Two shaped board books from Petr Horcek are now available in dual Spanish-English editions -- perfect for little ones who love things that go.
When a family piles into a bright yellow car to drive to Grandma's house, they go broom, broom through the town, vroom, vroom along the highway, and chug, chug over the crosswalk. Getting there is almost as exciting as the welcome that awaits at the end -- and bright pictures and playful sound words make this a trip to enjoy.
Petr Horáček is the author-illustrator of Look Out, Suzy Goose and Silly Suzy Goose, as well as Run, Mouse, Run!; Bird, Fly High; A New House for Mouse; and Strawberries Are Red. He lives in England.
This bilingual board book title is in English and Spanish. The simple text and bold colorful illustrations show a family driving to Grandma's house, going through the town, traveling along the highway, driving over the crosswalk, stopping at a red traffic light, and driving down the hill with grandma looking out of a cut out window while she waits for them. Each two page spread shows a scene with appropriate fun sounds and brief text. The highway spread has many cars on a black background but nothing to indicate an actual highway. Several pages are cut around the car which provides an easy way to turn the pages and gives it a 3D effect. Recommended for 6 months to 5 years.
It held my 2 year old's attention span. That's a plus. She enjoyed being able to turn the cut out car that turned into a new scene or looking through the windows in the house. which is another plus. I didn't find it cute enough to give another star or to buy personally but I am glad I checked it out at the library because she enjoyed me reading it.
This board book with lift flaps is perfect for very little babies. Simple short text (mostly sound effects) keep their interest as well as peek-a-boo effect with the flaps. Overall an enjoyable experience for sitting with baby. Be careful not to leave baby alone with this one though because the flaps are easily torn out though it is a board book.
Explores the concepts "to", "through","along", "over", "stop", "down", and "here" accompanied by lots of fun Onomatopoeia or playful sounds such as "broom, broom", "vroom, vroom", "chug, chug", "wheeee", and "beep, beep". You can easily guess how much fun this is to perform together with your child or a story time crowd.
Apparently I'd forgotten to review this book, even though my son has checked it out from the library periodically for at least a year now. He likes it because of the fun cut-out pages. I like it because it's short! My favorite part about reading this book is that he now points to the family in the car and says "That's Mommy, that's Daddy, that's me, and that's You-ee-za!" So cute.
A book about cars with more substance than the average board book. A very simple storyline with cute cut-aways, clever design and a double-page spread containing lots of different cars make this book a winner for car obsessed toddlers.
The cutout pages framing the car and windows allow the reader to move through the "story" which is a neat element. Simple structure reminding me of board book "Spot Goes Splash" which my children loved in early years.
My one-year-old boy loves this! The car makes some unlikely sounds, in my opinion, but the length of the book and combination of noises and brief text has him hooked.
