First off the book was boring. The heroine was unappealing and unlikable. There was no buildup or reason for any relationship between the so-called couples, either the primary or the secondary. And unforgivable was the reference to poker which did not come to England until approximately 50 to 60 years later. If the author doesn’t take the time to figure out what does fit into a regency novel and what doesn’t, at least they should take the time to find an editor who does.

My inner narcissist requires that I read any book with my name in the title. The majority of these are bodice-rippers or, in this case, really fluffy romances. Not as much cheesy dialogue here as I was hoping for, it was mostly just boring. I'll leave you with a few of my favorite lines:

"Comfortable!" Anita exclaimed. "I haven't known a moment's peace since I met Rodney. There's nothing comfortable about love, Miranda. It's...it's...quite awesome really. At least I find it so."
"But you are happy?" Miranda pressed.
"Indubitably, but frightened nonetheless. Come, let us retire [...] All this chatter of romance has made me quite dizzy."

What a pleasant surprise this book was. I was expecting a mills and boon type romance but instead got a well written fast paced mystery akin to an adult famous five type read. Great way to spend a rainy afternoon.
