Yowzers!

Like feeling the sharp sting of a taut rubber band aimed at your sensitive skin.....again and again and again.

Ya know that Matthew Farrell doesn't believe in carousel rides. I Know Everything will be heavy on the psychosis sauce. But who exactly is serving it up and who exactly is partaking with spoon at the ready?

Dr. Randall Brock has been partnered with Dr. Peter Reems since their early days at NYU. Both are successful psychologists in the psychiatry department at Quarim University Hospital. They have been working on a 5 year grant involving curing psychopathic behavior with patients talking through violent fantasies. They both believe that they are on the very brink of groundbreaking success.

But a tragic car accident involving Randall's wife, Amanda, will put all of that on hold. Amanda had been the head of a non-profit organization called Glass Hearts. She was being honored for her selfless dedication on the night of the accident. The news of her death nearly destroys Randall.

Within days, Randall is visited by New York State police investigators, Susan Adler and Tommy Corolla. The evidence found at the scene now points to murder. With the tune playing on the jukebox that it's always the husband, Randall feels the heat. He knows that he didn't murder his wife. He was at the university hospital that night. The police don't believe him and the squeeze is on. But Randall is being visited by someone who claims to know Amanda's secrets and just who may have done the dastardly deed.

I Know Everything walks around inside the heads of these main characters.....and that's no jaunt in the park. Some of them are truthful and some are not quite what they claim to be. It's not necessary to have read Farrell's first novel. (What Have You Done? from 2018) But there's a clever little connection on the final page of this one. Clever, creative, and seeped in much woowoo, I Know Everything will certainly grab your attention.

I received a copy of this novel through NetGalley for an honest review. My thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to Matthew Farrell for the opportunity.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free, electronic ARC of this novel received in exchange for an honest review.

Late one night, Amanda Brock’s car goes off the road, in what is initially assumed to be a tragic accident. However, when Inspector Susan Adler and her partner, Tommy, look further, they make the decision that Amanda was murdered before going off the road and that they are now looking at a murder investigation. Of course, the first suspect is her husband, local psychologist Dr. Randall Brock. Randall knows he didn’t kill his wife but the evidence is mounting against him. Until the night he is visited by a stranger in a dark hood named Sam, a stranger who tells him that he knows who killed Amanda and will help him clear his name- if Randall can reveal the secrets he has kept inside for years.

“I Know Everything” is not the first novel by author Matthew Farrell, but I can honestly say that this is the first time I have ever heard his name. A mistake I will NOT make again.

“Everything” starts off hot right from the get go, pulling a reader into the mind of several psychopaths that appear to be involved in a new treatment by Randall and his team. Right off the hop, the “psychological” in “psychological thriller” is evident, and it pulled me in immediately.

None of the characters are what they seem in this novel, and although I was able to actually predict the main twist (any avid readers of psychological thrillers, like myself, will be able to recognize the subtle clues), this did not prevent my enjoyment of the story.

The plot is developed well, the characters are likable yet suspicious and the story has all of the twists and turns that you would expect from a psychological thriller. “I Know Everything” has a few added “psycho” plot additions, which did nothing but increase the entertainment value of this novel.

I have not read a novel in this genre in a long time that has been so twisted, so dysfunctional and so very enjoyable. This novel won’t be for everyone, but it checked every box for me, and I cannot wait for Mr. Farrell’s next work; he has a tough act to follow!

This is my second book by Matthew Farrell and once again, I was not disappointed. Shrewdly written, suspenseful and fully engaging crime mystery novel that kept me guessing till the final pages. I am looking forward to reading more books from Mr. Farrell very soon.

Thank you NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer publisher, and the author for giving me an opportunity to read an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I HATED how this book turned out! I only gave it 2 stars because most of the book was great until u get to around 80% and you find out what was really going on. I have said this many times before and I will say it again-come up with new and original reasoning behind a murderer and for the ending. This type of explanation(I won't go into detail because I do not want to ruin it for future readers) has been done in countless other novels and it just played out!
Yes the book was great up until that 75-80% mark. You have no idea who the killer could be and you are left guessing and accusing everyone as the twist and turns pile up. The characters were just OK but the writing was good. There was a great story to be told and the plot definitely has potential but I can not get passed the direction Farrell chose to take with the main character, killer and the overall story.

Overall yes it will keep you glued to the pages and if you are not consistently reading psychology thrillers/thrillers then this book would be very enjoyable but if you read these types of books all the time you probably will understand where I am coming from.

Please remember this is just my opinion and i know i am in the minority here so don't get mad at me!!!

I love books like this one. A lot of unknowns, turns and surprises. Fast past thriller with good detective work and people with some mental disorders. Susan Adler and Randall Brock are likable characters. I couldn’t put this book down until I knew who killed who.

Woah!

This book was a crazy ride. I was absolutely hooked from the get-go and can honestly say I could never have predicted this ending.

I Know Everything follows the mysterious murder of a woman and the police officers who investigate her case. As the husband looks more and more likely to be the prime suspect, his side of the story will definitely having you second guessing.

The beauty of this book is the psychological aspect behind the story. A side story looks at psychiatrists who are working with violent criminals and trying to find a way to cure them of their vicious fantasies and get them back into society. It keeps things interesting and adds a deeper element to the story.

Nothing in this book is as it seems. A true page turning thriller that will keep you shocked until the very end. I can't wait to read more by Matthew Farrell.

This was such an interesting and intriguing thriller!! I was hooked from the very first page! I think the storyline was so interesting, and it really had so many twists and turns. There were so many times in this book where I thought I had it all figured out and then another twist would happen. This was definitely a very gripping psychological thriller that really makes you think!

I also really liked the connection made in the epilogue of this book to another book by this author. Even though I haven’t yet read that book I thought it was a clever connection to make!

4.5 stars rounded up to 5!

This book takes off from the first page and keeps a quick, suspenseful, and nail-biting pace throughout the whole novel! I really loved all the twists and turns in this psychological thriller, and the characters were all unique as well which made for an enjoyable read. I thought I had it completely figured out and then BAM another unpredictable twist. “I Know Everything” was the perfect dark and thrilling book to end my year with! This is my first book by Matthew Farrell but it will not be my last.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway, and that is a good thing. I am giving this 3 stars rounded up from 2.5 as I did finish it and it was not a bad read. It is full of red herrings (that I guessed most of the time) and dependence on mental illness as a plot device. The writing was just OK, the characterizations were rather flat, and the plot line attempted some trickiness that did not resonate with me. Most of the reviews are very good, so perhaps it was just not for me.

4.5 stars.

There were some typos, a sudden name spelling change, and a character was referred to by the victim's name. All stuff that usually drives me really crazy, but I really liked the story. But this is also why I gave it 4.5 instead of 5 stars because it's still a big deal.

The book starts off with two coworkers who are trying to reduce violence in offenders and that piqued my interest quickly. Then one of the coworkers goes to support his wife at a charity event, ends up leaving early and the next call he receives is about IDing his wife, who has driven over a cliff and died instantly.

This book is the perfect amount of police procedural and thriller. I read it in two days and was equal parts surprised by the ending, but I also guessed one part of it, maybe not guessed it, but knew a character was involved.

Overall, it was a good, quick read and I immediately put Farrell's first book on hold at my library.

TRIGGER WARNING: ABUSE AND BRUTAL TORTURE FANTASIES! -

If you know me, you know that I used to be a reader that loathed the detailed and drawn out police procedurals but lately I’ve been getting more and more into them and I Know Everything really hit it out of the park for me! This book centers around our main character, Randall Brock, a psychologist known for treating patients with brutal and torturous fantasies. I really liked this aspect of the book because I haven’t read a book with such triggering but informative insight into the minds of those unlike us.

I really loved getting to know our main characters in this book. For the most part, you learned quite a lot about their home life and personalities which is something that I normally get turned off by in certain books but for this book, it was the perfect amount. You get a little bit of everything! I would stray from this book if you have a weak stomach because some parts can definitely be sickening and hard to read. I Know Everything is a gut-wrenching crime fiction novel full of twists and turns on every page that will be sure to keep you on your toes from beginning to end. This book needs to be on your fall TBR without a doubt!

Oh my, this was such a marvellous, quality read!

I Know Everything by new-to-me author Matthew Farrell certainly grabbed my attention. It's not necessary to have read Farrell's first novel. (What Have You Done? published in 2018) to fully enjoy this one. I was thrown in from the get-go and I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough on my kindle to read more.

With great characterisation, the pacing was good throughout and there was no superfluous padding to distract.
This was a well written, researched and crafted thriller that had me reading well into the night.

The beauty of this book and the clincher for me was the psychological aspect behind the story. It kept things interesting and added a deeper element to the story. Clever, creative, and thoroughly enjoyable, I Know Everything is well worth a read!

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from Thomas & Mercer via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Police Investigator Susan Adler is ready to close the book on a deadly car accident, but after the medical examiner discovers evidence of foul play, she knows she has a murder on her hands. The victim was the wealthy wife of Randall Brock, a psychologist working on an experimental treatment with his friend and colleague Dr. Peter Reems. They treat patients with disturbing, brutal fantasies. And just like that, Susan’s got a suspect.

Randall has a violent past but knows he didn’t kill his wife. In the midst of his grief, Randall receives a visit from a stranger with information to share about his wife’s death. But there’s a catch: in exchange for the stranger’s information, Randall must reveal dark secrets he’s kept hidden for years. As this hooded figure applies more pressure, Randall begins to doubt himself, clinging desperately to the pieces of his sanity.

**Spoilers Ahead**

For me, there were too many errors and plot holes. First, the author called Susan Amanda once. Another time she called her "he." I hate how Susan was so willing to overlook EVERY clue that pointed to her partner, Tommy. She gets hit by a car at one point. Later she says she knows it was Tommy's father because of the ring on his finger. Why did it take her so long to admit it? I also hated how much information Tommy was able to uncover on Randall because "he called in favors." He was in his 20s, how many favors could he really have to call in with law enforcement? I also hated how Susan described how Randall was holding her daughter with a knife pinned behind her daughter's back. How did she see it if it was behind her back? Another problem I had was when Susan talks about Tommy tracking in the mud at the hospital. How the heck was he STILL tracking mud by the time he got to her mother's hospital room?!

Then there's the epilogue... The author wrote Susan talking about things as if at least six months had passed, but it's only been two months since the case was closed.

This book had so much potential. I just hate that there were so many parts of it for me to pick apart. I've only listed a few. I wouldn't recommend the book to anyone.

3.5 This book is fast and twisty! It’s been a while since I’ve read a psychological thriller so I enjoyed when certain events took me off-guard. Randall is an unreliable narrator and keeps his secrets close, which unfortunately makes him kind of a blank page. The other main character is Investigator Susan Adler and while her portrayal is nothing special, I liked her enough to root for her.

I’m not too sure about the medical aspects of the book and the way mental illness is discussed but I can’t say more without spoiling. What I didn’t like was the scenes of tortures and deaths of women shown so we feel sorry for the men in their lives. It just feels tiring at this point. Also the book ends with a reference to the author’s previous book which got me confused as I haven’t read it before. I think if readers are willing to overlook the science and just go for the ride it makes for an engrossing read.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a review copy!

5 STARS.

WOW I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did 😱 I didn’t really know much about this book going in to it, but I am so glad that I read it because it is definitely a new favorite of mine 😍 ⁣

My favorite part about this book was that it was a perfect blend of thriller and procedural. Procedurals can sometimes feel drawn out, but this one had elements of both procedural and thriller so it was extremely fast-paced. I was seriously hooked right from the beginning and it never once lost my attention. I found this book to be so intriguing because it constantly kept me guessing and there was never an obvious idea of where the story was going to go. ⁣

I absolutely LOVED the author’s writing style and thought this book was so incredibly well-written. I really enjoyed that even though this is a thriller, we still get to know the main characters and read a little bit about their home life. I was super invested in both the characters and the story and I couldn’t wait to figure out how it was all going to come together. I always have trouble being surprised by endings, but the ending to this book was everything I hoped it would be 🙌🏼 I had a slight hunch for what might happen, but that didn’t affect my reading experience at all since the ending is so complex that I could have never guessed it in its entirety. ⁣

TRIGGERS: Rape (non-graphic but it is mentioned)⁣

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this one to you guys! This was such a fantastic book that had both thriller and procedural aspects to it and I truly loved it. If you haven’t already, you guys need to add this to your TBR and read it ASAP 👏🏼⁣

This book exceeded my expectations in every way, and I LOVED every second of it. Matthew Farrell did an amazing job of writing an intricate web of moments that came together to create the perfect story. From the very first page I was immediately drawn in and couldn’t put it down. This story started off with psychological research and a benefit dinner, and quickly moved on to murder.

The main character Randall was likable and you could really feel that his life was being turned upside down. I also liked the state police officer, Susan, and how the author contrasted scenes of her personal life at home with her job hunting down killers. There wasn’t a dull moment in this book and truly nothing in this book is what you think.

I loved the psychological aspects of this book and the idea of people working to rehabilitate violent offenders. This book had the perfect balance of psychological thriller and police procedure. The author’s writing style was really easy to read and enjoyable to unpack. I loved the ending and even though I sort of saw it coming, it was pure enjoyment from start to finish. I can’t wait to read his next book! 5-stars from me!

This was fantastic! Kept me turning the pages because I got so engrossed in the story. I loved the lead character. Susan and her two children lived together and her mom usually took care of them. Susan is a detective and she's just been assigned a new partner, Tommy. They are called out to the scene of what appears to be a car accident. Wealthy Amanda Brock is the victim. Returning home after a a fundraiser for a charity she supports, her car goes off the road and down a cliff. Upon investigation, however, it becomes evident Amanda's death was intentional. Of course the first person they suspect is her husband, Randall. He stands to inherit millions of dollars upon her passing and it's evident he's keeping secrets from them.

This was full of mystery and suspense. Who wanted Amanda dead? What was their motive? It appeared she was loved by everyone who knew her so why did someone maliciously run her off the road? And can Randall Brock prove his innocence? Amanda was the love of his life. Why would he want to hurt her?

Definitely recommend this one. Found a new author to add to my list of favorites.

This book was fantastic. Thrilling, creepy, confusing and scary.

Initially, I wanted to quit this book early, maybe at the first 20 pages. I wasn't into the opening. It didn't grab me, and I couldn't get hooked on any of the characters. After the author presented the mystery to the readers, however, I was all in.

The storyline is intriguing. What is Randall's past? He's hiding something, and his late-wife may have discovered it. Was she killed because of Randall's past, or was it something she did on her own? And who is this new investigator? He came out of nowhere, yes?

I loved the investigators. Susan's a divorced homicide investigator, trying to raise twins and hell all at the same. Tommy is the newbie, just happy to be on this case. They work together well, and I love when Susan tells her new partner that it isn't like the movies. I couldn't wait for them to unravel the mystery together.

All of the psychological aspects in this book really held my attention. This is the plot of some of my favorite movies. Can prior trauma bring out the true evil in a person? Do we ever really bury our pasts? I loved it.

One thing that really bothered me, however, is when Randall wants to unlock Amanda's phone. First, he thinks to himself that it would be convenient if someone would call her phone so that he could just answer the call and unlock the phone. Because nobody calls, he resorts to a ridiculous measure to unlock the phone. Why didn't he just call it himself and then answer it? I'm stunned that the author and the editors overlooked such a detail.

This is the second book in the series, but I use the word series lightly. The light thread that joins one with the other is only apparent in the very end, which makes this almost a standalone-almost.

It was a very satisfying thriller. I have had a hard time enjoying popular thrillers of late because of some reason or another. This one checked quite a few of the right boxes. The prologue is vague and hints at a horrific scene which is only described almost halfway through the narrative. There is an unexpected accident on a winding road which looks more suspicious on closer examination. Susan Adler is the lead investigator on the case. She has the respect of her team, subordinates and her family, but she is juggling a lot of things, and this case is making her mind jumpy. There are a lot of twists, small ones but strong enough to add to the ambience and the story itself. It can even make you second guess your biases as the tale progresses. The mind games and the actual evil wrapped within the tale were also complicated.

I do not want to talk of any characters or the storyline lest my words provide spoilers to the discerning eye. I recommend this book and to get a kick out of the last chapter, maybe check the first book out as well.

I received an ARC via NetGalley and the publishers, but I ended up using my KU membership to listen to the book instead.

I read Mathew Farrell’s first book and found it thrilling and enjoyable. When I learned his second book had been released, I thought, “I need to pick it up.” Had I known this was going to be one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read this year, I would have been standing in line at the bookstore on release day. To my thriller friends - read this book! This story follows the lives of Randell, a doctor of Psychiatry, who is mourning the sudden loss of his wife Amanda, killed in a tragic car accident. Investigating the accident is Susan, a well-respected and sharp as a whip investigator, who immediately recognizes this is not a simple car accident. Switching between the lives of Susan and Randell, the story quickly spirals into a multifaceted thriller. This wasn’t necessarily a “I didn’t see that coming” kind of book, just a well scripted page-turning investigation steeped in clues and psychosis. Mathew has an amazing way of describing a scene. I noticed that in the first book and I think he did an even better job in this second release. I highly recommend this book and when you’re done, let’s chat about it!!

Susan Adler is a New York State investigator and she starts by investigating a fatal car accident. Susan is juggling being a single mom and solving her case. She's also just got a new partner to train. This case isn't making sense even after it's determined to be a homicide.

Loved this book. It was a good play on psychological mysteries. The detective in this book is really good, but initially was fooled. In the end nothing gets by her. I do not want to tell you anything that might clue you into how the story ends, so I won't say anymore. It just a good read.
