"That God should be 'for us' will be a remarkable and transforming discovery for those who have grown weary under the whiplash of a theology that drives us to 'do something for God ' I wish that overburdened pastors could read this book before ever preaching another sermon and uninspired Christians could inhale its fragrance before going to church " - Ray S. Anderson Professor of Theology and Ministry, Fuller Theological Seminary "When I picked up "God is for Us" I read it through in one sitting, in an hour. I could not tear myself away from the sheer goodness of the triune God that Baxter Kruger conveys in this short book. But then I had to go back and read it carefully through again, in order to allow the deep truths to penetrate my life afresh. Here is a clearly presented exposition of the profound truth that we are created to be with God forever " - Graham Buxton Senior Lecturer and Head of Ministry, Tabor College, South Australia ""God is for Us" is a must read for those working with damaged people. As flowers open up to the sun, so wounded souls open to the light of God's goodness. Many mentally unwell patients have been transformed by the reality of God's goodness to us in Jesus Christ as laid out in this little book." -Dr. Bruce Wauchope Medical Practioner, Bedford Clinic, Adelaide, Australia C. Baxter Kruger is the Director of Perichoresis, an international ministry sharing the good news of our adoption in Christ with the world. He and his wife Beth have been married for 25 years and have four children. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree under Professor James B. Torrance in Aberdeen, Scotland. Baxter is the author of seven books, including "The Great Dance" and "Across All Worlds," and teaches across the United States, Canada and Australia. He is an avid outdoorsman and holds two United States patents for his fishing lure designs. He is the founder and President of Mediator Lures.
This book is an excellent presentation of the purpose of creation and life. It has three main themes:
1 - Adoption: Expounding on Paul's ideas from Ephesians and Colossians, Baxter discusses God's purpose for creating humanity, which is adopting us into the family of the Trinity. This includes sharing in their life, joy, peace, intimacy and all that good stuff. He does an incredible job of describing that God has been FOR us since before we even came into existence by describing God's plan for the whole thing and how Christ fully accomplished the Father's will.
2 - Incarnation: Baxter goes into the gospel of Jesus Christ and why he became man. There was some good stuff in here, but he honestly lost me a little bit in this section, which is somewhat understandable considering the complexity of the subject matter.
3 - Our Confusion: Even though the section on adoption was great, this was my favorite part of the book. He answers the inevitable question of "If Jesus already did all this stuff, then why don't I experience it?" Boiling it all down, it's basically the profound blindness and deception of our souls which have believed a lie. Holy Spirit was sent to open our eyes and souls to the truth of Jesus Christ and our adoption.
Overall, phenomenal book. Baxter does tend to repeat himself throughout the book, and as I said the incarnation section lost me a little bit, but overall it's well worth the read and paints a very encouraging picture of the Trinity, what they're like, and their commitment to not only you and me but the entire human race.
The author's depth of knowledge and understanding of the Bible and his championing of the concept of the Trinity and man's relationship to each member puts him in the same level of understanding the supernatural aspects of the Trinity. If you want to go deeper into the relationship of the Trinity and how it encompasses and includes all of humanity, then this is a must-read for you.
I'm going to have to reread this because of how dense it is but my first read led to a lot of great spiritual revelations, aha! moments and much clarity.
It's always difficult to accept God's love, no matter how many times I read about it. So I keep reading about it. This is a scholarly explanation, so I'll read it several more times in order to understand it.
Excellent book! I like listenig to Baxter Kruger (audios) more than reading his books but both are excellent. Here he explains Trinitarian theology.
Dr Baxter Kruger, like C.S. Lewis, struggled to make a connection between God and joy; in fact, church life and Christianity appeared to be the very antithesis. That changed forever when he came to the realization that God is a 'dancing' God and the Trinity are eager for us to share in their life of passion and creativity.
Life in God,s economy is so much more than we can grasp or imagine and c. Baxter Kruger has done it again...made it plain for every Christian to see and understand...I recommend it to everyone who wants a deeper experience with God.
Excellent book on incarnational theology and salvation
Excellent book on incarnational theology and salvation. One to be read and read again. Knowing the Father, Son and Holy Spirit should indeed change us and in the ways described in this book.
It is one of the simplest and most beautiful explanations of God's heart--theGospel--and all that Jesus did as God and man. I will be re-reading it many times over!
