected twists to develop but turned out to be straightforward plot devices, like the call out of the blue to find Anne Elizabeth Corrigan. Instead it depends on these straightforward plot devices to generate excitement and suspense, which it manages to do well. The novel is told from various points of view, Jessie, her boyfriend Colin, Zee, Ben and most importantly the kidnapped and imprisoned Lacey and Jason Geiger who provide much of the tension. This should sow confusion and inattention in the reader but the simple plot lines and well defined roles make it quite compulsive. It helps that Jessie is the common denominator in all but Ben’s story.

There is a lighthearted warmth to much of the novel, mostly due to Jessie’s caring personality and Zee’s conversations with her schizophrenic alter egos. Lacey and Jason’s struggles to free themselves are darker but still optimistic but Ben’s story is a counterpoint, getting darker as the novel progresses.

To me there is a sense of finality to this novel with several things changing and discoveries made. Either the author is going to take the characters in a new direction or that’s it. Who knows?

Buried Deep is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Awesome story and narration! (audible review)

This book was so good! I enjoyed every bit of it! I love Jessi's character. She is a great investigator. I really like Zee too and all the friends in her head! LOL

This story had 3 investigations going on at once. There was always something happening. I really enjoyed Lacey and her husband scenes. What a POS he was. That was fun to listen to.

Zee's story was great too. I don't want to give away spoilers here so I will keep this review short. Just believe me when I tell you this is a good book and all the books in this series are great! I highly recommend them all.

As for the narration, Kate Rudd is amazing, she does such a great job on all the voices, the men sound like men and everyone gets their own distinct voice. She has a fantastic reading voice and reads with emotion as called for. Superb!

What a series that was! And what an ending!
All the storylines wrap up nicely. I'm just really sad that is the end. I hope to one day see more of Jessie and Ben.

Every single page on each of the 4 books was absolutely riveting, beautifully written and extremely well thought out.

Highly recommend the entire series.

Thanks to #netgalley and TR Ragan for the opportunity to read this advance copy.

The 4th book in the Jessie Cole series by T.R. Ragan. Jessie Cole is a private investigator who specializes in finding missing women. This latest book has Jessie involved with two new jobs. Jessie hands off one case to her assistant Zee. That one involves a woman who is trying to locate her mother who went missing, and was assumed murdered, 30 years prior. Jessie works on the second job - locating a woman who ran away as a teen and now is the beneficiary of a large estate. Meanwhile, Ben continues to struggle with his amnesia and memories from his past.

A great private investigator mystery series. I recommend starting with book 1 and reading this series in order. Fast-paced and compelling stories. Exciting, suspenseful, and clever.

Very good book!

Another sensational book in an intriguing series of murder and mystery that surround PI Jessie Cole. I love this whole series because there's usually between two and three mysteries to figure out and at least the same amount of twists and turns. If, like me, you have read the whole series, you know Jessie is a very skilled investigator. Her friend and employee, Zee, has an interesting mind. Jessie's boyfriend, Colin, is a Sacramento police detective, and is always circling around Ben Morrison, a crime reporter. Colin doesn't trust Ben, and he has a great but instinct even though Ben's secrets will not come out easily. Just a great cast of characters and amazing plotlines to carry us through!

A solid installment of the series. The Ben storyline really dragged on, and I can't say I was happy to see how it turned out. I've read from other reviewers that this is the last of the series, and that made me sad since you don't really get to see what happens between Jessie and Colin, but ah well. To be honest, their relationship was one of the least romantic that I've read to date. I'm glad that the rest of the cast and the mysteries themselves were enough to engage me. Do not read this series if you're hoping for an epic love story. If you're looking for interesting mysteries and likable characters, then give this series a try. You might really like it.
