Connecticut Kings #6

Pass Interference

Rate this book
My bio might speak for itself, but I still have everything to prove.
Everything to gain.
Everything to lose.
On the field, and off.

I’m here for a reason, and Nate Richardson isn’t one of them… except, he won’t let me relegate him to a non-factor. Even knowing what’s at stake, he won’t let me pass him off.

So I’ll adapt.
Open myself up.
Dominate my position.
Defend my right to be here.

Who says a woman can’t have everything?
Or, better yet… who says a woman can’t be a King?

Nate & Sloan Was A Vibe

I loved how this relationship developed….I hated the fact that Sloan had medical issues which was the reason she allowed Nate to help her….also, I hate the medical diagnosis we got for Eli too….This was really a good story.

2nd read was the newly released audiobook narrated by Sean Crisden & Elyce Anthony

I like how CCJ portrays strong black women. Sloane being older than Nate is interesting. Through his acts, Nate really showed Sloane that he was all about her.

This was another nicely written love story in the Connecticut Kings series. Nate and Sloan's love affair was a very enjoyable read. I must say each book in this series has been a great read and has me looking forward to reading more.

First of all, this book hit really close to home when dealing with heart disease in women. In 2016, I had a really close friend of mine suffer a traumatic heart incident that left her comatose and brain damaged. Like Sloane, she was extremely cognizant of her health and what she put into her body, but she suffers from a hereditary heart condition. She woke after spending months in a coma. Yesterday she celebrated her birthday and is finally starting to speak works! I felt Sloane's real fear about further damaging her body and heart!

But back to the Sloane and Nate show. We met Nate back at the beginning of the CK series and I have always loved his humor and wittiness. It was nice to see his serious side and for him to just lay it all on the line for someone who repeatedly told him.. "Nah, son! I'm straight on you!"

Sloane. Is. The. Truth!!!!! As everyone in the book already confirmed, "she is BAD!"I loved her and I loved that she was OK with just being OK with Nate and moving on her terms and not being forced into a full-blown relationship before she was ready just because she was 40+ and older than Nate. Nothing about their pairing felt forced or over-romanticized. It felt like a natural progression, which makes sense since they were sneaking and creeping for four years.

I'm not sure if we'll hear more from them or not, but I would not be mad if we did. This is absolutely one of my favorites in the Connecticut Kings Series and CCJ delivered the goods.

Sloane was annoying as fck. She wanted Nate but kept brining up her age. Nate didn’t care but yet Sloane did even though she loved him, she kept trying to push him away. I hated Sloane medical condition it honestly wasn’t needed ; even Nate’s news pissed me off. This was a cute cougar story 🤣.

Amazing!

I so love the Connecticut Kings Series! This one didn’t disappoint. CCJ threw too much at me in this one. I was so overwhelmed! From Sloane to Cole to Eli, there has to be another set of books. So many unanswered questions. I will say that I now love Nate! He is so much more than we thought and an amazing guy!

Sloane Brooks has a lot to prove: all eyes are on her with some looking to see her soar, and some looking to maybe see her fumble. She has her professional life down to a science and it's time to pass the test. Too bad her personal life can't be the same..or can it? With Nate Richardson in tow and success apart of his nature, can she go wrong?

I've never read a Christina C. Jones' book that has had a plot I've even remotely read anywhere else! It's like her mind concocts these ideas that her pen produces and it's just all magic! This installment in the CK series took me by surprise considering who the hero and heroine are and the issues they faced in this read.

Jones always finds a way to cram a whole backstory as thick as a Bible in these books! I totally enjoy how she let's me see what makes these characters act the way that they do and how love can totally change them. The sports terminology was just enough to wet my appetite but keep me infused in Nate and Sloane's world. I love that Sloane was not the average heroine and though we aren't that similar she was totally relatable in every way. I had some glimpses of Nate in past CK books as the playful big brother, but never like THIS. His laid back persona with Sloane's take no sh*t attitude makes for a hot coupling! Nate is so bae for the way he handled Sloane in this book!!

I throughly enjoyed how this story wrapped up: it gave me just a hearty and warm feeling. All conflicts were resolved and we leave the hero and heroine in a place that's well suited to their relationship.

Adulting in Love 💗

I love, love, love this story! Where do I start? Older woman, younger man - check. Non-traditional female profession - check. Super supportive, sweet as pie male - check. Sloane and Nate are all the way grown and showing us what adulting in a situationship-turned-relationship looks like. They tried not to fall in love, but had been in love all along. Weaving medical conditions in with the real fears associated with them truly resonated with me. I hope to hear more about Sloane and Nate...can we get an update on the blog or a short please?

She wasn’t ready

Nate knew what he wanted and that determination was so sexy.
Heart attacks ain’t got no age... stress is real.
I enjoyed him caring and showing and proving that him being young ain’t mean nothing.
Them old men’s stick together. Pops was wrong but I understand why...

Cougar town

Nate was never interested in marriage & kids but he's crushed on Sloane since she was the coach in college. Now that he's grown, his puppy love has grown up as well. Only now, Sloane isn't married anymore & able to see him as more than a college kid. The ups & downs of figuring out what they will become or not makes a great story.

Never Enough

For the past two years, I have anticipated more from this Connecticut Kings series. This has easily become one of my favorite series by my two favorite authors. CCJ has a way of writing a story that is very relatable. I hope we continue to see more from this series.

I usually don't read books with olde heroines, so I didn't expect to like this. (I'm younger, and I usually read books with mcd my age) but I really liked this.

A Hidden agenda!!

Sloane and Nate's story was a great read! With the health scares, pregnancy and all the hiding the truth from everyone made for a great novel! I am thoroughly enjoying the series and anticipate much more from the Connecticut Kings family!

Re-read the whole series before diving in for Love and Christina's next reads in the series. Just as good the next time. Gleemed some things I missed the first time! Great storyline, great series looking forward to reading the next 2 books in the series!

Enjoyed this book. Loved when Sloane and her girlfriends banter; they have a great relationship even if they don't see each other often. Nate and Cole's relationship was adorable - twins supporting and annoying each other. Doing it since the womb I guess.

Now on to Sloane and Nate. They were so cute together. I cant believe they sneaked around for so long just so glad Nate didn't give up on Sloane. I kept wondering if they would get married or have a baby or both. It was funny they way she would try to clown him for being young until she realized she was really digging him. This was no longer some fling. She finally go on the same page as him.

Eli was so out of line when he asked to speak to Sloane glad she didn't take it and gave it to him. She accepted his apology a little too quick for me. He has some damn nerves. His wife has double the age gap of Sloane and Nate.

A funny moment that I still remember is when Nate was helping Madison with her application and things shifted to Langston. It was so cute yet hilarious to watch him navigate that conversation. I can't believe Sloane didn't come in sooner. It was also funny when Cole was tripping to make sure her brother wasn't a fuckboy when he started asking about teenagers and how "Are you crazy" he got with her when she had the wrong impressions.

It was hard for me to rate this book especially since I gave book 5 a 4. It's easy a 3 star book definitely a little more. I settled on 3.5 and decided to round up

So often, stories center around older men dating younger women but this book plot twist: a younger man winning the heart of an older woman.

What stood out most was how the story unfolded in a man dominated industry we got a boss chick with a younger partner who wasn’t intimidated by her power or position. Instead, he supported her strength, stood by her side, and let her shine. That level of confidence and security is something we don’t see enough in stories like these.

And I have to say, kudos to the way the ex husband’s regret was portrayed. He sacrificed his family for what he thought was the glamorous “lime light,” only to realize too late what truly mattered.

SIDENOTE (aka “Don’t come for my stars!”):
Just a quick heads-up my ratings are based on whether I’d reread the book or add it to my personal collection, not the quality of the story itself. So here’s how I roll:

5 🤩 = I’m obsessed with everything the storyline, the author, and the narrators! I read it yearly and own ALL the copies: physical, digital, and Audible. I can basically recite this book. It lives in my private library.
4 🌟 = Loved the story, the author, and the narrator (if it’s audio). I’d happily reread it when I need a solid comfort read.
3 ✨ = Enjoyed the story, the author, and definitely the narrators. A great addition to my yearly reading challenge likely to revisit if it’s part of a series I need to refresh.

It was okay...

This wasn’t my favourite in the series but it was fine. This romance features a HFN (happy for now) ending for Sloane and Nate. The premise is that divorcée, Sloane, has just gotten a coaching job with the Connecticut Kings and it’s a big deal because she’s the first black woman coach in the NFL. Unbeknownst to everyone, she’s been having a 4-year “benefits” relationship with Nate, the team owner’s son, who’s an executive in the team and also 13 years younger than she is, and Nate is angling for something more. Sloane is worried about the impact of dating the boss’s son on her position but various health scares make her reconsider.

I think this was an okay book. I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoyed some of Ms. Jones earlier books in the series. I feel like I didn’t really understand the relationship or attraction between Sloane and Nate- I just wasn’t feeling their vibe. It was just too “works on paper but not feeling the heart of the matter” for me. I do feel like this was a very realistic portrayal of a relationship though especially with the element of Garrett, Sloane’s lurking ex.

All the books in this series run parallel to each other more or less so you can read them by themselves but you will probably have more context for the side characters if you read the series in order.

Well Alright Now

Book 6 of the Connecticut Kings series totally leaves you wanting for more. What can I say about Nate and Sloan, she subdivided mother of teenager, just offered the job of her dreams, he young, rich, years and son to the owner of the team she was working for. They two people fighting for the same relationship, her to end it and him to hold on to it. As a woman in a male dominated field I totally understand where Sloan was coming from with keeping their relationship a secret, add in the age difference and yes I see her dilemma. Nate has been semi in love with Sloan for years as a teenager, once he grew up and things turned sexual for them those feelings blossomed faster than even he was prepared for. There were many obstacles and people against them, but once they both realized that there were real feelings involved on both ends it became the two of them (with Madison and Cole's approval) against the nay sayers ( Eli included).Theirs was a love story over coming many obstacles to come to fruition. Totally a 5 star rating

Nate x Sloane

Omgoodness, did I eat this story UP ! I absolutely loveddddd Nate & Sloane. Nate had it badddddd for Ms. Brooks, I'm talking about usher serenading him everytime he looked at sis. He just wanted a small taste & got addicted to the whole platter. Sloane wasn't trying to take my boy serious because of a tiny age gap, but I meannnn, y'all both grown so stop tripping 🙄😑 I loved the catchup on Nicki & Jordan. & Let's not forget baby Emma & how she loves her brother ❤️❤️ I can't believe Eli Richardson was showing his ASS like this in this book. I always loved how level headed & progressive he was, but in this book 😳 I mean even Mel had to get on him & he know Mel don't play. The dynamic of Sloane as a coach & a mom was perfect. She nurtured Maddie, but she also knew how to get in them players ass. I mean just look at her dynamic with Amare 😂 Garret was aggy af. He wanted that old thang back, REAL BAD & Sloane had to let him know he's low ranking these days on her best slanging list. He thought he was going to try to lil boy Nate & Nate wasn't with it. & The catchup with Zoraya 💖 I love me some Zoraya Whitfield-Norwood.

Can't wait to see whats next for the CK Series.

Another great one from CCJ! I love all her books in general, but really get excited for the additions to the CK series and this was no exception. A female football coach!!!! LOVED every minute of this one!! CCJ did an amazing job of taking on the task of a female football coach and incorporated some true stigmas that could/would occur. Reading Sloane’s journey in the NFL was awesome within itself; adding in the romance element with the owner’s son, age differences, work conflicts, health, was just more icing on the cake.
I was hooked from the first chapter and was excited to see how Sloane and Nate would make this work with the various elements coming into play. Plus how our latest rookie Rut crossed over into this storyline and answering questions from Sloane and Nate’s perspective that were presented in Love’s book.

Looking forward to hearing more about these two in future books and being introduced to more players/coaches on the CK team (hint hint)!!!

More, Please

This book was everything. It was CCJ at her very best. It was just excellent. Many have taken on stories about younger men and older women. I have never been impressed until now. The age difference was reasonable and the relationship was solid, one built over time.

I loved Sloane and how she carried herself. She was the perfect combination of strong and vulnerable at the same time. This book just worked for me. Hate was fierce in his love for her. He was mature and unse!fish. He stepped up to show that he was the man for the job.I

It was good to see Jordan and Coke again. This round felt like a collaboration in the truest sense between Love Belvin and CCJ. I loved the glimpses of Amare and the timeline that ran parallel with the previous book.

This was so good, that I want another serving of the Conneticut Kings. I'll be ready anytime. Bravo to Mrs. Jones to a job well done.

I remember trying to read this after reading CK #5 and for whatever reason I couldn't get into it...which to even utter those words in reference to a CCJ book feels blasphemous. This time around though, FLEW through it in 2 sittings. (Only reason it was not 1 sitting was because I had to sleep). Looking back, I think I was just in a reading slump and not in the mood to read ANYTHING which happens...because I LOOOOOVED this book.

Nate and Sloane are HOT! lol. I loved getting to see more of Nate as our only exposure to him thus far has been through the lens of other characters. After reading about how much of a badass Sloane was in CK5, it was amazing to get to know her more and see her vulnerable side. Superheroes have flaws too and getting to see that first hand was inspiring af! I really do love this series. I can't tell which set of couples the next books will focus on once Love and Christina get around to coming back to these stories, but whoever they are. IM READY BIH!

Age ain't nothing but a number

Aaliyah said it best, "age ain't nothing but a number!" Sloane and Nate were great together, despite their age difference. Nate was quick to say that he didn't want a relationship, but that's exactly what he wanted all along with her. I understood Sloane's stance with Nate, but I was equally glad when she finally let Nate all the way in and stop pushing him away. He was grown and knew he wanted her without a doubt. Nate showed Sloane and Garrett that he rides for her, and he'll take on anybody who messes with her, including his father. This book showed dealt with love, happiness, vulnerabilities, glass ceiling breaking, and life altering issues while having fun, great sense of humor from the characters, and relatable topics that we can connect to.

Great Love Story

I really enjoyed the love story of Sloane (Coach Brooks) and Nate. I was wondering if Nate would get his own story and I liked Sloane a lot when she was a secondary character in Rut’s book. A common theme in many of the author’s books are strong, smart, passionate women trying to make it in male dominated careers and how sometimes their love interests just don’t quite get the obstacles the women face or how their male privilege sometimes rears it’s ugly head. The obstacles they faced as a couple were very realistically portrayed and I was really wondering if they were going to get to their HEA, so glad they did. I loved the older woman/younger man plot as well and am glad that Sloane eventually got over their age differences. I think Eli and Mel should have their own story as well!
