Saving Cade

Rate this book
Fleeing from an abusive relationship, Meg takes his precious Mustang and runs. Afraid the police will be after her, the last thing she needs is a wanted man in her car. But when Cade McMillan saves her life and gets hurt, she can’t just leave him by the side of the road, bleeding. And waiting for the cops is out of the question.

Cade McMillan just wants to clear his name, but in order to do that he has to find the man who murdered his girlfriend and set him up. He doesn’t need to get tangled up in a relationship, and definitely doesn’t need to fall in love. But he can’t help feeling drawn to the sassy woman who saved him from getting picked up by the police.
As Cade realizes someone is trying to kill him, he must decide if staying with Meg is worth the danger he’s putting her in.

Saving Cade is a sweet romantic suspense.

I have to begin by saying that I had a copy of this book come through my email and I was in the middle of a couple other review books. But I've learned that once I start a book by Victorine E. Lieske, I can't stop. I get sucked in and don't want to stop. I want to read it all. So I was really trying hard to not open the book until I'd finished the others. Well...I opened it. I just couldn't help it. I thought to myself, ok, I'm just going to peek at the beginning couple pages and see what I'm going to think about this romantic suspense. Ha. Ha ha ha! Hahahahahahahahaha! Yeah right! I should know myself better than that. I was hooked. I finished it fast and then went back to the other couple books I was in the middle of.

This had some suspense in it but it wasn't anything too over the top suspense for those readers who aren't huge suspense fans. There were a couple more intense moments but overall I loved Meg and Cade. Two people from two different backgrounds, but both trying to figure out life and struggling from some of the crazy blows that had been dealt them. Meg cracked me up. She had some great one liners. I had a lot of fun reading the banter between these two and was always watching closely for her little quirky personality to come shining through. Cade, the escaped convict, watch out for him. He might steal your heart while he's trying to right the wrongs dealt him!

If you're looking for a sweet romance with plenty of humor, some suspense, with a dash of music and healing thrown in, definitely pick this one up! Loved it! If you're a fan of this author's other work, I think you'll have fun with this one!

Content: Clean. No language or sex. A couple sweet kisses. Talk about Meg's ex hitting her a couple times but nothing graphic. A couple attacks with a knife and guns. Nothing overly graphic. I'd let my older teenagers read this and I'm pretty picky about what myself and they read.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

This is my first romantic suspense by Victorine Lieske and I didn't want to put it down. I fit this one in between other review books because it's a shorter read, but I started it at 2:30 a.m. which was not a good thing. You'd think I'd know better, but obviously I don't or I'm a slow learner.

I really liked both of the characters--Meg and Cade. Meg is running away from her abusive ex-husband in his prized Mustang (yes she stole his car), filled with her possessions. The person who saves her when she's attacked while getting gas late at night is Cade, who's broken out of prison and is on the run. How ironic is it that he's in prison for supposedly killing his girlfriend but saves Meg? This is the beginning of a 5 day adventure for these two strangers. Meg feels indebted to Cade for saving her and all Cade wants is to be dropped off at the next town so he can contact his brother. He says he didn't kill anyone and intends to clear his name.

I really liked Meg's wit and the banter between her and Cade. Especially the argument in the car over whether or not he had kidnapped her since she was the one driving. "You can be my Uber." I would've laughed out loud but it was 2:30 a.m. and I was in bed with a sleeping husband who gets up at 5 a.m.

This is more a suspense with side of romance, although you can tell there's an attraction between the main characters. The story didn't feel rushed but it ended a little too soon for me. I'd like more books like this from the author. 😊

-‘She slammed the car into gear and pulled out onto the highway. She watched in her rearview mirror as two cop cars pulled into the gas station and stopped. She sighed with relief as she sped down the highway, no one following her. She swallowed and looked at the man who had saved her. “Thanks for getting that creep off me back there.” The man didn’t say anything, and that’s when she noticed it. Her throat went dry as she stared at the small tattoo on his left wrist. A dagger.’-

Trying to escape her abusive ex-husband with a stolen car, Meg jumps from the frying pan into the fire when she picks up a convicted felon while trying to escape an attacker... or does she? Confused yet? Fortunately, the author is much better with words than I am! Read the book. You’ll see! A fun, slightly suspenseful, totally clean romantic story.

This book started like a ghost story you would tell around the fire: a lone woman on a deserted road, a radio report about an escaped convict in the area, and a stranger asking for a ride. I was hooked from the start.

Cade might be an escaped convict, but from the start we see, he is not exactly who or what we think. He is considerate and sweet, but could he still be a murderer? Meg doesn't trust her own judgement, which in this case, is probably a good idea.

I've only read Victorine Lieske's romantic comedies before, but she did a good job in her foray into suspense. I was on the edge of my seat.

Content: clean (mild violence and talk of abuse, some kissing)

I really love books just like this so it's no wonder that I couldn't put this book down. I read it straight through from beginning to end in one sitting and yes, this is a novella, so it's a shorter book, but still. And, speaking of shorter, that's my biggest complaint about this book. It was over way too soon. I wanted MORE. MORE, MORE, MORE.

These characters were well defined and I could so easily picture them and the scenes that were playing out on the pages. It was a fun movie in my head. I loved the added element of suspense and danger that was always in the background lurking until it wasn't! So good.

I would love to see more stories like this from this author. She nailed this one for me and I'm just so excited about it. 😃 I just want the next books to be longer. That's not too much to ask, right?

Content: some violence, peril, kissing

It's perfect! Victorine starts on page 1 putting us in the heroine's shoes. We're right in her world, and in seconds we meet the hero - and she does too. And the sincerity of the romance far outweighs the violence -- and there's very little violence. The romance is deep and sincere. -- the word 'sincere' is important here, because she was a battered wife. Is she doing it again? The suspense is done so well, and is part of the romance. I was spellbound by the whole book. I literally stopped only to cook and eat.

A very exciting story of two people on the run. One an escaped prisoner, the other from an abusive ex. When they are thrown together they will draw strength from each other and go on a quest to prove Cade's innocence. They don't know who to trust and once everything falls in place will they have a place for each other in their lives? A page turner. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.

If you're looking for a quick, fun read (like I was when I read this) this is perfect! Meg and Cade are on the run - she is running from an abusive ex-husband (and she has kinda stolen his car because that was the only way she could get away) and he has escaped from prison to prove that he didn't kill his girlfriend. But someone does not want Cade to prove his innocence and will stop him at any cost. I felt like it wasn't a very suspenseful story, but it was a fun read!

Meg is running, Cade is running. A dangerous situation brings them together. This is a fairly short book but it doesn't lack romance or suspense. I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it. I received an advanced copy of this book and have voluntarily reviewed it.

It looks like I'm in the minority here. This book was just okay. It was a bit on the predictable side and I knew who the "bad guy" was fairly early on. The suspense was also lacking for me. :(

aving Cade had a bit of a different plot line than you tend to see in this kind of sweet romance. I liked it a lot!

First in this book, we meet Meg. Meg’s on the run from her abusive ex-husband Travis. She’s stolen his car and it’s night time. So she’s already a bit freaked out. Then she hears that there’s a murderer who has escaped from a nearby prison and she’s even more afraid. I found it a bit ironic that the escaped murderer, Cade saves Meg from a man trying to hurt her. He even gets stabbed for her. This makes it so Meg can’t just leave him.

I liked Meg’s character. It takes guts to run from someone you know will hunt you down. Then even more guts to keep going with someone who may be a murderer who you don’t really even know. Meg shows just what she’s made of time and time again in this book. I really liked her character!

Then there’s Cade. He was in prison for killing a girlfriend. Only he says he didn’t kill her, he was actually trying to figure out who did when he was put in prison. I loved the way he stood up for Meg, several times in this book. He was always trying to take care of her and make life a little better or easier for her.

I loved the plot of this one. You never quite knew what was going to happen next. There were several times that the lives of both Meg and Cade were in danger and one or the other of them had to think quick to save both of their lives. Make sure to grab a copy of this great book! You’ll love it!

👍4 and a bit stars💕🚗
Exciting from the first chapter, this was a quick, enjoyable and very deftly written story in clean, simple and correct prose. With the hero a fugitive, it seemed unlikely that things could end well, but the conclusion was satisfying and made this one a true standalone. There's some limited violence, nothing too graphic, and a spate of surprise furry🐾 friends that add a bit of comic relief, but most of the dynamic of this romance between battered, runaway Meg and convicted murderer Cade is their unlikely pairing and joint flight from danger. The ending was a little abrupt. I rarely say a story should have been longer but, in this case, I thought the last few chapters could have been extended to give more details about Meg's work, Cade's legal battles and what happened in the cases of the murders and crimes to which he is connected. Still, it's a nice, clean read with mild heat and likable protagonists, despite their on-the-lam status!:-)

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

The story of Cade and Meg is a sweet one but less expected. Meg is a woman who is running from her Ex. She is tired of being a punching bag. She comes across Cade who is a fugitive and is also on the run. He has escaped prison and is out to prove his innocence. He has been convicted for killing his girlfriend and has been in jail for 2 years. Meg doesn’t know what she has gotten herself into as her life gets tangled with Cade. Is he really innocent as he claims? Is he a better man than her ex? These are questions answered in this fairly short suspenseful romance. Another good story from Victorine Lieske.

Phew! What a great book. It wasn't excessively long. No excess words to fill up the word count. It was perfect plot that flowed smoothly. I really hated to see it end. I just loved the characters. Meg and Cade were perfect for each other. The story was written in my favorite dual POVs. It helps me to understand the characters better. If you want to read a romance story with some suspense that won't take long, then try this one. You won't regret it.

Saving Cade is a feel-good romantic suspense novel that can easily be read in one afternoon. The characters of Meg and Cade are likable and the danger is real. The story is well-edited too. My only complaint is Cade behaves out of character towards the end of the story, which is for the sole purpose of adding tension or drama between them. Overall it was lots of fun and has a sweet ending.

I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I really enjoyed this book. First of all, it’s the perfect length to read before bed during what I like to call a little “me time” at the end of the day. Also it is a clean book that you can let your teenagers read too. I liked that it was a fast paced suspense story. I didn’t know where the story was going to end up, kept me guessing til the end.
So you have Cade, a convict on the run, and Meg, a fleeing battered ex-wife. Life hasn’t turned out how either of them had expected. They have both been merely scraping by until their paths met. There is an immediate draw to help each other, a concern for the others circumstances and it’s fun to read. The only down side was after I finished reading it I wanted to know more about them before they met and of their time together. But other than that it was a great little novella.
I received a copy of this book from the author. However, this review is voluntary and my honest opinion.

As with Lieske's other books, this book is written in an easy-to-read writing style. It provides an easy way to kill a few hours.

I enjoy her comedies more than this suspense novel, which I found to be rather predictable. I didn't like how often Meg called herself dumb, but I do think that's probably a realistic thing for someone with her history to do. I appreciated Cade's chivalry.

Content: no sex. I can't remember if there was any language; if there was any, it was mild. Some mild violence.

Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy of this book.

This was my first Victorine Lieske book and I will read more. It's a sweet story of love and suspense. Enjoyed the true feelings of Meg. I loved Meg's toughness and tenderness. Didn't realize who set up Cade but glad it wasn't who was thought. I rounded this up to a 4. I loved at the end how Meg, got her man, her career and her house. Quick read.

I love a little suspense with my romance reads and this didn’t disappoint. I read this book about Cade and Meg in one sitting. I’m so happy that they were wrong about who had framed Cade. If you want a great suspenseful read, then grab your copy and take a little ride.

Great story!

I enjoyed this romantic suspense. Adding suspense and a bit of adventure/danger to a good clean romance is my favorite! This was a sweet story about Meg and Cade, although the suspense was a lot more downplayed than I thought it would be. Still a good read though!

Loved this romantic suspense and couldn't put the book down until I had read to the end. Meg finally decides to leave her abusive and ex by moving to another state but soon finds an escaped prisoner in her car. She has to figure out whether to trust him - after all, he did save her from another man who was trying to rob her. Is he a murderer or is he the man who does little unexpected things for her? Cade needs money so he can figure out who set him up for his girlfriend's murder but finds it's not so easy deciding who he can trust.

Meg was running from her husband because he was abusive and ends up with a convict in her car that saved her from another convict. Only to realise that things are not always as they seam. Cade had been convicted of killing his girlfriend but he had also been looking into who had been steeling from his company. Loved the twist in this story there very surprising with a little action thrown in for good measure. A touching but driven story that you won't want to put down.

I really enjoyed this romantic suspense story from Victorine Lieske. This is a fast paced, suspensful, clean, short romance. What an unlikely pair - Meg is fleeing from an abusive relationship and Cade has escaped from prison where he was serving a sentence for a murder he is determined to prove he did not commit. There are also some small forest critters who make an appearance to provide some comic relief. This was a very satisfying mystery.

Imagine stopping for gas and being attacked. You have just heard on the radio about an escaped convict and now you have met him. A man comes to your rescue and then gets in your car and tells you to drive. You do just that not knowing who you are with and why he needs to get away from that place.
