EXCERPT: DUBLIN
The first night of winter and it was wet, very wet, and she knew the rain was pouring in drops down her face, could feel them drip, drip, dripping off the end of her nose. She could feel the tears too, hot and stingy in her eyes. Someone had given her a cigarette, miraculously she's managed to smoke halfway down, but it was soggy and extinguished now, which was no bad thing. She'd never smoked, why add to her list of failures at this late stage?
At the far end of the lane, something or someone caught her eye, but she must be mistaken for who, in their right mind, would be out on an evening like this? Probably a stray cat, attracted by the heat and aromas that emanated from the fans blowing into the frigid night air.
Her thoughts darted back to the kitchen behind her, Kevin, bloody Kevin. Well, she hadn't seen that coming had she. She was still reeling, angry, upset and, yes, she could admit it to herself, broken-hearted. And Valentina? Kevin was in love with Valentina, he'd told her so himself, so it must be true.

ABOUT 'WHAT HAPPENED TO US?' Sometimes the end is only the beginning... After ten years together, Dubliner Carrie Nolan is devastated when she's dumped by Kevin Mulvey without even a backwards glance. But on reflection, she had been sacrificing her own long-term happiness by pandering to his excessive ego – well, not anymore! While Kevin is 'living the dream' with his beautiful new Brazilian girlfriend, Carrie seeks solace from a circle of mismatched strangers who need her as much as she needs them. Then suddenly a catastrophic sequence of events leaves Carrie unsure if there's anyone she can trust. How far do you need to fall before you realise it's never too late to start again?

MY THOUGHTS: What Happened to Us? is a lovely read - uncomplicated, with just the right amount of angst and drama, a broken heart and a romance along with just a touch of a crime thriller all delivered in a nice easy to read format.

Carrie is a lovely character - one of life's fixers, but this is something even she can't fix. There are things she can do though - like help Jane, the elderly publican across the road, and Luke, who seems every bit as lost as the stray dog he was watching out for. Carrie is the sort of person I would like for a friend. She is warm, caring and totally selfless, which Kevin has been taking advantage of for years!

Kevin and Valentina are very easy to dislike. Kevin for being the lazy, selfish, disloyal git that he is, and Valentina for being grasping, greedy, conniving and whiny. Don't even let me get started on Valentina's two bullying 'cousins'!

With an engaging storyline and equally engaging characters, this certainly didn't feel like 444 pages . I romped through it, rooting for Carrie, Luke, Jane and Teddy (the dog) every step of the way. An enjoyable, entertaining and uplifting read.

I listened to the audiobook of What Happened to Us?, narrated by Clare McKenna. While I loved her Irish accent, and she also did a brilliant job of the Columbian accents, she did speak very fast.

⭐⭐⭐.7

4 charming stars! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Carrie Nolan has been with her boyfriend, Kevin, for ten years when he dumps her for another woman, the stunning Valentina.

Luckily, Carrie sees the silver lining right away; she has catered to Kevin for far too long and now it’s time for her to live her life the way she wants.

A series of bad things happen, and Carrie needs her family and friends now more than ever. Luckily Carrie has a cast of supportive friends, and guess what else? She has a blog!

Set during Christmas, What Happened to Us is a comforting, cozy read. It features themes of friendship, love, and family. I loved to loathe Kevin and Valentina, and I easily rooted for warm and likable Carrie throughout. Watching her evolve as a character was uplifting, as was the ending to this lovingly-crafted book. Faith Hogan has a new fan!

Thanks to Aria and the author for the invitation to participate on the blog tour, as well as for the complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own.

This was a delightful heartwarming story, comfort food for the mind!!!

Carrie is being added to my book BFF list! Loved her! She was such a wonderful character, who was going through such a terrible time, and she handled it like a champ! I loved riding the roller coaster of emotion with her throughout this book... I cried with her... I raged with her... I laughed with her... I smiled with her... Love reading a story that completely sucks you into the character’s life...

Carrie is devastated when her longtime boyfriend Kevin breaks up with her... even more devastating Kevin is also her business partner and his new girlfriend Valentina works at the restaurant that he and Carrie co-own... it sure was fun hating on Kevin and Valentina throughout this book, and they sure made it easy! Soon after the break up carry realized how much time she had spent not only taking care of Kevin but his high maintenance mother as well.... Carrie also made several new friends including: Jane an elderly lady, Luke a handsome potential love interest, and Teddy an adorable dog... I absolutely loved the bond that all these characters formed with one another, they were so there for each other... and for those of you who believe in karma, as carrie’s life was getting better and better, Kevin began to realize how much he needed her! Kevin my friend Karma is a bioch!

Such a charming story of new beginnings and second chances with a bit of a festive feel! As Christmas approaches there are some strange goings-on in the restaurant... there is also a question of romance between carry and Luke? Will these two find their way under the mistletoe? I strongly encourage you to pick this book up and find out for yourself! It is such a treat, a little escape that will give you hope!

*** many thanks to Faith Hogan and Aria for my copy of this book ***

5☆ An Uplifting and Heart Warming Read.

What Happened To Us? Is an uplifting and heart warming read about strength, new beginnings, friendship, betrayal, starting over, a good sprinkle of romance, drama and humour.

Carrie has just had her world blown apart, when she finds out her long term boyfriend and business partner Kevin is having an affair.
Not only is he having an affair with a younger women, she is also one of their employees..... a waitress called Valentina. Who is keen to step into Carrie's position.

One night Carrie steps into the back alley at work, when it all gets too much, she gets locked out and by chance she bumps into the handsome Luke who is looking for his dog Teddy.
Little does she know that their chance encounter will turn out to enrich her life. Luke becomes a good friend and she ends up looking after Teddy the adorable fur Baby.

Can Carrie find the strength to move on from Kevin, their business and his betrayal?
Will Luke be able to win over Carries fragile heart or are they best off as friends?
I will let you find out for yourselves.

This is my second book by Faith Holgan and Her books just keep on getting better.
I really enjoyed watching Carrie's confidence and strength grow throughout the story. I warmed to her character pretty much straight away.
I did enjoy disliking Kevin and Valentina, Faith got their characters spot on.
But for me any book that features a gorgeous fur Baby like Teddy is a winner for me! He stole my heart!

What Happened To Us? Is a feel good and pleasant read.
Hogan has a lovely compelling writing style thats full of warmth.
The Characters are relatable, well thought out, somewhat flawed yet strong, you can't help routing for them to suceed. Well some of them that is!
The storyline was endearing and engaging, the romance fizzed along perfectly, there is plenty of drama and humour which makes for a compulsive read.

Would I recommend reading this Gorgeous Book..... Most Definitely..... Yes!

I would like to thank Netgalley & Aria for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Carrie Nolan is left feeling alone and devastated when her boyfriend Kevin who she has been dating and living with for ten-years announces that he is leaving her. The two run a very successful restaurant together, The Sea Pear, and Kevin’s choice of new woman is the restaurants newest waitress, twenty-year-old glamorous Valentina with her perfect body, flowing hair and big boobs. With Kevin being in his forties and not quite so glamorous, is it really love for Valentina?

Carrie must now learn to be on her own. She is hurt and the situation isn’t helped by the fact that all three have to continue working together. When stranger Luke comes into her life, as well as little dog Teddy, could her life be heading in a different direction?

What Happened to Us? is a very sweet, easy read. The characters are all enjoyable to spend your time with, well not so much Valentina and Kevin, part of me was questioning why Carrie had ever stayed with the weasel of a man who couldn’t even buy his own socks!

Although the book begins with a sad time in Carrie’s life, it is about her coming to terms with what has happened and how she moves on, as well as some realisations along the way for other characters.

The book is told in the third person and from numerous points of view. Although not a point of view per se, I enjoyed Kevin’s friend Jim and his wise words, though they often were met with deaf ears.

As the book heads towards Christmas you can tell that something big is building up and I wasn’t disappointed. This is the first book I have read by Faith Hogan, it most certainly won’t be my last. I love how she manages to get you emotionally involved in the story and her scene setting is just amazing. I certainly felt like I was in cold, wet Dublin most of the time. Hot Chocolate and cosy blankets were needed!!

4.5 rounded to 4 stars

I picked this one to read for 3 reasons. First, it has been on my TBR for several years; second, it is a Christmas book (actually it isn’t—my bad for mis-shelving it); and third, it is a near tome at 466 pages, and I felt like digging into something big. Actually, there is a 4th reason. I was being very ambivalent in selecting my next read and I told myself the next “Christmas” novel I see on my list that I have on kindle will be the one. And that’s how this one vaulted to the top of the TBR. And guess what? It was really good!

Irishwoman Faith Hogan is a new writer for me. The thing I like most is how much depth there is in her writing, at least in this book. The gist is Kevin and Carrie are business and domestic partners with Carrie doing the heavy lifting. Kevin dumps Carrie for a Colombian bombshell. Complications ensue. Minor characters flock in to round out the story. Sound banal? NO!!! I loved it! The story is long, yes, but that’s entirely forgivable as the extra pages are used to develop the characters. We really get to know Carrie and Kevin, and the side characters are also well done. Though there are quite a few minor players, I never found myself wondering who was whom. Is this a romance? There are some elements of that, but this is more of a story of second chances (never give up!), deep friendships, and a bit of a mystery. It is a touching heartfelt read (with no hints of maudlinism) that had me fully invested in the characters and their story. There is also an adorable dog Teddy who has more than a minor role.

If I hadn’t used my keen (though imperfect) reasoning to choose this book, I probably wouldn’t have ever read it. As it is, I now have another wonderful author on my list who has 8 more books I can check out. I call this whole experience a big win for me. And it can be for you too—I highly recommended for those looking for a nice absorbing book to read in front of the fireplace this winter. Thanks, Faith!

This book is almost unputdownable even though I skimmed few inner-monolog-heavy bits.
Read it if you always wished for THE 'cheating-and-then-comes-the-comeuppance' book.
A real fairytale of wishful thinking!
Still, a hugely enjoyed it 4*.

I don't read a whole lot of chick lit but when I do, I'm looking for a little emotional gratification. Luckily, What Happened to Us? gave me a healthy dose of a woman scorned, keeping it classy and ending up with her own happy ending. The fact her ex gets exactly what's coming to him is just a happy bonus.

I liked our heroine and was hooked on the story until the end. Her partner gets involved with a Colombian waitress at their restaurant and falls madly in love. He doesn't think about the personal and commercial consequences of dumping our heroine.
He's the head chef and she's the brains behind it all.
We gradually see how involved he is with his Latina lover and the need for affirmation he feels, as he wants to rub it in everyone's faces that he has exchanged a supposedly unattractive partner for a Latin bombshell.
But reality is not always what you expect and a chain of events comes like an avalanche in the calm and quiet life of the cheater.
Our heroine rose and shone through adversity. It was beautiful to see her getting back on her feet while his life was falling apart. Well done!
The ending was sweet and our heroine got what she was looking for.

Her thoughts darted back to the kitchen behind her, Kevin, bloody Kevin. Well, she hadn’t seen that coming had she. She was still reeling, angry, upset and, yes, she could admit it to herself, broken-hearted. And Valentina? Kevin was in love with Valentina, he’d told her, so it must be true.

Kevin might have been the talent, he might have been the toast of the Dublin foodie scene, but she was the brains behind the operation.

She’d hired Valentina because she came with good references. Of course, she was a stunner, everything about her was glossy, as if she had been dipped in polish; inky black hair, a wide vermillion smile and impossibly white teeth.

Of course, she must have known, after all these years, Kevin would never get around to asking. If they were to marry, it would be down to Carrie to organise it – and, of course, she never had.

True, you have talent, but let’s face it, Carrie is the brains behind the operation.’ ‘Hold on, Jim. It’s my food people come for.’

It was a mess. It was a right bloody mess, but he had no choice. He and Carrie were finished. He was in love with Valentina now and there was no going back. Not even for The Sea Pear.

Carrie the frumpy restauranteur, Kevin her weasel of a husband, Valentina his gold digging mistress, Luke the world wandering hunky professor, and Teddy the dog who plays matchmaker.

I loved this book!

It's low key so not too angsty but you still feel how sad Carrie is and in the end I even felt kinda sorry for Kevin (just 'kinda' though). The story felt as though everyone was being pushed around with a bit of magic but there's no magic, just some eye rolling coincidences. Even though the number of coincidences is silly, it felt kinda magical and wasn't too predictable.

The story starts with Kevin being dragged by Valentina to tell Carrie about their affair and that they are in love. Kevin and Carrie are in their late 30's and Valentina is a beautiful shark in her early 20's. Then Carrie meets Teddy the cute stray dog who needs a home.

I loved Carrie's character and enjoyed reading about her finding her joy of life again. Her happiness wasn't contingent on the new man, but she so deserved to meet a man like Luke!

Kevin gets his comeuppance, after coming to realize what an ass he's been throughout their relationship. Valentina gets her just desserts!

This looked interesting so I got it on my Kindle this past weekend. I think I may read more Faith Hogan in the future. She can definitely write and plot a story. I just think that adding two of the POVs did nothing for the book and actually caused it to drag. I started skipping over those POVs toward the end of the book since the POVs with Carrie and Kevin were more interesting to me.

"What Happened to Us?" is about Carrie Nolan and her long term boyfriend Kevin Mulvey. They run a highly successful restaurant together and though the romance has cooled in their relationship, Carrie is happy with how things are for the most part. Then Kevin comes to her one day and tells her he has fallen in love with a waitress at their restaurant (Valentina). When Carrie realizes that her life is not going to be the same, she is determined to move on from Kevin. And Kevin slowly starts to realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

What can I say, I actually felt more for Kevin while reading this. Do not yell at me people! I felt sorry for him because he's a big fool. This character reminded me of the character in Sliding Doors who is torn between Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeanne Tripplehorn. Heck, Kevin even has a best friend (Jim) who pretty much laughs at him for being such an idiot to give up Carrie for Valentina. Kevin slowly wakes up to what his relationship with Valentina was like and how similar his life is heading like his father.

Carrie at least acknowledges the things that she did wrong while dating Kevin. They both let the romance die in their relationship and she always took care of everything. Her realizing that she could be stronger without him and determined to keep their little house was great.

I have to say though I don't know how realistic it was that Kevin and Carrie kept working together for as long as they do in this book. I would have probably set some stuff on fire.

The other characters in this book, Jane and Luke were pretty blah to me.

As I already said, I liked the writing and the overall plot. The story just dragged every single time that Hogan moved away from Carrie and Kevin to Jane and Luke. No offense, but Jane and Luke added nothing to the book. We could have gotten Carrie's impressions of Luke and left it at that. Considering that Carried had family and friends surrounding her I was more interested in that then in how Luke felt about his father or Jane felt about being alone. The flow wasn't great anytime it shifted away from Carrie and Kevin either.

The ending was nice and I did love we got to see resolutions for all of the plot points.

Three and a half stars.
This is one of those books that you get comfortable, snuggle up in a blanket and read on a cold night. All characters are likeable apart from the "beautiful Valentina and her cousins".
Not my favourite Faith Hogan book but worth a read.

This is a wonderful Autumnal story about friendship, family and love. I’m ashamed to say this is my first ever Faith Hogan book and oh my I am sure I have missed out on some great reads.

The story follows Carrie who has just been dumped by Kevin (we hate him by the way…!) not only has she been dumped without a second thought but Kevin leaves her for a younger woman, here we meet Valentina a Columbian waitress who works at the restaurant Carrie and Kevin co own in Dublin. Awks!

First off, all of the characters are so well written, I liked them all apart from a few who I really disliked and after reading the synopsis I am sure you will know who I am talking about… ‘cough Kevin cough!!’ Of course my favourite was Carrie who by the way is the most nicest character I have ever met in a book. I really did feel sorry for Carrie when Kevin paraded his new romance in her face and she still had to work with him, how she kept her calm throughout the breakup of their relationship and still kept it business as usual at the restaurant I do not know! I salute you Carrie Nolan!

With Christmas soon approaching Carrie turns to some new friends for support. Jane who owns the pub across the road from the restaurant and also Luke who she happened to meet only by chance one evening. Oh and Teddy, cannot forget to mention Teddy a gorgeous dog who Carrie finds on the street and becomes Carrie’s confidant and shadow.

Both Jane and Luke have their own troubles which Faith touches on throughout the story. Luke a Historian back in town visiting his dad who has just moved into a nursing home and Jane, elderly and living alone in the pub she shared with her husband who has past; she finds herself feeling vulnerable, sad and very lonely. Thankfully both Carrie and Luke rally round to help fill the void for Jane and bring life back to the pub while learning some surprising secrets along the way.

I think the three of them came together at such a great time and were huge supports for each other, I really liked reading the scenes where the three of them were together.

Stopping briefly back to Kevin, Faith wrote his character perfectly. He came across as a very weak, pathetic man who actually relied on Carrie more than you first thought. Both characters Kevin and Valentina were portrayed so well that you have this dislike for them while reading which shows how well written they are. I won’t spoil the story for you but I love that Carrie stands up for herself and doesn’t let them run her out of her life and if anything gives her the opportunity to find the time to do all the things she loves in life, one of which is investing more time in her blog. (Love a blog!)

Ok so the story is a little predictable in parts but I never mind that in a book, a thoroughly enjoyable story from start to finish a book I would recommend to friends and family best read indoors on the sofa in happy clothes under a blanket with a big mug of tea and a constant flow of biscuits! Brilliant!

Faith Hogan crafts lovely stories with characters who need a second chance. I love that she takes unlikely relationships, between different generations, and injects friendship and romance into otherwise lonely lives.

I always seem to fall in love with her characters and end up seeing and feeling everything through their eyes.

They are classic comfort, feel-good reads and I come away feeling just a little bit happier and more hopeful for the world we live in.

The bottom line: if you want an emotional plot line and engaging characters to root for then this is a book to dive in to.

Recommended to fans of Cathy Kelly, Sheila O’Flanagan and Patricia Scanlan.

I really liked this one. Surprisingly, not really as a romance, but i liked the growth of the heroine, the friends and deeper relationships she made with her neighbors and her own eventual true Hero.

I especially liked the little dog she adopted who really turned out to be her anchor in a storm. 🐶❤️

Best of all, as another reviewer points out is the awesome karma the cheating ex receives and the epic comeuppance of the OW!

This book is all about new beginnings and finding the positives in every situation.

Carrie is heartbroken when her boyfriend of 10 years Kevin dumps her for a Brazilian waitress from the restaurant they both run together.

They’ve shared each other’s lives, dreams, families and friends for so long Carrie can’t imagine her life without him.

Distance and reflection slowly changes Carrie’s perspective and she begins to realise that she has been sacrificing her own happiness to pander to Kevin’s needs for a long time.

Kevin begins to realise how much he misses Carrie and all the things she did for him which went unnoticed. His new girlfriend is high maintenance and prone to temper tantrums and he begins to miss the comfortable life he once had.

With Christmas coming up and Carries new friends playing a bigger part in her life decisions are going to have to be made!! But are new beginnings the way forward ? Can happiness emerge from heartbreak? And is the grass ever greener on the other side??

This book is best read under a blanket with a cup of tea!! Beautiful writing by Faith Hogan my first of hers won’t be my last .

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for my chance to read this fantastic book.

The perfect autumnal read - on a rainy & windy few days, I curled up under a blanket snuggling my dog and reading this compelling novel.

We meet main characters Carrie and Kevin with supporting cast of Jane, Valentina, Luke and my favourite Teddy. Carrie and Kevin are long-term partners, both in life and business until Kevin declares to Carrie one day that he is in love with their restaurant waitress, the fiery Valentina, and walks away from his relationship with Carrie.

I thought Carrie dealt with the relationship breakdown very stoically and couldn't help but sympathise with her situation. It must be so difficult to have to see not only your ex, but also his new love practically flaunting herself in front of Carrie daily when she went to work. Kevin was certainly not a pleasant character - he was basically weak - but I *almost* felt sorry for him however his stupidity didn't appeal and ultimately he did not deserve Carrie's kindness or humility!

Of course this book wouldn't be the same without Carrie making some new friends along the way - whilst I have already declared Teddy (a dog she finds on the street who simply worships her) my favourite, a close second has to be Jane who is an elderly neighbour looking out for the best for Carrie and she just warmed my heart. Her tale was so solemn and I was delighted she also found a good friend in Carrie - they needed each other.

With Christmas just around the corner Carrie has to contend with Kevin, Valentina and then some mysterious goings on occur at the restaurant and local area. With all this going on can Carrie ever find true love - Luke (who apoears to have a heart of gold) turns up at just the right time when Carrie needs friends around her, but can her broken heart repair for another man?

Honestly I simply adored this book, at times melancholy but overall so touching how Carrie, Jane and Luke formed friendships, looked after one another and how their lives intertwined. I absolutely recommend this book!

My thanks to Aria and NetGalley for providing me with this advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

this is a perfect light, fluffy read and i enjoyed it very much. the story follows carrie nolan, who has just been dumped by her boyfriend of over 10 years, kevin. the worst part is he left her for valentina, a much younger colombian waitress at the restaurant that they co-own. after the breakup, carrie finds solace in talking to jane, an old lady who lives across the road from the restaurant, and luke, who they both “happen” to meet. it’s all very cute so if that’s not your thing, you probably won’t enjoy it.

i hated kevin so much omg. he was the actual worst. a lot of my issues with the book come for kevin’s existence, and the stereotype that all immigrants are evil and criminals. he was essentially a man child, who was horrible to everyone around him, and honestly there was too much of this book from his point of view. it got to the point where his “evilness” was just comical and made me wonder why the actual fuck carrie was even with him for so long. his character development felt very forced, but it wasn’t terrible.

i liked carrie but thought she was a little too perfect towards the end, and again, i didn’t really understand why she put up with kevin for so long. valentina was interesting but i didn’t like how some parts of her character were written - it just felt ignorant and rude. jane was interesting and very cute, and i loved anna and carrie’s other friends. there was a lot of amazing female friendships and relationships among families that made this book amazing.

the plot was pretty standard, i did guess how everything would turn out, but that didn’t take away the enjoyment of reading. in fact whenever i guessed how something would end up, there would be a new subplot introduced so i could try and figure out how that would affect the story.

all in all, it was a cute story and the perfect fluffy read! i recommend it if you are in the mood for chick lit.

A wonderfully warm and beautifully woven tale which drew me in and left me sighing in bliss...

Carrie Nolan and Kevin Mulvey have lived together for more than ten years; they also run a very successful business together. When Kevin falls in love with another, Carrie is shocked and heartbroken - but will she continue to be his girl Friday?

I had high expectations for this novel, having read the author's previous books, but even then it far exceeded anything I could imagine. There are very few readers who could fail to find a character to empathise with, whilst having others to narrow their eyes at! Gorgeous - every single word; the cover just couldn't be any better AND there's a dog, which everyone knows is one of my favourites in any novel! I don't think I've ever read a book which has been so flawlessly created, and I suspect this is one which will find it's way onto my Christmas reading list for many years to come. A magical story and - dare I say - utter perfection!

Hitting all the right chords, this has left me with that warm fuzzy feeling as I look towards the festive season. From the very beginning I was reminded of the late Maeve Binchy's warm and empathetic writing as well as her skill at entwining several story lines into one huge delightful read. This book, while completely original, is the nearest I have come finding an author to fill her shoes - and those are huge shoes to fill! I really cannot recommend this highly enough - five stars are completely insufficient so five sparkly, golden, shining, dancing ones it shall have to be!

I listened to this as an audiobook. I did need to slow down the narration as on my usual setting the speaking was too fast but I really did fall in love with the Irish accent! (Well done to narrator Clare McKenna).
Set in Dublin, this a story about relationships, love, infidelity, loss and starting again.
It is a warm and ultimately uplifting novel about coming to terms with the end of a partnership but becoming stronger, brighter, and more confident as a result, with the emergence of a new romantic relationship by the end.
I loved the descriptions of Finch Street, The Marchant Inn and the Sea Pear restaurant. (Please excuse any incorrect spellings. Without the written words I can only go by what I hear!) I particularly enjoyed Carrie believing in herself more, trying new things and discovering how capable, attractive and in demand she is for her talents. She is a woman that has been neglected for far too long by long term partner Kevin Mulvey who is the chef at The Sea Pear. Carrie is front of house and in charge of making it the success it is, through her creativity and sheer hard work.
However. Kevin fails to see Carrie the way the rest of their friendship group does and falls very heavily for Colombian waitress Valentina.
The story captured the mid life crisis perfectly, charting the downfall of such a disastrous liaison, which doesn't only destroy Kevin and Carrie's relationship but an awful lot else besides.
It is an engrossing tale full of great dialogue with events linked in a sound plot and a cast of extremely well drawn characters. I could see, smell and touch the scenes and people that Faith Hogan has written about and was so pleased how Jane Marchant was cared for and how Liam became such an important part of the story. There is even a stray dog, Teddy, who is given a home to add to the overall caring nature of a book about family, friends and what is important in life.
There is a perfect blend of sadness, joy and shock that makes What Happened to Us? an immensely enjoyable read, perfect for curling up at this time of year with a blanket and your favourite hot drink.
I don't think I have read a Faith Hogan novel before but I am definitely going to look up what else she has written in the hope that I can lose myself once again in a story she has told.

The Blurb :
After ten years together, Carrie Nolan is devastated when she's dumped by her hot-shot chef boyfriend, Kevin Mulvey without even a backwards glance! But on reflection, she has sacrificed her own long-term happiness by pandering to his excessive ego in their successful Dublin restaurant (and out of it) – but not anymore!
While Kevin is 'living the dream' with his beautiful new Brazilian girlfriend, Carrie seeks solace from a circle of mismatched strangers who need her as much as she needs them.
With Christmas just around the corner, all is not quite as it seems and a catastrophic sequence of events leads to the unthinkable.

My Thoughts :
Here we meet couple Carrie Nolan and Kevin Mulvey, both owners of The Sea Pear restaurant and together for many years. Carrie is devastated when she finds out that Kevin has started an affair with their Brazilian waitress Valentina. Kevin and Valentina move in together whille Carrie stays in the house and continues to work at the restaurant. But has Kevin bitten off more than he can chew and is the grass any greener!?.
As Carrie learns to move on, we tackle grief, loss, being alone, emotions and starting over.
I really enjoyed the charactors and storyline, this is a lovely Christmas read. Faith Hogan held my interest throughout and I loved that there was other things going on aswell. Looking to more from this Author.

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.

Carrie is in a personal and business relationship with Kevin when he delivers the shocking news that he is leaving her for Valentina the much younger Colombian waitress in their restaurant. Carrie iss devastated but has to swallow her pride and continue to work with them.

She becomes firm friends with Jane the old lady across the road who runs a pub albeit with very limited opening times and very few customers.

Carrie and the secondary list of characters are wonderful and I loved the relationship between the different generations.

Kevin was someone I loved to hate, a grumpy selfish spoiled man-child but oh how I loved his friend Jim. Their conversations and his obvious disdain for Kevin and his choices made me laugh.

Valentina and her fellow Colombian immigrants were a tad stereotypical hence the deduction of a star.

Altogether a lovely story of friendship and love.

“What happened to us?” By Faith Hogan was a delight to read. I was drawn in from the first page and it was so difficult to put down.....I love that in a book 📖

🌟PLOT🌟 Carrie’s life changes drastically, after boyfriend of 10 years, dumps her in the most unthinkable way. She feels like everything she worked for is pulled out from under her feet, but after reflection this might not have been such a shock to her, and she starts to enjoy putting herself first.

Cue an unlikely friendship with the elderly lady from across the street and the new man in town, and soon secrets from the past begin to unravel in a most wonderful way, and they all move into a future that is brighter for them all.

The ending was lovely, and gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, and obviously I cried.

🌟review🌟 a wonderful Christmassy read, even if it is only August. I loved how the story and plot unraveled so easily and the flow throughout the book made it so hard to put down. The description of each character was brilliant, and I fell in love with most characters, while hating others.
“What happened to us?” Is an absolutely wonderful book that is so full of hope, and shows that even after years of being lonely, or lost, that eventually you can find your happy ending! A resounding ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me

I really enjoyed this read. It has friendship, betrayal and some romance in it. It is about how a woman picks herself up after being betrayed and how she puts her life back together again and moves on. I also liked how the heroine was not in her 20's. I want to read more from this author.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This book follows Carrie, who is devastated by her partner, in both love and business, Kevin leaving her for their beautiful Colombian waitress Valentina. As Carrie takes the time to heal, she can see that she has always put the needs of their successful restaurant, and Kevin (and his mother), before considering her own.

As she rebuilds her life, she finds new friends to help her. Jane, a widow struggling to run the pub across the road from Carrie's restaurant, Teddy, an adorable dog who has chosen Carrie to be his, and Luke, a historian who has temporarily stopped drifting to settle his father into a local nursing home.

With Christmas approaching, a catastrophic series of events culminate in Carrie reaching an understanding of the meaning of true friendship, and considering whether it is ever too late to start again.

It is not often that characters resonate with me in the way that these did. Carrie is far stronger than she ever really believed she was, Jane has a strength that belies her fragility, and Teddy, the dog who came into Carrie's life at a time that she thought her life was falling apart, is a far better judge of character than Kevin ever will be!

I could not put this down, it is the perfect autumnal/winter read.
