For Matthew, love isn't as simple as being with someone, even when it comes to Sam. But, after being alone and falling apart for so long, he'll do anything to feel better, to live better, and to be whoever it is he's meant to be. But, another chance with Sam and another surge of creative energy might leave him worse off than before.
Matthew Rochester spells it out from the very beginning that people can't give him meaning in life, in the novel Drowning. But what he really thinks is that Samantha, his long time friend, is the only one that completes him, they just struggle to get on the same plain. Mitchell O'Keefe creates a story that keeps the reader wondering as to which is Matthew's greatest love; writing or Samantha. As an author, he wrote one best seller and now his publisher is wanting a sequel, but Matthew doesn't know if it is still in him.
I found Drowning enticing as Mitchell O'Keefe slowly peels back the layers of Matthew Rochester. He may be an eccentric author, but there is much more than a drunk and womanizer. He sees life different than others and maybe that is why he was such a good author. Though I certainly did not see the ending that Mitchell O'Keefe planned for his readers and was very pleased with the conclusion.
Drowning by Mitchell James O’Keefe is a book about love. But not only about romantic love. Also included in this notion is love towards what we do, what we create. The book itself is very well-written. The descriptive and detailed language used make us feel as we are right there, watching the story develop. Mitchell James O’Keefe is a gifted storyteller and creates a beautiful story that plays with our senses and emotions. As the story unfolds, we are trapped into Matthew’s life. We are a witness to his struggles, to his hopes, to his actions, and to his thoughts and the character is so well-balanced that we worry about him and where his decisions will lead him. There’s a really nice flow in this story, it feels organic. Nothing is rushed, and everything falls into place in its own time. It’s not about what the readers want but what we need and that’s the trick for a good book.
I’ve said it before and I will keep saying it, the biggest battles are the ones we fought against ourselves, and when it comes to love, those battles reach another level completely different. What do you think is the aim of this book? What about the plot? Where are we going with this? Well I can give my answer but it can differ from yours. This story is about the purest sentiment known as ‘love’, it’s not about romance, obsession, sex, or anything like that. It’s about a passion that transcend all notions of one could possibly contain, and it’s something we could only experience or wish to live once in a lifetime. It may seem a little lacking in substance but don’t worry, this story is amazing, the characters are as fresh as ever and the setting in particular is my highlight, so I can only hope for everyone to experience this piece of art.
A book of love, lust and a journey of learning, I found this to be one of those books that I just couldn’t stop reading. It made me read with a sense of urgency, devouring each page after the next, just wanting to find out more and more.
The main character, Matthew is trying to live life to the fullest and he believes that the way to do that is by focusing on himself and what he wants. Although he’s met the one that is obviously the right one for him, he isn’t at first ready to accept that and the book is all about his journey on the discovery of what love really means.
Thought provoking and gripping it’s a book I’d definitely recommend.
Drowning tells the story of Matthew, the hurting artist that can’t balance his two loves - writing and Samantha. The storytelling is carefully structured to guide the reader through Matthew’s struggles of feeling like he has to decide between the two. Aside from simply enjoying the writing, the story telling can easily have the reader longing for more and deeply interested in his wellfare. I found it to be a great read for all creatives feeling a longing for art and sharing their own story. As well as a great story for the hopeless romantic who is smitten with that one that you will never let go.
A good message with good storyline! A nice story about love, or to be what you love. It’s the journey of Mathew who has bad experiences and challenges, being alone and hurt for long and now ready to give another try. The experience is like hold on to a stick of life with hope to survive or not get drowned or fail. An experience that almost everyone may feel in their life in different areas. The story is done well with all characters in place when needed. Overall a good book!
