Ghost Stories: Original Tales & Ghostly Urban Legends

Rate this book
Originally produced as an immersive audiobook experience (with narration, actors, music, and sound effects), Seth Andrews has drawn upon his decades-long experience as a broadcaster and storyteller to conjure an eerie otherworld of ghosts, spirits, devils, and supernatural beasts. This Kindle companion - best read aloud by a capable storyteller - provides the print version of those stories with illustrations by Vincent Deporter, although purists will want to experience "Ghost Stories" in its primary audiobook format. A mix of original tales and popular urban legends, these fourteen free-standing chapters favor ghouls over gore, providing easily-digestible vignettes of supernatural fiction, ghostly lore, and creepy fun for anyone who's ever enjoyed a haunted house or Halloween campfire story.

I'm not much of a horror fan but I enjoy Seth Andrews' annual Ghost Stories show on his podcast so I decided to invest an Audible credit on his recently-released collection of stores. There are fourteen stories in this collection, with some original stories and some spooky urban legends.

The production is excellent, very professional. Seth has an amazing voice and his narration is fantastic. In addition to Seth, there were nine other voice actors involved. The stories also featured realistic sound effects and chilling background music. He also credits a Georgia law enforcement officer for providing consultation for police procedures.

I listened to this on my recent road trip to Wisconsin and it kept me entertained and awake along the lonely deer carcass-lined roads. It was a lot of fun.

Fun fact: I met Seth Andrews at the September Minnesota Atheist event, he was the featured speaker. His podcast is currently the highest downloaded atheist podcast.

Audio Drama of this is Exceptional

This was an enjoyable book, with a superior audio experience. I started with the audio first, then found the book by accident. For the full effect, you should listen to the audio alone. It is a full production, with music, sound effects and Seth's amazing narration. Perfect for Halloween and a spooky thrill. There are some wonderful tales that are truly creepy. I hope he does these every year. An outstanding audio experience and a great read.

I really wanted to like this collection, but I found the stories to be mediocre and derivative. On a more positive note, I enjoyed the brief historical interludes between the stories.

I feel bad for not liking this book better, the author is a helluva nice guy and I admire his initiative to put this collection together and share it with us.

Love a creepy ghost story that sounds like it should be told round a campfire. Love urban Legends. This book had both spliced together. Listened on audible and the narration was really creepy. Would recommend.

The music and sound effects (production quality) certainly amped up the quality and creepiness of these stories. I think it's better as an audiobook than stories to just read. Some real creepy stories in this. Some stories were better than others, but overall creepier than most.

The first story really got me chills!!! After that, the stories were either less intense or very less intense. Some tales deserved to be in the story-telling horror urban legends and some don't.

I love Seth Andrews and hearing him tell ghost stories. Some of the stories in this book were meh, but I can imagine I'd hang on every word if Seth had read them. That being said if you like ghost stories and silly spooky stories then this is a good read.

Such a fantastic audio production! I haven’t seen the kindle version, but I imagine you’d miss a lot if you only read it as words on a page. The stories are great, and most of them are genuinely spooky!
