“ oh! What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.“
My oh my did Alicia get herself tangled up in quite the sticky web... this was such an emotional thought-provoking book.... if I were going to label it I would probably call it more of a domestic thriller than a psychological thriller... from the title I am sure you can infer there is an affair... The fallout from this indiscretion is widespread with many casualties.... lies always seem to lead to more lies... digging the liar into a deeper and deeper hole, and leaving their loved ones the innocent victims reeling... but who is the biggest liar of them all???
This book was almost a mash up of women’s fiction and a thriller... The first 27% of this book was emotional, raw, and impactful... *have tissue handy* it was so heartwrenching, and there is a character in this book that my heart broke for more than any other... you will know who I’m talking about when you have finished this book... there is a small cast of characters in the book allowing us to really get to know each of them... I also believe we get the perspective of all of them with the exception of maybe one of them? Or perhaps there is a small chapter with his perspective? All of the characters were so well developed with their own unique voice... I felt for them, I cried for them, I judged them, and I forgave them... well not all of them!
The last 50% of this book was more thriller... Full of twists and turns and reveals and that sense of urgency... I still found myself wondering what I would do in this situation? and questioning some of the characters actions... I think this book was a really good example of what people wil do when pushed to their limits.... leaving me to question what my own breaking point would be...
Strongly recommend if you enjoy a well done thought provoking thriller...
*** many thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this book ***
A dark, twisted, emotional journey telling the story of a single affair and the lies that led to the destruction of trust among those who she loved most. Sheryl Browne has woven quite the tale here with this knockout of a domestic noir thriller! What starts as an emotional unraveling of a marriage quickly turns into a living nightmare for all involved in this new novel by Browne.
About the Book
Alicia has been telling lies for 16 years, and they are about to catch up with her. At a dark time in her husband Justin’s life, Alicia Cole turned to the arms of another man. Now that affair which stayed buried for so long is threatening to ruin her family, as Paul Radley turns back up in their lives.
From the moment Justin sets eyes on Alicia and Paul talking close in the corner of a party, he suspects what he has denied for so long. Alicia was unfaithful. But the affair is only the beginning of the sordid web of lies and deceit surrounding their marriage. And it will take its toll on not just Alicia and Justin, but on their children as well.
As Alicia tells more lies to try and keep her family, she and Justin find themselves hurtling towards a shocking truth about their past. This book will make you wonder whether any secret can ever truly stay buried.
Reflection
This book is raw and filled with emotion. As far as thrillers go, I’d put this in the domestic thriller category, not the psychological thriller category. It will tug completely on your heart, as you see the devastating impact Alicia’s secret has on her husband and children. The book explores the tower of lies that build up when you try to keep a secret buried, and what happens when that tower topples over.
One of the brilliant things about this book are that there are very few characters. This allows you to really know the impact the secret and subsequent events has on each person in a very intimate way. This could easily be envisioned as a limited series program on HBO. It is filled with heartbreaking moments, twisted lies, and dark secrets threatening to come to life.
As you read this, you may think you know who is right and who is wrong, but these secrets go much deeper than is initially revealed. You’ll find yourself unsure of who to trust, and who else might be keeping secrets. Your heart will break for this family and what they are going through. And just when you think you can’t take it anymore, you’ll get those final twists. I am excited for other readers to enjoy this book!
How many things can go wrong in Justin's life? He is a dedicated husband, father and respected doctor. He was on the brink of a nervous breakdown after he walked into a crime scene at his parents home. His mother, father and sister were brutally murdered. Understandably he fell into a state of depression, finding it hard to function in daily life.
Then Justin meets with tragedy again. The unthinkable happens. You will get no spoilers here, so I will leave it unsaid, just know it is a big one. As he is trying to move through this latest life tragedy, he is comforted that he has his wife Alicia at his side. Or does he? It comes to light that Alicia has been having an affair. He begins to question if his daughter Sophie and son Luke are even his biological children.
Up until this point this seemed like a story of a family faced with many tragedies. Then the twists begins...Sophie disappears, did she leave on her own or did someone take her? The first few pages in the book had opened up with a person struggling with the decision to end someones life. Who is this person? Is the kind family man and doctor capable of killing someone? Even for revenge? The Affair ends with a bang and all your questions will be answered. You may be surprised as to what people are capable of when being put to the test.
Wow this book caught he a bit off guard. I was expecting a domestic thriller-which it ended up being in the second half, but the book touched on so many other subjects. Obviously, someone had an affair, hence the title of the book. It delves into the ways an affair can literally shatter the entire family dynamics. It takes you through the challenges that each spouse and child face in this situation. This book is about love, loss and the strength of a family put to the test.
Can we talk about this cover? This cover is fabulous. It is actually what initially drew me to this book. It defiantly has curb appeal. If you pay close attention towards the end of the book, you will grasp the importance of this cover. "The rose bush symbolizes immortal love, even through time or death." It will make sense to you after you read the book!
A big thank you to Sheryl Browne, Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC.
The Affair by Sheryl Browne is described as a compelling and gripping psychological thriller but I’d say this one falls more into a suspenseful drama. The story has multiple points of view with the majority being Alicia, her husband and her teen daughter.
Along with a teenager the couple has a newborn and as the whole family heads out in the car a horrific crash occurs and they lose their son. As the funeral takes place an old colleague of Alisha’s shows and her husband becomes suspicious of the relationship.
Now of course the idea that a wife had an affair and had been lying about it would cause some major family drama and that is the center of the entire book. The suspense lies in the fact that when the daughter finds out she runs off and the couple cannot find her for days and days.
Last year I had read The Babysitter by Sheryl Browne and absolutely loved it and in a way I could use my same words from my review there with this book in the fact that the story to me was one that was fairly straightforward instead of full of shocking twists and turns. The difference really between me absolutely loving The Babysitter and coming away a bit meh with this one is that in the first it was a matter you just know things are going to ramp up more and more and with this it was just hashing out an affair which wasn’t as exciting. The daughter missing gave a slight bit of suspense but the action wasn’t quite as over the top. In the end it’s not a bad read I just know that I was way more engaged with the other and wanted a bit more.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I finished this over the weekend and had a throroughly good time with it. It wasn't too taxing on the brain which is ideal when you read to relax as I do. "The Affair" is a compelling psychological thriller and part of a three book deal Browne has with publisher Bookouture. Her previous book "The Babysitter" was also published by Bookouture in March 2018.
"The Affair" explores whether a lie can ever be told for the good of your family. Be prepared to question your morals whilst reading this book. The characterisation is great and the writing style worked well for me. I'm going to keep this short and sweet as this is a difficult book to review without giving away details that will spoil it for future readers. Let's just say that there are many twists and secrets and lies aplenty.
This was my first book from this author so I definitely need to try some of Browne's previous books having loved this thrill ride so much. The standout aspect of the book for me was the writing style - it was so readable and the style pulls you into the story and holds you there until the end!
Publication Date - 10th August 2018.
Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
It starts very emotionally, with a terrible accident which devastates a family, and this is definitely a tear jerker which engages the reader’s emotions. After that, though, things just seemed to go round in circles for ages (there’s a lot of “who said what to who about what”) and I never really managed to engage with the story, to the extent that a couple of days after finishing it, I find it quite hard to say what it was actually about.
Well, there’s a family (Justin, Alicia, teenage daughter Sophie and baby Luke) whose lives are about to be torn apart due to an “affair” Alicia had in the past. There’s Alicia’s sister who kind of has a role and there’s a very villainous villain. None of the characters really came together for me though - Justin was probably the most fully realised and much of the story is from his viewpoint, but Alicia and her sister Jessica never emerged for me much and there’s little explanation as to why the villain is the way he is. (I don’t need a full psychological evaluation but a little backstory would be nice.) And I’m still not sure what Justin’s tragic past had to do with anything.
Plot wise, a few things jarred. I’d hope the police would take the disappearance of a vulnerable fifteen year old girl a little more seriously than they seem to do here - I’m pretty sure they would at least want to establish she was safe. And it annoyed me that Alicia worried about “custody” and “access rights” - terminology which is now very outdated, and yes your average person might not know that, but... Alicia is a children and families social worker! (And should also know that at the age of fifteen, a child might also be expected to have some say in the matter.)
I couldn’t be more fed up of books being marketed as Gripping Psychological Thrillers with Shocking Twists. I don’t necessarily need a Shocking Twist in everything I read, I just need a good story. And in this case I’m not even sure what the shocking twist was supposed to be - nothing happened that was hugely surprising.
The Affair has a lot of great reviews so clearly many people enjoyed it, but I’m afraid it wasn’t for me.
Alicia's been telling lies. And now they've come back to haunt her. When an old college turns up at a party, Alicia comes face to face with the man who has the potential to ruin her perfect family life. He wouldn't, would he?
OMG. The beginning of this book is so sad. I did not think I was going to be able to read the rest of the book as the tears just kept coming. Alicia is married to Justin and they have two children. We know there has been an affair but just what is the secret that could potentially ruin Alicia's marriage. Is it just the affair? Or is there something else?
This is another book that you can't give away too much of the contents as it would spoil the book for other readers. The story is told my several different people's point of view. The pace is steady in this well written book. We get a mixed amount of heartbreak, tension, twists and shock horror at the events occurring in this throughout this book. I really liked the final twist. I honestly never saw that coming. To be honest, I would probably have done the same thing if it was me. Another great read by the author,Sheryl Browne.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Sheryl Browne for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Affair.... oh it is so much more than that! What a page turner this one is.. so good ... and so sad.
This is is a tough book to write a review of without giving anything away. It is obvious from the title that there is an affair... but who is guilty? Years of lies come back to haunt Alicia in this story... and then a car accident changes everything for everyone.. the twists keep coming and it will have you hooked... it did me. There are things that will shock you and things that you do see coming.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased
I have to admit I don't think I've ever cried at a psychological thriller before but cry I did with this one. The start of this book is so powerful and emotional that I was an absolute wreck. You will understand when you read it for yourself but I can't say anything about the why as to do so would be a bit of a spoiler to say the least. The story does turn though into a different direction becoming more tense and dark.
There is a small cast of characters in this book of which some have you changing your mind in how you think about them. The story itself flicks mainly between Alicia and her husband Justin with a scattering of a couple of other characters. This seemed to give the story an added edge as you get to see things from a few different point of views which allowed you get more into that characters head and gave you better understanding.
This is another author who I am ashamed to say I have not read any of their previous work. I will be rectifying that after this book though. The Affair certainly held so many surprises making this an unputdownable read. I loved that I had no idea what the author had in store next for me. When you think you know how the story is going to go the author steers you in another direction so that I had to keep turning those pages to find out what was going to happen.
The Affair is a great read that has left me desperate to read more books by the author. I have no doubt that fans of psychological thrillers are going to thoroughly enjoy this one.
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
..seriously stop reading this review and just buy the book
... I mean its easily Sheryl Browne's best book to date, and has left me reeling.
...I was so gripped by this that I read it in record time, and even when I paused for a break, my mind was still on it
I can' talk about the plot as I may give spoilers, I can't really discussed the relatable to but fatally flawed characters that get under your skin, as there is so many thread that I may accidentally spoil if I say the wrong thing or phrase it in the wrong way.
In fact Sheryl Brown has written a book that is practically impossible review as everything is so cleverly crafted from the start. Actually the beginning of the book had me in tears and had me initially wondering if I was really readinga psychological thriller, but it does all make sense for the genre shortly after that and I didn't mind as the writing was just so powerful.
I felt as though I knew this family intimately by the end and even though I did feel at times I had guessed some elements there were then other shocks thrown in too.
This is addictive, compulsive book that has blown me away. Clear yourself a few hours where you can lock yourself away from the real world, pick up The Affair and then when you are done you may be able to emphasise with where my head is at the moment - simply superb!
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Justin and Alicia were happy; still deeply in love after all their years of marriage. Their fifteen-year-old daughter Sophie and their surprise arrival, baby Luke, who was six months old, completed their family. Justin was a well-respected doctor while Alicia worked with domestic violence victims. The morning the four of them were rushing to work; to school, when a vehicle ran a red light and crashed into their car before racing off, was the morning their lives changed forever.
Alicia had been keeping secrets. She was doing it for reasons she perceived as right – but the explosive release of those secrets meant a shattered family and an evil presence who was determined to take control. Devastation, grief and the impact of lies was tearing them apart. Could they possibly recover from a disaster such as this?
The Affair by Sheryl Browne is an intense psychological thriller which to me was predictable from around a third of the way in. I could see what was going to happen, and who was going to do it. That said, there are plenty of twists mixed with horrible moments – recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read and review.
Justin and Alicia’s lives are turned upside down following the death of their young son in a car crash . On the day of his funeral, a man from Alicia’s past returns and Justin realises that his daughter may not be biologically his. Justin confronts Alicia’s sister who confirms his fears but Sophie overhears and later runs away.
She thinks she has found safety in the home of the man who says he is her real father but Paul’s actions begin to make her feel uneasy. Meanwhile Justin and Alicia are trying to negotiate their relationship whilst dealing with the pain of losing their son and their panicked search for their daughter.
This has to be one of the most painfully drawn out stories ever... it wasn’t a bad read once it got to the point but oh my god did it drag on and on and on and on which I found bored me overall and by that time I didn’t care much to finish the story if you get my drift but I plodded on regardless...
"We all say stuff, Sophie- heat- of- the- moment- stuff, when we're hurting or angry, which doesn't reflect what we really feel inside".
The Affair by Sheryl Browne
I have a bone to pick with this book. I was so busy reading it I almost missed SNL and it was a new episode. I came THIS CLOSE..that NEVER happens to me, ever.
So this book is..well..really REALLY well written. And poignant. What it is NOT however is a typical domestic thriller. Not at all.
It is actually really heavy duty stuff. Yes, it is called The Affair. But do not let the title deceive you.
The affair is about family and guilt and love and loss and grief and pain. There is alot of pain in this book. Almost to much for me honestly. It is pretty deep and I mean that in a sincere way but I would say do not go into this expecting any fake drama, smut, hot and steamy affairs or anything like that.
I am not even going to touch on the plot this time. I'd recommend this book. It was so different then what I had thought I was getting and is so much of a family drama more then a thriller although there is that aspect as well.
Four stars from me for a thoughtful and searingly poignant book.
Hey, I imagine having such a fantastic response such as this author did with ‘The Babysitter’ a bit like a number 1 in the ‘hit parade’ ( showing my age ) leaves you thinking ‘how do I replicate that’ and ‘will it be as good’.....well ‘The Affair’ manages to do that....I was almost worried to read it in case it didn’t....but the tension, drama and story telling is back in this emotive story.... It is ( without giving any plot away ) a very shocking story about a family that is wrecked ( in more ways than one ) by ‘an affair’...to say more would be giving things away, however I will say that the story starts with a big shock, BAM, in your face and it carries on from there until the very last sentence..... The characters, although not all likeable, are strong and all too real and the ‘The Affair’ impacts these people in many ways and with deep consequences I LOVED it, a great read, told in this authors special easy to read style that brings you in and keeps you there through, what is, a living nightmare....... 10/10 5 stars
Goldilocks and the three bears — we all remember this story, don't we? Well if you don't, then read this book. It will give you a glimpse of what could have happened, of what would have happened, had Goldilocks been devious and psychotic! Gotcha!!
My second book by Sheryl Browne, and I was extremely apprehensive about reading it as I wasn't overly fond of reading her previous one. But this was something different. The book pulled me in from the initial chapters. The theme of the book was in the title so that was no surprise, but the story pleasantly was!
Alicia, Justin, Sophie and Luke = a happy family
A road traffic accident
Alicia, Justin, and Sophie = a devastated family (a.k.a. the 3 bears)
Enter Paul (a.k.a. Goldilocks) and events start rigmaroling out of control.
Like Goldilocks who tries everything in the bears' house, Goldilocks Paul here wants the Mama Bear, Alicia. The parts of the affair keep bobbing up and down throughout the story till it reaches a climax.
Loved Papa Bear Justin, he was everything a man should be. Losing his children 6 month old Luke to death, with 15 year old Sophie running away, and the affair being revealed, he was the man at the end of his tether who still persevered for his family. Mama Bear Alicia was often confused and helpless, and wringing her hands instead of talking and confronting. Baby Bear Sophie ran away from the truth and found herself in a luxurious maze not knowing the doors of the maze were shut fast.
Then there were the niggles, they wormed their way in. The story dragged at some parts, the scenes felt repetitive, the characters other than Justin were not likable. AND IT WAS NOT A PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER WITH A SHOCKING TWIST!! Praise the skies, it wasn't as this was a family drama sitting on the verge of insanity but never really dipping into that insanity.
Sheryl Browne kept me mighty entertained with her book, and I would love to see where she goes next.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Bookouture, and this is my honest and unbiased opinion
Alicia is married to Justin and they have two children, a teenage daughter, Sophie, and a newborn son, Lucas. A terrible tragedy occurs and Justin starts to suspect that Alicia has been unfaithful .As Alicia tries to keep her family together by telling more lies it starts taking a toll on their relationship and on the kids as well. Will they be able to save their marriage or will the lies and deceit finally catch up and destroy everything that Alicia tried so hard to build?
The Affair by Sheryl Browne is a very quick read with a few twists along the way.Told in different POVs it's easy to follow and more of domestic suspense than a psychological thriller.Overall an entertaining read I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review
The title of this novel sets the reader’s focus from the first page. But no spoilers from me. This relationship drama is set around Birmingham and has many lies and secrets. The format and tension within the pages is similar to Sheryl’s last novel The Babysitter. There is a psychological thriller element too when the reader is repeatedly nagged “what if?”
I liked how this story is written in short chapters from different characters’ point of view. These characters have their faults and are not the most likeable of people. They make numerous mistakes and have to live with them. Communication between the characters is a little strained and the reader will wish to urge them to talk to each other and move forward together. Of course some incidents may have occurred years ago and raise their ugly head in the present day. Oh, the joys of adult relationships!
I found The Affair to be an emotional GOOD 4 star read and I think it would make a good television drama. I liked the perspectives and found it meaningful with this quote highlighting the emotional intensity…
He’d begun to wonder how much one really needed in life. The fancy cars, flat-screen TVs, the latest in technology - they were just things, accumulated throughout life. Stuff you couldn’t take with you when you ceased to exist. It was all meaningless without someone to share it with.
I hate leaving negative reviews for books but I just found this one really boring and ended up skim-reading it. I'm sure some people might enjoy it but it just didn't capture my attention or cover any new ground for me. I also think the tag line 'You trusted her - you shouldn't have' was misleading, I can't see that it's particularly relevant to the story.
With thanks to Netgalley and Bookoutre for this ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.
I first discovered Sheryl Browne after reading The Babysitter earlier this year. When I discovered Bookoutre was due to release The Affair I was excited to get my hands on it.
On a balcony a person stares the fifteen floors down to the pavement, they have total control over their victim. The person contemplates what the victims death will be like as they plunge to the ground.....
Alicia was happily married to Justin a hospital consultant, they had two children fifteen year old Sophie and six month old Lucas. When Alicia`s car broke down , Justin offered to drive Alicia, Sophie and baby Lucas to school and work. On the way a car drove into them with devastating results.
Shortly after the crash Paul Radley a work colleague who Alicia had an affair with sixteen years came to the house. Paul has returned to the UK after working in Dubai and wanted to start the affair again. Alicia`s affair with Paul had been a mistake and was desperate for Justin to never find out. When Alicia`s sister Cassie tells Justin the truth the already traumatized family shatters into tiny pieces.
First of all well done to Bookoutre for the eye-catching front cover.
The first part of this book shocked me to the core, I was not expecting that. The aftermath after the crash felt so real and left me in tears.
After that the story went went at a fast paced with plenty of twists and turns. The story was told from the POV of Alicia, Justin and Sophie. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. Justin a doctor instilled to do no harm who easily slipped into violence to protect his family. I initially disliked Alicia until she explained her affair and I completely changed my mind. But my heart went out to poor Sophie who overheard something she shouldn't, putting her self in danger.
My only criticism Is I felt like there were gaps in the story that needed explaining. The murder of Paul`s family years earlier was glossed over, but I wanted to know if the killer had been arrested. I was also interested in Cassie and wanted to know if she was helping Paul or just using the situation to her advantage.
I still enjoyed this book but it stopped it being a five star read. I look forward to Sheryl`s next book.
I’ve enjoyed Sheryl Browne’s darker side for a number of years so when I read the blurb for The Affair, I knew I had to read it!
The cast are perfectly formed, each playing their own part in this twisted tale of the heart. Ms Browne took me on a rollercoaster of emotions; I cried, I feared….did I feel all warm and fuzzy? Well that’s my secret!
I really felt for Justin, one of the innocent parties in this story. He can see his family slowly falling apart and he can’t do anything to stop it. His emotions were all over the place, grief, anger, fear. Will this man ever be happy again
Sophie, oh my. She’s a strong lass for her age but when she hits rock bottom, I just wanted to save her! I wanted to give her a massive hug. My heart really went out to her.
I instantly disliked Paul. I know he was purposely written to be hated but Ms Browne has done an excellent job with him. I got the sense of entitlement from him and when he’s trying to destroy someone else’s life by taking what’s theirs, he was definitely not someone I was going to warm to!
As for Alicia, karma is a bitch! One mistake, a moment of weakness is coming to bite her in the backside big style! But what unfolded before my eyes was way beyond karma and I wanted to stop it all!
Sheryl Browne lets you think you know what’s going on and then wham she comes in from your blind side and knocks your thoughts. The Affair is a tense read, I couldn’t stop clicking through the pages. I was desperate to know whether the family would survive Hurricane Paul hell-bent on causing maximum destruction. And oh that climax. Bravo Ms Browne!!!
This left me cold. I've been reading it off and on for a while now, leaving it, reading another book, coming back to it etc etc.
To me it was just your typical paint by numbers twisty turny psychological thriller. Maybe I've read too many recently and becoming jaded but not for me. Sorry
This is a great book - full of twists and turns and I loved it. Just re-read the blurb to see what I can say about this book as I don’t want to spoil it for you. What I can say is that you will be drawn in to the lives of Alicia and Justin and you will feel sympathy, frustration and lots of other emotions as the story progresses. This booked had me hooked from the first few pages and I just had to finish it tonight to see how it ended. If you love a good emotional thriller then this is the book for you. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Ok so- I REALLY did like this book BUT I felt like it drug on and on and on and on. I never skim books and I found myself skimming some of this one. The end was amazing- the book was good so overall a really great read!! I'm a fan of Sheryl Browne- no doubt!
"...love could drive a person to acts of despair or even madness...cold-blooded murder might have its basis in love, or unrequited love."
More a family drama than a thriller, this book touches the on familiar theme of deceit. Alicia is married to Justin and they have two children, a teenage daughter, Sophie, and a newborn son, Lucas. When tragedy strikes the family, all of the lies and secrets come spilling out from unexpected sources and in very damaging fallout. NO SPOILERS but when all is said and done, the truth will be revealed and the consequences may hard to face. Can this family be saved?
A very quick read with a few surprises but if you read books in this genre, you won't be far off the mark if you predict what is likely to happen early on in the book. The narrative shifts between the points of view of Alicia, Justin and Sophie and the story is easy to follow. There is a lot of internal angsting going on in the narration and plenty of blame to go around between the main characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.
This book was fantastic!!!! Family aspect with a great twist that I loved. The characters were written beautifully. The first book I have ever read from this author. I highly recommend it. Great plot with a twist that shocked me!!!! I was hooked from the start!!!! I couldn't put this book down. I loved it that much. Find a way to read this if you can🙂
Once again I have the pleasure of reading a Sheryl Browne book, it’s no secret she is one of my favourite writers so I always leap when there is a new book to review. It’s a psychological thriller they say … so why am I openly crying when I’m barely anywhere into the story?! The Affair will mix with your emotions until you feel as though all your innards have been ripped out. What can I possibly say here that will do justice to the impeccable writing style which makes it so easy to read and fall into their world. I can mention there is an affair without blowing it’s disguise, but which character is the cheater? For that revelation you will just have to read to discover that juicy info. Not only is it an affair but also the straw that breaks the camels back with all the ripple effects. Voiced mainly by Alicia and hubby Justin, with snippets from teenage daughter Sophie you will be keen to keep reading and probably speeding up the closer you get to the finish line, this is a story that will consume your thoughts, play havoc with your senses but it’s totally worthwhile. My thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for my copy which I read and reviewed honestly.
I love this author's books and this one was no exception!!
The characters in this book are great, well developed and they work so well together. I loved their interaction and it definitely had me guessing.
It is very well written and had me gripped right from the first few pages, the plot is excellent, I was completely hooked and I loved the ending - it is completely brilliant!
You think you know someone well. Maybe it's time to think again ...
I already have read some books by this author and that is a sign that I absolutely love what she puts on paper. Apart from messing with your head (which I totally adore as long as it's in a book lol) she has a truely wonderful way of describing emotions that bring tears to your eyes and break your heart. You so want to jump into the book and step in. It's an enthralling story that keeps your attention all the way through with an interesting twist to add even more spice. So, dear Sheryl, I am looking forward to your next book.
Thank you Sheryl Browne, Bookourture and Netgalley.
